True Love Tuesday- Jeff & Susan Bridges: The Sweetest Love Story Never Told💜

definitely when that makeup is cheap today is love Tuesday and we are talking about probably one of the sweetest couples I have discovered so far we're talking about Jeff and Susan Bridges such a good dive in to today's video by now we are well aware that I am a complete and total sucker for a good love story and y'all this one just checks all of the boxes there is love at first sight there's a little bit of a Chase there's Grand gestures tiny bit of drama sprinkled in for good measure it has everything this is probably one of the sweetest love stories I've discovered so far and I say discovered cuz I've never heard anybody else talk about it now I did see one or two videos over on Tik Tok which is what gave me the idea for today's video but when I went and I started researching and really sused out the entire story every factoid I learned just made me love them as a couple more and more and more their partnership has survived long distance it's survived Fame Parenthood uh I mean Health crisis they've pretty much been through the ringer and somehow have come out the other side still in their honeymoon phase it's pretty mind-blowing guys they start off in a teeny tiny town in Montana and somehow someway they become one of the longest lasting Hollywood wood relationships I've spoken about to date as always if you see me looking over in this direction it is because I am looking at my notes I have about nine pages for today's story so it should be pretty short and sweet but you never know I like to sit here and talk so just in case sit back relax get comfy get cozy get you a big old glass of something to drink and let's go ahead and Dive Right In Jeffrey was born Jeffrey Leon bridges on December 4th 19 49 he's approximately 77 years old and was born and bred in Sunny Los Angeles California now he was born into a fairly prominent acting family both of his parents were entertainers not necessarily a-listers but solidly beist for sure uh his father was Leon Bridges and then his mother was Dorothy Dean Simpson now he also has three siblings he's got an older brother named Bo he's the kind of actor that she would re recognize him if you saw him he's nowhere near as famous as Jeff but he's got a little bit of success under his belt he's got a younger sister named Lucinda who very much stayed out of the spotlight and then he also had one more older brother who was born just a year before Jeff was unfortunately he passed away at just a couple of months old from SIDS now Jeff's birth definitely came with the silent expectation that he would go on to Hollywood and make a name for himself his parents 100% expected both Jeff and his brother Bo to move into Hollywood and become famous actors follow in the family footsteps so to speak and of course they did knowing the expectations that Jeff's parents had for him it comes as no shock that by the time he was 3 years old he was already building a portfolio they put that little boy to work uh I think by the time he was three he had already started alongside his mother and the company she keeps that was in 1951 he then starred in a couple of episodes of his father's television series Sea Hunt Floyd and Dorothy Dean were both incredibly dedicated to their professions and because of that they spent a lot of time away from their children now unfortunately for Bo and Jeff and Lucinda they spent a lot of time either on their own or being raised by the nannies uh when their parents were off touring doing shows of course they couldn't go with them and because of that uh bo and Jeff got very very close I think that Lucinda kind of was a little bit closer to the nannies things like that but Bo and Jeff got very very close Bo got to a certain point where he was actually taking on a very fatherly role to Jeff while their parents were away this lack of Parental Guidance really had a very large effect on Jeff and the way that he behaved now by the time Jeff was 14 he was already a pretty experienced actor uh he had already been on tour with his father in a Stage production of The Anniversary Waltz for months at a time he was working with his mom on different movies things like that but when he wasn't on tour or when he wasn't working he was getting into some serious trouble by the time he was 15 or 16 he was already on his way to becoming an alcoholic he was already using uh Mary Jane like he was using uh drugs things like that just was not was not headed down a very good path Jeff would continue to experiment with drugs and alcohol throughout the duration of his teens until he was about 19 20 years old this is when his parents kind of smartened up got wise to what exactly it was that he was doing and staged a little bit of an intervention they told Jeff he either got cleaned up and dried himself out or they were going to kick him out of the house and again he's only 19 20 years old that's kind of terrifying for anybody so of course he kind of like starts to fly right he starts to get his act together just a little bit and this is when he really starts focusing on his own career instead of just kind of piggybacking off of his parents he recovered from his addictions and began furthering his career by appearing as a younger version of his father in the made for TV movie Silent Night lonely night in 1969 After High School Jeff moved across the country pretty much to get out from under the watchful eyes of his parents because they had kind of been keeping a pretty close eye on him up to that point so he's like Deuces I got to get out of here he packs his bags he moves all the way out to New York City just to try to find a life of his own and really just start building his own career uh separate and apart from his parents by this point the world is changing and it is changing in a very very big way the Vietnam war is in full effect by this point and Jeff is starting to hear rumors of a draft and this genuinely terrifies him not only is it scary thinking about going over and fighting in a war but also is going to put a very