Martin Truex Jr. On His Engine Failure: "The Thing Was On Fire When I Came In [The Pits]"

Martin Truex Jr on engine failure did you have any indication of what was happening before it went uh I mean it it started missing down the backstretch all at once so once it did that it just started slowing down losing power and uh I ran a couple laps and you know probably should have pit it earlier cuz the thing was on fire when I came in so uh I felt it happen it happened all at once um and that's usually how the engine issues go you break a valve spring or something and the you know the sometimes you get away with it and and you can limp around to the finish and then sometimes the uh the old valve goes through a piston I think we got the ladder so um definitely uh definitely tough break there for us and um you know feel bad for all the guys at TRD that are working so hard they've had a few issues here lately and you know it's never uh it's never fun to be um to be the the guys having them issues their engines are amazing and they have been for a long time so uh I don't know just a little bit of bad luck on our part I guess this was not a typical richond Martin Truex Jr on Chase Elliott incident performance for the 19 team between what happened on Pit Road and then whatever was going on with Chase Elliott can you just kind of describe your day yeah I mean it was going really good until we had our issue on Pit Road with the tire falling off and um that's just kind of been the way our season's gone run good shoot yourself in the foot so uh you know we got to clean those things up with um you know three races go till the playoffs and you if we're not careful we won't make it so we got to be smart and um just get the finishes we deserve we haven't been doing that lately like you know the past six or seven races we haven't gotten any decent finishes and we've run really strong so it's frustrating um the deal with Chase Elliot which is not a big deal it was just uh you know he I had him pinned in behind a lap car and he just turned to left and knocked me down on the racetrack a whole Lane so he could get by the lap car and get the spot I didn't really appreciate that and I let him know but then it was over with it was no big deal so uh it is what it is we're Martin Truex Jr on tire strategy done talk to me about the titles real quick just the difference between the prime and the options it just seems when Suarez got on that that soft tire he was gone yeah I mean he was cuz everybody else was on the prime tire so you know we had just put our set of options on and um you know the car was pretty good right there we made up a few spots on the restart and and um we were feeling like we were back to where it was earlier so um we were going to have another set later on to use too and the 99 was all the way you know falling back on the yellows so I think we put them on at the right time with the right strategy uh to stay with the rest of the field just uh you know you got to make it to the end to see what you can do really appreciate your the Vivid EV Anthem is the essence of American Spirit made with lithium battery technology this neighborhood electric vehicle features vibrant colors Diamond Stitch seats and seats up to six it isn't just made in America It's Made For America Steven stump ofr tr.com here come back for more great racing videos and if you like us don't forget to hit that subscribe button
