UEFA's Club & Country Coefficient Rankings EXPLAINED! (New Format)

many of you have been asking about the UEFA coefficient system and exactly how it works so in this video I'm going to be explaining everything and we're going to look at the official rankings for both club and Country so UEFA calculates the coefficient system based on two things one is actually the performance in matches of teams in European competitions and also how far that team makes it in that tournament basically a team can earn coefficient points by both winning matches tying matches and they get bonus coefficient points B based off the stage that they got to in that tournament as an example if a team makes it to the league phase of the Champions League they earn themselves six coefficient points already and then depending on where they finish in that big table they can actually gain more coefficient points but just making it to that stage they already have themselves six points if a team finishes first in the league phase of any of these competitions in the Champions League they would earn themselves an extra 12 points in the Europa League they would get six and in the conference League finishing first would get you four now that focuses mainly on solo Club coefficient points now when it comes to Country coefficient points it's not based on the national team of that country it's basically a gathering of all the teams that are representing that country in European competitions and how much they gather all of them combined so if we go into the official country ranking for UFA coefficient points as of the 2425 season this is the beginning of the season of course but they count the last five total Seasons so what teams did 10 years ago doesn't matter whatsoever they only count the last five England is first with a total of 85,000 coefficient points then we have Italy at second Spain in third Germany fourth and France fifth so these are the top five countries that their domestic teams actually gain them the most points in European competitions like the Champions League Europa League and Conference League we'll dive a little bit deeper into it cuz it gets really interesting actually but if we scroll down a little bit we have Netherlands at six Portugal Belgium turkey Czech rep Republic on the left side we can also see the rise and fall of Nations how many spots they actually went up or down Israel climbing all the way to 11th place at the start of the season that's actually a big jump from a few years ago they're probably the biggest climber so far Norway Austria Greece of course we had olympiakos winning the conference league so they got a big boost last season gaining themselves 11,400 points that is a lot especially considering in the 2223 season the previous one they gained only 2,000 huge difference is between each season as you can see Switzerland at 15th Denmark Scotland Poland Serbia Croatia and the list goes on and on and on at the very bottom we have San Marino jalter and bellarus so their domestic teams gain them barely any points in European competition let's go back one season to the 2324 Seasons so now we can actually look at the specific details of the Season which teams did what let's use England as an example they had eight total teams representing presenting them of course Man City at the top gaining them 28 coefficient points at the end of each season how UFA calculates the total coefficients for that country is they take up all the teams that represent that country and the sum of that would be in this case 139 and they actually divided by the number of teams representing that country so they had eight total teams representing England they would take the 139 points calculated by eight and then they got 17.375 they actually counted in ,000 so in this case England received 17,37 coefficient points some countries have much less Representatives therefore they would only divide it by a fewer amount but their teams likely don't get 28 coefficient points a season like Manchester City cuz that is quite a lot we can see all the coefficient points they got in games in the group stage of last season then they got some extra bonus points for qualifying till the round of 16 eventually they did fall in the quarterfinal of the Champions League Arsenal also made it to the quarterfinal of the Champions League Liverpool made it to the quarterfinal of the Europa League Aston Villa made it to the semi-final of the conference League West Ham made it to the quarterfinal of the Europa Brighton to the round of 16 of the Europa League and then Newcastle and Manchester United both fell in the group stage of the Champions League there's a detailed version for literally every single country as you can see Real Madrid got a whopping 34 coefficient points for Spain that is a ton Germany had a pretty good season with lever making it all the way to the final of the Europa League Dortmund making it to the final of the champions league and losing to Real Madrid Italy received a lot of help from Atlanta winning the Europa League PSG made it to the semi-final of the Champions League Marseilles lost in the qualifiers but they did make it to the semi-final of the Europa League which is pretty good A revolution happening in the Netherlands Ajax only making it to the group stage of the Europa League while PSV oven actually made it to the rounds of 16 of the Champions League f made it to the group stage of that competition Portugal got the most points from Porto then Benfica then sporting then Braga now you're probably wondering why are country coefficients so important well basically the higher a country is ranked the more teams are going to be representing those countries and actually starting higher up in competitions as you can see the top five countries with the highest amount of coefficients actually start with four teams in the Champions League two in the Europa League and one in the conference league so seven total actually with the exception of two countries that get an eighth representative the country in sixth place gets three representatives in the Champions League two in the Europa League and one in the conference League two in the Champions League two in the Europa and one in the conference you probably get the hang of it at this point but 13th through 15th gets two in the Champions League one in the Europa League and two in the conference league and then it goes down and down and down to only one representative in the Champions one in the Europa and two in the conference league and it just gets lower and lower basically the weakest of coefficient countries get just one representative in the Champions League but the catch is they actually start in a very early qualifying round instead of just making it straight to the league phase like the top countries zero representatives in the Europa League qualifiers and two in the conference league so only three Representatives all starting in the qualifiers and that's why it's so important for teams to do well in European competitions it helps their country and themselves so every team from each country is actually rooting for one another shifting from the country rankings to the club rankings so this is basically the selfish kind of coefficient rankings not really the team that holds the most coefficient points in Europe currently is Manchester City with 123,000 at the start of this season let's go back one season and see how they did we can actually just scroll through each season so as we said earlier last season they fell in the quarter final they did get some good points though 28,000 coefficient points Real Madrid comes second then we have Bayern Liverpool Roma PSG V Royale with a huge climb nine places up to seventh place that is actually a lot Dortmund getting a ton of points last season making it all the way to the final of the Champions League this might surprise some people but we have teams like Barcelona and Atletico Madrid barely in the top 20 just cuz they haven't been doing too well in European competitions the past 5 years as an example in the 2223 season Barcelona got only 9,000 Atletico Madrid got only 8,000 Arsenal is also also a very interesting example cuz they didn't even compete in Europe in the 2122 season but then they actually gained a lot of points the past two season another great example we have Atlanta from Italy not competing last season or two seasons ago but then last season getting 28,000 points AC Milan at 22nd Juventus aax falling to 26 salsburg at 42 we have Tottenham at 45 at 50th place we have Red Star Belgrade 51st we have makab Tel Aviv we have Royal betties from LA got 52nd Aston Villa who just qualified to the champions league league phase since they finished top four in the Premier League they're probably going to be getting some good points next season Copenhagen usually doing well getting a lot of points with the exception of the 2021 season getting only 2500 that's very very low essentially teams need to do a Solid 5 years for them to be ranked pretty freaking high on this list if you enjoyed this video drop a like on it subscribe if you're new for more awesome videos like these we're building an