large kink in his plans for his career so Jeff starts to try to get a little bit resourceful trying to figure out how he can maybe avoid the draft and he finds out that if you're in the reserves you don't get drafted so Jeff goes and he signs up for the United States Coast Guard and becomes a reserve member Jeff continues to be in the reserves until 1975 when his term of service has ended and by that point he is honorably discharged chared and no longer has to worry about being drafted things like that I think 1975 was the same year that the Vietnam War ended so by that point he had nothing else to worry about Jeff's breakthrough role came in 1971 when he was cast as Dwayne Jackson in The Last Picture Show this role would kind of set the tone for the roles that he would take on for the rest of his career kind of like this laidback Sly Charming kind of guy that kind of thing also earned him his first Oscar nomination next up Jeff was cast in the movie Fat City that was the next year in 72 in this movie he played again a very Charming kind of laidback cool dude boxer and in this movie is where he meets his first kind of love interest but we'll get into that in just a minute uh after that in '94 he came and starred with Clint Eastwood in Thunderbolt and Lightfoot that was a big one for him kind of made him a household name Jeff had showed that he had leading man potential and got to prove it the next year when he was cast as the lead in the film brancho Deluxe now Jeff has made his career by owning his casual Carefree handsomeness with like this Perpetual slide charm that kind of thing there's just something about Jeff Bridges that puts you at ease and it comes across on film he is well known for his laid-back personality and a versatility on screen that is nearly unmatched by anyone else in Hollywood in my opinion Jeff is such an underrated actor I feel like he can pretty much do any an everything which makes him so fantastic to watch on screen some of my very favorite Jeff Bridges movies include first and foremost we have starm man he did that in '84 and it's one of my very favorite movies he's ever been in I just love that movie so so much I cry every single time I've watched it if you've not watched it definitely go check it out it is a very very old movie but totally worth watching you also have the fabulous bigger boys you have True Grit the fisher king you have Tron and Tron legacy You've Got The Giver he's been in a bunch of different stuff over the course of his career he's won three Golden Globes an Academy Award for best actor in a leading role and then also a sag award for outstanding performance in a leading role his career has spanned over seven decades and in total he's been in at least 67 different films as like 67 that means he's been in almost a movie a year for his entire career which is insane his net worth is is estimated at somewhere around $100 million which is definitely not too shabby he's widely regarded as one of the best actors of his generation and has definitely left his mark on Hollywood now not only is he an incredible actor but he is a man of many talents he is an actor but he's also a photographer and a philanthropist he is a musician did you know that he actually released a couple of albums cuz I had no idea apparently Jeff has released several musical albums on top of that he has contributed musically to quite a few of the films that he's been in now when it comes to his photography his artwork has been exhibited in galleries across the United States and then last but not least Jeff is such a big believer in giving back especially when it comes to feeding the hungry in 1984 he founded the end Hunger Network which is a humanitarian effort that aims to eliminate childhood hunger now overall Jeff seems like he is such a smart sweet kind funny and generous human being he is all of those things and more but that doesn't mean that he is perfect however overall it seems like he takes all of that energy into his personal life as well and for the most part his relationships have all ended pretty amicably it seems like he is very much a lover and not a fighter and definitely prefers to be in a relationship as opposed to having short flings and Affairs Jeff met Susan so early on in his career that he really didn't have a lot of time to really build a big long list of previous paramor however there are just a few of them now the first woman he had any kind of romantic attachment to to as a Hollywood person was a woman by the name of Candice June Clark now I spoke about her just a little while ago she was his first kind of like leading co-star like when he got his first real leading role in Fat City she was his love interest and of course they met and hit it off and began to date almost immediately after they started working together Jeff and Candy met in 1972 on the set of Fat City the movie was candi's first but it was Jeff's second though it was his first real leading role Candi had made quite a name of herself in the fashion industry beforehand she had been a cover model things like that so she came onto the set of Fat City with very much a ton of sex appeal and a ton of allore she was nothing but blonde hair blue eyes and legs for days and Jeff was immediately infatuated from their first screen test Jeff had every intention of making candy his girlfriend and he succeeded in doing so they got together and they stayed together for almost I want to say 4 years like I said he is not in to Casual flings or brief Affairs he definitely prefers to be a you know a one woman man and be in a kind of committed relationship now even though she was his first real relationship she he definitely wasn't perfect right did struggle just a tinyy bit with infidelity especially in that first relationship I think that he was just still kind of getting the hang of things his career is starting to pick up a little bit it's not necessarily taking off yet but he's definitely starting to make a little bit of a name for himself and with that is coming a lot more attention it's coming a lot more popularity things