Auburn scores 70 points 73 that was incredible you are locked on Auburn your daily podcast on the Auburn Tigers part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day yes welcome on into lock on your daily Auburn Tigers podcast I'm your host Zach blackerby and thank you so much for making lock on Auburn your first listen every single day the Tigers get it done they got it done early they got it done often they went 73 to3 against Alabama A&M the offense the offense was everything all of us dreamed of you got cam Coleman scoring you got Harry Thompson scoring you got Malcolm Simmons scoring in multiple ways Payton Thorne looked crisp jarquez Hunter busted a long drive there kls looks like he's been an Auburn Tiger for years in Catching passes from pton Thorne for years with his two scores and they did it without needing the run to set up anything what happened in Jordan hair Stadium tonight was it incredible it was incredible oh but Zack it's just Alabama A&M I don't care I don't care everything that we saw about the offense it looked more crisp than it has at Auburn in a decade it looked faster than anything Auburn has had in a decade and it looked better than anything that Auburn has had in a decade when Gus Maan came here in 2013 we saw this new offense that was so fun and it okay this is what the modern version of a college football offense looks like and then it didn't evolve for a long time and then we were behind the eightball recruiting now all of a sudden Hugh frees gets Auburn's feet set and it's like hey we got these freshmen we got this really really toal of 2024 class and we didn't know how quick it would take to really get them in there we all hoped we all hoped that we would see a cam Coleman and a Perry Thompson and a Malcolm Simmons all of these guys really come together we hoped it would happen quickly and yes it was Alabama A&M but boy do those guys look like SEC players those guys look so good and they look so fast and they look so confident and they look so competent and boy just for a second like I think we all saw it I think we all saw it what was was it 28 nothing at the end of the first quarter and we all ask ourselves the question like this is like how good can this team be it feels like it could be pretty daggum good feels like it could be pretty dadgum good folks Payton Thorne looks so comfortable and after that second touchdown was the second one to Coleman I know the first one was the kls I think the second one was the Coleman as far as passing touchdowns I know jarquez was the first tutty but man like you just kind of had this Collective breath of okay this whole thing that we said all offseason about Payton Thorne where we were kind of saying Okay can he get back to his first solid year as a starter when he was at Michigan State when he had this NFL Talent all around him both with Kenneth Walker next to him as well as all of these pass catchers like we could do that right like we we gave him the pieces can he get back to that form the answer to that is yes the answer to that is absolutely yes because look Alabama A&M is a lesser opponent I mean we scored 73 points they scored three could have scored more they had a field goal they have a specific kicking coach but they missed two field goals which is a wild thing we can talk about that later but to me to me all of this is about Payton Thorne which Jake crane came on our show on Thursday was the second show we dropped on Thursday we said hey this is all about pton Thorne and boy was it 13 of 21 passing for 322 yards through the air four touchdowns this next one's important four touchdowns zero interceptions and rushing the ball four carries 49 yards and he scored on the ground too I mean we're talking about a Payton Thorne that had over 350 yards of offense and scored five touchdowns and it wasn't this kind of thing where like Auburn just bullied A&M it was like this isn't we're not playing the same Sport AS Alabama A&M and to me that's the difference I mean Auburn has whooped up on Alabama blah blah blah blah blah Alabama A&M twice in the last 12 years that 2012 team that stunk and then obviously in 2016 which was a you know that the team did end up in a sugar ball that year but you know we all know how we feel about that but they did it by running the football I think Auburn ran the ball for like 400 yards in both of those games that's not what happened here that's not what happened here and the quarterbacks when they threw it to the receivers they gave them a chance to win and there were instances where they didn't win and they they didn't make catches that they probably should raldo had two that he should have caught and one of them should have been for a touchdown and I'm okay being hard on revaldo Fairweather because he's an upper classman and we've seen him do it and he was Auburn's leading receiver a year ago we kind of expect that of him like raldo had an off game um yeah according to this he yeah he had two Targets um to me like we really got a nitpick as far as like where Auburn needed to be better on offense I understand that but to me these receivers created their own space I mean the cam Coleman example is just as pure and as as perfect it can possibly get and like the the way the camera was you couldn't really tell because they like zoomed in or zoomed out too late into the play until you saw it a lot better when they showed the replay again and again and again which I hope we never get tired of seeing that play but I mean just