welcome to San Marcos Texas home of the Texas State Bobcat a place widely known as one of the continuously inhabitant sites in America and we expect our crowd to continually inhabit and make their presence known in this game there's just something about the night cap after a day of wall toall football it just seems this is when chaos ensues as we'll see a squad from the Big 12 the Arizona State sundevil taking on a team from the Sunbelt the Texas state podcast for EA Sports college football Reese Davis with you alongside David poock and Jesse Palmer time to get this game started and the sundevils will boot it away to start the game from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position able to find enough room to get it out across the 25 he's brought down at the 26 so the Texas state popcats offense takes the field for the first time today and they're let out there by a man who will carry the ball plenty in this one guys well it's real simple he's the best player on their team they have got to force feed this guy the football David no doubt about it the offense goes through him excited to see how they built this offense and how many different ways they can get him touches well man there's some big hitting going on in the trenches right now this defense they take a lot of pride in stopping the Run let's keep our eye on them throughout the course of the game and see if they can contain this running attack and the Bobcats want to move [Applause] quickly they'll ride the running back and leave it with him he's got a yard out to the 30 yd line they're strong and they're strong defensive tackles they're strong there's such big jokers in the Middle where they just lock out those offensive lineman and running backs listen they don't have much of a chance when you got that 300 plus pound guy grabbing you around on the shoulder pad you tend to go to the ground pretty quickly looking lefts it in they've got it to the 49 yd line and they'll move the chain when you're a playmaker like this guy is your coaches are going to dial up plays intended for you especially on third down that's what you saw in that last play there was no question where the quarterback was going with that football all week long they decided on the biggest Downs of this game we're going to Target our best player and we're going to make make sure that he gets looks it doesn't matter what the coverage is and you saw it right there on that play and that pass picked off and he's wrapped up after a solid return on the pick so now the offense is going to have to regroup a turnover on the first drive of the game can bruise that confidence a little bit no doubt about it it's so hard as an offense to create any momentum and get any confidence early when you turn it over at this juncture in the the game you're just trying to kind of feel out this defense and you're formating them and you're trying different play calls to set things up for later but when you turn it over on the first drive it's hard to get that momentum style fires to the wide out got him downfield that is exactly what you're looking for when you talk explosive plays the defense finally able to make the stop man if I'm a defense I got to find a way to get some more pressure on the quarterback or disrupt their timing and their Rhythm I can't give them these big chunk plays through the air I got to be maybe a little bit more aggressive or do something a little bit different now the chance to pay off that big play from just outside the five he bullies his way all the way down to the 5 yd [Applause] line now the offense tries to punch it in on second and goal the run up the middle here looking for a path to the endzone and he takes it to the house touchdown Arizona State Precision blocking up front created the open Lane and the running back followed it beautifully yeah I it's pretty easy to follow an offensive line that makes those holes and just gives you a caravan all the way to the end zone what an unbelievable job blocking up front P unit on the field the extra point and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game quick strike offense on that three playay scoring drive and they punctuated it with the 5yd touchdown run Z kickoff team has the ball teed up and they're about ready to [Applause] go from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 Texas state gets the football back and here comes the offense he looks that one in nicely they get him down after he Mak again it's early in the game and as offenses try to get their Rhythm these easy completions are very important because that's what helps you get your feet underneath you as an offense and as a unit and hopefully as this game goes on they'll be able to rev up and get more aggressive taking shots off the play fake he's got an open man and they finally came down but not before he's got him set up for business at the 49 yd line one of the things that makes this guy so dangerous is how good he is after the catch if he's got any space around him he's able to burst he's able to make people miss and get extra yards for his offense you saw it right [Applause] there wants to throw on first down off the play fake he unleashes a long one and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would would have been a huge game if he could have held on you don't get a lot of chances like that in games guys take shots down field and when you get open you got to finish the play and the wide out's going to wish he had that one back wonder if they'll throw it again after the incompletion second and 10 from the 49 out of the gun they give to the back a pick up of eight now to convert this third and two listen you you got to be able to know what play to call and what hole to go through the line blocks for a certain hole good job getting through the hole getting what was blocked getting a nice positive gain making your situation really good on the next down the Bobcats are in the hurry up he'll keep it himself and there were some cisions in there and the D finally stops him short of the marker you know this offensive line they just got hold their blocks a little bit longer this offense likes to run their quarterback on designed plays and if