college football season getting started a little bit early before everyone else it's Thursday feels like a midweek Mach game but there's no maction down on the field unless you want to count just one half of it rri is Kaden nap happy to have folks along here with us joining you from the roof of do El Perry Stadium in Bowling Green Ohio and a beautiful day it is not it was really hot this week it cooled off just a little bit but up here on the roof Kaden there's a nice breeze blowing through keeping us nice and comfortable yes and we got that shade over us making us even cooler I kind of feel bad for the people baking out in the sun that have been there for the last hour and a half or so but you know what it's football season we're all excited for that it doesn't feel like football season of course a high of 90 today got up to 95 a couple days ago and as you mentioned those fans in the stands across from us Ziggy Ville the Bowling Green student section dressed in all orange we were talking earlier thankfully they're not dressed in all brown because I'm sure they would be baking right now we've got a great matchup here between Bowling Green and the visiting forom Rams from the FCS we'll talk about both of their 2023 season starting with forom forom last year 6 and5 a winning record 2- four in The Patriot League featuring some teams like Lafayette and formerly Army um now of course army part of the American Conference and they had a big win last year against a team that Bowling Green knows pretty well in the Buffalo Bulls yeah they did that was a very high-scoring game at that as well I mean early in the game forom went down 21 to3 and they're able to come back and score a late touchdown to give themselves that win against Buffalo Buffalo of course missed the field goal near the end as well and then going back I mean the year before they had a match up against Ohio where they lost in the last second thanks Ohio scoring a touchdown yeah forom plays the Mid-American Conference very very very well uh emphasis on that last very in the last two seasons they are one in one with that Victory against Buffalo last year and then as you mentioned two years ago down in Athens took the U Bobcats to the wire and that was the year that Ohio went to the MAC Championship game and ultimately lost to Toledo however just because forom plays well against the ma doesn't mean it'll be an easy shot here Bowling Green Under head coach Scott leer who now going into his six season they are three and one against FCS teams they're only lost that 2022 game against Eastern Kentucky that 7 an overtime Thriller and the only year that they didn't play an FCS team was 2020 uh that game canceled due of course uh to the covid-19 covid-19 pandemic excuse me and that first excuse me that first FCS Victory takes us all the way back to 2019 Leer's first year here in Bowling Green and also the last time that BG opened up the season at home against FCS Morgan State where they took him to the cleaners 46-3 and and another thing is I mean that was a completely different team I mean it's crazy to think that that was 5 years ago well now six and I mean they were still in the rebuilding stages especially in 2021 2022 and now they're to the point where I mean last year they were top the nation in takeaways and their defense are just fantastic and now it's going to be exciting to see The Next Step that they do take into this year this year a lot of expectations are high for the this Bowling Green Team they were picked to finish third in the Mid-American Conference this year in the coaches poll this is the best team that this that Bowling Green has seen arguably since 2015 and every single year since coach leer has been here this team has done nothing but improve you know of course unless you take out that uh 2020 Co season where everything was all uh kinds of messed up you go from 3 and nine 0 and 5 4 and8 then 6 and seven last year you get that first winning record in almost 10 years is at 7 and six and now you want to see what you can do this year this year like I said expect excuse me expectations are high so we'll see what they do after this break we're going to step aside for the national anthem when we come back then we'll talk a little bit more right here on Falcon [Music] radio Sten who said that me down here oh what are you a back folks to do El Perry Stadium getting ready just a little over 6 minutes remaining until kickoff and like we said earlier we got a big game here of course the season opener BG trying to win their first season opener since that 2019 season against Morgan State where they won 46 to three all the way back in Scott Leer's very first season as head coach here and they're going to do it with some new pces in um in places where we've seen guys for the last couple years yeah I mean back of course starting his second year here with BGSU is Connor basac it'll be good to see him back he threw 12 total touchdowns of course he was the co- quarterback freshman of the year in the secc four years ago for Missouri and he just brings a lot of experience to the table and I mean it's his sixth year which is what you want to see at your quarterback basac a very experienced guy of course as you said all the way back way back when I guess you could say he was at Missouri in the SEC and he transferred to Indiana for a year played in the Big 10 and now here he is in his second season at Bowling Green last year banged up a little bit by injuries it sounds to me like he's healthy now of course he had to for what he could he missed a couple of games due to injury tossed for 1900 yd 12 touchdowns on 60% completion we're going to look to see and hope that he stays healthy this year is able to propel this team because his BG team is old and I don't mean that in a negative way I just mean that in the fact that they're very experienced there's 33 seniors on this squad give or take one or two and that's what's important in this conference and Coach leer said it we talked to him at um MAC football kickoff back in uh back in July and he told us that it takes