that stop and go I mean he cooked that dude he cooked that dude and yes he plays corner for Alabama A&M and clearly Alabama A&M's DBS were not ready for what happened at Jord Stadium tonight whatever but he's going to do that again that that wasn't just something where like it was a busted coverage he beat that dude and like you can only if you bite on a route you bite on a route like that will happen again in SEC play it may happen against cow on Saturday who knows yeah I mean uh Harlem saying in the live chat cam made that cornerback stand straight up yeah yeah and that's gonna happen again like that wasn't some poor coaching scheme where the corner didn't know what he was supposed to do and he just let Cam run by like these guys earned those routes even um even Hanks long pass to to Malcolm Simmons where Malcolm Simmons had all of that space like the scheme and the decision making on the field allowed that to happen because Hank read the RPO correctly so once again it wasn't like Alabama A&M just like messed up and Auburn took advantage they ran a play and they went to the correct guy you could say the thing with Perry Thompson like the dude was covered Perry's just better than that guy same with kls the first touchdown to kls like Peyton hit him in stride I mean the guy it's not like it was awful coverage now is an SEC Defender going to be a little bit better than that sure 100% but the the second one to kls that was scheme that was scheme and a great ball by Payton and great awareness and seeing where everybody was on the field and just having having the wherewithal like actually creating space guys were wide open super fun super super fun and the crazy thing in all of this is Auburn like sure they they had uh six total rushers for 177 yards but like jqu Hunter jqu Hunter ran the ball four times for 53 yards and it's like half of that was uh yeah he had a 34 yard which I assume was a touchdown and then Payton ran it for four times for 49 yards Jeremiah Cobb got some some touches late when uh when he was there next to Hank I mean just an incredible an incredible performance all around there's just nothing to dislike about how everything went one of the things I said I wanted throughout the week was I wanted five uh five players to have double digit catches it's kind of funny because like that almost didn't happen because the they didn't run that many plays because these the the scoring drives were so short but Malcolm had three catches for 91 kls had three for 80 Perry had two for 82 of course that 70- yard touchdown cam had two for 62 Caleb Burton had two for 49 and then Bryce Kane had two for 33 and man I hate I mean I know he hates it more than all of us that fumble we were all smelling 80 right like we all felt like that 80 was totally coming I think h fre would have let him do it if they would have kept you know completing passes which is which is awesome which is awesome and also if like they would have ran the full game like that game was 10 minutes shorter of Regulation which did not know that was a rule let me know in the live chat if you thought that was going to happen um but that's just insane it's just insane who was the offensive player of the game blood the live chat genuinely curious on who you guys think here I know Malcolm Simmons is the flashiest Sam Jackson had the best catch I would say from Hank I mean the body control when he went up for that deep ball was insane it's hard for me not to say Payton though just because of the storylines all off season and even this past week where it's like it's about Payton I mean this is his Redemption this is his Redemption I mean for um for the folks who watched it on ESPN plus which is what I did I watched it at home the um the camera zoomed in on him after the first his first touchdown pass which I guess was the kls if I'm remembering that correctly y'all please correct me if I'm wrong on that I think I'm right but the camera zoomed on just real quick and he was talking to one of the coaches and he was smiling so big and it's like you know like you know this is personal for him at this point because I mean he has just said everything everything in the world that could be said about a quarterback has been said um I'm just so happy for him like I'm genuinely just happy for Payton Thorne what a cool moment for him what a cool moment for him and obviously Cal is the next thing you know can can they can they beat Cal and can they get ready for Cal I think so because I don't think they put that much on tape so we'll see we'll see all right let's jump into the defensive side of the ball keep flooding it a lot of you guys are saying Payton but I want to hear Arguments for other players but all that's coming up right here on this special LIVE edition LIVE edition of lockon Auburn recapping Auburn's I can't I it just feels weird saying it it looks weird on the box score 703 to3 against Alabama A&M Today's Show is brought to you by uh by Charlie 5's favorite product in the world and that is Five Hour Energy I had one earlier in honor of Charlie 5 I took a picture and put it on Twitter go to 5 Hour energy.com right now they've got all sorts of today you can use my code lock on CFB you get 20% off your order that's it 5our energy.com check it out today so almost everybody is saying Payton uh and if not pton kls is what Sheldon says and I agree I'm okay with that I mean the guy scores two touchdowns and this is a dude kls is a guy that like his former team really painted a lot