you can just give him a little crease he can take it the distance but they couldn't get it done there and they'll Pat the kicker on the tail and tell him to go give it a and the holder it's a fake Shuffle it to the tight end and the gamble pays off as they pick up the first down [Music] and the Bobcats are marching down the field he'll come out throwing on first down strong pass rush gets to the quarterback and they get him at the 46 brings up second down his Drive facing a little adversity now after that last play it's second and 20 he'll do it himself nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the car how about the defensive end understanding football understanding that I got to keep outside contained I'm responsible for the quarterback good job playing his responsibility and how about getting that sucker on the ground he's a pretty good athlete to be able to Corral him tackle him right in the middle of the field and get him to the ground on Third and long you'll need to push it down field working that left side now you got to love that on defense one of the most critical statistics out there is how do you play on third down how do you prevent the opponent from keeping drives right there tackling the catch he gave up the completion whoopy Doo you set up fourth and long you're going to get the ball back go get some water and sell the Bobcats will call on their punt team he ought to be able to use this first punt to pin him deep able to keep them from getting a return and the ball goes out of bounds they're going to mark it right around the 20 Arizona state has the ball back and the offense making its way onto the field defense there to stop him after a gain of one to the 22 and these defensive tackles just eat people they swallow human beings when you get here they're so big so strong those guys those running backs coming they just need a mid they put one mid on a running back and he usually falls to the ground just because their sheer mass and strength wants to fire on second down throws to the wide out he's got it they get it out to the 36 and on the move after a pick up of 15 had a really good job by the quarterback being very decisive he saw his matchup he went for it he attacked it got the positive gain I would say he's going to find that guy a few more times today they've got it at the 36 it's a first and 10 the give to the lone running back I'll tell you this is a running back who's very very dangerous and the defense did a good job getting him down there but you got to do a great job game tackling is this is a guy that can break tackles and turn those types of plays into home runs got three on first down and second and [Applause] [Music] seven trying play action Myers to the middle got his man downfield and the tackle was made but not before that completion gets him 30 plus a big gain there as they did a tremendous job working the middle of the field yeah and if you're going to complete that throw Reese quarterbacks have got to play with anticipation you've got to get it out of your hands early and give your receiver an opportunity before the defense gets to the [Applause] ball incomplete man he liky to get that one back defense that close to an inter there's so much for a quarterback to think about stick it out of the belly do I pull it now when i p P oh I got to get my feet set make an accurate throw to the right guy so a lot of things going on I think that you saw that led to a little bit of inaccuracy didn't connect last time let's see if they throw it again on second down give to the running back they get him off his feet after a pick up of five down to the 25 I think you run that play So you're stay out of third and long third and long is not where an offense ever wants to drive third and medium hey I'm good with that so you run that play to make sure you're set up real good now balls at the 25 they're in field goal range but they love to convert this third and short working the middle of the field and it's complete they make the stop but the sweet throwing catches plenty to give him a first down how many first downs is that just on this drive we're going to have to get the training staff to to give some IVs and get some bananas and we better stay hydrated because at this rate the defense is going to play way too many snaps give to the back and he finds Some solid space makes a nice game before the defense is able to stop it keep pounding away at this defense and make them play the run if you can get this many a chunk they're going to have to commit more guys to the Box more guys to the run then you open it up for the passing going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down he's looking to throw got it and he will score touchdown suil a methodical drive that they finish off by tossing it to the tight end and the tight end I tell you what this is a position that's evolved so much right and you see him move all over the field it's kind of like Where is Waldo you got to find this big fella especially down in the Red Zone area this is the guy they're going to Target and make the big play get the touchdown lining up for the p on for the extra point and the extra point makes it 14 nothing they March 79 yds on the drive and they close the deal with the seven Y for the score about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown kick away and he takes this from inside the five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 first and 10 got the quick completion and that corner came in hot despite knowing that he was giving up some sides must be nice for this quarterback knowing he's got this type of athlete playing the tight end position that can work the middle of the field form he's a guy who can stretch it vertically as well but this is a guy the QB will look for early and often in this [Applause] game quarterback on the keeper a strong tackle and wrap up from the Junior that's the end of the quarter and Arizona state has the lead they wanted to strike first and strike hard and they've been able to do that here in the first quarter as we take a look at the stats now the challenge here they've taken a punch but they can't let it get out of hand as we start the [Applause] second