Tonight, the San Diego County Administration Building is shining bright purple in honor of International Awareness overdose day. The annual event is held on August 31st every year. Just to recognize the lives lost to the opioid crisis. The group's parents for addiction treatment and healing and moms united to end the war on drugs individual today with families who have lost loved ones to drug overdose. Speakers at the event talked about the importance of harm reduction and preventive care while emphasizing the need for family and community support, two sons who one went to 19 treatment centers and I never gave up hope. And so I want to tell people, never ever, ever give up hope, stay there, love them, push them into treatment, push them into resources, be there to help support them because you can't recover alone. That's really important to remember because 1203 people in San Diego County lost their lives to drug overdose in just the past year.