of negative stuff about him and you know we saw it you know all these kids see all this crap that's said about them I think Keandre Lambert Smith I mean I think those two Tes were a little personal for him too I mean what a great situation for Auburn and kls where both sides clearly benefit from this uh you know this one-year rental which is kind of what these grad transfer you know transfer portal editions are to me to me I I think K if it's not Payton if you go non-quarterback you have to go you have to go with kls I'm there with you I'm there with you that's what a lot of people are saying um I want to go back to something about the quarterback because like the completion percentage isn't perfect right like 13 of 21 but something I loved about pton and then Hank did this too and this is what stood out to me even like I was a senior in high school when we watched Cam Newton and I'm not saying these guys are Cam Newton but something that stood out to me early when watching cam is when he threw the ball he gave his receivers an opportunity to win and that's what we saw Payton do tonight I mean there were several throws where it's like not the easiest catch in the world but like if you're a receiver and you're as good as you guys say you are and as special of a room as you guys think you are like some of those you should catch and like I mentioned the on to raldo like raldo like I'm sure if we asked him directly he would say yes I should have caught those Robert Lewis had one in the end zone where it's like sure the timing seemed a little bit off but it's like I bet if they run that play five times he scores two or three of them on average right and to me like I don't know if we saw Payton do that a year ago and that's the kind of thing that I'm talking about like yes it's Alabama A&M but tonight was about Auburn it's always been about Auburn when we talked about this game is Can Auburn be a better version of itself than it was a year ago and we all agree that the answer to that is yes because we still think that Auburn could run the ball and they didn't have to I mean that's that's kind of powerful right like especially when you know the rest of the SEC like they're dealing with injuries in the running back room and Auburn's running back room they had jarquez had four touches Jeremiah Cobb had three Justin Jones had one Sam Jackson had three deari had three so as far as like the starting Trio of backs deari had three jarquez had four Jeremiah had the Auburn's top three running backs touched the ball 10 times you just talk about like longevity of the Season y'all know how valuable that is and we just lit it up we scored 73 points tonight just I just can't get over it I just can't get over it but yeah to me it's some of those things like that where like pton putting the ball in the air where the receiver can catch it and there's a chance that he did this last year we just didn't get to see it enough because the receivers aren't as good weren't as good last year as they were um a year ago my background just changed um there we go my background just changed Kyle if you cannot touch that that'd be awesome so to to me I think I think that's a huge huge part of this Kyle if you're ready to hop in give me a thumbs up and I'll I'll add you um you're ready to go sweet we're gonna bring uh we're gonna bring the Charlie 5 in to the show what a freaking day yeah man I almost blacked out it was to so much scoring I mean it's just absolutely insane Kyle Rush Auburn mess board Legend Charlie 5 hanging out with us now so you're in the Box you're in the box for for most of the game the relevant snaps of the game I mean yes it's Alabama A&M but like the speed of the game was tremendous when guys got the ball in their hands it just looked different than a year ago for sure man you had separation from wide receivers you had pton being able to throw it uh on the money uh on deep ball throwing a really good deep ball being accurate I was listening to you just a second ago I can only remember one ball that was bad that he could that the player the I think it was the one you're talking about the play In The End Zone to Robert Lewis that was like the only little behind that I can imag that I can think of that the guy just couldn't did wasn't able to get hands on uh it was uh it was everything you needed to see you saw I mean we Che they checked all the boxes can we talk about Hank just for a second I told you I KNE my guy I knew deep I knew Hank was going to go deep man he jumped him off sides he got him to jump off sides and he was going vertical there was no doubt about it there that was going to happen I can't wait to talk to him I think we're recording tomorrow I can't wait to be like I mean so like what was your confidence in Sam when you threw it to him like just just be real with me what were you thinking during the because I mean that that his catch was incredible that was an incredible moment no I mean there we knew he was going to go if he got the chance he was going to go deep if he got a got to get in and uh he had the great great read I thought on on the little um RPO play that he threw to Malcolm and then Malcolm obviously does what Malcolm does and turns a a easy first down into a touchdown uh and then then I knew he was I knew he was I just knew he was gonna take a shot and he and he did and it was great he looks good man he looked even the first play the first little throw I mean he threw what three p how many passats he throw five total