Eric Bayan iami is an American football coach and former player who is currently the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator for the Washington commanders of the National Football League NFL he played college football for the Colorado Buffalos and was a unanimous All-American and a national champion in 1990 Eric was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the second round of the 1991 NFL draft later playing for the Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles primarily as a special teamer before returning to Colorado in the early 2000s to finish his degree following that he was hired as the school's running backs coach and later coached for the UCLA Bruins and the NFL's Minnesota Vikings helping developing players such as Maurice Jones Drew and Adrien Peterson in his coaching career from the year 2000 he has worked for several college and NFL teams including the Kansas City Chiefs where he won two Super Bowls as the the offensive coordinator he was credited in the development of Kareem hunt who led the NFL in rushing yards as a rookie in 2017 he was promoted to offensive coordinator Under head coach Andy Reid in 2018 winning Super Bowl 54 and Super Bowl 57 with the Chiefs before joining the commanders as their assistant head coach and offensive coordinator in 20123 Eric was born on August 15th 1969 in New Orleans Louis Louisiana he was the youngest of four children of Eric senior a truck driver and Verline Bay anami a nurse he grew up in a poor neighborhood that was plagued by drugs and violence he later moved with his family to Hollywood California in 1979 and then to West Kina California in 1980 he attended Bishop Amad Memorial High School in LA pente California where he excelled in football and track and field he rushed for 2002 yards and 30 touchdowns as a junior and 2,29 yards and 30 touchdowns as a senior he led his team to two League titles and a state championship appearance he also ran the 100 meter dash in 10.5 seconds and the 200 M Dash in 21.4 seconds he earned second Team all America honors as a senior in 1986 and was recruited by several major college programs about Eric personal life Eric married Mia Sims in 1999 and they have two sons Eric 3 and Elijah Eric is a devout Christian and credits his faith for helping him overcome his personal and professional challenges he is also involved in various charitable and community activities such as mentoring young athletes and supporting cancer research he has faced some legal troubles in his life such as driving Under the Influence physical altercation and speeding but he has expressed remorse and and learned from his mistakes about Eric college career Eric chose to play college football at Colorado where he became one of the greatest players in school history he played for the Buffalo from 1987 to 1990 and was part of the team that won the National Championship in 1990 he was a three-time first team all big eight selection and a unanimous All-American in 1990 he was also the big eight offensive player of the year and the runnerup for the Walter Camp award board in 1990 he finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting behind Ty dmer and ragab ismile he set the school records for career rushing yards 3,940 rushing touchdowns 42 and allpurpose yards 4,351 he was inducted into the Colorado Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010 about Eric professional career Eric was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the second round of the 1991 NFL draft he played for the Chargers from 1991 to 1994 mostly as a backup and a special teamer he had his best season in 1992 when he rushed for 569 yards and four touchdowns he also returned kickoffs and punts for the Chargers he signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as a free agent in 1995 and played for them until 1998 he had a career high 800 105 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns in 1995 he joined the Philadelphia Eagles in 1999 and played his final season with them he retired after nine seasons in the NFL with 1, 1589 rushing yards 1,223 receiving yards and 12 total touchdowns about Eric coaching career Eric began his coaching career in 2000 as an assistant coach at Thomas Jefferson High School in Denver Colorado he returned to his Alma moer in 2001 and became the running backs coach for Colorado he coached there until 2002 and helped develop players such as Chris Brown and Bobby Purify he then moved to UCLA in 2003 and served as the running backs coach until 2005 he added the title of recruiting coordinator in 2005 and helped bring in talents such as Maurice Jones Drew and khil Bell he left UCLA in 2006 and joined the Minnesota Vikings as the running backs coach he worked with the Vikings until 2010 and was instrumental in the development of Adrien Peterson who became one of the best running backs in NFL history he also served as the assistant head coach in 2010 he returned to Colorado in 2011 and became the offensive coordinator and running backs coach he coached there for two seasons and oversaw an offense that featured players such as Rodney Stewart and Paul Richardson he left Colorado in 2013 and joined the Kansas City Chiefs as the running back's coach he worked Under head coach Andy Reid and helped the Chiefs become one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL he coached players such as Jamal Charles Spencer wear Kareem hunt and Damen Williams he was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2018 and became the primary play caller for the Chiefs he worked closely with quarterback Patrick Mahomes who won the MVP award in 2018 and the Super Bowl MVP award in 2019 he helped the Chiefs win back-to-back Super Bowls in 2019 and 2020 becoming the first African-American offensive coordinator to do so he was widely regarded as one of the top head coaching candidates in the NFL but he did not receive any offers he left the Chiefs in 2023 and on February 17 2023 he signed a 2-year contract with the Washington commanders to be their assistant head coach and offensive coordinator he was given full play calling duties something he shared under Chief's hit coach Andy Reid at the conclusion of his first season with Washington the commanders finished with a 4 to13 record securing them the
