big win on the road against the top 10 opponent I'm worried that we're going to be sleeping on du I know Billy is going to get the right though so I'm feeling that we're going to win but I'm a little Florida State you know like what was that like from a from a student perspective and for someone who was at Boston College yeah it was it was a tough it it was a tough game for the Eagles I have to say you know like I I really wasn't I you know what you know what I I chose for uh for the Eagles I I've chose them to lose during our prame show do you have any words for me CH well no no not during the the actual pregame but during our show last or two weeks ago I said that the Eagles were going to lose you have any do you have any words about that I got to say that uh you're a hater guess and Bill O'Brien's going to prove everyone wrong you everyone long wrong last time floor state was a really cool environment it's very hot down there much nicer up here I don't know why you'd want to live in Tallahasse honestly it's very it's very tough down there it's very hot we were walking around in suits anyone saw those pictures of us on Twitter we were sweating through the suits so things were bad but now they're you know now they're good you know we're back in Chestnut Hill back in that nice temperate climate it's not 90 freaking degrees out here it's a beautiful day for the home opener we got 330 coverage starting with Giovanni colada up in the booth with Chris vogle wow Chris vogle making his wcbc Sports debut as Boston College St and I mean we had he's been on our broadcast we CAU a football game last year though he did he did yeah but you know that's under the kind of of being a BC student you know I'm saying like yeah it was way different you know anyway again we're live here saying uh I think Louisville freshman year was probably my uh my favorite Boston College memory uh football memory because we finally won a game and we rush the field against like a terrible Louisville team but it was funny it was fun uh and now expectations are a little bit different than they were then uh we were just happy to win a game then now there's expectation there's expectations yeah plenty of expectations how do you think that the Eagles are going to manage those expectations well I mean today's got to be they got to blow him out there's no really other way to put it if they don't blow him out it's sort of it'd be so classic Boston College to play like a 2420 game today yeah that'd be very Boston College I don't think that's who we are anymore happy about that yeah I think Bill O'Brien really changed that kind of culture at BC we saw Jeff lle game as a defensive coordinator yeah good job good job what was it 36 36 points allowed by the Packers wow really thank God he got out of here yeah I know Eagles win for the first time maybe yeah that's true yeah he did help the eagles with for the first time that's a great Point Nick so I'm gonna ask you now Nick what are your keys to the game for Boston College my keys to the game that's this is It's a lob sided game like let's be honest here uh the game the key of the game is just don't turn the ball over don't do anything stupid try try don't play outside yourself okay I like those keys see we we have some some some people over here oh that's great so uh Mr Petr if you want to give your keys to the game what are your keys to the game tonight dad what are your keys as you know Nick it's very key that we score more points than they do that's a great Point that's pretty much the thing we have to do defensively uh we have to stop we have to stop score we stop the ball stop movements and then we have to get the ball and then score more points to stop them from scoring and then we have to score that's pretty much it thank you well that's why he's the best in the business great Point that's why he's the best in the business absolutely and um what are your what are your keys to the game I think my husband and son said it beautifully all right yeah that's that's awesome well said just really a poetic group of people for real all knowing family absolutely I I mean I would say my keys to the game for Boston College just you know just keep running the ball we did a great job running last week and also a nice a key point from last week's game only 21 yards on the ground for Florida State University that was quite great yeah that was cool you something you want to say what I was watching ESPN this morning and they said BC bullied FSU they did bully FSU that's true that's a headline that was one of the headlines um no it's a you're doing a great job yeah sir got to swing by our little table at the Boston College tailgate here we have some members of the GD iron Club approaching us right now the GD iron Club what what a great way with BC football I have to say uh we have Ralph Ralph colantino here do you want to say anything to the audience absolutely what are we talking about boys what are your keys to the game today what does BC have to do to keep the momentum very simple BC has to make sure that we uh follow up with the strengths of Florida State make sure that running game stays solid make sure we stay free of injuries free of mistakes uh last week we saw Duane clearly uh hampered by turnover after turnover the defense has a lot of opportunities in front of them but very simply you just got to play nice clean football out uh when we were at Florida State we only moved out of four different offensive packages you know far lower than what you'd expect out of a BC Pro style offense trying to not show as much of the Playbook as we can but uh very simply put nice and easy don't make mistakes don't turn the ball over and we should be just fine I would say the packages thing is more of a if it isn't broke don't fix it you know what I mean I mean you could run that reel route seven times and it works every time I'm not I'd keep running it you know what I mean well when you're coming up