the the first one was on yeah right in the numbers and he dropped it uh yeah he he's I'm starting to warm up to the fact that Hank is gonna be the guy moving forward they gave him a lot of time they gave him a lot of time so we'll see would have had more if we had have like actually played a full game but that's fine I get it so there there's a few things as far as targets and participation that I do think was pretty telling I mean it looks like Malcolm Malcolm Simmons beat out Robert Lewis for slot receiver yeah totally I mean it seems like that's what's happened here I mean you can't say anything I mean he we was the first one on the field he he went out there before Robert Lewis did I was kind of shocked at that to be honest I mean they were intentional they gave him the first play the first the first pass yeah right but that motion across the formation which is what they did at the scrimmage right they got him involved and it's just he's so much faster than he looks like he's gonna be just because of that frame and that and that speed and something about the way he runs something about the way he runs it doesn't look like it's fast but he's just gliding he's just he's walking away from people it's crazy yeah I just I don't know then like you just look around the conference and it's like vard is a joke yeah A&M's really struggling they don't appear to have an offense with the little bit I've been able to see of that game Oklahoma o didn't look as good as the score indicated Friday night it's like man all these toss up games dude like I wouldn't want to play us right now no no I they got confidence and uh you didn't believe that they were going to throw it you were you were a that you were anti Q was going to light the scoreboard up and I I just felt like that was something that had to happen and the first three plays of the game were passes uh and then you know just kept going vertical after vertical shot after vertical shot 40 second on like on average playing playing uh drives it was it was my goodness it was good stuff it was fun that's that's what you have to that's the kind of game you have to have against that kind of opponent like it needs to be 70 to3 73 to three that's what it needs to be that's my that's my predicting score from now on when we play schools like this you gotta you gotta blow up the scoreboard yeah I mean it just looked so good I can't get over it I can't get over how good it looked um defensively Jaylen McLoud is every bit as an impact as we thought he would be if not more on my end I he impressed me doing stuff off ball as well oh man they were doing some things him and Crawford in general they were lining them up almost it looked like they were lined up at like middle linebacker like lined up where a little middle linebacker would would would line up but they were spying so they were using those two guys to spy and Jaylen McLoud so so dad gum fast like if you if if if he's the spy and the quarterback makes one little step to the outside then they have the green light to go get him I mean it was g game over like he's on you you better do something quick because you're about to get exploded and he was just I mean his tackle ratio it was like all solo tackles which I love that it was like a perfect ratio of solo tackles to assisted tackles he's a factor he's a he's a weapon on defense yeah yeah that's incredible uh all right we're going to keep going here for a little bit longer but uh Kyle tell folks what you've got going on at the barn um tonight yeah we're GNA go live shortly after this uh we got some you know we're gonna do same thing go live talk about the game uh get in the chat uh and have some fun so after after Zach jumps out y'all jump over uh we're gonna take over the airwaves tonight yeah yeah I'll go to bed but Kyle's gonna stay up late because he took that great Five Hour Energy so he's got a he's got got a lot left in him I took one too yeah I took one too I put the link to where Kyle's going to be live at after we're done in the live chat and I'll drop it again um towards the end so Kyle let you go get ready for that but thanks for hopping by for for a few minutes absolutely so um to me I I do want to talk about some more defensive guys at linebacker Dory myusi surprised me because we saw him in that first defensive series and like he was a player like he was a big big part of what they did both in stopping the run as well as in pass coverage and to to me I think that's um I think that's pretty important I think that's pretty notable um in fact like I didn't really notice Eugene Sante which I think is a good thing because we know Eugene Asante is going to be a good player so like not worried about that at all but I do think uh I do think that was a pleasant surprise seeing as much during my UC um as we did did A&M lose did Texas A&M lose Austin I see you saying that in live chat it's fascinating I picked them to win that's fascinating I want to go back and watch that game because that's going to be very very important especially if I if it was because of Connor Wegman so having a quarterback not throw or be responsible for five touchdowns in a game and a season opener not us can you imagine can you imagine not having your quarter back score five touchdowns and like a half of action because I can't I certain not I certainly can't um yeah so they did lose okay fascinating um other things Kay and Lee is as good as I talk about him being that is a fact like that is very very true he was