Cody Benjamin with cbssports.com joins us for a game Day preview Cody great to see you and get your Insight let's start with this if you had to give us a headline for this week's matchup Vikings Giants on the road what would your headline be oh man well thanks for having me on I would say it starts with Sam darnold I would say is Sam darnold capable and I guess the question is you know what is HE capable of delivering the Vikings this year we're kind of in feels like we've been in the same spot for about five to seven years with the Vikings where they can't get out of that middle ground you know they're they're always good enough that they're not going to bottom out uh but they also haven't reached uh you know gotten over the hump and so I think it's a it's a weird Middle Ground middle territory with Sam darnold where all of your hopes you know the Vikings were going to come out and say JJ McCarthy is our guy week one necessarily right um but this was a year about looking forward and now that's kind of been put on hold a little bit and so Sam darnold um this is aamp for him to kind of redeem The Arc of his career and yeah he's never had a better setup the question is can he get the Vikings above that wild card territory yeah let's talk more about players who is a key Vikings player to watch and and why yeah I would say Aron Jones I mean if it's not Sam darnold I think it's the guy that he's going to be handing the ball to obviously everyone's going to have their eyes on Justin Jefferson already but Aaron Jones you know last year the Vikings they couldn't really run the ball effectively or efficiently and so Aaron Jones I mean all summer you know I was out at training camp the guy he still has it um you know he was with the Packers before he still got a lot of speed there's going to be a lot more explosion out of the back field um so I think he he is a guy that if anyone can take a burden off of Sam darnold and they're not named Justin Jefferson I think it is Aaron Jones Okay Cody let's turn our attention to the opposing team the New York Giants who would you say is the biggest threat if you tell me it's Daniel Jones we're going to end this interview right now well you know what's funny is I remember so I was at the Vikings Giants playoff game a coup years ago and so much has changed you know since that happened but in that game Daniel Jones was carving up the uh the secondary now obviously he's proven since then uh he's maybe not Mr reliable yeah I think it's on the other side of the ball for the Giants um you know they have I think an underrated front seven you've got Dexter Lawrence in the middle two good pass rushers in Kayon Tibido and now Brian Burns and so the Vikings have good tackles but the interior maybe a little more questionable on the offensive line and Sam darnold um you know we know he can throw the ball well he's got first round armed Talent the question has always been you know when he's got pressure in his face can he make the right decisions and so I think the Giants front seven could be a problem do do you have a score prediction for this weekend I think it's going to be low scoring I wouldn't expect you know a 38 35 shootout between these two teams for multiple reasons I I would say it's more in the low 20s um I do think the Vikings will win it um I know that the Giants are going to be probably more Scrappy than some anticipate but I think this is going to be a good launching point for Sam darnold's attempt to kind of resurrect his career so let's say uh 23 18 uh Vikings I like where your head's at Cody Benjamin cbssports.com Cody thanks so much for your Insight we appreciate your time thank you for having me
