That decision, coming after an agency level review, determined there is just too much uncertainty around bringing the pair home on board. Its problem plagued Boeing spacecraft. Here's Fox's Christina Coleman with the latest. >> Reporter this has not been an easy decision, but it is absolutely the right one. >> In a news conference from Cape Canaveral, NASA announced it's decided to keep two of its astronauts. Retired Navy Captain Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams in space until February. Rather than bring them home on the troubled Boeing Starliner spacecraft that carried them to the International Space Station in June. Since then, the spacecraft has had several helium leaks and thruster issues. >> The decision to keep Butch and Sunny aboard the International Space Station and bring the Boeing Starliner home uncrewed is the result of a commitment to safety. >> NASA administrator Bill Nelson acknowledged the administration has made fatal mistakes in the past. He says this time, their review of the situation included a widespread employee poll asking whether the Starliner should return manned or unmanned. We have been very solicitous of all of our employees. >> Space flight is risky, even at its safest. >> The crew will now return home on board a SpaceX spacecraft in February. As for the empty Starliner capsule, it's expected to undock soon and attempt a return on autopilot. >> We need to get the vehicle back on deck, go through the data, and once we've done that, we'll start thinking about our next steps. >> NASA leaders stressed today they will learn from this effort.