it's a off he's brought down but not before they pick up the big first down and here we go if you're an offense you got to get that ground game going so you can have some balance and then you give it to your quarterback Palmer and let him make some plays down the field later on yeah exactly and know coming into this game this offense knew they were going to have to some way somehow at least establish the semblance of a running game for exactly what you just said you got to be able to use play action pass later in this game to get some explosive plays down the field and it's a play like that that we just saw which can help them get that small game I know but again the defense knows he's going to run the football he's willing to run the football not just drop back and pass make him on of the Run game you got to do a lot of this and the bobcast headed quickly to the [Applause] line running to the left they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one I'll tell you this defensive end not only can he pass rush but he can play the run as well you see him beat the offensive lineman there trying to block him and getting the Back Field to make that tackle for loss that was impressive they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this [Applause] one now they'll run the draw and they he did not let him reach the line gain it'll bring up a decision here [Applause] upth the Bob catch decide to punt it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it [Applause] away not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch Arizona state is going back on offense and they come out looking for a spark they'll run the RPO and throw it right he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see way that's going to go so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty looking for a productive play on first down power football with the Run picks his way ahead he'll get five out the 17 yd line it's going to be important this offensive line is able to get a little bit of push just got to give this guy an inch a little crease and he can make yards for this offense has a second down play he's looking to throw they're trying to get to it that pass is incomplete and they're probably fortunate that it wasn't knock three for a fumble doesn't take this defense a lot of time to get to the quarterback man they've got speed all over the place they hit him so quickly and because of that the ball Falls incomplete third and 10 still backed up inside their own 20 this drive hasn't really gotten started from the gun wants to pass working that left side and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play that is going to drive this defensive coordinator a lot of DCs they focus a ton of energy on how their unit performs on third down and in the Red Zone if this defense gives up a couple more third down conversions like that they're going to be in for a very unpleasant film session on [Applause] Monday trying to find his man on first down and it just squirted through his hands he wanted to take off and got too anxious back had exactly what he wanted there he had his big fella working the middle of the field you thought that was going to be an easy pitch and catch not so much it's a mental error by the tight end they got to clean that up couldn't make the connection on first down now here on second they keep attacking through the air finds his tight end and he goes out of bounds after coming up with positive yardage there I like this tight end he does a really nice job on his route run he's beating man coverage he can find the soft spots and zones got to get him involved here they come facing third and long from the 40 from the gun wants to pass wide open down field defense caught out of position and they get him down finally at the 38 third down offenses have their plays what they like in third and short what they like third and medium third and long great job by the offense having success now it's incumbent upon the defense to learn their plays and try to shut it down throughout the game BS and throws off the RPO this quarterback right now is improved he's doing a nice job increasing he's reading the coverage and he's getting an idea of where he wants to go with the football that's why the ball's coming out of his hands so quickly that's why he seems like he's in a great with offense gets set for second down off play action unloads to the wide out and he just overshot his man and BW it out of bounds incomplete third [Music] down that lasting complete pass has him staring at a third and three they turn to the passing game on Third and short and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down yeah third and short that choose not to run throw the football and I think a lot of that has to do they know they're in field goal range they can take the three points on the board and on fourth down they'll try to salvage the drive with a field goal he's going to try to knock one through from 49 yards away never a doubt for this bigf footed guy 49 yd field goal is good State 1 Texas state [Music] [Applause] they're really starting to extend that lead as they get ready to kick it away again on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverfor unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Texas state has the football back and they'll go on offense they just haven't been able to get anything going and they better get started or it's going to get away from them David yeah and these are the weeks that you really wish that you were playing the video game and you could just reset the console start over Jesse and make something better happen ear they just look like they're sleepwalking in this first half and it's not just one guy they they just haven't been playing collectively as a unit and if I'm the head coach I'm considering starting to give some other dudes some chances here [Applause] with Jet Sweep pass not a whole lot of room there three yards maybe second and seven well and on these little push passes timing is so important trying to snap it right as he's getting a full head of steam when he gets the ball he's hit in the outside and David it puts the defense in such a difficult spot you you immediately