not called like that the defensive pass interference he was called for that's crap that should not have happened that was great coverage in fact he was he was the only one playing for the ball the receiver didn't even like make a play on the ball I thought that was a joke Plus that was a joke I thought Kan Lee was incredible tonight I love the Reps that Jaylen Crawford got at corner at times he did look like a freshman and then other times it's like yes that guy is naturally gifted can't wait to see him get more reps um let's see let's see Malik blockton okay hold on hold on Malik blockton the first kind of like I'm him moment for him was in a goal line situation and they went to the Freshman they went to the freshman in the middle of the field and boy he lived up to it um to me he was the interior defensive llyan I noticed the most are y'all with me on that I noticed him I noticed TR Carter because like he got flagged for something but like to me I think I think Malik blockton was the guy that I noticed the most on the interior and I kind of kept waiting for uh Jason or Philip bleedy to to make a play and it just never really happened so like Malik blockton to me I thought was really really impressive um Robert Woodyard I thought had a good game but like his stuff happened after all the scoring happened so I kind of Wonder like how the staff sees him kind of think he's that next platoon in um and then also like I'm surprised we didn't see Demarcus rck more we didn't see Demarcus Ric till like that last group in I believe could be a chance I missed him but um the announcers which the announcers were wrong a lot but they did um they did point out that reik was coming in at the end there Ric was coming in at the end there so still I mean just to me to me this this group is so good like this young group this young core that's going to be like the the base of Auburn's roster for the next three years it's so special the special group they seem to all like each other hopefully you know in today's age of the transfer portal you know that's that's probably a super super good thing so um to me to me like there are things to nitpick and say like this has to get better over the course of the season and you know we'll definitely do that that's not what the that's not what the point of tonight is tonight is the the point is to Bo and we will do that keldrick Faulk early I mean just looked like the best player on the field and then it seems like they kind of backed off of using over the course of the evening which makes total sense no reason to play keldrick when you don't have to but I thought I thought keldrick at times tonight looked like the best player on the field which is great it's exactly what Auburn needs him um to be so questions comments drop them in the live chat we'll play this game for a few minutes and then um then I'll send y'all to uh to to go watch Charlie 5 Kyle on on the barn it's like a 180 from what we had with gut no question and UCF did that when they whooped up on somebody they ran the ball a ton and it's like what does that do I thought we were going to run the ball a ton because it's the easier thing to do you don't show as much but that was not the objective and Hugh freze came out and threw it a ton I mean I said like how much fan service are we gonna get and we got it I mean three of the the freeze four scored touchdowns as well as kls which appears to be you know the op the guy's going to be consistently opposite of Cam Coleman I mean we got some fan service tonight I mean it's exactly what the fans and attendance wanted to see so that's that's gonna be awesome that's gonna be awesome Chris asks Zach how many wins will we have this year are you ready to say 10 no I was at eight and four I was at eight and four and I'm gonna stay I'm gonna stay at eight and four but I'm really close to nine and three now because I I got I gotta re I gotta watch the Texas A&M game but that's that game so far at the end of the year like how relevant is what happened today at the end of the year I'm still at eight and four but I'm close I'm close Tyler ask what did I think of Kane we didn't see a lot of them um he's got burst that fumble was tough and you know I I bet he doesn't do that again I bet he's going to take that pretty hard it's okay that's okay because I do think Q would have let him score 80 which would have been awesome which would have been awesome all right for folks look there's gonna be a lot of folks like Robert out there Robert says we need to pump the brakes this is Alabama A&M Robert obviously it is Alabama A&M and they're not a good team they're not a good team but it's okay to be excited there's going to be a lot of Bama fans out there lot of Auburn fans like Robert that say Hey this doesn't matter because it's Alabama A&M and do you to them you look them in the eye and say hey you're missing the point here because it's not about Alabama A&M this is about Auburn and would this Auburn team have done this to Alabama A&M a year ago no no they wouldn't and you say look this was about getting the Freshman involved this is about getting Payton Thorn going this is about showing the proof of concept of this offense to the recruits that are in the stands the recruits watching and then obviously to the Auburn fan base and to put some stuff on tape sure Alabama A&M isn't good that's fine that's okay that doesn't mean that this doesn't mean anything you're telling me somebody Auburn had somebody like Malcolm Simmons on