as a devoted fan of Todd Phillips in his unique take on the Batman Universe I eagerly awaited the release of Joker fully Ado having watched the first caped film multiple times and being captivated by walk King Phoenix's riveting portrayal of Arthur Fleck I was excited to see how this sequel would unfold the views for Joker fol ad do are slowly emerging after its debut at the 81st Venice International Film Festival suggesting that the followup might be just as divisive as its 2019 counterpart early responses indicate a daring and audacious sequel but upon closer inspection it seems to fall short of those descriptions those attending mayor now posting their detailed reviews online and expressing their opinions on social media in summary multiple film critics have expressed disappointment with the film Joker fully OD did Andy wire found it to be intentionally bad and a troll-like attempt to anger fans and bore everyone else IGN noted its unfulfilled potential stating that while it began promisingly with an Innovative approach to Joker and Harvey Quinn it became bogged down by a lengthy horror room Saga which kept Lady Gaga in with shadows and focused to heavily on the original film without offering anything new variety echoed these sentiments criticizing the film for not living up to its audacious concept and failing to deliver an engaging narrative the hallwood reporter agreed describing the film as narratively thin and a Ed Gull both more on a conceit when the solid story foundation uh the music element in this film has been a subject of discussion since the sequel was announced uh and more so recently due to the creators are refusing to categorize it uh as a traditional musical to clarify the guardian expresses that it has elements of a musical with Phoenix and others singing show tunes frequently within dreamlike sequences uh somewhat similar to uh Dennis Potter's uh pennings from Heaven meanwhile BBC suggests that instead of propelling the story forward like songs in traditional musicals do they slow it down this leaves one with the impression that Philips may not have had enough plot to fill in another two hours without these musical interludes in some instances people of Praise fully Ado was an unusual film with deadline describing it as a unique musical experience saying infused with music dance humor Darkness animation drama violence and more this is a musical unlike any other Empire on the other hand refers to it as a Charming musical romance between two psychopathic characters and those present also seem to have a slightly favorable opinion of the movie they appreciated the uh acting skills shown by Walken Phoenix and Lady Gaga as well as uh the powerful music scenes in the film um it's worth mentioning that the initial movie didn't receive Universal praise from Critics on Rotten Tomatoes it scored 69% while Metacritic gave it a 59 out of 100 however this critical reception did hinder its success as it garnered a billion globally and was nominated for 11 Academy Awards including the prestigious Best Picture award but uh fully at your uh hit screens on October 4th
