so excited not only because I have some dope energy in the room but I have phenomenal characters for this Deliverance the film must watch I got the only director Lee Daniels in the building and uh the beautiful audre day and the dope Kaleb m mlin in the building how y'all feeling great so good yeah amazing great not everybody talking L let's talk about the Deliverance of deeply emotional powerful film and when I got the screener I have to say I had been watching the DNC nonstop I had to literally put that on record I was glued amazing film Amazing film I have so many thoughts but I want to get your thoughts uh what explain who whoever wants to jump in first about the film what is the initial inspiration behind the project and what is it about and that shell the initial the initial inspiration about the project was that I needed to scare you to your higher power okay I wanted to scare you to for me it was scaring you to Jesus albe it Allah Buddha whoever that whoever that is you know it was about scaring you to your we're in dark times right so I really want to scare you to a place of belief because we need it right now we definitely need it and I know you you the message you hop for audience to take away from it I love that the Deliverance means so many in so many words so many things in the movie and you played Queen audre day and and love that you're just um just keep on moving forward in this acting world I know that you a dope singer but Queen your gift that creative Soul thank you was beaming blossoming and talk about your character Ebony Jackson um if that ain't a sister n oh oh my God what you what we laughed about this on said because this was actually like when we talked about it we talk about literally everything everything so we FaceTime either from the car or the bed a lot but you know when we were talking about the name of her character it just was funny this idea that this white mom would name her daughter like the blackest name she could think of like Ebony Jackson like she was like Picasso with the pen and I but I just think it's so hilarious to me um but her charact she's really uh I mean ebony is she's she's she's traumatized for sure but she's really beautiful and she is strong because she's figuring out she's a single mother right whose kids get you know uh the short of it again is that her kids get possessed by demons actually you know that's the the horror aspect of the movie um but there's a lot of elements to it she's not just fighting the demons for her kids but she's also fighting her own generational trauma so that she does not inflict those same things on her kids she's a budding alcoholic she's fighting the system um there is a woman Cynthia played by um Monique's character yes um that works for uh DCS that is coming to check on her because they don't believe that the kids are POS as they believe that she's beating the kids and in the beginning ebony doesn't know what to think um and so it's it's a story about really a black woman also not being believed she's fighting her family she's fighting the system she's fighting these literal demons and she's fighting her own cycle of trauma you know that she's she's endured uh to be the best mom she can be she's really trying to do the best she can with what it is that she has she also comes to Faith which I love to see I love to see her give her life to Christ in this movie I love to to because I think that represents what Lee talked about which is that you know I think that faith is an integral part whether as he said whether it's Allah whether it's Buddha whether it's yourself I think it's an integral part of survival and absolutely having hope you know absolutely and so we watch her on that Journey herself of redemption of forgiveness of people around her of herself um and she you know I I I won't tell you the outcome of the movie but I you know I think we watch a story of overcoming which I think is more beautiful even than the Demonic aspect of it absolutely Queen you were on point you understood the assignment as well as you young Rising Star Caleb you had uh a great unique energy you brought to the role What attracted you to this project as and how did you prepare for it because you know being with Supernatural dark demons and you know going through it um what would you say um this is a space that I've kind of used to being in in a way but um you know having a relationship with Lee before filing in this um I met him on Concrete Cowboy yeah um and how personal and like real he was and uh he reminded me of like my family and uh when I saw him uh I was like him and my mom will get along very well you know and like I I like you remind her me of a lot of her friends and um yeah you know this is a script and character I haven't played though and a story that is resonates with a lot of people on a deeper level um you know reading the script is you know it's like all right it's your classic horror but when you watch it it's it's like oh this is a kind of a like a blueprint on like some people's lives right like dealing with like childhood trauma dealing with your own like mindset um battling demons right uh and you don't really see black people on screen like this and very unique and watching even watching your interviews and seeing like your perspective on it I'm like yeah this is It's therapeutic to honestly watch like the outcome like what uh Andrew was saying the outcome of the story and um kind of like show the movies talking about battling faith and not not really exactly talking about it but you see it right and kind of scaring you into believing in like your higher power believing in a higher power who is Jesus who is God you know right I think it's almost in a class by itself Lee I don't even think it's a horor film it's like you got to put a different caption of it you know it's a faith-based thriller right faithed Faith B but here's the thing as you know he's this is the first time that we're really talking about it together fascinating and so what I go back to is this relationship that they have and man you know it's just so beautiful and so complicated and so layered mother son and what they did together you know what they did together you know it's