rumors about a gooni sequel getting made soon have been debunked by one star of the film but fans may not want to abandon all hope just yet for a second movie one of the film's original Stars has continues his campaign to make The Goonies 2 happen despite the recent rumors getting debunked stemming from a report published by the sun rumors emerged that The Goonies 2 was entering the early stages of development with many original Stars set to return Martha Plimpton Steph shut down this report after it went viral telling fans on social media that there is no Goonies 2 script adding definitively that it's not real be that as it may plimpton's co-star Shan Aston Mikey shared a message of his own on X that was much more optimistic while not directly addressing the rumor Aston shared a fan-made poster for an imagined legacy sequel title Goonies are good enough the poster also notes that it's a Steven Spielberg film highlighting the legendary director's potential involvement Aston was excited Enough by the idea to note in a message alongside the poster it's our time come on Steven Aston has spent many years speaking about his desire to see The Goonies get a sequel he said in a 2014 interview that director Richard Donner was wanting to make the film adding that if the celebrated director asserts that it's happening it must be so Aston later teased in 20 2016 that Mikey would be coming face Toof face with oneeyed Willie in a sequel Donner passed away in 2021 at the age of 91 though the sequel could still potentially move forward with another director at the helm similar to how Lethal Weapon 5 is in the works with Mel Gibson taking over as director one of the other stars of The Goonies is kuui Kuan who won his first Academy Award following his return to acting for his role in everything everywhere all at once last year Quan spoke about the potentiality of The Goonies getting a sequel explaining that the biggest problem is that there was trouble crafting a satisfactory script while the death of Donner casts further doubt on the sequel happening Quan remains open to the idea of revisiting his role as data kuui Quan is still open to returning as data you know honestly for the last 30-some years we've tried to do aonis too he told Variety in fact when I was much younger I wished it would come to pass because that was the movie I thought I would need to make a career comeback honestly we had numerous scripts but there was not one script that felt like it would be up to what the original was sadly we lost the captain of our ship dick Donner who I love dearly I really don't know if there's going to be a Goonies too but I would be open to revisiting that character