like that so he is of course tempted by many other women now from what I can gather he only cheated on Candice one time and that was with yet another one of his co-stars in 1973 so about a year after he and Candi start dating Jeff gets cast as the lead in the last American hero and he plays alongside the infamous Valerie P now y'all Valerie P has been there and done that she is a True Hollywood Wild Child she is absolutely she she was insane she was insane she was intense she was incredibly beautiful and she just had that kind of like that kind of aura about her that just made you want to do something dangerous and she definitely had a little bit of a hold over Jeff Valerie had been a Las Vegas showgirl before she dipped a toe into the acting Pond and she brought a lot of that Charisma and a lot of that energy with her on to the set now she was very well known around Hollywood town as an incredible uh Hostess she used to throw some of the wildest parties in Hollywood history she anybody that was anybody knew Valerie and anybody that was anybody was invited to Valerie's parties now this is where they really started to kind of hook up a little bit because of course they met she invited Jeff to one of her parties and this is where they started to kind of hook up for the very first time now they enjoyed an on and off relationship for about a year uh throughout his relationship in between his relationship with Candice and it didn't last super long but I'll guarantee it was a very very wild ride while it did last and then after they kind of like went their own separate ways he recommitted himself to candy and they continued to date for another 2 years after that now one of the biggest reasons I think that that his relationship with Candice ended is because Candace was ready to kind of really commit and take things to to the next level and the biggest thing about Jeff is he'll be in a relationship all day long but the minute you bring up that marriage word he breaks out into a cold sweat and the only thing he wants to do is run away marriage was something that definitely genuinely terrified him in a very real way uh not exactly sure why cuz again he's in these big long committed relationships he enjoys being half of a couple uh just I don't know something about locking it down truly terrified him after his relationship with Candice kind of comes to an end he then gets his next role in a movie called Rancho Deluxe and for this role he's got to pack up and ship out to Montana because they're filming on location and this is where Jeff's life gets turned upside down in the best way possible he is about to meet his match in a woman named Susan geston Susan geston was a 20-year-old country girl from North Dakota with all kinds of SASS and a smile that could quite literally knock a man off of his feet she had the kind of personality that was just effortlessly likable she instantly won you over and her smile kind of lit up the room now Susan was in town trying to make a little bit of extra money but before she went to back to college in the fall and of course she was in Paradise Valley at the same time Jeff was there shooting for Rancho Deluxe now they had been in town together for a little while by this point however they hadn't run into each other yet so filming is scheduled to start at Susan's workplace and Susan is there of course working her eyy off taking orders and chatting up the customers and all of a sudden Jeff is sitting there delivering his lines and he sees the most beautiful woman he's ever seen in his life out of the corner of his eye now a fun thing to note is that Susan had just gotten out of a really terrible car accident everybody was walking around calling her black eyed Sue she had a broken nose she had two black eyes and you could tell that she was obviously hurting yet somehow she was still like the light of that entire Dining Room everybody looked at her and was like wow that's a pretty woman you know can you imagine how pretty you have to be to look good even with a broken nose and two black eyes well of course the minute Jeff sees Susan his jaw hits the floor and he is immediately telling himself that is my future wife now Jeff continues to work but he keeps stumbling over his lines his brain just isn't working the way that it's supposed to and really all he's worried about is his eyes tracking Susan across the room he's not focused on his seeing Partners he's not focused on work at all all all he can think of is how badly he wants to go up to that woman and say hello Jeff is sitting there peeking over a magazine trying to like look at her without being noticed you know and of course Susan knows he's staring at her cuz we always know when men are staring but she just goes on doing her own thing she's very unimpressed by the entire situation so finally the director gets uh he gets he's had enough he's like okay we'll take a little bit of a break Jeff get your together right so Jeff pops up and takes this opportunity to beine straight for Susan Jeff finally musters up the courage to go and talk to her and he does he goes and Strikes up a conversation and eventually asks Susan out now Susan looks him dead in his face and is like no thank you I'm good but it's a small town I'm sure we'll see each other around Jeff of course is kind of heartbroken but he refuses to give up he knows that this is not the end for them so he is just going to buy his time until you know something happens right so he continues to work and eventually they wrap everything up and it's time to kind of scadaddle get out of town so they have a rap party before they leave before it's time to go back to Hollywood back to California and who shows up at the rap party except Susan and by this point her eyes have kind of cleared up a little bit she's not looking quite so rough she walks in and literally takes just Jeff's Breath Away now of course Jeff had been hoping and praying that Susan was going to show up at the party and when she walks through the door he is like jumping for joy he immediately walks up to her before anybody else has