Poona Ford signed to Chargers the Chargers are making more moves and this move it may not be a big move but this is a very important move because the Chargers needed a lot of defensive line depth and with this move they are finally getting some of that they just signed Puna Ford who is from Buffalo he played with the bills this past season but he was drafted and played with the Seattle Seahawks he's a actually he was an undrafted free agent but he came out of the draft going to the Seahawks in 2018 he was with the Seahawks for a while he started out his career playing Poona Ford Seahawks Stats/Highlights really well in 2018 on some limited snaps he only played 265 snaps that year but he was a very very good run Defender actually posted an elite grade by PFF 90.0 and 88.2 PFF grade in 2018 but then as those years went on in Seattle they actually changed from a 4-3 scheme to a 34 and he didn't really fit that uh defensive front as well and that's why he had a pretty down year in 2022 as you can see his grade went all the way down to 56.6 but then he goes to Buffalo and again he didn't really have that great of a year he struggled with injuries didn't play as many games but he from what I saw in film and I didn't see a ton of film but I did see a good collection of of snaps from him he's got some really good active hands he's got a What Poona Ford Gives the Defensive Line high motor and he can give you some good reps in pass rush he's a 28 8y old defensive tackle 511 310 lbs so this is your three te guy I mean maybe you can push him out to the five tech I think I saw him line up against a tackle at times but that was when he was with Seattle obviously with that 34 scheme not as good of a a front for him 4-3 is definitely where he's better suited in that three Tech spot as an interior defensive lineman he can give you pass rush like I said but where we're going to want to see Puna Ford be on the field is in that run game because we are going to need a lot of run defense especially along this interior defensive line I was just getting ready to make a video talking about how we need defensive line depth Eric Armstead just got signed by some team I forgot who it was I'll put put the Tweet up right here Eric Armstead got signed for Chargers Have Money to Spend! some pretty big money but we got money now so it's not like we don't have the money to spend because those restructures of Khalil Mack and joy Bosa and the cut of Mike Williams we're gonna have a little bit more money here so we can actually talk about signing some of these free agents that are expected to get like six s million doar a year so this stuff isn't out of the question I think still we need to add depth along that defensive line and some guys that I was looking at before the signing of Puna Ford I still think these could happen like Austin Johnson might be brought back because he could be a three- Tech Guy and also he's that big run defending defensive tackle he's not going to give you much in terms of pass rush I think even Puna Ford might give you more potential there and possibly rushing the passer I also saw him bat Poona Ford can Rush the Passer! down a couple balls that was good for him he's a ball batter he had nine total pressures this past season in one sack and he didn't really have a ton of pass rushing snaps let me just see how many in total he had so he had nine pressures on 86 pass rushing attempts as an interior defensive lineman that's not bad at all this is actually a pretty good potential signing because he's probably coming in on a one-year Pro it deal I'm going to bet on myself to stay healthy this season he showed a lot of potential and what he could do when he was with Seattle obviously the scheme changed didn't help him then he went to Buffalo had an injury that didn't help him and now he's coming to the Chargers Ben Herbert and Jim harau hopefully they're going to get him right and it's not like Puna Ford can't rush the passer he absolutely can give you some potential pressure from that interior spot he's got 11 sacks in his career but he also has shown the ability to defend the Run he can do both and when you look at the rest of this front seven and Chargers Need LB Depth now... really this defense we still need to get some more depth signings like Devin white the linebacker just signed for I think 7.5 million to the Eagles that is an insane freaking deal and you look at the other linebackers that are still in free agency what if Isaiah Simmons goes for something like that what if he goes for like six million because Devon white is going only for 7.5 million I mean I would totally send a flyer on Isaiah Simmons but wouldn't spend big time on him that's for sure Cody Barton is a guy that is more of a a low money linebacker signing Denzel Perman even hey reunion with Denzel Perman I don't know I know a lot of chargers fans did not like him when he was on the team but look he has some pretty good stats graded by PFF he was actually a pretty good run Defender this past season coverage oh my gosh it it was it was bad last year as graded by PFF he had a 38.4 coverage grade that is like Kenneth Murray bad so maybe skip out on that one he would be low money though we're just looking for depth right now another guy that you could consider is Quan Alexander he is actually like the opposite of Denzel Perman he's not going to give you much in run defense he can't get off of blocks but that coverage grade it's much better so if you want a coverage linebacker you can look at Kanan Alexander even Jerome Baker I don't think he's been signed yet either if you look at a a coverage linebacker Jerome Baker fits that that bill like perfectly and then another guy that fits the bill of what we would want in a linebacker could even be someone like Zack Cunningham he's not particularly good in run defense or coverage but he's just about Baseline solid in both areas and I think at 29 years old this is a guy that you could come you could have come in and you could just have him be that backup linebacker and maybe start in certain spots if some other guys get injured he's just a good solid depth piece for Insurance that's what I think Zack Cunningham is that's what I think Cody Barton is but then if you go to the extremes like Denzel Perman you want run defense if you go to the extreme of like Kanan Alexander or Jerome Baker you want coverage ability also if you want De'Vondre Campbell makes sense... coverage ability in a linebacker but you don't want it to go against that comp pick formula dandre Campbell he's going to be 31 years old by the time this season starts but he was just cut by the Packers okay so this is not going to count against that comp pick formula the injuries are concerning he wasn't allpro recently he even made the NFL top 100 players uh I think two years ago he was a really good sideline to sideline player showed some really nice coverage ability he was one of the best uh coverage linebackers in the NFL at his like Heyday which was not long ago you bring him in on a low money deal it doesn't count against the comp piic formula we got money to spend now so we can send these flyers out and also another guy to look at that I think is Chris Board makes a TON OF SENSE very likely here is Chris boy he's 28 years old he was an undrafted free agent from the Ravens in 2018 he's primarily a special teams player he is a linebacker but listen to me aan ogog migga just signed to the Bears so we need linebacker depth and we need special teams depth aan was one of our best special teams player one of the top three guys Chris Bor he went to the Patriots because Bill bellich loved his special team so much that in the off season when he was a frient he said I need that guy so Chris Bor he would certainly fill that gap of the Special Teams uh player that you need while also giving you that linebacker depth plus doesn't count against the comp pick formula because he was released and also he has that connection with the Ravens in Joe hortiz another guy that we could Tyus Bowser for EDGE depth sign to increase that depth in the front seven is tus Bowser now this guy 28 years old he was a second round pick by the Ravens in 2017 there's that Joe hortiz connection and he was actually cut by the Ravens recently so doesn't count against that comp pick formula like we've been saying that's important he was a really explosive athlete bit undersized for an edge but he has shown flashes in the NFL he's got seven sacks in 2021 injured in 2022 and then missed all of last season with a freaking torn Achilles and a knee injury so this is one of those guys again he's got the injury issues this is like a theme here in free agency you got the injury issues but you can bring him along for cheap and let them bet on themselves again we have Ben Herbert we have this great strength and conditioning staff let's Ben Herbert effect bring guys like this in so they can bet on themselves and hopefully we will reap the rewards because this is what the Ravens used to do all the time I mean they still do stuff like this and Puna Ford is kind of doing that same thing by signing with the Chargers he's coming off an injured season he's shown a lot of potential in his career and he's trying to come to the Chargers to have a full health healthy season I'm sure this is a one-year deal and he's going to have a prove it year either way this is a great depth signing we need a depth along this defensive line expect some more moves along this front s in free agency also in the secondary as well and Hayden Hurst and Joey Bosa signed then the interior offensive line too but if you didn't see my video from earlier today you can click this one right here