have to be rotating when you see that motion so everybody's got to communicate and kind of bump over that's why offenses love to run it just it makes the defense communicate and see if you can just get him out of a spot turns it on in Midfield nice pick up there gets him the first down and sets him up at the 45 yd line I tell you what two more runs like that in defensively you start thinking more guys in the Box more big guys I better stop this guy cuz he's unbelievable just a great job breaking off the big run and the OC is going to give him the ball some [Applause] mov comes out throwing on first down how about that play to get a hand in there and for the incompletion excellent job on the DB breaking on the football getting there and making sure he gets a hand on it def Flex listen it's not about catching it it's not about getting the interception it's making sure he does doesn't catch it and deflecting that thing where he can't get it after the misfire now on second down the give on the inside pick up of five it'll be third down and five I like the Poise by the quarterback on that play too because a lot of times as a quarterback you see the blitz coming and immediately you want to audible you want to try to throw the ball but he knew that he had a good run play called and he knew he could leave it on heads up play by the QB and the Top Cats want to crank the tempo from the gun they'll give it on the inside and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this no gain land keep the foot on the pedal if you're on offense here you got that yardage yeah you didn't get the first down but you've set yourself up now to go for it here and keep this drive alive and they're running out the kicker to give it a try he's going to have to break out the thunderfoot on this one a 57 yd attempt and he's got it from 57 what a beauty the that K just showed off his hammer for a leg 50 plus and he did it with [Music] ease so they Ling up to kick it off after that last Drive put a three spot on the board and now the defense will try to shut him down he'll bring it back from inside his five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 Arizona state has the ball back and the offense making its way onto the field P finds his man on the way and just a short safe pass play they pick up of here that's great timing by the quarterback on that out route if you're going to be running that against man coverage like they were there that ball has to be thrown early and it's got to be thrown out in front of the receiver and they execute it perfect got a little work done on first down now back to the line the playaction fake and he's all bottled up and now it's worse the ball's loose it's as if that ball had a magnet going back to the offense how in the world did they keep it that ball carrier is very lucky that EAS easily could have ended up in the hands of the defense you have got to do a better job with ball [Music] security as we reach the two-minute warning they'll need to try to get a stop to keep this thing from getting out of [Music] hand you make up the game plan and not a lot on the play sheet for this third and long from inside their own 20 looking for room it's scabo they sto him after a short game probably just wanted to mitigate the losses with fourth down coming there's a Timeout on the field type game here late in the first half the sundevils will send out the punt [Applause] unit on the return it's Wilson the solid return there offset some of the pun yardage really sets up this offense nicely Texas state gets the football back and here comes the offense not a lot of time left here in the half let's see if they can cut into this lead and this drive isn't a must score but man you look at the scoreboard with now two scores Jess you got to good opportunity create some momentum cut it to a onore game this is an important possession yeah it's important to create that momentum now David two and not wait to get it going here at the start of the third quarter you got one drive here to get a couple of points you got to start racing and chipping away at this deficit this could be where the game turns right here they make the stop after the catch it's still some work to do to pick up that first down what we knew coming into this game this offense was going to try and get this receiver involved and get him involved early so here they are just finding an easy completion it's not a touchdown but they just want to get this guy lathered up and get him into a r back to pass it's McLoud going for it all and it's incomplete as he tried to thread that needle to the back corner of the end zone and that's just a huge Miss opportunity on offense QB missed his guy wide open in the end zone you might not get another clean look like of this game that last incomplete pass has him staring at a third and three he'll throw on third down looking for the score fires into traffic it's it's picked off and he's brought down after the pick not before putting his offense in business this is obviously not a great start for this quarterback here two interceptions already in this game he's got to do a much better job with his decision making Arizona state is going back on offense and they come out looking for a spark they've got time they've got the lead and David is sort of like a doctor first Do no harm you know hard but also is hard to create sometimes hard to stop you have it so Jesse don't do anything stupid to create some momentum for the other side I think a lot of this comes down to your quarterback and whether or not he's making good decisions in this game if yes be aggressive if not let's just take the lead into halftime and get ready for the second half couldn't fight his way out of his grab quick timeout by the defense here trying to make sure everyone has the same call I just do a great job on the defense being right that's your job be Stout up front stuff in the Run play make them get in more passing situations but do not let them run the football that's 101 stop the run first and the defense knew exactly where that first down line was and they stopped him short and the sundevils will bring the punt team onto the field this will be the second time