celebration many members of the church celebrated in their own way news specialist Dan rone has that story and joins us live Dan a lot happening outside of Temple Square yeah that's for sure DEA you know a spectacular event here at the conference center honoring president Nelson celebrating quite the Milestone that there can you believe it a 100 years old that's pretty amazing but a lot of latterday saints wanted to have their own celebration outside the conference center here kind of a day of service something they president Nelson would have really enjoyed happy birthday party for president Nelson a day of celebration in this South Jordan home for a man who was born in 1924 100 years old president Russell M Nelson the prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ to latterday Saints becoming the longest living president of the church since it was founded in 1830 that's amazing it's amazing but instead of writing cards to president Nelson those here are writing cards to others answering the call from president Nelson to reach out to the one we're making cards for people who need a little extra uplift I just wanted to drop you a quick note and share how much you mean to me how bright you always make my day Jenny Curtis organizes party her goal was to do 1,000 cards in 10 hours he would love it if people would reach out to the one and I just I loved that I did so much but this celebration was not alone [Applause] from California to [Music] Colorado to even Tonga all wanting to join in the celebration kindness doesn't cost you anything but without it it cost you everything but you can have a party happy [Applause] birthday without cake a delicious homemade cake if president Nelson wasn't at the conference center tonight he would want to be here and we wish him many many more years to come yeah what a great celebration there you know that party actually goes until 7:00 tonight they've done hundreds of cards so far something that President Nelson said just moments ago here to this crowd he said the length of your life is not as important as a kind of life that you live very well said Dey back to you well said and those cakes were impr impressive yeah this is quite a celebration thanks Dan
