[Music] Joe schmi was a legendary American football player and Coach best known for his long association with the Detroit Lions born on January 19th 1932 Schmid played linebacker for the lions from 1953 to 1965 he became one of the most dominant defensive players of his era widely respected for his football intelligence leadership and high hitting play Schmid's career highlights include 10 Pro Bowl selections eight First Team all pro selections and two NFL championships with the Lions 1953 1957 he was also named NFL's most valuable lineman twice Beyond his playing career Schmid became the head coach of the lions from 1967 to 1972 earning a winning record and further solidifying his impact on the team in 1973 he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Schmidt's Legacy endures as one of the alltime greats in the NFL and he remained a beloved figure in Detroit sports history he passed away on September 11th 2024 at the age of 92 leaving the a rich Legacy in football history
