hey there Randy Walker World tennis magazine.com coming to you from the US Open we're just outside the gates here behind me is Court 17 and as I'm walking here in Corona Park just outside the gates I was reminded of one of the very unique episodes in US Open history and it involved Matteo bartini of Italy during the fanless covid Us open in 2020 when no fans were allowed but Matteo bertini has a super fan in New York City his name is Giovani my phone isn't working here Giovani baroi who is the owner of the Via Dela Place restaurant in Manhattan and Giovani would stand outside the gates here since know there were no fans allowed here and he would be screaming for mato uh during uh points I guess he was you know watching live on the ESPN app and following the score could hear the Umpire or whatever uh but he was standing right outside the gates here Corona Park Court 17 is right behind us you can see uh Ash stadium roof and right now on court 17 for the qualifying tournament we have Dennis kudla against Richard gase so uh kind of a fun remember remance of Us open past during the fanless US Open they should put a little plaque here for Giovani to uh commemorate his super fandom at the US Open So Randy Walker World tennis magazine.com over and out
