fun night for Tennessee football who picked up a massive win today over the NC State wolf pack making a statement on National Television ABC gam 730 kick neutral sight Duke's Mayonnaise who doesn't love some mayonnaise Trevor biggest takeaway from tonight absolutely the number one takeaway has got to be the defense last week we saw three points against Chattanooga this week only 10 but they didn't allow a touchdown defensively two weeks in a row without allowing a touchdown on defense the defense really stood up against the top 25 opponent you know I think it would help if I said the final score in our intro 51- 10 in favor of the Tennessee Volunteers Dylan Samson leading the way on the ground 132 yards 20 carries Nico through the air 21 yards pair touchdown 16 of 32 16 of 23 excuse me a little dyslexia there but very very good night from the offense and the defense unfortunately since we're at a neutral sight I went to player at press conferences Trevor attended hypo's press conference so now we'll send it over to Trevor for the Josh hypo recap absolutely the tight end room was his number one not necessarily concern cuz he loves that room it's as deep as it's ever been at Tennessee and he really loves all three of them miles kelman had a touchdown tonight he praised him a little bit there will Brooks had that defensive touchdown he talked about how big that is for the team and how that can really bring up the morale and overall as the team chemistry builds he says week by week it's the Tennessee standard to have the best defense they've ever had yeah and you mentioned it there it was like we I saw a tweet maybe from you or somebody else he was talking about Reggie White Al Wilson some of those guys who've set the standard at Tennessee will Brooks a walk-on safety gets a pick six for Tennessee when it's just 10 to three makes it 17 to three it felt like to me Trevor that really took the life out of NC State because they were threatening had a little bit of offense going and this the strength of this Wolfpack team is their offense and all of a sudden will Brooks takes it back what 85 yards I think yeah no life for the wolf pack HP talked about it in that press conference he needed a little bit of a recap himself it was 10 to three and then they got that pick six so NC State absolutely had life but then will Brooks stepped right in front of the ball took it away and took it right to that other end zone unfortunately was it the checkerboard it was the NC State one but it counts as six either way I think it's also worth mentioning that NC state scored 10 tonight and seven of those were off a pick six from Nico which really wasn't his fault he was hit as he threw the ball maybe an offensive lineman taking a playoff you can watch the film and decide for yourself defense 13 tackles for loss that defensive line was going insane tonight on an experienced NC State front that's this is an ACC team I mean we're not talking about Chattanooga we're not talking about Ken State like we will next week this team was ranked number 24 in the country and Tennessee's defensive line did what it was expected to do and dominated this game and more importantly covered up maybe what issues there are in the secondary I think the biggest thing for me that I'm Mari Thomas talked about will Brooks a little bit as well NC State had three first down conversions I believe on that first drive and after that their third down efficiency went way down and Amari Thomas talked about how in the huddles on the sideline they talked about hey we got to get off the field and I talked about in my keys in predictions too not to toot my own horn here but NC State wanted to chew the clock and they wanted to keep Nico off the field and they did just that by converting third down we've actually got Beacon Alum Andrew Smith over here who pulled up the third down conversion set for us what do we have Andrew uh after they started the game three for three okay since then 0 for9 all right so they went 0 for9 after that first drive where they went three for three on third down thank you Andrew Smith Beacon Alum Johnson City Press now lots of good stuff from that defense driver absolutely last week I gave that defensive line a C+ in my grades that was not because they were bad it was because they were below their standard of what they can perform like this week they showed exactly why they're not a C+ room they're as deep as it gets and James Pierce Jr played 10 snaps last week he was a constant Force this week along with tackles Omar Norman lot Tyree West went down with an injury on his leg I will have to go back and watch the film tomorrow I don't know if he came back in or not I don't think it's much of a concern that defensive line played really well Keenan peely Aran Carter were all over the field fumbles interceptions getting off the field making NC State once again an ACC team that's probably going to compete for the ACC title in a conference that really doesn't have a leader as we see with Florida State going down and you know everything that the ACC has going on NC State's probably competing for this conference Championship ship and Tennessee just manhandled them in their own State mind you neutral site yes but I would definitely say it was probably 5050 if not 6040 red tonight Trevor so next week obviously not as good takeaways playing kin State 745 in neand stadium parting words for you Trevor this is as good as it's going to get for Tennessee top 25 win and they didn't just squeeze by it was 51 to 10 mind you so there's not really any way to get better other than get better as the weeks Go On You' just got to improve yep Omari th has talked about a little bit too some things they want to work on maybe some mental miscues it looked like sometimes the defense wasn't set just ready maybe waiting long to get the play call in I feel like that's first game of the year second game of the year kind of issues that they'll work out kin state next week will be a perfect game to work out some of those issues so this team is continuing to improve we saw tonight that there's a ceiling here and they