a chance to and asks her to dance now the minute Susan is in Jeff's arms she knows what's going on Jeff knows what's going on and they continue to dance the night away until the sun comes up now by this point Jeff is completely and totally lost lost in love with this woman and he knows that he's about to have to pack his bags and go all the way back to California and he doesn't want to do that without Susan so he asks Susan will you please come back with me I know we just met I know this is super new but I can tell something good is here please just come back with me and Susan ever you know she's ever logical she's like I can't I can't go back with you she's like you are I'm not going to be your Hollywood play thing I'm not going to do that I'm not going to do that to myself I'm going back to college and I'm going to follow my dreams so Jeff he has to understand it and he has to respect it so he packs his bags you know gets in his truck and heads back to California when Jeff gets back to California he just cannot get this woman out of his head he cannot stop thinking about her he he's finding himself sad and she's kind of like a little bit depressed and he knows it's because he he misses her he's in love with this woman woman and the fact that she is not there with him is really really bothering him and of course Susan is kind of regretting her decision just a little bit by this point as well but again she's not going to be easy she's going to make Jeff work for it so Jeff you know he' gotten her phone number so they're calling they're talking to to each other on the phone and Jeff is like you know what screw this so he gets in his freaking RV he gets his best friend and they drive all the way back to Montana just so that Jeff can see Susan again so when Jeff gets back to Montana he goes swings by and picks up Susan Susan brings a bunch of party favors it's the 70s so use your imagination and they're just riding around in this RV with Jeff and his buddy while Susan and Jeff well Jeff's buddy is driving while Susan and Jeff are getting to know each other in the back and at this time Jeff is begging Susan please come back with me I do not want to be with without you you know you love me just admit it to yourself come and be with me and by the end of the night season's like fine I guess I'll come back with you so they pack up and they go back to California but this time with Susan in toe Jeff and Susan have completely skipped over the dating phase and jumped right in to being boyfriend and girlfriend so when they get back to California the first thing they do is go house hunting Jeff is very very interested in starting his life with Su in like by this point they're already saying I love you they already know that this is going to be the rest of their lives so why wait why pretend that it's anything else so their first date was actually them touring around with a realtor looking at houses susen stays with Jeff in California for about 2 years and for those two years everything is perfection they fight they fight a little bit but they're able to get over it Jeff is very stubborn and he is very he is very resistant like I said marriage is not something that he's interested in at all it completely and totally terrifies him and here is Susan she's left everything she's ever known to go to California to live with this man cuz he begged her to do so and yet he refuses to to marry her so Susan's starting to get really really disappointed she's starting to get fed up she is she's losing her patience she has dropped everything to be here for this man and he's not even bothering to make an honest woman out of her also Susan was finding it difficult to find space in Jeff's life for herself like he was refusing to compromise he was refusing everything was perfect except he just wouldn't marry her it was it was like he was keeping one foot out the door just ready to run in case something bad happened and for Susan she was fully committed like this was it to her mind going to be the rest of her life she was committed to this man and she wasn't going to stay committed if he refused to do the same thing which I don't blame her for at all so eventually 2 years go by and Susan she's she's getting ready to like she wants to settle down she wants to start having children but she's not going to have kids outside of marriage it's just not going to happen she's old school and she's just not going to do that and of course Jeff his career is kind of starting to pick up quite a bit now he's starting to get bigger roles money is starting to kind of come in and it is time it is time for them to start their family so she ends up having to give Jeff an ultimatum she's like either you get down on one knee you propose and we move we take the next step or I'm done and I'm going back to North Dakota Jeff really had to wrestle with himself about this decision and as much as he loved Susan he knew that there was no doubt in his mind that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her but he felt like marriage was a trap he felt like it was a cage he felt like it was going to take away all of his options all of his choices and you know essentially it kind of does but when you found your person what other choice do you need and this I think was causing Susan quite a bit of uh insecurity right because she's kind of she's fully committed and he's still worried about protecting his other options right like that's just not okay so she gives him this ultimatum she says either propose or I'm done it takes it takes Jeff all of two days to sit down and propose to her he proposed to her got down on one knee did the whole thing and then 5 days later they were married they got married on June 5th 1977 I can only imagine that the reason they got married so quickly was because Susan was worried Jeff was going to change his mind I'm sure he was worried about the same thing maybe not change his mind but chicken out at the last minute so anyway they get married 5 days after he proposes and that's that right they're officially married they're officially a done