against Florida State and Florida State's got one of the best defensive back cores uh set up uh those receivers are moving quite a bit trying to draw weakness and obviously castalanos has improved somewhat significantly in his ability to read and dissect those defenses uh but as he's coming through we've seen a lot of improvement uh especially in practices we've seen everyone on team especially with this whole new staff come through with their toughness with their strength with especially their durability Under Fire so we're we have a lot of Hope with this exciting it's an exciting exciting time to be a Boston College Eagle fan what what's different about this year than last season in your opinion you know Bill O'Brien that's the big one but you know what has Bill O'Brien changed what has the grid iron Club noticed about what's different so I've been to just about every practice closed events open events everything that's there um and the biggest thing is that this is a professional outfit uh we've seen past few years Boston College you know not to not to rag on any previous administration or anything that's come forward um but we've clearly seen a team that has started to take things more seriously um just on the eagle walk as they were coming through here uh several of the parents several grid iron club members all made the same comment wow all of them are it's just business and that's all it is to them now um whereas you know in practices long gone you would see guys laughing and joking and moving didn't happen when we were up at Florida State guys weren't pay attention to what was going on they weren't tur to the crowd they weren't joking they weren't laughing this is a professional outfit and uh coach Bill O'Brien as he's done elsewhere especially when it came in saved Penn State really has turned around this team that's a lot of great points made there I you know you you make uh honestly I totally for forgot my question so I'm gonna I'm gonna go to what's your score prediction for this game obviously BC you know has a really good chance of winning what's what what do you think the score is going to be do not we are going to cover this 35 point spread not does feel like a lot it does not because we're not able to I think if Bill O'Brien was running this team as hard as he could we would get up on them 50 but realistically Bill O'Brien's a man of class Boston College classy school um and if we get up over them a few touchdowns you're GNA see some of the Young Guns kind G come in I would expect to see quite a bit of Turbo Richards in the second half about to ask about that i' Turbo Ave yard and it's really aent to who you defensive line what I what I was so impressed with or so maybe he be shocked by when out State game was down the stretch turbo was getting touches and that big uh you know one of the the final drive I think they had uh yeah that final drive he was I think the first back to get a touch and I was really impressed by that I mean uh through freshman coming in and getting touches like that late in the game a lot of that you can expect May due to a lot of cramping especially Runnings Ming that Florida heat temperature is about 10 degrees higher with about 15% higher humidity than you were expecting which obviously is going to impact especially the running backs especially the defensive line we were concerned about aala for a little bit we saw himal he turned out to be completely fine just obviously cramping in I love what I've seen from that so I heard that Bill O'Brien actually made kind drill where or brought somebody in where they are practicing for what happens when a guy cramps up like that what what have you notied about that so the new strength and conditioning team has come through obviously the strength and conditioning coach uh is absolutely unbelievable but the entire strength and conditioning team is unbelievable um and I have seen that personally where Bill O'Brien will quite literally point to somebody in practice and say hey he's hurt what is the medical team's response hey he's just cramping what is it poking over watching their response seeing they're going um the nutrition team the strength and conditioning team have all been absolutely fabulous and I really can't say enough about so another question is what exactly is the Boston College grid iron Club so the grid iron Club is the official fan club of Boston College football uh we have members that stretch in football alumni Back 40 or 50 years uh we run the largest tailgate on campus uh you just can't see it from where we are here in front of the beautiful Cony Forum but uh the million dooll tailgate right in front of Gat is absolutely incredible uh we have a number of events that are open to grid iron Club specific members which really help us moving forward we got a wild seed here I think that the band is prepping to set up but uh the the outlet behind us is just dead it's kind of interesting uh you know what things are coming back you expect to see things uh going off it's why a lot of teams like you know big SEC teams even will play a school like Duane their home opener um schools in the FCS schools that are really looking to break out to that next level so that we can iron out the ks obviously you'll see that both on the field and off um more about the grid iron Club um helping support BC football uh we donate a significant amount of money to basically anything the team needs in the last few years uh We've really helped trying to rebuild the uh redevelopments of the locker room when it comes to strength and conditioning now they've got hot tubs cold tubs salt tubs anything you want you name it you look back there and you think you're walking into an NFL locker room it's unbelievable that's awesome uh that's great toar here Mr colantino um how how do you join the grid iron Club if if you want to join very simple bcgd iron.com the end of our show is when they is when they BL with mus but we'll see what