Intro Sheldon Creed and Sam Mayer are on the move and drivers have mixed reactions to the Austin Dylan [Music] penalty how's it going y'all my name is Eric welcome to out of the groove as we wait out this Michigan rain delay together race has been postponed to tomorrow Monday at 11:00 a.m. eastern time this does give us the perfect opportunity to catch up on the biggest stories and most interesting quotes from this weekend so far yesterday hos Factory team announced that Sheldon Creed and Sam mayor will drive their two exfinity series Fords next season Sheldon Creed currently with Joe Gibbs Racing will drive the double zero next year while Sam Mayer will leave Junior Motorsports to drive the number 41 yes Riley herps this means RP to the 98 at least for now both Herpst and Chase Brisco who helped make the 98 famous sort of paying their respect on social media but back to business these are both very interesting moves the Sheldon Creed toos rumors have been out there for a few weeks the Sam mayor toas rumors only popped up in recent days let's start with Sheldon Creed look he's nearly 27 years old and has still not won a single Xfinity Series race I know Sheldon Creed I know but Eric what about his now after yesterday 11 second place finishes that's a record the dude is good I've never said Sheldon Creed isn't good he's a Truck Series champion a recent Truck Series champion for goodness sake obviously he's good he has more top fives than anyone in Xfinity this year but there's there's a disconnect there's an inconsistency an inability to seal the deal Creed does have the most top fives in exfinity this year that was a correct stat but he's seventh in the standings you'd think he'd be a little higher up well part of the problem is he doesn't have any stage wins he's only got the 12 most laps LED this year Carson qule on a part-time schedule has led more laps that's my point I think Sheldon Creed is good he's talented obviously brings some funding but this will be his third team his third manufacturer in less than 3 years and like I said next month will turn 27 years old he's good one day he is going to win an xinity Series race he'll likely win several he very well may make it to the Nascar Cup series one day but in this day and age when we talk about about top NASCAR prospects we mentioned guys like Carson capple or Connor zillich or Corey Heim I don't feel like Sheldon Creed is in that conversation he's not top five if we're talking future Cup Series prospects and bouncing around from Team to team manufactur a manufacture every single year I don't believe is good for a young driver's development sometimes it's good to see how different teams operate meet new people but at some point you need to build a foundation you find people you can work with you begin to have success and you Foster those relationships for several years Sheldon Creed by and large has not had that opportunity in the xinity series so I don't know how to feel about this move I think he'll be competitive next year I think hos Factory team will still be good in Infinity I expect Creed to make the playoffs probably win a race at some point but hey we've been saying that for a few years now I don't think this is a bad move I just don't think it's an amazing move I'm indifferent to Sheldon Creed at this point I hope he wins a race eventually but again we've been saying that for years it's kind of tiring at this point it's I want the meme to die 11 second place finishes without a win Goodness Me goodness gracious let's talk about Sam Mayer because this is the more surprising move in my opinion mayor has raced for Junior Motorsports the past three seasons since the start of last year he's got six wins this year he's got two wins but after crashing out early at Michigan he's down to 13th in the regular season point standings see that's the big issue with Sam Mayer I know he wants to go Cup Series racing and we'll talk about that in a moment but on the exfinity side he's still a little up and down a little too inconsistent I don't think always puts himself in the best positions and he's only 21 years old still extremely young I'm glad he's in exfinity for another season but I'm a little surprised to see him leave the comfort of Junior Motorsports for sort of an unknown that is hos Factory team mayor had this to say during the announcement yesterday quote cup is the ultimate goal and to really push myself to become the kind of driver who can succeed in cup I needed to get out of of my comfort zone challenge myself and hone my race skills so when that cut moment arrives I'm Ready the hos team got Cole kuster ready for his moment and it's a place that will help get me and Sheldon ready for our moments of course we know there's more to these decisions than ultimately meets the eye who has funding who doesn't was there still an opportunity at Junior Motorsports or were they choosing to go in a different direction we don't know but if we take Sam mayor's comments at face value obviously he wants to go cup bracing one day he made that abundantly clear earlier this season I think one day he could be a legitimate Cup Series driver I argued all summer that he's not quite ready yet and it seems the universe agrees he'll be back in exfinity for another season if you're a Sam mayor fan I guess this is an exciting move because I do see a somewhat clearer path to cup through the Ford system like and I understand manufacturer loyalties aren't what they used to be I feel we see Chevy guys pick up Ford guys or they get someone from the Toyota system like guys jump between manufacturers all the time but Sam mayor has been with Chevrolet for quite a while now and the Chevy development pipeline is pretty clogged up with exciting young Talent obviously they've got you know Carson hos ofar just got a cup series ride Zane Smith is with track house/ Spire although I guess he could be on the move soon there's Shane Van gisbergen vying for a seat at track house young guys like Connor zillich making a lot of noise compare that to Ford Riley herps very well may leave for for Toyota Cole kuster is going to cup but in Infinity it will be Sheldon Creed and S Mayer that's about it front rows added a seat RFK potentially could add a seat some rumors from this past week I'm not sure the path to cup is much clearer than it was at Chevrolet but there does seem to be less competition I think so if you're Sam Mayer and as he's made clear his ultimate goal is to get to The Cup Series then a move over to hos to Ford makes some sense we'll see how Sam Mayer does next season again only 21 years old I think one day