well the Texans and the Rams continuing their joint practices in advance of their preseason game in htown on Saturday neither team expected to play their starters this Saturday uh but getting in plenty of work today as you know the Texans one of the trendy teams coming off a division title and made moves to get even better adding a pair of players with double digit sacks last year and denil Hunter and Deno ay on offense just the fifth team ever to add a thousand yard rusher in a th000 yard receiver from the previous year trading for Joe Mixon and Stefan Diggs CJ stoud asked about his new wide out earlier today that's improved drastically I think you know me and him kind of already had a natural connection on the field and you know we just built it and built it and built it so think you seen it on the field and just you know just reps after rep after rep just me and him have a conver conversation talking about things we like we don't like you know and just being transparent but you know it's going to continue to grow and you know it's going to be a special connection and Woody we got Nico Collins back tank Dell is healthy this sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun uh what are your expectations for this offense this season how powered there's a lot of miles to feed in this offense a lot of miles to feed you know before even before the Stefan Diggs trade I mean I always thought that the weapons in Houston they had some of the best weapons in the National Football League and offensive coordinator Bobby slowick has done massal job working with CJ St and and his his Concepts and designs on offense you know it's really just some of the best that we've seen in the National Football League but you know when you enter on Stefan dicks who's obviously coming over and he's in a contract year he's going to be out to prove that what's been going on in Buffalo is not you know is not going toak but we're losing Woody just just a little bit losing Woody we're going to get back to that connection but CJ Stout is Wi-Fi is taking a nap yeah exactly CJ's drown isn't catching anyone napping this season all right we're just going to go with that theme right listen everybody's got plenty of film on this guy what our opposing defense is going to try to take away from stout it's really hard because this Bobby slowick who's their play caller the offensive scheme from Kyle shanan it really stresses and stretches so much of the football field I think number one is can they minimize the middle of the field in the playaction pass game and that that's something that became such a big deal for this offense I mean look at CJ when it comes to where he ranked in the NFL when it come came to throwing in between the numbers they ate in the middle of the field and again that's a big part of the the foundation or the theme of a Kyle Shanahan offense and I think the second thing is can they on third down make somebody else other than Nico Collins hurt them that that you know Houston and CJ were remarkable on third down last year and the connection between these two guys was fantastic just look at the yards per attempt on third down you're averaging almost 15 yards and you're completing 75% of the passes to that guy so if defenses can try to muddy the middle of the field a little bit easier said than gun because of the play action game and because really with the addition of Steph you're going to be even you know more horizontally stretched and then you know on those third down situations you know Nico became the guy for CJ strout and for that that and he got paid too in in the scheme and so I think you know trying to find two ways where you might be able to slow that group down are you still going Houston number two Philly number one wide out I yeah I'm still saying Philly number one and I think Houston's remarkable I I do I by all accounts tank Dell looks back but you want to see coming off to that injury and then who is Steph really like is Steph going to be yeah he is was at the back end of last year he is come on Joe Brady Joe Brady took him out of that offense I don't I would say this no indication that he has lost his step I hope not and I'm a huge Step fan but he's got to go do it he's got to go be that vertical threat that he used to be all right you're you're Homer right now you're a homer right now Seattle's in the conversation too no no they are there's other good there's other good trios have a good Trio I'm sticking with Philly all right positive train here and go to another rookie quarterback and that would be Caleb Williams will will not play in the Bears preseason finale I don't think that's surprising to anyone but so the first time we are going to see Caleb Williams under Center will be September 8th against the Titans and he's drawing some lofty comparisons I'm not I'm not going to say it but nonetheless what do you like what you see yeah I think the big thing is he's shown a good understanding of what defense are show defenses are showing him you know one of my concerns with Caleb was you know the noted aim game back at SC they threw a ton of different looks at him and it was like confusion and maybe some Panic with the football and in the preseason games both Buffalo and Cincinnati have thrown some different looks at him that have forced him to kind of ponder okay or think about is it zone is it man is it you know two deep safeties is it three deep safeties and he hasn't been perfect but the fact that he's played from the pocket and seen some coverage rotations and maybe seen some pressures and really seem to expect and then handle it that's been the most impressive thing to me I know he's going to make incredibly athletic and splash plays he's got uni ique physical ability and his arm is spectacular but really when you get down to it can he take that and also marry it with that true understanding of defenses and timing I think he's set a good foundation for that in the preseason I like what I hear at USC by the way Caleb Williams 12 and0 with 33 touchdowns and only two interceptions when his team allowed 30 points or less meaning when he's not chasing points don't chase points hard to do 10th play of the Chiefs Drive fires it near side to Kelsey let's down Kansas City I always say but when the lights get brighter he plays better and that's the true Mark of the