they've had to kick it away he gets it away from his own end zone looking for a block it's Wilson that Nifty return sets up the offense and the gates some of the yardage on the punt Texas state has the football back and they'll go on offense they're already in field goal range but Jesse they want to be aggressive but they can't take a negative play the play caller has got to look up and down and Sheet here to find a shot to the end zone David be aggressive and see if you can get a touchdown late while knowing that I've got three in my back pocket Don't Force the ball into a bad situation but we're definitely trying to get a touchdown and after the incompletion on first down this offense looking at second down dropping back it's McLoud he'll take a shot and he got a hand on it to knock it down in the end zonee oh man the quarterback almost just threw his second interception on his many drives he's trying to fit that football in there it gets tipped up in the air he's lucky that wasn't picked off just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime on Third and long trying to have a big completion here couldn't find a man and just had to throw it away to avoid a negative play nice job by the defense they're mixing up their look they're third and long in field goal range they go Zone coverage so everybody on the back and has the eye on the quarterback and they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion and they'll send the field goal team back out for the second time tonight from 55 y out and he's got it never a doubt how nice is it as a head coach to have the kicker like this it makes these decisions on fourth down so much easier just strut him out there and let him stroke through the uprights [Music] that late in the half field goal always gives you a little boost going to the locker room and they'll need to finish off these final few seconds and not allow them to answer from inside the 10 yd line he'll bring it back and the returner could find no daylight he goes down under a minute to play here in the first half and the offense will take a knee and that is how we'll wrap up the first half we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Conor in our halftime update guys it is hard to beat San Marcos when that town is buzzing as it is today and I get it a lot of coaches will say the difference between winning and losing comes down to stopping big plays and getting big plays but if you ask me it's more about how good you are on third down and how efficient you are in keeping drives alive those two stats can help you break the will of even the best defenses and help you come out on top and with that let's send it back to the fellas inside bob cat Stadium we are ready to get it started here in the second [Applause] half and he's coming out of the endzone that gamble did not pay off as they bring him down at the 12 yd line Arizona state has the ball back and the offense making its way onto the field they got plenty done through the air in the first half and we'll see if they even need to look for balance as we start the third quarter well and I I don't think defensively you understand like the running game isn't a big part of the plan I wonder how they adjust and play more coverage to this pass happy offense yeah so you're going to have to be ready if you're a quarterback then you're probably going to see some different coverages you might see a little bit more Blitz in the second half as well so you have to know where your answers are [Applause] from the shotgun the hand off to the back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one awesome job up front by this defensive line being so good at the point of attack and eating blocks eating some double teams that allows these linebackers to run free unencumbered and get to the football so third and short from inside the 20 you conferred here and this drive takes on a different complexion keeps the legs moving gets the job done on third down as he gets it out to the 25 well there we go we finally see some life in this offense running the football nice game to pick up the first down got to get more of that going moving forward because they have not run it well the sundevils will snap it on First and 10 touch pass on the Jet Sweep good pick up on that play it'll bring up second and four all right so not a home run play for the offense but I do like the creativity and I like how they're going to stress this defense and do it in less conventional ways picked up some yardage on the ground now here comes second [Applause] down he's looking to throw and that's going to be incomplete a lot of contact on the the play but no Flags it'll be third [Music] down trying to pick up a first [Music] down they'll snap it from the gun on third down caught near the sticks it's Smith solid work and execution there they'll have a first down as they mark it at the 40 you do that was coming he had to get rid of it in a hurry and he did so beautifully perfectly I don't need a big gain I don't need to hold on to this football because the longer I hold on to it with the blitz coming the worst things are going to happen I just need a few yards for the first down get it out of my hand get the first down he'll bull it on the read me feel he's got room and he found plenty of Running Room on that one before the defense was finally able to get him down well this is one of the fastest quarterb in college football and that's why the option's a good idea because if he can get out in space and he has a chance to get down field he is really difficult to tackle and he's very difficult to catch as you saw in that last play getting a first down out of the gun they'll side the carrier second didn't get much on first down it's second and nine the give to the back and he has a solid gain before the defense bottles him up I think you run that play on second down knowing it's going to make Third Down Easy you're not trying to hit a home run you don't need the big play right now now you know third down everything's on the table everything's available High success right they're trying to extend this ready long drive the ninth play is a third and three they try to pop a run on the draw