against the Cardinals and DV go back to yesterday things really got away from the Dodgers in that eighth inning in particular Daniel Hudson well things just imploded on the mound for him yeah the Dodgers were fit to be tied in that inning and really Dave Roberts said it after the game and we had a chance to talk to Daniel Hudson after the game he tried to get his foot out of the way twice during that inning that went completely off the rails for him and the Dodgers Brewers scoring three runs and the Dodgers again blow a late inning lead here's what the veteran reliever had to say about those sequence of events that took place to create havoc in the eighth inning I went between my legs and hit my gloves tried to get out of the way just couldn't do it and then second one just CAU the bottom of my my shoe so I didn't even feel both of either of them so the first one look like a double play I thought so um you know we actually did pfps and practice getting out of the way of those balls and you know I just wasn't able to do it uh you know it's frustrating but at the end of the day still got to execute and uh I just wasn't a to do that you got to be quick out there to get out of the way especially when you give up a leadoff double and then you walk somebody a double play definitely would have helped Daniel Hudson to get out of that inning and what compounded all that was the fact that uh the Dodgers had to come up in the the top of the ninth inning against one of the best closers in baseball down two runs so that completely changed the game and more ways than one and obviously a disappointing end to a series that saw the Dodgers win the first two games in Milwaukee and only Come Away with a split David is driven by Ford if there's one thing we like its choice is tonight and moving forward this weekend Dave the bullpen for the Dodgers we we touched on Daniel Hudson what happened yesterday in the eth inning Michael copc came in and pitched a one 123 sixth inning uh is there a chance Michael copc is going to get more opportunities later in games now you would imagine so uh look the average around major league b baseball forever's whiff rate is 27% Michael copc is getting almost 50% whiff rate uh when he comes into the game as a Dodger he hasn't allowed a run he's only walked one batter which was uh something to keep an eye on because he did struggle with command in Chicago the Dodgers have encouraged him to use his cutter more but just coming to the Dodgers it seems like talking to him and Mark Prior have has rejuvenated him and given G him some extra life so Michael copc to meet Tim uh I know the Dodgers do it by groupings of hitters eighth or ninth inning it should be his no doubt about it final thing David yoshinobu Yamamoto getting closer we know he was playing long TOS you talked about that some Bullpen sessions now what's the latest well today uh two innings simulated game as was scheduled Yamamoto is here a lot of Dodger players were watching his simulated game as well as Dodger GM Brandon Gomes it seemed like it went really well and the next step for Yamamoto would be to start the rehab game so he could return the first week of September and boy do the Dodgers need him I mean we could talk about him being a rookie 25 years old a long-term investment but the Dodgers signed him not only for 5 years from now they signed him to be a big-time pitcher this year including the posting fee the Dodgers have invested almost $400 million in the sky yeah they're going to need his arm in those Innings immediately rivalry it's not Dodgers Giants but it's a close second well they're two very stored franchises and two franchis I think uh also I think have the best uniforms in baseball I I I really do I've always felt that way um yeah this is a these are uniforms that are basically collector's items and uh the great history and here in this ballpark I mean they they're very proud of the history they posted on a big board out in right field with the World Championships that they've been able to acquire but if we look at the last number of years of the St Louis Cardinals and not to distract from talking about the game but the Cardinals they don't look like the same teams over the last 5 or six years I'm talking about you know you used to come in here and understand that the Cardinals were always known along with the Dodgers being fundamentally sound I don't think at least for my perspective I have not really noticed that the last 5 six years that we've been here you know it's interesting just ran into Benji Molina in the hallway and he said you know what the Cardinals are having a tough time against really good starting pitchers or just above average starting pitchers and they're also having a tough time against pitchers they've never seen before and I said it sounds like you're saying they're having trouble hitting or or is it having trouble scarying for maybe I mean here's the deal if you're having difficulty against pictures you've never seen before um what is there Advanced scouting obviously it's not going to be as thick of a file as it would be against say uh what they've done in the past against kersha you know long story in his career uh they don't have the numbers to back that up but uh where is their scouting what's the anticipation because the doctors when they have meetings I mean how much you talking about fastball curveball change up slider or Tendencies and we're going to talk about Tendencies a little bit later on during the ball game uh in particular with the picture the divers will be facing in tonight's ball game but uh from an offense a standpoint the Dodgers need to get something going a little bit better in particular you know the the loss yesterday uh it really magnified a number that I found rather astounding uh when the Dodgers Trail after eight Innings this year they're 3 and 42 3 and 42 the last victory that they've had uh with trailing after eight that was on the 20th of July against Boston at Dodger Stadium they trailed 4 to 3 after 8 eventually went at 7 to6 11 Innings when I saw that number and had a confirm I had to check it again in fact I checked it three different times because the number just jumps out at you yeah when you're losing after eight you're probably facing a closer as good as Devin Williams the last two games exactly I mean you're going to be facing the best that the other team has to to offer but uh I think the Dodgers also have some of the best hitters to offer and in particularly uh right now I mean Gavin Lux has been red hot Ki hernandz now starting to swing the bat much better you look at tcar Hernandez what he's been able to do Freddy Freeman working in some some base hits as well you've got Muki bets's back now um now they need to get sh Otani kind of untracked because the last eight games he's hitting 118 and if you look since July 28th sh Otani for everything that he can do is hitting just a buck 45 yeah it feels like uh Dave Roberts and the Dodgers are trying to let Otani know you don't have to do it all by yourself and he gets into these type of mindsets where he's trying to do too much with Runners and scoring position yeah and and you can't have the guys just go up to home plate and field or get forced into a situation where they feel I've got to carry majority of the load and that may be one of the things that he's done I hope he realizes hey you've got Mooky