it let's get back to it how about them lons let's talk about how I love that the Detroit Lions even though they played a sloppy game even though there's going to be a lot of stuff that is probably going to come and bite them and they've got a lot to work on including a Turf that seems hostile to the Detroit Lions I love that in spite of all of that when they had that one chance when they got the the coin they got the thing they looked at their offense and said you know what run the ball run it down their throats who cares run the ball run the dang ball run the ball smash him Bowl him over don't care one and0 just win baby did I join a domination the uh Luchador mask is T is typical for um I need to take it off soon though because I'm already hot uh that stuff with the that stuff figuring out the stream uh got me really sweaty it's also uh 909 95° here in the San Fernando Valley at 9:00 at night so um we're we are yes I am hot thank you thank you thank you I apologize dearly I think I figured out what the land mine I was tripping in the um in the in the OBS anyway let's talk about the Detroit Lions let's talk about how that is some grit right there I don't think the Lions played very well in this game I also think a lot of their problems are stuff you that are just symptoms of this being week one in the NFL and the modern week one in the NFL is a is trouble I understand the Rams were missing a lot of their their offensive line I understand the Rams lost pukan AA I also understand that the Lions held them to like three points for over 40 minutes in that game and ultimately at the end of the day puka leaving basically like gave them a chance to throw the ball a hell of a lot more to Cooper cup and Cooper cup is still really good and the offensive line doesn't need to so much when Matthew Stafford is throwing it within like two seconds in his hands like he is getting that ball out hyper quick when he when he's getting it out there like all of that got negated it felt a lot like the Seattle game from two from from a year ago it was just dink duck like all the Rams had to do was Dink and duck and the Lions had no answer for it and um and man Christ m likes the lions catching ins I will defend Carlton Davis on that last one he should have caught it but we are going to have to talk about the turf monster and I really want some some some answers on the turf monster right now because that was Brazil bad out there that was Brazil bad on an artificial turf I don't understand it we have to give the Rams some credit at the end of the day I I know this is tough and I know a lot of people saw some sloppy play from the Detroit Lions out there but you have to give the Rams credit that is a very tough team I actually think they will win the NFC West if they can figure out these injury bugs now but that that looked like week one football which means I mean largely I think a lot of what was out there was form problems for the Detroit Lines the good news is form problems you can fix uh I think they are still figuring out their new identity on offense now down Josh Reynolds you could definitely tell it the good news is let's talk about some of that offense because although d Montgomery is the hero of the night how about Jameson Williams huh like not just the amount of yards J Mo was catching but how he was catching it Ender rounds mid-range stuff short yardage and yes deep threats where he has to slow down a bit because he's running so damn fast to catch that ball and get that long touchdown 121 yard yards on the night for Jameson Williams like that man but you you heard it all Camp man you heard it all Camp Ben Johnson is excited about how he's going to use Jameson Williams Ben Johnson is excited how he's gonna use Jameson Williams how about five receptions for 121 yards yeah that's good that that's good that's the stuff right there Alan raw I thought was kept pretty quiet but I do think that's going to be a CH it's listen teams know who St Brown is at this point they are going to cover the hell out of him you they are going to cover the hell out of Aman raw St Brown and he he he struggled through it I saw him a few times getting put in a box but Jameson will but that's why you have a multifaceted multi-talented unilateral combat system for an offense and that's why when it looks like the the like look I will also give the Rams credit on that that is that was some rough rough pass rush that that the offensive line who didn't play at all in the preseason and is now has a new guard in Kevin zitler like they yes they took away the middle of the field and they had enough good pass rush I was telling people to watch out for Jared verse I was telling people to watch out for Kobe Turner Jared verse made a statement for himself for the LA Rams to start this year as a very threatening linebacker and like like look look look late in that game the Lions had no answer for it second half they made the adjustments they need the Lions had no answer to deal with the Rams that were on top of Jared gof the entire game there was no real answer for it give them credit on that front and that's something they they have to work with and that's something that's just ultimately going to get better as the o line plays more together again as it is for every season these are September football problems the good news is you have September football problem problems and it doesn't show up in in the win loss column because you got the win take that away from it as you will there was a lot of Doom that could have gone with this game I think a lot of people are going to be nitpicking a lot of this Lion's performance I do think some of this fixes up as you spend more time together