after to 20 teams in austr rber League four brand new teams entering the comp North Queensland Cowboys Orland Warriors per Reds Western Reds and also South Queensland crushes this is supposed to be the dawn of a brand new exciting era but unfortunately the Super League War took hold in 1995 and eventually we had the IRL and Super League two years later in 997 two competitions and unfortunately the Western Reds and South Clin crushed GL just two three years only 95 96 97 and a lot of the established teams in the um ARL they obviously ripped the shreds by this ongoing Super League War so 995 was meant to be the dawn of a golden year but was actually the dawn of very trous year 95 96 97 in Str Rober league and cowboys they just happen to get the 9 95 wood spoon in their first year and they had many many heavy losses but we're going to forgive them it was only their first year so we're going to forgive them for performing poorly so cowo 995 wooden spoon from 22 games they won just two and almost 20 one away win in round eight against D and one home win in round 15 against western suburbs so the points they only managed to score 269 points and in defense considered 66 points for against - 391 like I said we're going to forgive them was the first year like I said forgive them for yeah performing so poorly um they did try their best you they were very entertaining they were trying a lot of things just hadn't gone with together so to speak cuz they were so brand new and the leading scorers Jonathan Davies he got one Try n goals and one field goal for a total of 43 points and the leading Cowboys Tri scorers two players the Wingers Justin lumens and also David bang both got nine Tri for them in N 95 so usually at this point I do the most embarrassing minus and Min in Sun but because it was cbo's first year we're going to do the first game they ever played EXC 995 round one they played at their hom ground Willows it was called Willow their first home ground and they had to play Bulldogs can bankstown Bulldogs had renamed themselves the Sydney bulldogs for 1995 and in the cboys first of the game they eventually lost to Sydney Bulldogs 32 points to 16 like I said they were very competitive they were um like in it like for long for think about the first 60 Minutes were in it eventually the Bulldogs class and experience just general Rob League know how got them the job done for them to win 32 points to 16 and the first ever yeah first of the Cowboys try scored by the fullback Damen Gibson and he got one go from one attempt and the other try in this one scored by the Cowboys interchange forward his name is Lee Groves Lee Groves he got the other try and father duraman getting three goals from four attemps for them so then other key games during the season one up just through the moments in the sun first the two games they won so in round eight 995 round 8 Cowboys have to go down the on play the illa Steelers Steelers had forged a fierce reputation for being one of the hardest teams to beat on home soil at this point in time but like I said the Super League War going on had ripped a lot of teams the streets a one of the casualties and they were in a nightmare form SL at this point in time and eventually Cowboys took this golden opportunity to win 14 points to 10 to get their first ever win to the dismay and the utter shock of the confounded bewildered Steelers fans who just who despite how poorly they were going expected to beat Cowboys who hadn't won a game yet comfortably but Cowboys caused one of the biggest upsets of all time 14 points 10 and it was Cowboys Winger David bang who got two tries and the cowboy Center Adrien vals he got one try he also got one goal for their 14 points in that one they good on them for finally getting their first away win and then around 15 the poor Cowboys home fans waiting up in Townville they have to wait until round 15 more than halfway through the season to get their first win at home but it finally came in round 15 when they beat West 31 points to 12 995 round 15 at Willow stadium and Camp was getting five excellent tries in that one again the fullback Damen Gibson got one also the halfback Jason Martin got a try the hooker John scen got a try the lock George Bart got a try and Ian dunan I've said before he played 5'8 in the round one game against Bulldogs while he was on the bench this time and he got enough try and the leading Point scorer Jonathan Davies he got five goals from six attempts and he also got a field goal I said he got one field goal in 95 or that was the game he got it in so unfortunately that was the only two games they won and I did say I did say we're going to forgive them for having a lot of heavy losses because it was their first year but still there were some embarrassing moments forgive them but they were embarrassing still four contenders this time for the most embarrassing moment either the round six lost to nor the round 11 lost to Newcastle the round 21 lers in George or the round 22 loster Sydney bogs drop your comment below in my opinion it's the round 22 lost to the Bulldogs is the most embarrassing moment so first of all in R six C had to go to North Sydney oval and play North Sydney bears and north in 95 were definitely flat track bullies meaning against all the Lesser teams they were ring up big scores but against all the top teams they didn't stand up and and beat any of the top teams so against a struggling team in Cowboys North managed to pulverize them 60 points to six north 60 Cowboys 6 995 round six northal North breezing 11 tries and eight goals past them and the only Cowboys try scored by the center Willie Morganson in that one and the other Center Adan vals getting one goal from one attempt there then round 11 an embarrassing loss at the KN Stadium Newcastle International Sports Center newcast 's 44 Cowboys 14 9 95 11 but at least though Jonathan Davis like I said the leading point scor I said he got one try for the year well that's the game he got a try in and he also got one goal from three attempts and the fullback Damen Gibson also got a CBO try on that one and the hooker Shane Christensen he also got a try in the round 11 lost tonight 444 so then two more the unfortunately to finish off the season have round 21 game they pulverized by St George 50 points to 14 but this was at home this was up at Willow stadium in front of the very disappointed home fans 50 points to 14 hiding from St George and St George putting nine tries and seven goals on them and the Cowboys only uh there 14 points two tries one by the hooker John scen and one by the lock Adrien vals I said Adrian vals was playing centers in in their other games he was playing lot on this occasion so try by John scan and by Adrian vals in the Lost toon George and three goals and three attempts by the fullback Richie Crestbrook so I'm mentioning a lot of different players playing in the same position yeah that was obviously a problem for Cowboys to 95 having a lot of injuries not having depth to cover those injuries and you have to use different players often which obviously doesn't help the team at all always helps if you have got if you have got the same players on the field um game in game out but that wasn't the case for them in '95 so then the final humiliation in my opinion the most embarrassing moment 995 around 22 they had to play Sydney Bulldogs again this time at Belmore which used to be bulldogs permanent home ground at the time they only played two games per year at B this season I think they should play at least like four or five there because this like such a like a spiritual like listed ground so to speak but anyway at the time was dogs on ground and the score was Bulldog 66 Cowboys 4 unbelievably 995 around 22 Bulldogs 66 Cowboys four the only Cowboys try again scored by the hooker John scy he probably worked out was a pretty good player and the fullback Richard Crestbrook he missed one attempted goal could have been even more humiliating believe it or not in this 66 points four Annihilation bulldog's got 13 tries but only seven go now that was very very unusual because at the time the bogs goal kicker his name was darlan and anyone who knows a little bit about rber League heard of darlan how he was one of the greatest goal kickers of all time easily on this occasion he only got seven goals from 13 attempts SP the player the goal kick of hallan's ilk to be getting 11 or 12 out of 13 maybe even a perfect 13 out of 13 which meant which means that the score could have obviously been 74 to four or 76 points to four or even 78 points to four so H only getting seven goals for 1 in attempts which is pretty much the only saving grace four poor old Cowboys there you go Cowboys 995 wouldn't spoon popped off dusted we're going to forgive him because it was the first year in 997 I said there was the ARL in the Super League so Cowboys were in the Super League in 97 and they got that wooden spoon as well again forgive them because all that drama going on was affecting all the teams but then three years after 97 in the year 2000 Cowboys got their third wooden spoon definitely go hard on them for getting that wooden spoon at that point they've been around long enough to know what they were doing and be playing better at that point in time but at least after the 2000 wooden spoon since then Cowboys haven't got haven't got another one since then so they've avoided it for 24 years since then at least there you go boy all day d47 a PM pop
