Denver weather: Storm chances increase this afternoon

e e e e e e e happy Wednesday 9 News meteorologist Lauren Robinson here with a check of your virtual forecast we're still in the clear right now around Denver but we are watching for some showers and storms to push in later this afternoon let's go ahead and take a look over downtown Denver that cloud cover really building in there we're going to continue to see it get cloudier through the earlier afternoon hours and then we're going to watch for those showers during the middle to late afternoon and evening hours tonight and some lingering showers and storms across the area overnight and into early Thursday so right now Dia still only partial cloud cover there 79° winds coming down from the north at around 12 mph across the northern half of the Front Range and Eastern Plains noticeably cooler today we're in the 70s and low 80s we're still seeing um we're also seeing some 70s and 80s to the South but we're still seeing those 50s 6070s in the High Country a little warmer out west as we take a look at our live radar you can see that line of showers and storms across Northern portions of the High Country starting to push their way into Fort Collins right now mostly falling over Grand Lake kremling Winter Park down through eagle and Veil and then that's going to move its way Eastward we're going to watch for that to push its way into the I 25 Corridor in the meantime we're seeing some light sprinkles off to the Northeast there near Raymer and Sterling those are going to be pretty light not even all of that reaching the ground quite yet but as we plan out the rest of the day we take a wide look at our Colorado future cast by around noon we're still seeing that cloud cover building across Denver we're watching for those showers and storms to start to push into Fort Collins that line continues its way across the I25 Corridor really filling in by 2 3 4:00 where you can see those scattered showers and storms there and then they kind of continue to Bubble across the I25 Corridor all the way through around Rush Hour 5 6 7:00 all the way through dinner um we're also going to watch for the northeastern corner of the state to just see those on andof showers and storms lasting through the overnight hours and into early Thursday before they move Southward Thursday morning we zoom in to the Front Range and we plan out our day again by noon we're still looking for that cloud cover to build in across Denver by 2 3:00 it's starting to rain um and we're starting to see those storms across the I25 Corridor mostly the urban Corridor there from Denver up through Fort Collins and then we're just watching for those on andof showers through the rest of the afternoon this look when we zoom in a little further and we're looking specifically at Denver we get a little bit of a dry spell between around 6:00 and 900 p.m. and then we look for our second round to hit between 91: tonight and then just some uh lingering showers and storms through early Thursday that'll even ually push its way Southward so as far as severe weather is concerned the northern half of Colorado mostly under a marginal risk for severe weather today our biggest impacts are looking to be maybe some small hail Gusty winds up to around 50 60 milph and of course those locally heavy down pores we go throughout our Thursday we pick up where we left off on that future cast by Thursday morning those lingering showers and storms across the Front Range and Eastern Plains push their way Southward by Thursday afternoon we're looking for those showers and storms along Southern portions of the I25 Corridor and then we build back out um pushing those storms out of Colorado by Thursday evening making way for a drier warmer weekend ahead as you take a look at our forecast highs for today the Front Range mostly going to peak in the middle or middle 80s excuse me uh we're looking for those 60s and 70s as you make your way Westward into the Foothills and High Country overnight we're going to see those lows in the 50s still pretty mild for this time of year 30s and 40s up in the mountains and the next few days we're going to see temperatures drop a bit before they rise back up so today we're in the middle 80s then we're going to drop into the 70s for our Thursday and then by the weekend we're looking for uh sunny skies to return warmer weather returns we slowly start to climb with those temperatures and then we're back in the low 90s by next Monday and Tuesday so again we're still dry outside in Denver I'm taking a look outside and even seeing some sunshine there we're going to continue to watch for that cloud cover to build up through the early afternoon hours and then by 2 through 4:00 we're looking for those scattered showers and storms to really fill in across the urban corridor from Denver up through Fort Collins they linger through around 6:00 or so then a main portion of that pushes into the Northern Plains we get a little break in Denver and then during the late night hours 910 overnight we're looking for another round of those showers and storms in Denver so we're really going to watch for on andof showers and storms across the entire Northeastern corner of Colorado um through the overnight hours and into early tomorrow tomorrow we're going to watch for most of that to push its way Southward before moving out of Colorado Thursday evening temperatures today middle 80s pretty seasonal for this time of year then we drop into the middle 70s tomorrow quite a bit cooler noticeably cooler in fact and then as we go into the weekend we'll see more Sunshine for our Friday Saturday and Sunday temperatures increasing increasing a bit each day so I will have an updated forecast for you today on 9 News at noon and this evening you'll