the good news is is that you just saw what the Lions do with their backs up against the wall because you had Jared gof in good Rhythm for that final drive to set up the Jake Bates field goal and what we always said about Jake Bates man I don't I wasn't holding my breath about Jake Bates I wasn't because that man performs good field goals under pressure and he knew he had to have it talk about let's let's talk about how that Lions defense even though they were getting gashed up you put uh you put a short field in front of in in front of Matthew Stafford and they they buckled down more often than not and then yes let's talk about the fact that all the cards on the table you've got the ball one possession wins see the game run the ball run the ball all the niceties I really do think the Lions offense and the Rams offense is like looking in a mirror at each other it's like looking in a mirror at each other they all want to do the the Rams and the Lions want to do the same things they want to do the same things with their receivers their running backs and in that moment with the Lions won the toss and they decided you know what let's go to that gear and just run the damn ball Ben Johnson needs to stop not running the ball when it working I I do think there was a point like where the Run was kind of you you saw it with jir Gibbs they were get Rams were getting penetration late in that game and really starting to finagle uh like really starting to fluster the Run game a bit and like look you needed to pick up yards like you were not getting enough with the Run game in the middle of that game but you didn't in the overtime where you really needed it I don't think Run game and passing game looks the same throughout all quarters of a game like you get different looks as the game progresses that's why you have coordinators and coaches because you know you see what's happening you're like all right they're adjusting to this let's adjust to this they're adjusting to this let's adjust to this kyen Williams is to David Montgomery look they needed Stafford to throw the ball late in that game and throwing the ball was working for them it was working for them they weren't go needing to go even that deep Cooper cup gets and pukaa both get yaked puka nakua is out you just keep feeding Cooper cup with that o line we should be able to run the ball every play for the rest of the game if we have a 14-point lead I don't know about that like look every like the Rams really choked on their their run defense at the end you want to especially in week one you also want to make sure all your guys are getting looks you're still figuring out your team this isn't college football you have a 17 game you have a 17 Game season there's a lot that's going to change a lot that's going to adjust one thing that probably has to adjust and we do need to get answers on it is Turf conditions or cleats I don't know I I've never seen guys slip like that um like wow that was something it's kind of concerning I don't know what to do with it didn't Stafford Stafford had 49 passes in this game Jared G had 28 sorry uh 49 pass attempts I should let me clarify 49 pass attempts to Jared Go's 28 pass attempts 34 completions Jared go had 18 Stafford was asked to carry a lot on his shoulders tonight Arnold penalties are like so I see some talk on tyan Arnold tyon Arnold played like a rookie quarterback I don't know what else to say I know there's a lot of hype on him I think he'll be fine eventually um cornerbacks need time to adjust the NFL he is seeing a game that out of speed he has never encountered before let me tell you that even at Alabama he's never encountered a game as fast the NFL and I said as much in our preview with Hamza Bou and Brandon naps this is a no matter what you did no matter where you plac the rookie CBS no matter where you place Brian brand no matter where you placed aiek Robertson this was a trial by fire right out of the gate for the new lion secondary look who's on the other side man it's the LA Rams it's the LA Rams and two of the best wide receivers in defense in the NFL and a quarterback who is very very good to get the ball to them I think Arnold will be fine I think I I think these guys again this is my point on 17 games in the NFL well they will be fine they had one hell of an assignment out the gate and the Lions didn't play a lot of starters in in the preseason so they're really like week one look around the NFL right now I don't think Cincinnati is that bad they can't be that bad I hope to God they are not that bad Atlanta can't be that bad I hope to God they are not that bad Jacksonville took a really rough loss I think you know Miami only put up 20 points today like the best offenses out there was probably Houston and Indiana Apolis like I I I it's week one and that's why I was kind of cautioning this week one we overreact like hell we should know this if we watch the NFL every year overreactions happen all the time you take a lot out of week one you're just so hungry for football and you just take whatever happens in week one and take it to be a gospel and then what happens week two happens a lot of stuff changes because teams make adjustments they see what's happening in week one of full full scale football against full scale teams first team on first team which isn't something you get in the preseason anymore at all ever and say okay this is what we do now so I'm just saying there's a lot of problems right now the Lions had on week one but I also think a lot of those problems we saw are eminently fixable on week after week one as well oh are some people not seeing Ruby for the first time yeah yeah that's Ruby yeah I think I look there's a