experience to win in this league and really I don't think we even needed him to tell us that yeah another big thing with experience is it really sets the way for newcomers I mean consistency was something that was mentioned a lot with BGSU and as younger players you tend to look forward to those seniors you look at what they are doing how they're preparing for games and you really I mean build a schedule off of that and you see okay this player's doing good so I want to follow that and kind of propel myself to be as good as them as well as BG runs onto the field debuting their brand new uniforms they're wearing the orange buckets with the brand new orange jerseys white numbering orange brown and white uh piping on the sides I guess you could say in the brown pants with the orange and white stripes and as you were saying you know experience is big but there's also a lot of guys on this team that are brand new that are going to be playing a lot of time and that starts really in the wide receiver room you lose OJ hair you to the NFL you lose Abdul fatai Ibrahim to the transfer portal he's now at Louisiana Tech Austin Osborne graduated you lose three of the your longest tenur receivers plus you lose teron Keith who was also up there in the receiving room you know granted he does play running back but he was still still such a key figure in the passing game he's gone too now so your two starting receivers according to the depth chart that we have you got Malcolm Johnson Jr who has six catches and 89 yards to his name across a couple years down at Auburn in the SEC and you have Jaylen Tillman who came here last year from Grand Valley State but last year he played sparingly two catches 37 yards and he had a touchdown against Western Michigan now granted I talked to the wide receiver coach Eric Campbell earlier this summer and he told me that Jaylen Tilman is having a phenomenal Camp he's going to be playing a lot of football this year especially we're going to get a really nice look at him here so far in this one tonight and the coaches expect a big year out of him yeah I mean you kind of need to lean on him because he is now the number one receiver and technically most experienced I mean this will be start number four for him here in BG and we're now getting ready for the coin toss but again going back to experience I mean sure he doesn't have a ton of experience but he has more than Malcolm Johnson Jr now in that wide receiver room the guy the actual guy whose position is receiver who is coming back the guy with the most receiving yards is Finn Hogan 11 catches 163 yards and a touchdown most of that was from one game he had uh over a 100 yards in the Georgia Tech game everything else just kind of came here and there but tman outworked him in Camp and Tilman is going to see the field to start here tonight now we'll flip sides over to forom and the big story with forom I guess there's two number one their quarterback CJ Montes yes he was fantastic last year in fact he actually was I'm checking right now he was 241 of 376 with 3,000 passing yards and a cool thing with that is he set the FCS record for fewest interceptions with a minimum of 325 attempts throwing just one and not turning over the football especially as a quarterback is so important we're going to step aside real quick for station identification we'll be back kickoff just a little over a minute away we'll be right back here on Falcon radio hi this is Dave goer radio play byplay booy to the Boston Bruins and you're listening to all the highflying action of Bowling Green Falcon sports on Falcon radio and we're talking about we were talking about guys who are going to have to step up just for a little bit and we have our very first the m just introduced this we have our very first availability report we have our very first injury report we've got a couple guys out for Bowling Green and some of them are kind of some big names starting with RJ Garcia the wide receiver transfer from Kansas State he was expected to have a big role today he was the starting punt returner uh on the depth chart Demetrius Hardeman still returning from that neck injury he suffered last season in the University of Michigan Camden ort the backup quarterback that means likely Lucian Anderson will see all backup duties in the unfortunate event that basack were to get hurt ccer McNeil sea thicken both receivers nikai am marri a freshman running back pan Wimberly Alex Harris and Dom grik just about ready here for kickoff 81 degrees the temp a beautiful day of course as we were mentioning earlier forom set to kick off from left to right across your radio dial phone screen laptop whatever you're using to tune in to us here on this beautiful Thursday night 702 ran just a little bit over but they're not making us wait too much longer Bennett Henderson The Freshman getting ready to kick us off Justin pegs back for Bowling Green ready to receive they'll back up and field it on the goal line trying to take it to the right got some blocks got a hole Peg was down the far sideline and he's got space in front of him 10 five touchdown BG brings back the opening kickoff what a way to start the season wow I don't think you could start a season better than that getting everyone energized he took that ball from inside the one yd line and I mean he just ran with it up the sideline was Off to the Races had a few blocks and wow this BG special teams unit consistently one of the best in the country and now they're showing it again here Justin Peg was a transfer from Tennessee Tech in his very first kickoff attempt as a bowling green falcon 100 yards from wire to wire all the way to the house 6 nothing Falcons lead Jackson clether on for the extra point Allen Ania the hold kick is up kick right down the middle 7 nothing excuse me 6 nothing it looked perfect it looked from our angle like it was right down the middle of course got a little bit too far ahead of myself so his first Pat no good as the Bowling Green kicker after Allen anayia last year who won the starting job went 43 for 43 on Pats so we'll um