you are about to calgary pride as well as many other fabulous organizations across the community have been hosting a ton of workshops webinars and sessions to help us broaden our understanding of the lgbtq2s plus community and beyond for the next several weeks there will be an abundance of learning series sessions available to all who wish to attend some sessions that are coming up include gross indecency the everett clipper story on august 15th at 7 p.m join director laura o'grady kevin allen and laura brian crane to discuss everett clipper the last canadian to be jailed on homosexuality with an update on the case to expunge his record another session coming up is fem invisibility on august 17th at noon join ruby slicker in exploring the power and struggles of the identity as well as better understanding the similarities and differences in femme lived experience Upcoming Learning Series there are so many other workshops coming your way soon including ones on financial literacy and project yyc pop portraits of people ywc pop is a multi-aspect project a published book online exhibit and poetry in transit carrie d wilson is excited at this time to announce a new aspect of this project poetry by the students of calgary they are inviting the students of calgary to submit poems of a portrait of someone they know students of all ages are welcome to write a portrait in a form of a poem prose poem or snapshot about a calgarian cash prizes will be awarded to the top three poems first place a hundred dollars second place fifty dollars and third place twenty five dollars a panel of illustrious judges will be announced to decide the winners this is a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their talents with an added potential to have their writing published alongside professional writers the deadline for submissions is august 16 2020 that's this sunday submissions can be made through www.sherrydwilson.com Coming Out Monologues if you've got a story we've got a stage calgary queer art society is hosting the coming l monologues from august 20th to august 22nd and you can tune in from the comfort of your own home the coming out monologues yyc are a celebration of community that bring the diverse selection of spoken word movement and musical pieces to the stage every season beginning in 2011 the coming out monologues yyc provides a stage for queer and ally stories to be shared whether attending as an audience member or as a storyteller from a stage they're coming on monologues provide the entire community an opportunity to celebrate diversity in our city the power around lgbtq2s plus people telling their stories in person creates a special bond between storyteller and the audience that we want to preserve each evening's performances will be