goes on yeah we'll see anyway um what is your favorite thing to do at a at a tailgate Nick what is my favorite thing to do with a tailgate that's a really question Jacob uh I don't think I can stay on air honestly Jacob I'm in fact 20 years old so oh okay all right to limit what I can say but just enjoy just a good time with friends and family getting ready watch football I see all right well that you know that's that's a good answer I would say my favorite part about the tailgate is going up to the the fifth floor of alumni stadium and looking out as to you know how many people are out there I love seeing all the tents from afar from a bird's eye view it's really really awesome to see um and you know BC I think that they can really grow into New England's college football program which is where we're g what we're going to talk about next year Nick what does it mean to be Boston or for Boston College to be New England's college football program Bill O'Brien has a big focus on on Recruitment and also another thing is engagement from the fans that's that's a huge thing you know you have to have fans if you're going to be ex regions college football team you know what I'm saying it's it's fairly simple it comes down to winning it comes down to proving that you can win time and time again uh Boston is city of Champions and New England is a area of Champions I guess um so you need to win and they win that Florida State you know and especially you know the Patriots are going to be bad this year yeah you're looking for football in the Northeast the eyes are going to be on Boston College so you know you don't have to be Missouri but if you beat Missouri then you're in a big big conversation man yeah I mean you see that screenshot from back in 2007 where Boston College was um ranked number number three in the whole country after USF the University of South Florida and another random school I can't remember which one yeah well Nick's gonna try to find that out you know just I'll just talk a little bit about the scene here in front of Boston colleges KY Forum you know uh this everything that we do this season is going to be for a greater cause and that greater cause has to be the memory of Johnny and Maddie gdo Johnny and Matty GD really they you know they shaped what sports at BC is here and that is such a tragic event what happened a few a few days ago and BC uh community over here as we can see next to uh Ki they oh thank you they um built a little bit of a a memorial for for Johnny and Maddie here they they left some sticks out some flowers it's a very touching uh occasion um or a touching site to see you know necessary sight to see here at Boston College when those two men really did so much for the school no I was going up uh to to get my Super Fan shirt yesterday which I'm wearing very proudly right now and so was so are a lot of people actually I I'm very impressed by the amount of people in the superan shirts but I mean they have the memorial nice and set up a lot of purple Gator raids over there which I guess was um was Johnny's favorite and it's very it's very cool the way the community came around them and and and it felt special uh last Monday it felt like more than a regular win it felt you could feel you could feel their presence down yeah yeah given the circumstances and given how much of an underdog Boston College was for that game it's like some kind of higher power was smiling down on the team but you know game plan's a big part of that as well obviously as we look out onto the tailgate here people are beginning to flood down the million dooll stairs you're listening to wzbc Newton right now and yeah we're we're just you might as well talk about this I mean I would take it would take a lot it would take uh I mean you'd have to beat Missouri you'd have to you'd have to win the ACC it's it comes down to that uh I mean but the as is really weak right now SMU lost to BYU uh last night um you know Duke looked bad against Northwestern a lot of like ACC for as much as we ACC to be good is not good this year the ACC is not good Honestly though just stumble into that ACC Championship Game it really does feel like that yes but in order to do that you're going to have to take care of opponents like the one that they face today and du and not only do they have to take care of them they really have to take care of them I mean we saw the last time BC was favored by this much I think they won what 76 to zero I'm if I'm not mistaken is that true I think it is I saw a few posts on H Twitter about this and I can't confirm it but 76 Z would be would be a pretty good game I'm not going to lie yeah yeah how long do how long do you think the students are going to stay at this game do you think that the fans are going to stay or think they're going to leave I think if they I mean if they blow him out there's a really good chance the fans leave um but it will be it'll be a a Rowdy first quarter for sure and I I mean listen it's the good thing it's not super hot out there's been there's been home openers that have been just killer think of one the Ruckers game that was a real killer oh my God that was the worst it was like 80° I was if you're a pasty guy like to a Cris and then we lost and that was a terrible terrible game so and it was like a fourth quarter comeback as well yeah winning the entire time it's that that was that's could be the most heartbreaking loss I've seen in at Boston College but there's many great losses I've seen at Boston College yeah yeah I mean that's like one really oh hey Here Comes giovan colada the voice of Boston College football over here as we uh we talk about our yeah uh I don't know here you can use that mic right there just make sure your uh your cord is is all the way there I got Jacob congratulations on all your hard work putting this together thank four working mics look at that so good job J yeah yeah GI we we were talking earlier about our keys to the game for