we'll see if maybe there will be a little kicker controversy as we go W of course way too early to sell 12 seconds off the clock 1448 remaining here in quarter number one Bowling Green leads 6 nothing after Justin peguis took the opening kick what a fantastic way to start I mean if you were it looked like I mean you're ready to go out in defense or bowling GMS ready to go on offense and just you know play get your plays together your preparing yourself then all of a sudden oh flashbang and all of a sudden you're flipping scripts that's certainly quite the way to start the season if you are forum's coverage team now Zack long on to booted away here after the kickoff return touchdown the transfer from Troy handled the kickoff duties last year for the Trojans 78 attempts average 63 yards per kickoff 48 touch back so he's got quite the leg attached to him back deep for forom noden Tracy the kick is away and that is going to bounce Out of Bounds at the one yd line and that'll be a flag well Bowling Green starts the game with the Special Teams high and then right after that they kick it out of bounds and now forum's going to have Fantastic Field position to start forom going to get the ball in some Prime real estate spotting at the 35 yd line so now we'll get our first look our first look at an offense yeah forom going to come out already trailing 6 nothing we'll get our first look at CJ Montes who we talked about a little bit during pregame last season 241 of 375 64% completion one interception to 26 touchdowns in just about 3,000 yards five wide starting out for forom Lu Ridge the back motions into the back field he'll get the hand off on the draw play trying to go up the middle bounces off of a tackle and brought down by Charles Rosser he'll get close to the 40 yd line Looks like they'll give him four on the first down carry the best thing to do after a big play happens or whatever assuming there's not a small amount of time left is relax and hand the ball off forward and that's what they did get the ball rolling LGE a fantastic back 1100 yards and 10 touchdowns last season he'll get the r again trying to go up the middle and this time way too many Falcons clogging up that hole up the gut he'll get just past the 40 they'll call it the 40 and a half on second down that'll bring up third and four now as we TI closer and closer to 14 minutes left to go here in quarter number one well coach conin already doing what he said he'd do in a pregame interview and that is run the ball a little more they said he said that he didn't do it as much as he wanted to last year Montes to throw no drop now he's forced out in run right into Ali's side Bowling Green defense gets a huge stop on third down and forum's going to have to punt a night Maris start for the Rams and a fantastic start for the Falcons CJ mortz couldn't even get his footing there I mean he snapped the ball and all of a sudden there was orange swarming to him and fourth down and long will Haslett on to punt the senior punted 40 times last year for an average of 42.7 yards per punt Peg uis back there again and a flag on the field and the play blown dead looks like it's going to be a false start against forom start off number 27 5 yd fourth down and 10 now moves even further back as they play the construction reverse noises here in Dey El Perry Stadium fourth down and 15 now on the 30 yd line of forom hasl it again for his first punt of the day will do it again gets that one away spiraling kick that's going to be fielded just past the 25 yd line and that'll be whistle dead a Fed fair catch good move there calling fair catch I mean all the momentum is going backwards there and I mean you don't call fair catch there you're running backwards and chances are you don't start in as good field position there was also uh for Ram coverage man in his face we're going to step aside for a TV timeout 1259 left to play here in quarter number one Falcons lead 6 nothing and they'll be on offense for the first time in this one we come back you're listening to Falcon football right here on Falcon [Music] radio eating working living pain free these are a few of the things many of us take for granted but for many adults with disabilities who are HR manager's desk is 7 seconds and most of them are tossed to side now imagine if one of those resumés belonged to Yas Meine who was living in a shelter juggling three jobs I had to be resilient that's something that you can't teach we rely so much on a resume yet it could never tell the full story of someone who had to be independent and take initiative and that's how I handle every project I get discover new ways to develop great talent at gradsoflife.org brought to you by grads oflife and the Ad Council welcome back folks here to Dy El Perry Stadium ree patrias Caden nap 60 Falcons lead with just under 13 to play here in quarter number one they start on their own 22 yd line first offensive Drive of the game and they already lead that 100 yard kick return from Justin pegas a School record so already getting his name into the record books terion Stewart takes a hand off right side gets up to the 25 yd line maybe a little bit past clock will run bring up second down that was a good first down carry make it second down and manageable I mean as long as you get positive yardage on first down and make it so that you're not in a backward situation you know you're doing something good and I'm sure they're going to want to get Stuart going early again this year was on Pace for a fantastic season now the Jet Sweep cutting up making guys miss and up to the 35 yd line waiting to see a number looks like that's rakem Smith the Delaware State transfer he's a very very Speedy guy a former track star in high school that be good for f good gain there by Stewart and another thing that is positive about him is he averages 4.8 yards after first Contact and that's number four in the nation two back set Stuart's going to get the hand off going up the middle fighting over guys trying to get to that 40 yd line on first down not going to get there that'll bring