bets back in the lineup now who had so many different things Kevin km will start in tonight's ball game as well in center field but this is the ball club that understands full well the Cardinals are one game below 500 they would love to be able to turn around and try and do it in a hurry cuz they're grasping for straws right now to even have a chance to look at postseason play it's funny you bring that up because tonight's starter miles michelis he had some bulletin board material for the Dodgers before the season even started or during spring training where he said the Dodgers are playing checkbook baseball and US Farmers out here would love to stick it to the Dodgers yeah well a checkbook baseball the last five starts that U he's had a 71 ER 7-Eleven is a nice place to go if you need a drink yeah yeah during your time qus your thirst but 7-Eleven ra uh that's not convenient when you played there was such a thing as bulletin board material but do you feel like nowadays there's bulletin board material well David let's let's start at the beginning um this is now refined billboard stuff right we used to call it trash talk yeah come on but now it's bulletin board stuff no I I prefer to just just leave it as trash talk I would hope the Dodgers will respond with baseball you love fantasy football as much as anybody so last night the team had its Fantasy Draft you had the number nine pick in the draft out of a 12 team League are you happy with the way turns things turned out I had the 11th pick in the league and um yeah I like the team I don't love the team I don't know sometimes sometimes it just doesn't go your way but sometimes those are your best teams too so I uh yeah I mean I like my players I like my players who was your first pick at 11 Jonathan Taylor I like yeah I like Jonathan Taylor then I went Garrett Wilson then I went uh man I went while you think about that can you reveal to us some of the scatter reports on your teammates on how good they draft and maybe some that you feel like you could take advantage of I think everybody did pretty good I probably like um I think I think uh I think beer actually did good for once wow I think um I think Phillips team's pretty good I think huie and uh mcginness Zoo the number one pick and then I think I think I think Kershaw really messed up but you know time time will time will tell see Kershaw's got such a big heart he takes on a marginal staff member as his teammate whether it be the video coordinator in years past now one of the player relations guys why does he hand the keys over to these guys that really don't know yeah Juan Dorado I think is the the co coowner yeah that's he but K does pretty good every time he doesn't really know much about fantasy but he kind of wins a lot I heard he demands at least one Cowboy yeah and if you don't win he gets really mad so he like Juan Dorado has has a tough job all right Austin Barnes thank you for the fantasy advice can we move on to baseball now yeah for sure St Louis the Cardinals you guys split four games in Milwaukee where would you say the team is at right now and the level of urgency considering the race is tighter uh I mean I think every game you know we play to win the game so level of urgency you know obviously we're aware of the situation and you know obviously it's a they're playing some good baseball in the L West right now um you know we're getting healthy I think having mooki back was a big boost uh we played some you know tough Milwaukee team out in there played pretty good the first two days and you know the second second I mean the third and fourth day we didn't didn't get the W's and felt like we probably should have the third um you know we just got to keep going keep moving forward and I think we're in a good spot you're the longest tenured position player on this team you've seen a lot of different races you've seen dominant Dodger teams you've been on those teams obviously does this resemble maybe 2018 or 21 when you guys were in a dog fight you know all I mean all these teams have you know different um you know identities different personalities and um yeah I mean we obviously we being in a um a race is a little bit different than you know some years some years we just you know we win the division and look into the playoffs and you know maybe it's good for us to play some meaningful games early on um you know going in the playoffs and and take care of business I think I think from you know from here on out we got to treat every game you know like obviously we treat every game like we have to win and we play every game to win but you know that mentality might be good for us Gavin Stone the only 10-game winner on the Dodger starting staff what have you appreciated the most about him in his rookie season oh his consistency his uh demeanor his ability to be the same every day you know in this um you know sometimes it's a little bit of a pressure cooker of the big leagues you know when you're not playing well not pitching well or just doing anything and you you know he's the same guy every day puts his head down just comes to work and uh can't say enough good things about Gavin Stone I think he's uh going to be a really really good pitcher in this league for a while before I let you go I hate always asking you about Kershaw but it seems like you guys have had this tight Bond what have you seen from him as far as taking the steps forward to where he needs to be by the end of the year you know he just he goes out there he pitches um you know I think he's pitching really well right now I thought he mixed stuff really well in Milwaukee and you know he come the next day he moves on and it works to the next start so I think that's really um just commendable just um just how you have to work um keep going every day you know keep getting better and he works for the next the next start the next win he doesn't hang too long on what happened the last game and um you know he keeps moving so I think I think he's going be a good spot I think he's mentally and physically in a in a really well good spot to you know pitch these games for us how do you see the game and the seasons differently for yourself considering like I said you're the longest tene position player on this team you've seen almost everything as far as different seasons different paths uh do you do you feel like you have that experience now that nothing is going to surprise you yeah I mean it's just you can't let let things really you know affect you during the season obviously there's going to be bups in the road I think uh at the end of the day it's uh about a team who you know kind of comes together and gets hot together in in October who plays a certain type of baseball um kind of feel like you know what wins in the playoffs you know obviously we've been there enough and played in some important games that you know I feel like we know what wins and doesn't win um so we have some experience there and I think um as a team you know you just have to come in there you have to play baseball and you have to play a kind of a Fearless you know type of ball that you know playoffs are different than regular season so I think it's a it's a fun test and you know luckily enough we're in the playoffs every year so um you know this it will be fun Barnes magic for another year here in 2024 thanks a lot for the time and good luck in fantasy football thanks