their roster last year that was a true freshman that had the level of burst that he showed in his receptions tonight no way you're telling me somebody would have run that stop and go as good as cam Coleman a year ago no you're telling me somebody could take a slant 80 yards like Perry Thompson did somebody on last year's roster could do that no the two receiving touchdowns no Auburn's receivers Henry Patton tweeted this out I'm assuming it's correct Auburn's receivers tonight had six touchdowns which matches the total for the receiver a year ago why would you say like let's pump the breaks it's Alabama A&M no progress was made this off season and just to Sho that away no we're not doing that we're not doing that at all we're not doing that at all sorry to call you out Robert but like I knew it it was gonna be somebody somebody was gonna say it it's okay to be excited about your favorite team doing well ridiculous just ridiculous so Brent Brent asked what did the left side of the offensive line look like I didn't pay attention who was playing to me like I was watching it at the beginning and then I purposely looked away because I wanted to see the skill guys and I was gonna say I'll look at the o line closer in the rewatch but the goal of the offensive line is to not notice it Brett did you notice it like the fact that you said like you know you didn't pay attention to who out to who was playing it's like to me um to me like if you don't notice the left side of the offensive line that's a good thing and so we do need to see what the participation looks like tomorrow but um I thought I thought everything looked fine which is good um I do know in the in the stadium they announced both left tackles as starters which I thought was intriguing um so yeah we'll see we'll see uh efficient gaming says I think we got 2021 Thorn back y'all what do you think Zach I hope so because once again like 2021 Thorne which was his first four year starting at Michigan State and he had all these NFL options to throw to Future NFL options to throw to and the handle ball off too he has that again he has that again and he's got a scheme that I think is actually more modernized than what he had at Michigan State so like the recipe for success is there it's just is it gonna is it going to happen it's a strong start it's a strong start for sure I mean if you get half of what 2021 Thorn was with what this defense can be and the way the schedule goes like you can be you can be a solid solid solid uh solid team this year which is which is great which is great few people talking about fair weather and yeah I said that earlier in the show like that was kind of like if we're going to nitpick on offense here that was the one that said hey you know like raldo should have caught that raldo should have caught that that touchdown to me like I think he's better than what we saw tonight so to me that that's I think that's important I think that's important Joshua says Thoren has a quarter of his passing yards from last season I haven't looked but that checks out and he did it in a half did it in a half on 13 completions there's going to be a lot of catch and run yes it's Alabama A&M I know I know I watched the game I'm aware previewed this game for months I I get it I know it's Alabama A&M uh let's see all right question about Caleb Burton thought he was fine he had a drop right and then he got ran down I wish he would have scored that touchdown wish you would have scored that touchdown Caleb Burton but yeah he ended up with multiple catches for 49 yards you take that 49 yards on three targets you take that you take that for sure all right um I'm going to go ahead let me make sure Charlie 5 is live I want to send y'all to him um Kyle if you're watching go ahead and go live so I can we can drop that link in the chat here uh defensive takeaway is the linebackers might be the best position group right now I love love parts of the defensive backfield and I love parts of the defensive line and and that's where I I need to go back and watch the first quarter because there are a few comments I want to make but I want to make sure I'm correct when I say them and who I point out but there were some holes on the defense where like I want to go back and see if Alabama A&M's receivers haven't like if they wouldn't have dropped a few of those passes and like if they were an SEC caliber like receiver and they would have held on to those ball balls what that would have done to the flow of the game because I do think it would have impacted it and so I think that's worth noting the past rush seems to be there at least for the TV broadcast they talked up the tackle and the matchup with keldrick so like that's encouraging that they were able to do it against uh a guy who's getting scouted by uh by the NFL like you certainly certainly love that um but we'll see I mean we'll see I I want to watch I want to watch the defense again before I um yeah before I jump into to that and I just wanted to bog I don't really want to nitpick and point out negative things tonight so all right I'm dropping this in the live chat everybody click on that link I just put in live chat go support Kyle in the barn like his stream And subscribe over there as well um and then also if you subscribe to that channel you can also check out me and Brad law we do a show called Village Vice on that channel like four times a week or so a thousand of you watching late at night thank you guys so much in the morning Daryl dait