just it's you got to see it it is emotional oh I did see it I'm not going to give it away but I saw the connection was like have they done this before and I had to go back to say no y I know you worked with Le before but I know how you prepare for the rols because immediately as the energy all came and was like you need to each other from several months of Sunday so when you collaborate you know which is key in any film your collaboration seemed automatic so it's it's hysterical because in the script originally he was written to say nothing he was written to say nothing so that when he first spoke he turns to me he goes can I say what actually happened on set please so the first time I ever spoke on screen they well do you guys call it the god mic the god mic right yeah it's not really but basically he has control over the whole set and he's able to like speak everyone listens speaker Everything Lee says what was that that was horrible I'm like we've never spoke about the character before I was that was it was insane I did my lines I'm thinking I did good everyone's on so you're reading from your energy he had different perspective he's like that was horrible what he comes he comes in room what what what was that oh my god did I really say that yes but no mean to I don't mean no but no no no no no that's a great thing I I feel so I'm a theater actor I I started off from theater I've gotten worse so I forget what I say I just go into i l it no I I I rather a raw like like I said how many times I said it was another person who has been on set with him as well more than one time that is your favorite thing about Le yeah you're going to keep it a buck yeah i' rather you keep it a why did he just let that go I said the of Le is like if he says we got it you know it's not just like he got what he could take it's Stella so but I'm I tell I'm from the school of Lee and Tasha Smith who also in the movie amazing role she play my favorite about her I'll be at acting class with her coaching with her session with her and I'll do it like he said thinking I'm killing it and wait for her response she be like yes it's terrible sis I'm like God yeah no yeah I'm like okay but you need that because if you really want to be great it it it inspires you to like okay well let me do better let me do better let me understand what you want absolutely but that's a safe place I mean there's no political correctness when you're on a set when you're on my set because we can't we can't sugarcoat it we can't but I have to be careful cuz you know HR people around oh yeah you know what I'm saying you got real careful HR people around but but they wouldn't even let us pray in the beginning they said you know HR people came down and was like no you Netflix said you can't pray HR it's like well we going to pray right this is the movie about demons we going to have to pray that around us cover us hit it hit it for those that don't want to right well I I was going to say with you dealing with those dark deep Spirits uh you know demonic how did you handle that and did you have any odd Supernatural things happen throughout the theme of this movie we did we did um I didn't want to do the film first because I felt that it was it was about Darkness know it was about demons and then it was was horror but like you said it cannot be categorized because I I it's a we're in dark times I wanted to find the light and I realized that it was important for me to be surrounded by faith faith these both of these people are Faith deeply rooted in faith right and for me it was about my journey with Christ to become closer with Christ because you don't know tomorrow's tomorrow's like is absolutely so uh well it definitely was a deliverance and I I I don't want to I definitely we're not going to give it away because I mean it was an incredible story when I say it took you through suspense to Faith I literally went through every emotion like you know just wow she did I really did good look book me I'll be an extra H start somewhere you know creative Souls you can do several things well you know so I'm going to ask you um you Caleb if you could describe the film in just three words and I'm going ask each of you what would they be and why three words I know it may be hard H uh you guys are going have to take this one I'm G to have to think want to go really yeah cuz well you what it is it's deeper than just scary right family uh Faith like it's it's deeper than that well it is the three words I think he said faith based Thriller but I wanted to give takeways right you get something different yeah uh like without saying that yeah right um believe black women yes oh where're oh like that no I'm just saying that's where I'm going with but you know you can go anywhere come on Caleb be creative that's what I'm trying to do creativity takes time Mr two years got a lot of thoughts working around in there well all I know that it's already in select theater but it's a mustat on Netflix coming out August 30th and I know that you wanted to land the message for the audience you hope for the takeaway I just it is so important that we find our high power it is so important that we find our higher power yes it is so important I say it three times that we find our higher mhm incredible you guys have been so amazing I don't even want you to and the music and the film as well Queen did you do any part of that uh yeah you will hear the song it was the the end title song um it was actually such a blessing I got to work with Warren Campbell love my pastor um so I got to work with him on the end title song we just got in I think there was like it was a few options I mean he was kind of like batting around a few different ideas for what he wanted at the end and I think there were a few song ideas that when we came down to it and then I went in with um Warren and Lee hit back and he was like I love it I abolutely love it it was something that Warren had actually written a while ago so it's kind of like a remake of that song so very excited about about that as well love it deeply emotional powerful film guys you do not want to miss watching it coming out on Netflix August 30th it's a Netflix mustat night to just have a watch