longer conversation about starters playing in in in preseason it's just it is what it is at this point and like let's also give the uh Rams something else to this gumbo too that was absolutely a Revenge game for Stafford he wanted that game they put the ball in his hands and they said you go out there and you like try to put down all these booze and stuff like they they they just yeah I am happy for onz as well Hutchinson was awesome as well too yes I really wish Hutch could have gotten home more I I see the hustle out there man but once again it always felt like oh he's about to hit Stafford he's about oh Stafford got the ball out okay still racked four quarterback hits in this game very good start for the season for for Aiden Hutchinson Marcus Davenport also had three hits on on the quarterback as well like Stafford play yes Stafford played like Stafford played out of his mind tonight 34 from 49 3177 yards one touchdown one interception and give Kirby Joseph some credit on that that that interception I don't know what was happening there I think Stafford lost a bit of sight on the on the uh on the Red Zone when he threw that pick but I also think Kirby Joseph leaped a long distance to grab that ball too like I don't I think there was part of it was Stafford didn't quite see him but also if Stafford did see him he definitely didn't expect Kirby Joseph to move that far that fast to pick that ball Olive Garden shirt what happened to St Brown today he looked covered is what he looked he looked like the the Rams came into this game with the idea that they were going to put St Brown in a phone booth he was he was in a phone booth the entire game that was that I feel was was was a part of the Rams game plan don't let St brown run on get passes on you like they know who St Brown is right they they know who St Brown is your job if you are Detroit Lions with the league now knowing what St Brown is is you need to tell them all right well also deal with Jameson Williams leaport and Gibbs and if one of those guys gets taken out deal with it the other way or run the ball down their throats I don't think the like leaport also like he only had five targets I again I think part of that is about putting St Brown in foone Booth is that their linebackers played very well and they did not allow anything over the middle they didn't want the Lions moving over the middle on them you saw that a lot with like the short yard dump offs to Gibbs a lot like there were there was a lot of moments where it just felt like I'm not getting anything open and this pass rush is coming so quick there's nothing really to develop and like look the most the the guys who did the most damage were the running backs and J and Jameson Williams like you're you're dealing with a good team I I think there's again some great points here from from from chat and I'm going to keep stealing it because that's what I do um Mass massix uh Massi with like the Roman numerals the Rams are known for scheming well against good wide receivers you are playing a team that's going to be playing in the playoffs that's who you played tonight we don't do this enough give the other team some credit give give the other team some credits did the Rams into this I I do think national team did did come into this game thinking that this would be a high-scoring game because of course why wouldn't you like look I the total for this game was like 50 points it was insane I'm a Steelers fan yeah no I mean that's that's that's like every time I talk with Ste I've got cousins who are Steelers fans it's like it's like Bears fans right every time they start talking about the past they talk about running the football right it's like we've kind of horseshoe theor ourself on on football like the advanced analytics have somehow led us all the way back cranked up and how many and man it's inevitable it's every year and it it really is it's you know first game and the ones that that that can just play basic football the best man the you know the blocking the tackling targeting communication taking care of the football being smart with it the check down it it it's they win and um so yeah there's things that man they're going to come along with it and it's the first time a lot of these guys in a while have have played that many plays with that much intensity um you know and so this is our first taste we'll get better we'll get in a better flow um on both sides of the ball we will but the end of the day our defense uh held these guys to less points than our offense and our offense scored more points in their offense did and so uh we found a way to win yeah listen I you know uh expected him to to play pretty good you know to play better um and uh and he showed up I mean that was a that was a big game you know to be able to catch some of these and go through it and the best part of it was he didn't play best ball there's still so much to clean up um but it also shows the work that he's put in and he he is improving and he's an improved player and he wants it man and he keeps working on it and he just he keeps taking these steps so as long as he keeps doing it um and keeps making plays he's just going to continue to get better so yeah I'm proud of him I'm proud of where he's at but he's got so much room to continue to grow yeah I mean look that's going to help you know and I do believe in that having that onew punch of of two different backs you know but but I just look I said it after we ran the conditioning test uh and whatever that was July 26th I guess um you know the day before we started our first practice this and he was he just man you talk about a guy who was in outstanding shape look all of our guys were but this