football in the season preview the schedule preview but now we got some bold predictions to uh to lay out for you in uh heading into the 2024 season so Chris I'll start with you what is uh what is your first bold prediction on the on the Sooners this year I'm gonna go with Gavin sh Sawchuk leading the SEC in rushing yards and that's not an easy prediction U I think Dylan Samson at Tennessee is going to be competition CJ Baxter at Texas probably too but Gavin saluk last year 6.2 yards per carry nine touchdowns on just 120 carries when this dude gets the ball in his hands he makes stuff happen I think they're going to have a really loaded receiving room around him and of course you got the feed of Jackson Arnold to keep defenses off balance too I just like his production I like the setup of the surrounding cast I'm a little worried about that offensive line jailing not that it lacks Talent but that it is new but hey we're going to be bold in these things give me give me Gavin Sawchuk to lead the Southeastern Conference in rushing yards I like that uh um you know as as I was thinking through that I was I was thinking about him and uh maybe doing something bold this year and hey we'll see I think that could be a possibility I think he's a good back uh so here's my bold prediction um Brent Venable's defensive guy you know he was a great defensive coordinator at Clemson last year their defense really did not look good the second half of the year uh they they got rid of Def their defensive coordinator they brought in a new one they're really trying to change some things uh on defense Zack allly now comes in uh and uh co-defensive coordinator now for the uh for the Sooners you got Brent vinales defensive guys your head coach and so I really like what they've done with this defense here so my bold prediction Oklahoma top 15 defense in the country that that's bold that's a high number but I think I think they're going to be up there I mean I think this going to be one of the best defenses we've seen in Oklahoma in a long time I think this will definitely be the best Brent vinales defense in Oklahoma that we've seen the last couple of years but I'm gonna say top 15 defense in the nation when it's all said and done Chase we were kind of sharing our notes on this ahead of time just to make sure we didn't both do the same thing and I said I'm I'm I'm walking through this I'm you know what I think my bold prediction is going to to be this defense finishes top five in the country in interceptions because Billy Bowman had six picks last year they got a bunch jentry Williams had three picks last year Woody Washington's back um they just got dudes on the back end I thought you know I better check the receipts here and then I discovered Oklahoma led the league in interceptions or led the country in interceptions per game last year I was like that might not be so bold so I'll walk that back but the point is we had a laugh over that and that also kind of backs up your idea that this might be a top 15 team nationally in Total Defense yeah and uh I like them I like the Personnel I like the coaching staff I'm I'm I'm gonna ride with that as a bold predictions Chris what is uh what's our third bold prediction here for the for the Oklahoma Sooners well my my concern on all these bold predictions coming true as that schedule my goodness chase this this side of Florida I don't know that anybody got a tougher schedule the good news for Oklahoma is that you got some Breakin games you got Temple you got a down Houston team you got two lane which may not be quite what it's been and and boy from there on out it is murder um you've got six teams on that schedule Tennessee that one's in Norman Texas neutral site game ad all Miss at Missouri Alabama Norman at LSU those teams could all be now they're not all going to make the college football playoff because you're not going to have six teams in the SEC in there but here's my point those teams are all good enough to make it and my question is how many wins are on that schedule for Oak lman I don't know because a lot of these are going to be close even a field goal or less but I think and I'm I'm curious that I'm always hesitant to make predictions based on somebody else is going to act about the facts but don't don't you think in this day and age where I I think that the the 12 team playoff is going to be a little bit like the NCA tournament where they don't just look at your wins and losses but who you beat I'm gonna say if you're Oklahoma and you've got three losses a fewer you're getting in the playoffs because I just look at that that's going to mean you're going to beat in three of these teams Tennessee Texas Old Miss Alabama Missouri LSU only two of those are at home oh oh by the way you'll also beat an Auburn at Auburn which won't be easy I would just think that all things being equal if you're doing your homework you're looking at Oklahoma loses three or fewer you got to respect that say that's a playoff team I'm gon predict if these Sooners lose three games or fewer they'll be in that 12 team playoff okay I like that and I I feel like if if a three lost team is to make the college football playoff it would be out of the SEC and so yeah I like I you know I like the chances there so yeah especially with the schedule it's tough what Oklahoma has this year but yeah that that will be interesting to follow so those are bold predictions for the Oklahoma Sooners get ready for the 2024 football season we will have you covered with SEC
