PRESEASON PRACTICE RECAP | FSU Football Day 16 | Florida State Football | Warchant TV #FSU

day 16 in the books Ira chafel Jeff Cameron good to be with you guys hey you can taste Ireland it's almost time it's almost time you could taste IRA and I was like settle down here thatd be weird I love you what an entrance what a start to the video uh for practice 16 but you can't taste Ireland I'm ready to go man we're ready to we I think we've seen what we need to see that the people want to know more so what are we going to tell him about today the receivers looked a little bit better they did they did good day for the receivers in fact uh receivers anti ends we saw a lot of guys making plays today which was really good to see some of it in team competition but also in the one-on-ones really they kind of put on a show compared to most days It's a Grind sometimes for that receiving core but you saw you know Benson portier Kon porer had a beautiful catch in the corner the endzone where he kind of like tipped it to himself himself um yeah just oh don't don't forget now come on go ahead say it deban guys Day from a man deban little Lake would love there but he did he had a good day and that's the second straight day that he's had a good day so he uh McCoy again you know listen that this any kind of reprieve for the receivers where they can we can yeah you got to celebrate it because that's how good this secondary is and you know when you watch this team play that's all you're kind of fixated on right now is I think they're going to block I think they're going to tackle I think they're very good on defense we know that secondary is really good can they find some guys to emerge at wide receivers so a day like this has to be celebrated it didn't start off great the very first they do a three period three they do kind of like a two-minute drill and the very first play DJ basically has to eat it and I go back watch the replay and L it's cuz there's nobody open it's not like DJ didn't process it quick enough there literally is three or four wide receivers out in routes and they're all blanketed and that's how it's been at times I mean there sometimes it's just there's nowhere to go with the ball this secondary is really good we actually talked to Patrick ceran today Flor State DB's Coach and he's excited about this group he mentioned 15 guys he he said he had 15 guys he feels like he can put out there on the field and that's that's extraordinary that's not normal I almost followed up with are we sure about 15 15 is a big number IRA I like do we even have 15 defensive backs but listen all of them can play as his point and I think it's a good one and it's also one of the reasons why we're yeah listen first games are always excited but you want to see what this receiving course does when it's not going up against dudes that are future NFL wide uh defensive backs or first rounders or early second rounders I mean they're really loaded there and it was good to hear from Patrick Cain today because I like to learn how you asked them a question how difficult is it for these young guys to be patient oh man I mean you got to imagine these are guys that have been stars at their high school they come here they have the requisite height size speed length and yet they're behind guys that are just like them maybe a little bit older and they all think yeah they all think they can play and they all know they can play they'll go out there and run routes against Florida State's best oldest receivers and more than hold their own and I'm thinking about guys like I mean obviously Charles Lester and Kai Bates and those freshmen but then even the the red shirt freshman the second-year guys um and then you go back to even like a Ricky Knight who just got here this summer has been impressive ground running and some of these guys are going to have to be on the scout team and so that's going to be an adjustment for them because you can't have everybody on the two deep some of these guys have to be on the scout team to give a good look to the the first team offense and they're starting to do some of that installation practice today we're getting to the point now yes the game is still 11 days away but it's it's starting to feel like game week with all the installation against the scout team and that's where it gets tough to kind of give you a report like this because a lot of this how much is it what the Georgia Tech's going to do they're providing different kinds of looks we can't really say anything about that the offense working against a scout team defense at times obviously so it's a little bit difficult to tell what's what but I will tell you this and I've made it a point every time we get together and talk about this I we just take for granted that this is set in stone the special team's going to be great I mean they every time I watch this and I know that's not the sexiest thing in the world to talk about they got a great punter they got a great kicker and they got speed to burn on coverage team so I really don't see how this isn't going to be anything but fantastic for them flipping field position opportunities to really play to your defense which we think is the strength of the team yeah and that you know they obviously we joke about how much Mike norval likes to work on special teams it's a part of every day every single day of practice and they really push the competition in that level so yeah I agree with you and you see some of the guys that are getting out there in those units man it's some of your best players they like to play a lot of their best players in special team so now again I feel like even you know we said the receivers had a good day today the offense had a pretty good day today we still feel like the strength of this team is going to be the defense well if you got a really exceptional defense and you are great on special teams which they should be man you're going to have a chance to beat just about anybody you play I mean we saw Michigan last year the way they played I mean you can you can you can give your offense some time to kind of come around watching a fully motivated Daryl Jackson is something to behold too I know you were inside on some of this IR I was watching the offensive defensive line go at it and when Daryl is healthy right and engaged and focused I really don't know there are going to be too many offensive linemen in the country that going to want to go up against that I mean even really talented guys are struggling to block this guy yeah there were a couple I watched some of the one-on ones when they came inside and it's Maurice Smith against Daryl Jackson and Maurice Smith's a fifth year senior started a ton of games yeah you can't get much better than that it's an allconference caliber Center against an all conference maybe All-America conf caliber defensive tackle and the first time and Daryl Jackson just dismissed him I mean it was to do that to Maurice Smith is impressive he just dismissed him got back in the back field but the next play Maurice came back when they when they came back around to their turn Maurice more than held his own and and that's the kind of competition you're seeing so they do have some of the scout team work where they're doing some of the preparation Georgia Tech but they're also doing some good on good and like you said we've seen it with the receivers you also see with the running backs and the linebackers and and I think that's there's some good battles there as well yeah I love when we talk to the coaches they talk about how many guys are vying for reps how many guys are vying for time I mean it'll be unveiled when we get to Ireland I mean I think there are going to be a lot of guys that are on this depth chart that are maybe the third down that play some and in special teams is an area where they can also play so should be a lot of fun we'll cover it all week long obviously leading up to when the staff goes off to Ireland Cory will be back here early part of the week as well yeah they'll all be here covering the remaining practices before the team goes out so we've got you covered all the way to the actual game over in Ireland so that's it for today practice 16 is in the books he's Ira I'm Jeff don't forget if you haven't yet subscribe to warchant best in the business and we got you covered right now for what a buck and two months what are we doing can't get any can't basically free go shake those cushions and make it happen till next time we'll talk to you soon on warchant TV
