with prie having no touchdowns on the entire preseason and recently throwing an interception in this most recent Raiders game I've seen many start to question if he might have fallen off so I want to go over his most recent film to really examine the player Brock py is headed into his third year as well as the other quarterbacks that stood out including the rookie Tanner Mory but before we get to him we need to start out with pie coming out of Iowa State perhaps the biggest do on pie was his ability to challenge the defense deep but he was able to rework his mechanics after his senior season and at about miles on his ball thanks to the coaching of will hwit I highlight this point to illustrate py isn't the type of quarterback that's going to stay in the box that you tried to Define for him so heading to his third year it's no surprise that he continues his development as a deep passer like when you're watching this pump fake from Rock py It causes the safety to bite and the defensive lineman to slow up his Rush then he doesn't stop there he also puts it out of Harm's Way putting it only where Debo Samuel can get it and with Brandon A continuing to be on the team for the next four years I expect this to be a staple of San Francisco's offense an argument you'll hear though is Brock py is only good because of these weapons but on a play like this you can see him overcoming the limitations of this play design he once again pulls out the pump fake but this time dips underneath it and then I love how Brock py is always keeping his eyes down the field and despite being on the run and having pressure in his face he's able to have a pretty nice ball to Mason here I know it wasn't caught but this is the type of play that I think makes Brock pretty Elite perhaps P's best ability though is his mental acuity on the football field as you're watching this play for instance you can see how he progresses from the top of his screen and then moves back down to Jake tongas and picks up eight on this play in a similar way on this play a part is working the bottom of the screen but once he realizes no one is coming open he's able to navigate the pocket and then find his checkdown man in Jordan Mason while pry didn't throw a touchdown in this preseason he did have several Elite throws maybe his best one was this one to George K where he was able to fit it above this linebacker and in between the safety I mean if this ball is off just a little bit it's most likely headed the other way and this throw would have been impressive in regular situations L alone being blasted by a defensive lineman another aspect of part's game I was watching closely throughout these preseason games was how often he was taken off to run throughout this offseason pry talked about how he wanted to make that more of a part of his game and so far I love how he's not just taking off every single time but doing it in an opportune circumstances like as you watch his play developing everyone has pretty tight man coverage and while he may be able to check down it's better if he just runs with it and with him seeing the lane forming he does just that and thanks to his under radar athleticism he picks up the first down and as he's about to be one of the most expensive players in the league it's smart to get down but I still think there's a weakness to PR's game that he's going to have to continue to overcome throughout the year and it's not necessarily anything he's doing but the play of his offensive line last year they routinely ranked in the back half the league and pass protection and when you watch a play like this you can see why Cole mckivitz is driven back by this defensive lineman and once he does jump up he doesn't punish him for doing so so he not only changed the trajectory of this pass but going forward he doesn't fear anything col mckivitz would do if he does jump up in there often offensive lineman will either throw this guy down or punch him extremely hard here and that's the type of deterrent that will help reduce some of these knockdowns especially later in the game and then when you're watching Brock P's interception it came on third down and and once again Cole mckivitz did him no favors giving up immediate pressure here and with him being forced to throw this quickly Deo Samuel was really his only option sure it might have been a little bit high but it was catchable and definitely not a terrible decision by Brock prie in my opinion so heading into his third year I expect Brock pie to continue to be one of the best quarterbacks across the entire National Football League but the one thing that will continue to hold him back is his offensive line play and that's especially the fact if Trent Williams isn't on the field outside the Brock py and the quarterback room though there's still the competition between Joshua dos and Brandon Allen both made the 53 man roster and even Kyle shenan admitted recently it's still neck and neck between them if I were to pick a backup I would put Joshua dobs over Brandon Allen based off their performances so far one of the biggest things I like about dos for instance is his ability to turn a seemingly negative play like here with a Defender right in his face into a positive one and while this is only a gain of three earlier in the preseason he scored touchdowns this way but dos is also able to find success within the offense here for instance you can see how he climbs up this pocket which gives T Martin enough time to find an opening in this defense and while Martin did fumble I thought this was a solid play from dos and even with the defender right in his face dos is still able to get off a pass to Braden Willis here and throughout this entire Raiders game you just saw efficient quarterback play from dos whether it be a dump off to Cameron latu or on this play with the defender right in his throwing Lane dos was still able to connect with Jacob coing on the SL his most impressive throw of the day though had to be the touchdown grab from Jacob Cen on this play if it was a half a second later this would have been picked off by the safety outside of Dos Brandon Allen had a couple of nice passes on the day maybe his best being this deep Corner route to Cameron latu but latu still had to slow down and when you're watching this deep Crosser from Jacob coing it's almost like Brandon Allen doesn't see the safety in the middle of the field and the only reason he isn't picked off is because Jacob coing comes back to this ball to w Allen isn't a terrible backup quarterback I don't think he's on the same level as Joshua dos as he doesn't have the same athleticism and dos has been able to make every single throw he has outside of these quarterbacks I thought it was a smart move for San Francisco to bring back Tanner morai to their practice squad he's not only their most athlet quarterback running his 40 yard Ash in 4.46 seconds but I would argue he's one of their most accurate on this naked boot for instance he not only has to outrun this Defender but flip his hips and put a ball on Ronnie Bell and as you can see Mory not only completes this pass but Bell doesn't even have to slow down so in the next couple of years I could definitely see morai developing into the true number two backup quarterback for San Francisco but ultimately these are just some of my thoughts about the quarterback play headed into this season and I want to hear your thoughts down below it would also mean a ton of me if you could like And subscribe and as always I hope you guys have a great rest of your day