Boston College what would your keys to the game be against an opponent like due right and Duane is in an opponent that you circle on the calender somebody that you're going to run into a lot of trouble with I say that now judging off of this team in their performance on Monday against Florida but I think the key for BC today would be to try something you wouldn't normally try against a weaker oppon in the Duke Dukes I'd like to see some passes that stretch the field maybe get somebody like Reed Harris involved he obviously had a clutch game with his fumble recovery on Monday but he's been turning heads and camping in the subsequent practices after the win I would be very surprised if we saw Thomas castalanos for more than three quarters today so things are bad if we see him who who's the backup quarterback that we're gonna see job so Grayson James transfer from fu is still hurt jacobe Robinson be the shoe in I'm excited to get to see him today he's definitely worked hard all Camp long last year he sat behind Tommy and EMT Morehead really observed what they do and as internalized that he's a very similar player as we saw I mean obviously got a little more height on him but he runs around like Tommy does he's got a cannon of an arm struggles with accuracy at times but this would be some good liveaction Reps for jacobe to really start developing into Tommy's eventual replacement oh what about what about that kid Shaker Shaker's not com until next year Shaker's out in Oklahoma right now High School Shaker rising of course one of the big Bill O'Brien polls but I'm excited to see him up here that was a big get like you remember being at Spring ball and he was there and there was a lot of Buzz around him and right fully so BCS at landed a quarterback from down south in a long time so I'd be excited to see him but who knows we'll see yeah absolutely and uh so Gio what what do you like most about being the the play-by-play the voice of the Boston College Eagles football team well I think the my favorite part is getting to take trips like we did last week Nick you could speak to the surrounding area of Tallahassee but I think the cool thing about going to that game was being there for the environment of and then bringing home a win obviously the coolest part of it all so being the playby play voice is fun it's you know to get to cover a team like this in an environment like this it's definitely want a dream a dream come true for me so super happy about that yeah that definitely me as as well as myself it's also a dream come true for me to do do hockey like it's so much fun this club just gives you so many awesome lot of onions in the checkers a lot of onions I see what you think what do you think of the checkers you get a chees I wouldn't go back I wouldn't go back to the checkers but I'll say one thing that did job it got the job done and it was maybe maybe it's the food maybe that's why FSU was so bad last week let me tell you about the Buffalo Wild Wings yeah what what's up I the the honey barbecue buffalo wild are terrific and I can't recommend one okay all right is not that great but the Buffalo Wild Wing was terrific any I agree I agree the Buffalo Wild Wings was a terrific atmosphere for what we were going there to do so for for that purpose I thought it was pretty cool so right now we're joined by Boston College football fans himself I think I think your last name is it's ma Hutchinson is that it is that right uh happy to be here yeah absolutely yeah of course welcome this is a great occas we don't have seats we don't have a tent we don't have a camera but we have mic we have camera that's what I was thinking that's where we would think right understand there's a lot of sure tail back yeah how we feeling feel I mean this is great for this time I mean what is two hours before game time just a little bit earlier and I think we could still see it fill in a little bit but to see all the gold Mac it's certainly a cool I got a question for you having gone to a lot of practices you know we we were there the other week before Florida State and you look at somebody like Tran Ward who was really t this Robo shows secondhand man Swiss army knife to the lightning to is thunder Almost Do you think that with a game like this on the line against the weaker opponent in Duan that Ward can really explode for a big game or will they kind of reel him back I think he's going to be explosive no matter what under this new offensive line and how well they performed last week against Florida State I mean he's so versatile we we kind of knew that going in but we didn't expect it to be that explosive against Florida State and him being able to catch the ball on the back field being to run it right through the line I think you're going to be able to see that especially against Duane today um but I do you know we're all hoping we're all hoping that they can get some rest the later half of the game and that would be the ideal thing I was just saying that I'd be surprised or and a little concerned if we saw Tommy pass the third quarter today but we we'll see how everything goes with that can I ask um because I'm obviously I'm less BC experienced when was the last time BC football had so much hype around guys we've had great right hold on one sec we got we got a mic issue here uh here if you want to take my mic back on air here um I just say as far as the hype goes I mean we've had great games right we've had great games against ad with AIO with halfy but I mean honestly to this level I mean you got to go back all the way to mats I mean back then with the program there were you know the stands were filled at alumni you have fans coming out you had you know Boston you know Sports media talking about Boston College and that's what we have right now keep building on the momentum I mean Bill O'Brien is a Boston guy and he understands you know what it takes to get people on the stands and to get the university excited and