the way it currently stands forced labor slavery takes precedence over Rehabilitation and Public Safety gives reparations to everyone but free people look at the billions he has run over to Ukraine we don't have black grocery stores because if you think about it now just to get in that sub change it's almost unheard of they don't want the truth to get out I want to know what my family did or what all these people did on stuff like that okay you read that 500 page report there's this thing called White superiority and black inferiority that mindset allows all of the behaviors that we've seen across Generations it had no idea did that church I was running back every day was something my grandfather established this is not a handout this is a debt that is old you know allensworth was like the internet of his time in 1904 1905. the total black population in California is about 2.6 million and then of that The Descendants composed about 2.2 million of that so California with a multi-billion dollar Surplus can absolutely afford to satisfy the international terms for reparations beginning with conversation of any Financial obstacles that exists that impedes the success of increasing financial prosperity needs to be dealt with and eliminated no no matter where we've been no matter what part of this fight we've been in we've been and we've had harm done to us specifically when I got to Los Angeles this was some of the worst segregation I'd ever seen and remember I'm telling you I'm from Mississippi because as you can see I'm giving you broken history right now you know but but I had to give it to you guys today no I gotta show them this because it's so precious and nobody really knows about it overnight it's like oh we still know where the quarters now it's Lincoln Heights oh so now we get to use Abraham Lincoln for for our name and you think about all the other people because they're going to use but they picked Lincoln and I think that's sort of a stereotypical of what they they do that wasn't any black uh restaurant as far as black business and weeds it wasn't enough black people don't have that kind of luxury our our historically black communities have been um redistricted multiple times why has it been easier for other groups than us because of anti-block hatred now listen if you can't handle the TR rooms don't tune in go ahead and pre-order the reparations now documentary at reparationsnow.com that's reparationsnow.com available June 19th 2023 happy Juneteenth [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] Jonathan Burgess Jonathan last name Burgess b-u-r-g-e-s-s yeah no I'm a fifth generation California that I know of descendant of Rufus Burgess got brought to California as a slave families here doing the Gold Rush pioneers of California if you look at the book negro Cheryl Blazers the only man listed for the town of Columbus my great-grandfather so I'm here I'm uh some people say reparation is but I'm an activist for our people and transparency which is why I'm here having a conversation with you today cool oh yeah by the way man also in our documentary reparations now which is coming out soon to the people gonna don't want to give out too much or say juneteenth-ish but yeah it's going to be coming out so definitely appreciate man your effort in in our documentary as well so let's get to it brother sure because I know we need to get to it so I actually arrived a little later and I think Kim picked it up but can you explain from your opposition and situation what's going on with the NAACP right now yeah um the NAACP like every organization I started my comments with saying that you know a task force member to Maki stated and as black and Jewish Coalition that every organization had a hand in the demise of descendants of slaves or those blacks that were here in California prior to 1900. um that does not release the NAACP when I simply wanted was acknowledgment and potentially an apology from not just the local Sacramento Branch but the national chapter so that we can move forward in unity and understanding that the NAACP is an institution so I'm not blaming one particular person but when we as a people work for organizations that have harmed our people and we're unwilling to acknowledge it we're part of the problem all right so I mean what what is one of your Solutions uh that could possibly is it just an apology or is there anything else outside of well I mean the the the the the the first solution is acknowledgment so what's an apology you know secondly uh something specific you know for you know Pioneer descendants maybe my grandchildren one day you know um that were pioneers of this region I just haven't seen that you know from the NAACP specifically if I'm talking specifics to what happened to those Pioneer families in Coloma when the NAACP began selling land in the 70s and 80s to all white families um so that's the harm that I'm talking about specifically that helps set black people back and acknowledgment for that you know the money that they received because it was black land before it was taken seems like there should be something more um apology at the least since the state of California is looking to issue an apology I mean Gavin Newsom going to apologize for something that he had nothing to do in fact he wasn't even born in 1850 D so I don't see a problem with today's president of the NAACP whether it be local or national issuing an apology to those of us that descend from child slavery and those of us that were pioneers of this region that were harmed from some horrible people within their institution I'm not saying the institution as a whole is a bad thing I'm saying just like the state of California there were bad people in the institution and there were bad people within the NAACP that did bad things that hurt black people collectively and my issue is is members and leaders today still fail to acknowledge that that's my issue one two quick questions I'll let you get out of here brother so uh asked this question I interviewed the system named tamias in Stockton and I asked her because we have the report coming of the final report coming up so with the final report coming up uh one I just got to keep it real do you think black descendants are going to get reparations I'll just ask that first question black descendants will get reparations absolutely and two in tubes later um from my understanding that legislation shouldn't take but you know we should have legislation by February you know a corner of the conversation that Chris had um legislation should already be written if we got we that task force was made up of attorneys um highly educational Scholars so I wouldn't be shocked if some of the legislation or some of the recommendations were already somewhat drafted we actually to my recollection had two legislators on the on the task force Senator Bradford being one of them an assembly member Reggie Jones Sawyer being the other so uh to write or draft legislation should not take a long time considering the makeup of that task force with the scholars and education level that sat there we got to get you uh this is gonna be my first time on camera I got the Wonder Twin first Burgess brought us in building now I gotta ask this one quick question how do people differentiate between y'all like like you know it you just know it when you know it you know it yeah you just know when you know you know when you know yeah yeah yeah yeah all right Phil I'll just go ask you one quick now so um you know I asked Jonathan what you know how long do you think it will take for legislation to happen here so I'm going to ask you a little different question once we receive you know reparations what do you think that looks like for the black descendant community once we receive reparations um you know specifically it looks like um a day of Celebration because it's something that's never been done and specifically for black community of course I believe it's going to be cash payments of some sort there's also going to be housing and then you can have education and those things that are specifically but really what I'd like to see is just similar to what the Indians have right where we're able to build whether it's our casinos or teams or whatever we want to do and have um you know a uh a sense of community where we are within the government but we stand outside of it as well right maybe there's no taxes um the Indians aren't paying taxes and so the last time I checked for all the labor that we did I mean that's something that definitely should be uh in the package and I and I look forward to seeing it so yeah and just one more quick question to give us any updates on what's Happening who wants to answer that families property what's kind of going on with that right now yeah I know I mean the most recent update was just the article that MSNBC wrote at the Curtis fund an incredible job you know actually staying true to my words and not editing everything out um there should be a Washington uh Washington drone I think is in the coming out next week or so um so yeah that's just run his course and we're waiting on you know Gathering or the president you know and potentially the NAACP since all the documents are there purchase bro s
