all right folks Josh newer and Sam I'm here for the Michigan Insider I think this is what year 15 for us Sam I don't know it's he's my road dog we all know that but let's get right into the season Michigan is your defending national champions they they battled everything last year and they won it now this is a new season and the new season comes with the controversy right now I want to say controversy competition yeah quarterback competition let's get right into it Davis Warren right is we're hearing the Scuttle but that he might be the guy what are you hearing Sam so listen for majority of off season the attention has been on Alex orgy and understandably so he's the guy that we had seen uh the most last season Davis my bad yeah Dynamic offensive t uh Dynamic Athlete uh you know other worldly athlete one of the best athletes in the country he was on the freaks list for Bruce Felman for and rightfully so and a guy that when you saw him in the spring game though it can't just be about athleticism yeah he needed to be more consistent as a passer I've boiled it down to could he be that guy on third and four to six who consistently hit that pass because if he can hit third and four to six consistently now it unlocks that that athleticism to be difference making and you heard me say in many of these reports he's a difference making athlete but that doesn't necessarily mean being a difference making player on the field well you get in the fall camp and he was making those third and four to six plays consistently very consistently early in Camp to the point where the buzz out of Camp was oh man he's gonna be the guy he's gonna be the guy he's gonna be the guy all along the way though it's like oh man Davis is having a Davis Warren is having a really good camp right so I went away on vacations folks know when I came back Alex hadn't faltered I was curious how was he going to respond to having a bad practice though because he hadn't he didn't have many he threw four interceptions all of all of fall c three of those came in one practice and they said it was early in one practice about Alex he bounced back finished really strong came back the next day had a really good practice so he showed you the ability to bounce back from a bad practice to the point where they like hey you know what he is showing you some resiliency some leadership and he's been consistent has been lights out but it's showing you the consisteny that you like to be a quarterback still looking like qb1 but all alone they're saying hey you know what Davis has made it so he's had such a good camp that Alex hasn't run away with still looking like Alex qb1 but he hadn't run away with it as we got later in this week though Josh like I don't know I don't know the word I have practice during game week was that Davis Warren had a 87% completion I saw that in the blog 87% if you follow us listen we we give you the straight dirt we don't give you like there were reports that Michigan had named a quarterback and they had named a starter all that was a bunch of fun but what was accurate was that Davis had practiced really well supremely well 87% completion rate well and so what was he doing better is the key point if you listen to the comments on Alex over the years or I mean on on Davis over the years arm talent wise his arm Talent is a lot like JJ I'm not saying he's JJ mcari but throwing the football sling it he can sling it so in drills and seven on seven he looks a lot like J he's not the he's not the athlete that JJ was okay nor is he the guy that in actual football stuff when pressure is bearing down and you got to make plays he couldn't do any of that right but when they got in Spring ball it was like okay well now he's making some plays and pressure in his face he's stepping away from some pressure making plays down the field when they got in Camp now he's doing that a lot more consistently getting game weak it's like oh boy whatever is happening he's still balling at 87% so I say all of that to say I my gut tells me that Davis Warren is gonna be your qu so let me counter this it's Davis Warren if he does start which we assume that he is my gut tells me Davis Warren is gonna be start do we expect sort of a similar scenario where we got two years ago or back no no how how we expect so no I this is not a scenario where I think the game is a is a continuation of the competition where it's like you go into the game and cage you get the first quarter JJ you get the second quarter and let's see what the yeah what what the game renders as far as who the quarterback is gonna be before you expect Alex to play I expect yeah so here's how I think it'll break down all right I think that they're going to name name Davis Warren the starter okay and I think and I think appreciate it thanks a lot blue I think Davis is going to be the starter and I think Alex is going to play a lot I think he's earned it I think he's not gonna just be a package guy being at that being Alex I think he's gonna get in the game he's gonna throw what's up go Blue go Blue I think he's gonna get in there and they're gonna throw he's gonna throw pass he's gonna run the offense for a couple reasons it's not just because he earn it he's a weapon I think you got a Grizzle your backup whoever he is I say was the other way around I think they would played Davis too because you got to get that guy some snaps because neither one of these guys have played you got to prepare them and the other reason is what if your starter falters and you need to switch to the other guy now you need to have that guy ready right so multiple reasons to play the other guy significant snaps in more than just garbage time so I think Davis is the guy and I think Alex plays you know three four and maybe five Series in the game I can we talk a little bit about something else with this game a topic that I'm I've always been uh at least I'm concerned about Le a lot of people want to know what they're going to look like I think this the straw that serves to drink isn't going to be necessarily the quarterback it's going to be the offensive line play what are you sort of hearing there and how confident are you that they can come out and show that they're gelled and everything what are you hearing so uh I'm hearing that Evan link I if you follow our reports listen we We Lay It Down better than anybody we're more accurate than anybody on all this stuff so if you followed our inside Camp reports going back to the first week of fall camp we laid Evan Link's name down at that point and I went to watch Evan in high school and Evan I watched him play Nick haror you guys remember Nick haror right yeah and the thing about that matchup was Evan wasn't much bigger than Nick haror you know Evan Evan was like 270 pounds maybe right so he could always move but he couldn't move people right right well Evan in heading in the camp was he was maybe 270 as a senior high school he's 328 pounds it's a big boy now so they were talking about Jeff Percy and and Andrew Gentry in Spring ball but as they headed into the camp in the first week of Camp the the defensive guys that's who that's who was telling me the defensive guys like oh man this Evan link this Evan Link's the guy that's who game recognized yeah I was hearing it from the defensive guys like oh man links to do links to do links to do links to do and so link is gonna be it's gonna be Evan Link at right tackle so another guy and I know I I you talked about him I listened to your show a guy that I went and saw personally in high school and I remember I called you Sam I said Dominic adise I think he's an offensive lineman Sam this guy is not gonna play on the defense I called you I called it what he now you're talking about he starting Sun yeah so here's the story so d D jise and I sent you to see him when they took d jise d JIS excuse me Jim harb that was a Jim Harbaugh take he got a tip from the Ravens and they took him and none of the rest of the the rest of the staff didn't know they took him as a as a recruit right that was purely a Jim Harbaugh take without any knowledge or input for the rest of the staff had a Rucker offer was not very highly recruit hey go BL go BL appreciate it thanks for the support all right so they didn't the rest of the staff was like who is this guy yeah who is this guy defensive lineman they took but he was he was a grinder think a high school Wrestler High School wrestler right so he you were you called it give you credit he flips to the offensive line and so what does he bring the mentality right away as a Smasher and a Mauler yeah right so he brings that physicality that you like to see right the attitude that you like to see but the other thing that really has kind of risen to the surface the football IQ piece of it the offensive line quarterback piece of it that you saw with first bardis and then Olu Ola teami and then you get into it the the entire run of centers during this run they're saying that he brings a lot of that same thing to the equation so this is not a situation like at right tackle where I think they were struggling at right tackle and then Evan link kind of saw the struggles I think they weren't struggling at Center and Dom jice is just like he just took it he just took it yeah so I think Dom jice is GNA be your starting center yeah that brings that lunch pail attitude that you want to see obviously there's going to be a ton of story lines going into this game we hit on the big two the offensive line the quarterbacks of the starting quarterback the defense I think there's going to be some pieces we need to talk about but I think we're going to save that for postgame we already know that's going to be a top five defense with all those studs coming back so stay tuned for all our coverage more for Sam web I'm Josh nuker for the Michigan insider.com