they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and you try to sneak this in it right third down kind of manageable situation not too far not too short where maybe I can throw the football but I sneaked that draw and their defense said no sir I'm ready for that stuff some on the third and the Sun Devils will try to pin them back with the punt and the ball will bounce at the four and find its way into the end zone for a Touchback Texas state gets the football back and here comes the offense you want to talk about having a weapon to bail out a drive David that's why kickers are so important after that long field and listen important is a relative term we need to make longer passes and get better gains so we don't have to kick long field goals Palmer again on offense and they've got the weapons to do that David they just got to be able to dial those plays up guys have to be able to make them oneon-one to make life easier on this kicker who is so important to this team he's really close to that first down marker but they sto him just a bit short I say this man in college football you see a lot of bad tackling you didn't see it right there that was an awesome job first off being there at the point of attack once the tight end made the catch there was no doubt he was going down great job form tackle the Bobcats will hustle to the [Applause] line on the option he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three loses three now a fourth down and the Bobcats will line up to it away kick [Applause] it not going to risk a return here calls for the fair Catch and makes it just around the 30 yd line Arizona state is going back on offense and they come out looking for a spark not a lot of daylight he gets one to the 32 didn't get much on first down it's second and nine now the play fake he lobs one high down the left side caught at the 25 and he's brought down after a huge completion you know there's a lot of communication when it comes to defenses like you have to talk to understand if somebody does this I have to do this I have to pass off wide receivers apparently some the communication was busted they just changed the dynamic of this possession in a heartbeat and now it's first and 10 from inside the Red Zone the give to the left and this one will be stopped for no game that's a great individual play and I love cornerbacks that don't just take pride in covering guys I like guys like to put their face in the fan and affect the running game this dude is physical and he impacts the defense because of and those guys are really hard to find a lot of Corners are smaller they don't want any part of a physical run game nice job sticking his face in there setting the edge making the tackle give him about a yard on the play is down at the 10 third [Music] down they'd love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and goal on Third and long he has to throw for it they're bringing heat and he can't escape and down he goes and that is a great job by the defense contain in and constricting the pocket there was nowhere for the QB to go and he did not have a lot of time he went down quick and here comes the field goal unit for the second time tonight he's already put three on the board earlier this time a 38 yd try it is perfect and that will extend their lead even further Texas [Music] [Music] after putting up a three spot the kickoff unit set to go to advance on the football on the run from inside his own five just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 Texas state has the football back and they'll go on offense now we'll get a chance to see if they can answer that last score trailing by 14 Jesse Yeah and at this point of the game I feel like all kinds of Running Room the defense got caught that time and they finally get him on the ground for 41 I love that play call this offense is going to run the football they're not just going to do it but wi the tackles but they're going to attack you outside you saw that with that handoff they get to the right they get him in space using his speed good play call [Applause] he'll keep it himself oh the ball squirts out defense just cradling that fumble and securing it and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for its own and I absolutely love the option but this is part of it right the quarterback has to make a lot of reads really quickly and then carry the football and take care of that thing so I think you know the fumble was caused there we don't know why but this is part of the option risk you run by running Arizona state has the ball back and the offense making its way onto the field he'll do it himself finding a way to put that foot in the ground and get it up to the 37 yd line you're a defensive guy and you want to fire in hit the quarterback but you know if I fire in he's just going to give the football up you got to be patient you got to understand what your responsibility is then you see when he keeps the football you got to go tag him the problem is these guys are such good athletes they're so hard to catch once they do pull the football but it's kind of like the hidden hat trick you know where's the ball it's underneath this one no I picked this one up no it's gone it's underneath this one NOP there it is it's gone I love the idea and I love just finding ways to get your best players out in the open field this pre- snap motion and using it to their advantage on that last play I think that was a nice call the offense getting set for a first down from the 45 from the gun they'll try to impose their running game they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one well the offensive mind that everybody blocked except the defensive end he was able to sneak into the back field and attack long one on that last one it's second and 11 they go to the ground and he'll find enough Running Room to get it just short of Midfield at the 49 third and you want to talk about his favorite receiver it might be everybody based on the number of guys getting touches and a chance to show off their hands in the passing [Music] game as we start the fourth quarter it'll take a pretty sizable comeb back to win this one quarterback empties his back field from the gun