he'll be Cup Series ready he's just not quite there yet as I've said all along we need a larger sample size and we need to see more consistency stay out of trouble even if it's not your own doing you know what they say in racing you make your own luck often that's true I want to see Sam Mayer make more of his own luck here the rest of this season and going into next season so Sam Mayer Sheldon Creed headed to hos Factory team who saw that coming back in shoot even April I guess nobody did hos Factory team wasn't a thing back in April anyway one more NASCAR News announcement I just want to touch on this has been reported on for months at this point but yesterday NASCAR made it official The Clash will head to Bowman gry Stadium February 2nd 2025 the race will be broadcast on Fox it's going to be packed it's going to be cold it's going to be crazy they don't call this place the mad house for no reason I don't have much else to add it's a historic racetrack I love using these exhibition races as opportunities to experiment with crazy ideas a clash in a football stadium now bringing it to a quarter mile Bowman Gray Allstar race at a revamped North wilksboro a few years ago when they put underglow on the cars you name it these non-points races should be used to experiment and NASCAR by and large has done a good job of doing that the past few years Bowman Gray is just a continuation of those efforts so I'm excited hope it's fun what's your reaction to this news officially being confirmed let me know down in the comment section below now before we wrap things up the whole story last week was Austin Dylan how he won at Richmond and then how NASCAR took away much of that Victory on Wednesday in case you somehow missed it on Wednesday NASCAR upheld Austin Dylan's Victory but said he could not use that win towards playoff eligibility so Austin Dylan as of right now is no longer in the Nascar Cup series playoffs he was also docked 25 driver owner points and his spotter was suspended for three races Richard child racing is appealing this penalty and according to reports that hearing is set for this coming Wednesday here in just a few days now with the Michigan postponement who knows that might change the schedule but for now at least the hearing is on Wednesday so we should know later this week if the ruling stands or if the independent appeals panel changes things they've surprised Us in the past drivers at Michigan this weekend were all asked about the incident itself but more importantly how NASCAR ruled later in the week and do they feel Nascar has clearly established a line that drivers should or should not cross there's this good quote from Michael McDow he said are we going to be boys have at it and do anything you can to win a race and get your team into the playoffs or is there going to be a sporting conduct and a code that says we want you to race hard and we want you to go for it but there's a limit the line was crossed and NASCAR responded correctly Danny Hamlin echoed comments he made on his podcast recently he does feel that drivers know where the line is he said this weekend quote I think in the future you just send whoever it is to the back and it all fixes itself you don't have to worry about playoff eligibility and stuff like that given how much time it took I think it was probably the right call other drivers seemed less clear on where that line truly is Brad kazlowski who's not only a driver but also a te team owner said this quote it's clear that we'll just keep moving the line whatever that line is if we don't know where the line is we'll just keep pushing to more and more extremes that's not limited to Austin Dylan that's just the entire industry Kyle Bush Austin Dylan's teammate I read this in the Athletics straight up said he doesn't know where the line is he said quote they all want to say we know where the line is we don't know where the line is legano flat out wrecked me at Vegas for third place in the exact fashion that Dylan knocked him out of the way for a win that's why he got punched in the face Kyle bus referring to 2017 yes legano went in too hard spun Kyle bus out I don't think that incident is as comparable to Richmond Sunday night as Kyle Bush would like us to believe but he makes a point he doesn't feel confident he knows where the line is okay I don't know I think it's pretty clear where the line is NASCAR is going to be as hands off as they possibly can but if you blatantly take someone out for a win to qualify for the playoffs or for a spot in the next round or to win the championship at Phoenix they are going to act they maybe haven't acted in the past this was NASCAR establishing I believe a new precedent and like I said last week I don't love the idea of setting new precedents Midway through a single season I'd rather you make those changes to the ruber during the off season but regardless of how you feel about the timing I think it's good that NASCAR set this precedent ultimately that there is a line you can cross and Austin Dylan blatantly wrecking two cars for the win Sunday night in a desperation move was crossing the line so Kyle Bush can say it's murky Brad keslowski can say it's ambiguous I don't really think it is there will be some in the future gray area calls but I don't think it will be as controversial as some of these drivers seem to suggest if you go back and watch my videos from this past week we looked at several controversial moves and incidents from the past few seasons and it wasn't as hard as I thought to decide which ones would warrant a penalty under this current ruling and which ones would not I think the only move that really was controversial that would be hard to decide on today was legano punting William Byron at Darlington he didn't ride hook anyone he didn't drive in from three four car lengths back but he did pretty blatantly send a guy into the wall for the win was it fair retaliation that one would be controversial but basically every other incident folks have brought up the past week the decision has been pretty easy so I think going forward there will be some controversy but it's not going to be as hard to decide where that line is as some of these drivers seem to suggest anyway going to wrap things up there thank you all so much for tuning into this episode hopefully the Michigan race can start on schedule tomorrow morning I will see you all afterwards leave a like on this video If you enjoyed subscribe for more and a big thank you to my very generous patreon supporters as always have a wonderful rest of your weekend folks I will see you again real soon take care