that's winning and he's completely focused and SC his whole team and also the program the administration to be focused on winning and giving these fans an incredible experience I think I'm excited today to see the atmosphere right out of the gate in the first quarter these these guys deserve it I mean the football team deserves that kind of love right out of the gate doesn't matter could be michig state or whatever it is you know Bill lobed hard this week practice for fans to come out what are you what are you anticipating that atmosphere looks like on the first snap I mean I think it's just gonna be no matter what just them out of the tunnel for the first time you know his first right uh for the first time home opener first home opener for Bill oen it's going to be huge but I really want to see I mean let's see the gold let's see the gold out in the student section full out and then let's try to get I mean I know there's a lot of uh BC alumni that are coming back I mean you know for people that have been longtime fans or graduated a long time ago you know they were pretty absent the last you know couple coaches because you know there wasn't as high of a winning team here but now I think a lot of them are coming back they're coming back to the games they're wearing their old Super Fan shirt it's great to see all around campus and so it's just that extra excitement you even bring back alumni you're bring back you know sports fans from all over you know Bost in the region uh in New England I mean so it's just super exciting I'm just excited to see the fans you know the stands filled and uh to see a bunch of gold out there we were talking about earlier about you know DC really has a chance you know how bad the Patriots look to this year to be New England's football team this year I mean what is that s subject for a few Len but all right what do you think thats now I mean I think I really unfortunately I'm a p fan as well I think there will be a void there a football void and I think Boston College football will be able to kill that void and you know with anything whether it's the Red Sox Celtics the Bruins if you win they will come and that's the same thing no matter what team it is in Boston right so this Boston College football team with Bill Bryant's got an incredible opportunity and that's what we've been all about you know especially um you know with BC football fans it's just been about trying to that to even non alumni fans in the region specifically sports fans to get them to come aboard and really you know help support this team because this program is looking really good and it's going in the right direction and everyone that I've talked to from the coaches to the players seem completely focused on making this a beautiful thing yeah yeah and see I have one question here so speaking of BC football fans and speaking of non-alumni fans how important are those fans for the growth of game in New England I think it's huge important so I I I didn't graduate from BC my father graduated from Boston College and we are season tick holders for 20 years so I've been a sports fan didn't go to the school and that's real that's a real thing I mean back in the Matty Ice days I mean you know there was fans from all over this region thatting for Boston College so that's so very Possible's from that erao back for the era and then for the Matt Ryan era is very possible so he knows that's possible theol starting to buy in um and it's incredible to see because I think engaging with those fans marketing to those fans there's such a it's a massive Sports Market in Boston it's one of it's the greatest sports city I think city of Champions here so it's something to take advantage of two New Yorkers on we can't help but buy the hype as well three New Yorkers on excuse me Jacob okay I the Jacob we have a lot of new in WBC Sports yesterday we had like our wcbc barbecue for like the new sign up for the club and we realized like are we all New York fans up here pretty much one of the one of the kids one of the kids came can I like write about like the cix or the Bruins and we're like yeah you can I mean we don't have anyone doing it right now so and that's and for you to do what you've done with BC football fans having not gone to the school I think it's incredible to see I mean right it's a blueprint with this and that's what's created this social media is obviously hug reles to a p tailgate like we're beginning to see here today Department's been able to do they understand that and and content like you're saying content super important just like the things that you you guys are doing at w zpc um it's important for to engage with fans to get them to come along and you know yes energize the the BC alumni and students but also energize this it's like okay you belong everyone knows away BC football is legit when you have Bill o'ri running and running it like a professional oper with alls of NFL bur yeah Burge you bring him in to be sort wide open it's their to get it's crazy to say that in O's first he can Gob thing and then that sets the up for all these o'ri classes already probably to be better than half classes now you get that leg up you're not just going to get the local talent that's to bring thatal Talent too I mean I think a big thing that people were sleeping on for this team heading into this year was the fact that they had 15 St n never get that typ of continuity so having that coming into the on top of the theyes yeah that's a great Point why do you think that what do you think it's gonna for BC to get ranked could it be after this week if Clemson loses or something think if they get ranked the it's they it's and think you at top yeah definitely all right yeah I mean I was shocked I was shocked to see and I know Georgia Tech won has won a game after they be state but we beat them better and not a neutral s and then Georgia Tech had a big problem with their with their week one home opponent last week