on third down fires to the wide out complete downfield good solid pick up there now they can start to smell it with a first down at the 31 well I love play calls that want to stay aggressive regardless of what the score is regardless how much time is left on the clock and I promise you this there are a lot of fans there are a lot of teams all across college football that are paying attention to what is happening right now [Applause] wide out in motion looking to go up top on first down gets it out fast this offense is not letting up guys they've got a lead here late and they are still taking shots they're still looking for explosive plays this defense just has not had an answer here all game [Music] long his offense has done a good job on this drive taking time up the clock that they come up on second down they'll Run play action tremendous awareness along the sideline and the ability to get the foot down for the big pickup he's been so locked in it seems like any pass called is a guaranteed chunk play yeah and and winning late like this in the ball game keep trusting and keep spin it you know why because stats matter late in the game you want some postseason Awards keep chucking in keep getting those stats Powers through the defender he'll be brought down at the 5 yd line and this defense is on it heels I think you have to like what you see you're the coaching staff here your offense is on the field and it looks like you got a pretty good drive going and you're just going to try and keep this thing marching keep the clock ticking you've got a really nice lead here late just want to find ways to keep the chains moving they're doing that the give to the back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one it's going to be tough sledding for the offense here they're trying to ice this game by running the football and leading the clock they've got a pretty good lead here late in the game the defense knows the run's coming right so they're going to be loading the line of scrimmage getting stops like what they just did be interesting to see what the offense does on this next one they'll throw on Third and short makes to R and he will score touchdown Arizona State AR salt inter wound right late in the fourth quarter you can run the football run this game out no sir I'm going to continue to pad my stats find my receiver out wide and give me another touchdown they'll try to add another to their lead [Applause] exra and the extra point split and they're up a full three touchdowns a 21 Point cushion in the four they're just about ready to kick it away number 27 set to kick it off here's the return from inside is 10 really disciplined job by the cage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Texas state gets the football back and here comes the offense he wants to start this drive with a pass all kinds of room to throw that one in there the offense is struggled they're not going to win this game but trust me his coaching staff is still trying to find things to build off of for next week and after an explosive play like that maybe they can generate just a little bit of momentum and gain a little bit of confidence that they can keep coaching up heading into their next game the give from the gun at the 45 on it way they ripped off a big one and they get it down to the 27 Big H mes up front big offensive line a the way for a big first down the Bobcats in the hurry up going up top on first down and this will be incomplete a big hit there for second down it's really hard to win football games when you're onedimensional offensively and that's the case they just have not been able to get anything going throwing it deep down the field they haven't won their one-on-one match matchups quarterback has missed some throws and as a result in the fourth quarter they barely have 100 yds passing and that's why they're losing from the gun the running back tries to hit the hole and a nice job by the running back finding space getting downhill making the good run great job finishing with these PS ball is at the 20 they'll try to convert this third and [Applause] short they'll try to pick up the first through the air makes the grab makes a catch with Defenders everywhere and now the defense backed up with a first and goal from the five well a field goal kicker can step away from the net and go sit down grab some water they're might they're not going to need him just quite yet that was a great play call throwing the ball on Third and short in field goal range they get the completion Now setting up first and [Applause] the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the D he worked his way ever closer all the way down to the one yd line it's now second and go second and goal for the offense [Applause] tries again to get it in Into The End Zone he goes touchdown bat this running back was not going to be denied nice blocking up front to create a hole for this running back and he was able to take advantage [Music] fining up to add [Music] [Applause] another splits the upright they put together an 81 yd drive and they capped it off with a one yd pun about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown [Applause] [Music] this here he comes from inside his own five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic that they get him on the ground at the 20 Arizona state is going back on offense and they come out looking for a spark the give to the back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and it's a great play by the defensive end the most athletic players on the field play defensive end Yes you heard J Reese exactly what I said great get off great job getting the Back Field making the play didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 he's looking to throw catch in the middle it's Smith and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pick up I think most offenses around the country in a situation like this with the lead late would be trying to run the football right or throw it short and try to bleed the clock but this offense man it's still pedal to the metal they're looking for chunk play opportunities and this Center Downs get started from the 33 first and 10 he's going to pass on target