guy just looked I mean he looked like he didn't break a sweat for this thing and and in the first few days of practice he doesn't look fatigued he he just and so he's in unbelievable shape he's worked uh worked extremely hard and U and he's just man he's reliable he's reliable he he runs heavy he's tough he's physical he gets in a rhythm and I think he's a catalyst for us you know he starts carrying it and he gets better and better and I think the line feeds off of him and he feeds off of them and um and we get what we get so that guy's a stud he a stud yeah yeah I thought uh look I thought Sean Sean had a heck of a plan last week and he had another one this week now we we threw some wrinkles at him you know um I think we we threw a couple of things at him that it was going to take them a minute to adjust to and they did but to that point they adjusted quickly and and Stafford knew exactly you know what what he needed to do he knew where his Outlets were and yeah he was going to get rid of that ball they were going to go a little Tempo on on us and some things and uh you know try to apply a little pressure on us um but I I thought he played outstanding I really did man and uh you know and they were they got banged up over there and and they uh they just kept they just kept coming you know yeah yeah huge play huge play and uh yeah the ends I mean it's it's really what we uh this is this was the vision the whole time this is what we we knew we were going to get when we got Davenport and uh we felt really good about uh the production Hutch is bringing and brought last year and what he was going to be able to bring this year and then just the thought of somebody who can crunch the can over there man crush the can and and send him his way a little bit uh or vice versa and that's what dport can do he's long he's physical he's strong he's a big man um and so that showed up today you know it showed up we were able to hem him up a few times in there and um and so those it it's it's good for him it's going to be good for Hutch and it's going to be good for Davenport did you think it would up the same way like basically running the same way you were last year um yeah I mean you don't entirely know what it's going to be like I just knew this I knew it was going to be a hardfought game I did know that uh because I I I think this coach does a hell of a job you know I do I think Sean always puts together a good game plan uh and then and Stafford man you know he um it's almost like you don't want to hit him because I think when you hit him he plays better and uh you know just he just continued to make plays so so I think those two guys are always going to give you a damn good chance to toh hang in there and have success and so no I I guess if there's any frustration with me it's just look you don't um you know it's not going to be perfect you just want it to be cleaner you just want it to be cleaner than it was that's all uh even for the first game but ultimately it's always going to be about we got to get better and whether we won or lost today we got to get better and we we won we still have to get better and uh we'll clean all this up and then and we got to play better against Tampa next week yeah no I you know we'll see them tomorrow I you know when I saw uh just the replay of both of them I I I wasn't too concerned I know why they threw them especially the second one like okay I got it it you know I understand um it's ticky tacky but that's that's what they do you know and they're going to throw it because they believe it they see it and all good we overcome it um so um but no I I didn't feel like it was some blatant like oh he's out of bad position or I need to talk to him about it I don't want to take away his Stinger Man I want him to play aggressive and look I thought he did some really good things today certainly was not too big for him uh he stepped up I thought Carlton did some good things too really the back in play Pretty good overall you know we just there's a couple of things communication wise we got to clean up and and we will we will okay being the starting all right uh let's see let me see if I can find a uh if we have ma Jared gof should be at the podium let's see oh actually no wait here we go believe we have this year it's been continuous work ever since like you know since I got in the league J this is just the time to show it you know it's first game um it's just a start though we got 16 more in the regular season playoffs we got a lot more ball to play so it's just a start um that's just our offense um and we we knew that from the jump that we got we got Stars we got ball players you know one person don't don't get going we got other people to lean on you know um the offense just shout out to being you know he he he called the right plays and he he know he know the right thing right situations to put us in you know um they was out there like uh in and I st Brown a lot double teaming him a lot and you know somebody else had to make plays and I just made the plays when my number was called to ask you over the last couple years you feel like you're breaking out you feel you're breaking out this starting where you kind told the football world that you are um yeah I also didn't feel like I was an NFL star you know um it's just it's just it's just now it's it's showing um I don't look at this as no no no different game you know it's um just the beginning it's the first game of the season I got a lot more in me though that was real valuable to me um I think to to the team too and and to golf you know we got a real great connection over the over the spring and the summer throwing we threw a couple times in practice um we a