to talk more about this with me today as Republican strategist Evan sigfreed Evan welcome uh now let's talk about this Fox News debate uh question is will cona Harris agree to it well Renee I think she should but let's be honest here Donald Trump is misrepresenting the invitation that Fox News presented Fox News presented a couple of days ago an invitation to both the Harris and the Trump campaigns to appear on September 17th in Pennsylvania with uh with the moderators Brett Bear and Martha mcallum and they never said anything about an audience they never said anything about rules and they never said anything about September 4th so Donald Trump is basically pretending that this debate or the terms he put out in his truth last night are the actual terms of the debate so the Harris campaign should look at this and say wait a second what are the details of who's the audience going to be is it going to be Trump rally uh supporters or is it going to be entirely undecided voters who are there for an education on who they want to vote for and also what are the parameters what are the rules will the mics be cut like they were in the first debate with Joe Biden stuff along those lines now do you think Trump will follow through with a debate if it either isn't on Fox news or if it is but his parameters are not met well I think he risks more than uh he could gain from going into a debate that wouldn't be with Fox News with all respect to Brett be and Martha McCallum they are fine line top-of the notch journalists all other outlets he perceives as being hostile toward him and there's no better example of what happens to him under pressure than what happened to him on Wednesday at the national uh African-American black journal or the National American black journalist Association where he wilted under the questioning of ABC news's Rachel Scott and he then questioned Kamala Harris's racial identity and that is the type of thing that was such a disaster for Donald Trump because for the last four years he's been banned from a lot of the platforms that we would get the day in day out drama and grievance from him that Americans really decided he was unfit to be president because of and when he was banned from those platforms he sort of receded into the distant past and now with what happened on Wednesday American voters are turning tuning back in and saying wait a second that's why we didn't like Donald Trump in the first place now moving on to Harris's VP pick which will be announced next week uh there's a short list of about half a dozen or so uh contenders who do you believe is at the top I think it's really down to two names at this point of Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania as well as Mark Kelly the senator from Arizona Josh Shapiro has two knocks against him the first being that he's only been governor for two years yes he's been a state's attorney general for the previous eight but then there's the other thing and this would be something Republicans would drive home left and right and it would disarm a a line of attack against Donald Trump he has been accused of standing silently and potentially being a party to a coverup of one of his top AIDS sexually harassing another staffer in his office and Democrats have pointed out that that is a huge weakness and at the same time Mark Kelly does not seem to have that much baggage if any Mark Kelly is a US Naval Academy graduate he was a fighter pilot in the first Gulf War flying almost 40 combat missions he then became an astronaut and then he became uh he went on to become a spouse as supporting Gabrielle gords the former uh member of the House and he's was able to step back and away from the spotlight when Gabrielle gords was a member of Congress and Prime figure and that I something I think that the Harris team and particularly the vice president will appreciate in a vice president somebody who won't overshadow but the last thing that Mark Kelly has going for him is immigration he is on a border state and he understands the Nuance of immigration policy he has gotten very high remarks from Republican elected officials within the state and without for his handling of that as well as other issues well it'll be very interesting to see uh what happens this coming week Evan thank you very much for being here Republican strategist Evan Sig freed thanks for your time thank you Renee