to the left hit the gas kid wide open ahead oh he thought for sure he was going to be able to house that one but a huge pick up all the way down to the 12 defense just has had an answer for this guy he has been on point this is about as good as I've seen him play at the quarterback position and here in the fourth quarter with the big lead he's still taking shots the sundevils moving quickly to the line [Applause] they keep it on the ground clock is their friend and the defense holds fir no pick up at all on that play and I can't tell you how much I love seeing quarters being willing to come up and tackle that is so huge for a defense you can't Olay blocks and create space you can't just hang out on the outside you got to go set that edge and conversely I can't tell you how much I hate it when receivers don't want to block you got to do a better job on the perimeter it's not going to be enough in this offense just to catch passes you got to go execute your assignment that corner should have been blocked they should have gotten a bigger gain on that outside [Music] Lev really need to pick up this conversion and avoid having to settle for the field goal on Third and short they'll try to pick it up with the pass and he's got it touchdown sundevils touch nice job on the route and catch by the tight ends scoring that touchdown and it doesn't matter what play this offense calls all game long everything has been working this has been a master class in offensive productivity on to attempt the try kicker on for the extra [Applause] point and the extra point splits the upright and they're up a full three tou touchdowns a 21o cushion in the fourth the kickoff unit about to go to work set to kick this one away he'll bring it out from inside his own 10 nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 next state has the football back and they'll go on offense throws to the wide out a beautifully placed ball to the outside and the tow drag for the big pick up know sometimes when you're throwing against Zone coverage any time for the routes to develop so nice job by the quarterback there being patient allowing his receivers to work themselves open that's the way to start a drive and now they'll try to follow up on First and 10 dropping back it's for cloud just had to get rid of that one good job to avoid the loss the offense came into this game knowing that for them to win they were going to have to make some big plays throwing the football that just has not been the case here in the fourth quarter they've been held to less than 200 passing yards and that's really the story of the game guys they'll spread the defense out going five wide on second and 10 they'll throw again after the incompletion unleashes one deep and swatted down by the def defense to stop the scoring opportunity and that's just the kind of game it's been for this quarterback in this offense you got a great game playing all week long you're watching it throughout practice you think you're going to have a chance to light up the scoreboard but they're just not able to hook up you got to give this defense a ton of credit they've done a great job in coverage they've been breaking on passes they've had their number and that's why they're leading by as much as they are pocket starts to collapse he'll try to do it himself Nifty little Scamper on this one enough for the first down and he slides in safely we reached the two-minute warning and we see miracles in college football all at the time and they could use one here and the Bobcats are flying down the field they'll throw it on first down finds his man it's Wilson he's all the way down to the 27 yd line and they are threatening quarterback and rece on the same page there on the crow route nice job by the receiver finding the soft spot in zone and just settling down making that throw a whole bunch easier trying to get everybody set with the clock still [Applause] running to the air on first down unloads to the wide out a strike downfield quick timeout call by the offense after the play trying to preserve every minute possible the Bobcats have it with a first and 10 he wants to throw it's complete to the left they'll Mark him down at the two the excellent execution on that throwing catch and listen the defense playing really conservative right you got the lead but here's what I'm trying to do I'm trying to get sacks I got to get to the quarterback like I got to make sure I'm getting him knocking him off the spot patting my stats by the way got a lot of sacks late in games and we had a big but that's okay that's what you're supposed to do keep competing [Applause] defense looking to throw it again snagged In The End Zone touchdown podcat in a nice touchdown continuing to fight Contin to play this one it's pretty much over down multiple possessions this late in the football game it would take a miracle but nice job by this offense continuing to fight push the ball down the field make play [Music] ready to try the point after is on for the extra point and it's up and good they marched 79 yds on the drive and it was finished off with a 2yd touchdown t they're definitely up against it time running out down two possessions they'll try the onside kick he's able to grab the football and the hands team gets the job done yeah and this is why you put your hands team on the field most of the time when you know it's coming and you put those guys that are great catchers in the football the first guys what do they do they go block they go blow somebody up the next guys catch the football secure it get your butt on the ground and most of the time when you do this the ball game is over quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 they'll try the run and it's loose they recover their own fumble how in the world the offense avoid that disaster timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible their work here is virtually done no need to take any more chances they'll line up in Victory formation and the sundevils line up to punt it [Applause] away able to keep them from getting a return and the ball goes out of bounds they're going to mark it right around the 20 first down here for the offense looking to move it through