couple times in La you know so it just translated and the hard work is just finally showing you know um not not with just me with the whole team you know we just that was a hard game to win you know the Rams was a good team and the defense helped out a lot special teams everybody came together you know we just played to the last seconds of the game so um I would say it feels good you know knowing that the hard work is paying off but we got a lot a lot more to go yeah um it it was it it was a play we we we had we we knew who we was going to run it on and we we we had that in in motion early in the week so we worked on it a couple times you know and we caught in the game whoever we said whoever get whoever get the pass it's it's a mirror play so it's both sides so you know whoever win get the ball it like um yes yes I would say that because U you know the playoff game last year ended 23 24 if I'm not mistaken it came down to the last seconds just like this one this one actually went further it went to overtime um like I said the Rams was a good team and and and they played real great ball today and I just feel like we played better and we came out on top because you know that's what coach preach to us you know grit and we go we go all the way till it's done and you know we going to finish um not to me not to me I wouldn't say sppy but you know um it's first game you know being on Turf for a lot of us you know we didn't some of us didn't play in the preseason so we just like getting back to the turf field we practice on grass a lot so that may be a thing um I'm not really sure about the turf I think it was okay I I don't I don't really know I I ain't feel like they still oh yeah for sure this just this just game one um like I said I put in a lot of work work um I expected to have a big game you know um me personally I expect to have a big game I guess I guess it's just big to the world um because it's my first one but I I plan to have a lot more you know um I don't plan on this being my best game in my career I play on this just being a start of start of you know me me being me game ball I never got a game ball not at BMA not at nowhere I ain't even going to lie this right here this a might not my hands I might sleep like this yeah um I think it scares the defense a lot because you know it has a lot of it has a lot of way we have a lot of ways to stretch the field um you know you can get a ball to GES he can get he can move the chains you can get a ball to anybody we they can move the chains from the tight ends to the running back to the receivers you know even gol you see he got down there he got the first down for it so you know uh I don't really think it's about speed I think it's about playmaking um you know we come down to who can make the plays and we make plays um not just me Saint everybody make plays so I would be I would say it wouldn't be the speed it would be the playmaker all right now they're going to a commercial let me see if we got Jared Goff at all I don't think we do was like oh we do have jerro off let me go back a bit to where he started here we go J yeah yeah it's awesome uh that that little double move we had kind of getting ready all week and um he smoked him on it and laid it out there for him made a great catch and a couple big plays from him all night he did a great jobis quiet yeah I don't know if they were doing anything in particular I think uh the theme of tonight kind of we just kind of kept shooting ourselves in the foot a little bit certainly offensively just you know we had we had some plays there that um we could have had and and uh I got to be better with the Cadence for our guys and um be a little smoother there on the operational stuff and uh that alone would solve a lot of problems tonight that we had but uh it just wasn't our smoothest but a win's a win we got to be happy about it yeah it was good hand it to demo man that battering ram just hand it to him and and he did the rest it was fun it was fun watching him um kind of catch that second win there in that overtime and our old line the same way and then I was joking with him when we after like we called the play on the one yard line it was like this is scoring like we didn't there was no doubt and um punched it in it was great yeah yeah I think so I mean there there's certainly things that were below our standard um but yeah some of the operational stuff is is ultimately my job and um wasn't good enough good enough for a win wasn't good enough for our standard yeah man he's our tone Setter he's he's a leader he's he's uh the guy when the gamees in the line we want to find him you remember last year in the playoff game we threw it to him on I think first or second down there so um man he's as valuable to our team as anybody yeah yeah that was a tough sequence for us uh stalled out a couple times I throw the pick almost throw another one and then we get the punt off and um defense gets a stop and then we go down and get the field goal so yeah we we bounced back nicely it was it was nice to see that um ultimately we did enough to win the game and it does feel good when overtime began did you feel like that time you guys haming as uh yeah you never know it it was uh it was what we wanted to do there at the end I don't know we throw it twice there and on that drive so yeah as soon as one of those runs pops with him you kind of just kind of come back to the well and see if we can get it again wow yeah I think you know ultimately I think it shows that we didn't play our best game um and still won and ton of stuff to clean up uh ton of things to get better at and it does feel a little bit like week one last year where it's like yeah we kind of