[Music] they don't call it Monkey Business for nothing primates can be quite entertaining they just have such unique behaviors even within all the different species in the African journey in the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo you'll find cabus and Allen swamp monkeys living together both are native to similar areas of Africa and could cohabitate in the wild the cus are very are boreal so that means they spend lots of lots of time in the trees and our SWAT muggies are more terrestrial like we are so down on the ground and they're actually really good swimmers so they have web fingers and toes and so they've been seen diving into water out in the wild cus are ful ofor so they eat lots and lots of leaves every day and they have a special digestive system for all of that and the swamp monkeys are more omnivore so they'll really get eat all you know things they can get their hands on there are two swamp monkeys me and d and three cabus monkeys a mom and daughter and another male bories here to hopefully have some babies with Kenna so that's something we're hopefully looking forward to call this when they're born they're completely white they look like little sheep almost and then about like 3 months is when they start to get more of that black coloration their long fluffy tails are for balance as they move among the branches they're just um ambassadors for their species really for us to like help educate the public and they still um are threatened out in the wild a lot of it is like uh habitat loss and for these guys Road collisions is a really big thing so that's a c Bridge right here so it's a lot smaller than the ones you would actually see out in Africa but there is this great organization uh cbus conservation and they will make those collar Bridges and they span across the canopies um so going back to like the road collisions those can help prevent that um since these guys are so arboreal when they're Crossing roads they're pretty slow and awkward and it's easy for them to get in the way down the zoo path you'll find another primate species the ringtailed Lemur so lemur fall in the prian category of Prim technically meanss pre monkey so they just um evolve differently they're more terrestrial than ever Lemur species so if you compare like their body to the monkeys the monkeys have really long arms for swinging but these guys have much shorter arms and longer legs for being more on the ground we spend about like 40% of the time on the ground and the rest in the trees these guys um leap around a lot so they have those really long tails for leaping and those tails for balance as well and they have those really distinctive Rings uh for to act like a flag for them so as they're moving around the jungle they can hold their tail up and the troop members can easily find them while the swamp and cabus monkeys are not endangered ringtailed lemur are and that's just due to like the pet trade and habitat loss but all primates no matter how cute they may look are not good pets a message International primate day aims to spread raising like education and awareness about primate conservation and just the primates themselves um and so the zoo here supports um other primate conservations like Pasa so that's a really big one they do great work out in Africa they help to rehabilitate primates that were part of the pet trade um and just coming here and really learning about them um and knowing you know these guys really don't make great pets is like a really big one um and just um if you see things on social media like any primates in human um environments just to not share or pass that on instead enjoy their animal Antics safely at the zoo
