from Europe now Germany tightening its borders in a new immigration Crackdown it's coming as migration strains public services and becomes a top issue for voters in Germany Jillian Turner is watching that story from the state department what are you hearing what are you learning Jillian hello so Bill uh us Ally Germany now is reversing course on its very long-held open border policies instead choosing to Tamp down on border security in order to protect its citizens from what German officials are calling islamist extremist terrorism and serious crossb crime take a listen I have ordered this today and have already notified the EU this serves to further limit irregular migration and to protect against acute dangers posed by islamist Terror and serious crime the Crackdown is a dramatic reversal on the open border policies Germany had with the rest of the European Union under the former prime minister Angela Merkel her Refugee policies were called by former president Donald Trump a quote catastrophic mistake now German officials say they're not the only European nations turning to stricter border laws they are touting this quote more than 30,000 people have been denied entry at the land borders with Poland Austria Switzerland and the Czech Republic just since October 2023 and because illegal immigration or migration or Refugee flows whatever one wants to call this phenomenon is upending and roiling a number of European societies uh you may see other countries looking to emulate Germany Germany's move of course follows years of deadly Terror attacks against civilians by undocumented migrants that have traumatized many of the country's citizens Europe's problem now so severe that here in the US the state department is Banning some European Executives from entering the US who they say are quote facilitating a regular migration to the US through Nicaragua what that means bill is apparently some uh European companies were flying undocumented people from Europe to Nicaragua in the hopes that these people would more easily gain access to the United States of course through the southern border Bill wow didn't see that one coming uh but I guess anything's possible Right Jillian St on it I know you will from the state department thank you