like we're making some mistakes but we're able to get the win anyways and um for it to be in overtime it it is special and um one I think you know months from now we'll look back and be happy we have I like that everyone everyone compliment David's watch it looks good okay that's enough of that let me uh I I I know people were asking me to turn end of the tunnel for the Carolina Panthers I I don't I feel really bad for them I feel really bad for them I think their problems go Way Beyond whoever they pick up at coach and they go Way Beyond Bryce young they I that that is a dysfunctional organization in Carolina Cardinals could be sneaky good some games I think so too I think Kyler Murray played very well today I think Kyler Murray played very well today who I was not impressed with was the Raiders the Raiders talked a lot of junk all off seon they talked a lot they had a lot of stuff around them and I know Antonio Pierce got a lot of comparisons to being Dan Campbell you know why where you can't be Dan Campbell when he punted on when when you decide to punt on fourth and one from the Chargers 43 with seven minutes left down six that screams weakness and that team I I did not see a good team out there we all just kind of let the Raiders go with like yeah they they have bad quarterbacks they they don't have good quarterbacks do we just forget about this do we just fall in love with them like I you let you let the Chargers run on you for 22 points I know I know Max Crosby's good the rest of that team did not look good like Gardner mchu got his yards but to but to only 10 points they just can't finish they can't finish I I'm not a fan of the Raiders Bowers did play all right he he did he was all right but again like you need you can't have all those yards from mshu and only have 10 points you can't have three quarters of no touchdowns it was the Titans the other team besides the Giants and Panthers competition for over number one overall let's talk a little bit about what happened in that Tennessee Chicago game shall we I know we're getting away from Lions I do love the rest of the NFL and I do the Ace Attorney games but I am enjoying it quite a bit it's a fun little puzzle game so it's no no I I love it don't get me wrong at all I love Ghost Trick and I think right now for like another day or so it's only like $20 on on the switch store because there is a sale going on it's a fun little game I've enjoyed it I I know it was like an older it's basically remaster stuff but I enjoy it uh NE is next game in Detroit or I believe it is it is in Detroit it is in Detroit because they they face Tampa and then they go on the road to play Arizona this is not an easy start to the schedule Washington will be good down the road they need more young talent I I did like what I saw out of Jaden Daniels today again rookie quarterback work in progress I think Jaden Daniels would be fine Jaden Daniels had I think like 260 yards from scrimmage 270 yards from scrimmage both in passing and rushing two rushing touchdowns like I know commanders lost but I think Jaden Daniels remember how we were just talking about Caleb Williams and his first rookie appearance Jaden Daniels looked fine he looked great he doesn't have a lot of weapons to work with outside of like you know I mean scary Terry the Steelers in place of uh in place of Russell Wilson and then it came out that Dak Prescott signed a four-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys for two for $231 million 200 $31 million about two three years ago the Cleveland Browns gave $230 million guaranteed to DeShaun Watson now we also understand that that that one was for five years and you know quarterback contracts go up but Dak Prescott got one mill only one 1 million more than what the Browns had already been throwing at deshun Watson and now through three two years of actually seeing DeShaun Watson on the field I'm sorry DeShaun Watson can't play football I Deshawn Watson can't play that holy God like and that is a world class defense the Browns are wasting I feel a little bit for Browns fans because I feel like this is kind of like a weird alternate reality that the that the Lions could have gone down not signing some creep like Watson but still like throwing all your trust behind a guy like a quarterback like that having everything else built up around it and this is what you get at the end of the day this bag of eggs all your heart poured into it that this was a new era of Cleveland Browns football that you wouldn't have the long list of quarterbacks on the back of the roster and this is what you got DeShaun Watson throwing two picks Nick chub out so you only have 44 yards right on the ground from Jerome Ford not getting anything getting smacked around by the Dallas Cowboys wasting the best defense I've seen out of Jim Schwarz this is going to be a really rough year for the Cleveland Browns who knows May again this is week one maybe turn they turn some of that around the AFC North is wide open uh Pittsburgh's win over Atlanta feels fugazi as hell and all on their defense um the Bengals look rough real rough right now and the Ravens took a l like and they got mad about that L by the way but I just don't see the path for the Cleveland Browns and I feel bad for them because they are so close they are so close and yet so so far away that you have a quarterback that once played at an MVP level and a coach of the year and this is your lot this is your lot because that quarterback is a creep who is getting karmic retribution I I do believe that I do believe that what you don't think the Steelers field goal only strategy is legit listen man I've learned one thing about playing fantasy football