deal and now they can start really focusing on building permanence and building a family together Jeff has said on multiple occasions that the decision to finally marry Susan was the best decision he ever made now he calls her Sue he calls her my Sue which I think is just the most adorable thing on the planet he went on to say what you don't know until you get married is that you think all the other doors close which is true but the doorway you open with marriage is a hallway lined with all these other brilliant doors kids deeper intimacy adventures and everything else after they got married Jeff's career really just took off like a freak rocket and after that things have just gone so quickly like I said he's got he's been in Hollywood for almost like six seven decades and y'all he's done 67 68 movies that's almost a movie a year so it was just go go go go go and of course the family that works together stays together so Susan she found her calling not in front of the camera but behind it Susan is an epic producer her and Jeff have actually worked together over 50 times as their careers kind of picked up things became a little bit more stressful they had more and more to deal with they found themselves kind of bickering and arguing quite a lot especially in that short time frame right after they got married it seemed like all they did was argue and they almost broke up a couple of times because of it and again a lot of it had to do with Jeff just trying to be stubborn and not willing to compromise but another big issue was that they just didn't know how to talk to each other uh Jeff has said on many occasions that their communication was awful and I think communication is the biggest glitch in 99% of marriages I know I've been with my husband for 15 years going on 15 years and sometimes it's still very difficult to get across what I'm actually trying to say communication is definitely an art you have to learn how to do it and sometimes it can be really really difficult after lots of trials and tribulations a lot of trial and error they finally ended up landing on a system and a solution that works for them and honestly their solution is just about as simple as it gets they said they speak daily about what's bothering them they each let the other talk until they're finished without any interruptions this gives them time to both say everything they are feeling and listen without having to worry about formulating a response Jeff says that if you change Partners every time it gets tough or you get a little bit dissatisfied then you don't get the richness that's available in a long-term relationship we support each other and it makes our marriage stronger like I said communication is key and the minute you learn how to communicate with your partner effectively life gets so much better almost instantly after Jeff and Susan really got their communication issues under control got really comfortable with each other and super secure in their marriage they were 100% certain that this was going to last and it was going to last for the Long Haul they then turned their focus onto maybe like expanding their family just a little bit four years after they got married they ended up giving birth to their first beautiful baby girl a little girl named Isabelle in 1981 and then 2 years after that they had their second daughter a little girl named Jessica in 83 and then last but not least another 2 years down the road they gave birth to their last beautiful baby girl a little girl named Haley in 1985 they ended up buying a nine-bedroom mansion in Santa Barbara California and this is where they spend the majority of their time at and it's where they mostly raised their girls but they also bought a giant Ranch out in Montana in Chico Hot Springs and that's just a hop skip and a jump away from Paradise Valley where they first met somehow someway Jeff and Susan have managed to raise their girls in such a normal very healthy environment especially when you consider the fact that Jeff is Uber famous they're surrounded by Paparazzi and fame just being in Hollywood just in general has got to be stressful but somehow y'all they have made it work they have beat the odds and they're coming up on like 47 48 years of marriage which is just genuinely mind-blowing to me for the next couple of decades life was an absolute fairy tale for Jeff Susan and their daughters they lived in a state of married Bliss and y'all I couldn't have been happier for him until October of 2020 when Jeff received the devastating diagnosis that he had non Hodgkins lymphoma now this was in October of 2020 and then very swiftly thereafter the covid-19 swept across the planet and the world became a very very scary place for Jeff and his family Jeff was immediately placed onto chemotherapy and of course chemo just absolutely destroys your immune system and of course covid-19 was the most dangerous to people with weakened immune systems now somehow someway Jeff ended up catching Co and y'all it almost took him out he was he says he was in so much pain he was so miserable he never thought that he would be thankful to just have cancer but he said when he got that covid-19 it made the cancer look like a walk in the park y'all thank God this man was able to pull through he almost didn't but I think the reason he was able to come out the other side was just because of su sheer willpower Susan was not about to let her man go she sat by that man's bedside every single day and literally weld him back to Good Health now luckily for Jeff and Susan and their entire family Jeff is now in complete remission I don't necessarily know that he's cancer-free but he is in remission and he is once again living life to the fullest guys that is the end of today's video I hope you found it just as enjoyable and just as sweet as I did I love love love love stories like this I just think they're so normal they're so relatable I just oh it just makes me love them as people so much more as always I will list everything that I used in today's video in the description box below this is today's finished