up second down and about eight picked up two between the two teams we've had five of the first first six plays beond the ground both coaches stting out with the Run game Fanon in motion now three receivers wide Peg was the back left hip side car Fannon screen pass got a couple blocks now trying to squeeze his way past him guys tackled forward towards that first down marker but stopped just shy of the 45 they'll spot him at the 44 that'll bring up third down needed the 46 third down and two and Bowling Green running some uptempo offense here some quick substitutions trying to keep their guys fresh but also keep all the momentum on their side basack going to be under Center pegu going to go in motion top to bottom Stewart the setback now pegas will run back the other way Stewart gets the ball going right side gets past the first down marker still going dragging guys up past the BG logo and finally tackled at the 49 yd line of forom and BG is rolling another big gain after getting contacted at first I mean now they're into enemy territory and I mean keep going with Stewart Stuart will check out gyon Patterson will see see the field for the first time tonight trips Far Side man alone near side is Fannon baslac to pass for the first second time tonight wide open is Fanon pass the first down marker hurdles a guy at the 40 and pushed out of bounds past the 35 yd line of forom Harold fan in one of the best tight end seasons in school history and arguably Mac history they are going to look to get him going again early here tonight he averages 14.2 yards perception he's a guy you want to get to and I mean that was just a broken Rams defense there I mean he somehow managed to get through the zone and was wide open as you said Reese under 10 minutes to play here in quarter number one six nothing Falcons lead Patterson gets the ball now cutting up the field right side carrying guys along with him that's something he's beat backs left to do and he picks up another first down for Bowling Green up to the 20 yd line 941 left to play here in the first stanza BG is having their way early here and bom's checking out players and checking in different players trying to get something to stop them I talked to terion before the season started he said this offensive line was doing really well in practice and right now they are owning the line of scrimmage as Patterson goes right side pick piing up a couple yards he'll be stopped just shy of the 15 and someone lost a helmet was tman so he'll go out for a [Music] play Patterson will check out pegas and Stewart both will check back in what do you think about that helmet rule where if your helmet comes off you have to come out for a play I think it's smart cuz in some of those instances when the helmet comes off it's due to a um a walloping and you got to check those guys out pegs on the toss going left side gets a block for Stewart cuts it back at the 10 yd line now up to the five and that's where he'll be stopped just shy of that 5 yd line right now Bowling Green is really switching up the field in a way I mean one play they'll go to the right the next they'll go to the left sometimes they go up the middle and having a dynamic offense that can go it different ways really is great and I mean it's getting to for him so far another first down with eight and a half to play here in quarter number one first down and goal from the seven yard line Stuart gets the ball going left side steps back pushes a guy into the turf steps back touchdown Bowling Green great footwork by Stewart and the fans are very happy right now the Canon fires off I mean reys there's not a lot of players in college football you can see do footwork like that I mean that was just phenomenal the way he changed directions and continued going up field Stuart is a very very big guy guy but don't let that fool you he's very he's he's very low he's a powerful Runner he's got a low center of gravity and that allows him to change directions like that on a dime and also uses that weight to his Advantage pushing through guys 12 nothing Falcons lead extra point on the way that one is good from the right leg of Jackson clether 13 nothing Bowling Green leads with 820 left to play here in quarter number one and Kaden my goodness what a series of events we've seen here from this bowling Green Team to start the season the perfect start to the season I'm trying to figure out why two flags came out on that play Then were picked up looks like we got an illegal substitution against forom obviously Scott leer will decline it P will stand but we're going to step aside terion Stewart carries the Bowling Green Team seven yards into the end zone putting them up 13 nothing over visiting FCS forom 820 left to play here in quarter number one we'll be right back here on Falcon [Music] radio Chris Domin is a husband father to help change one life in your community today 13 nothing Bowling Green leads here at doy Perry Stadium over FCS forom thanks to a seveny terion Stewart bully ball touchdown run dragging guys along with him as he does best re rgus Kaden nap happy to have you folks along with us on this beautiful Thursday night terion Stewart four carries five yards and a touchdown Zack long ready to kick us away back deep Mason Hatfield he'll receive it inside the 10 cutting up left field and barreled over at the 25 yd line Flags will fly Joseph sip on the tackle and we'll see if foron will be starting inside the 25 or if they'll get get a bump in field position due to that yellow laundry on the field yeah I think they're going to get a bump in field position I mean it looked like sip went a little low on that one and the fact that it got two officials to throw their flag tells you a lot with it in return oh wow looks like it's going to be holding against forom so that'll March him back forom will start first down and 10 from right around the 15 yd line fooled me there I mean that was kind of perfect timing with the when the flags came out but I mean just this start keeps on getting worse and worse for the Rams forom has seemingly done nothing but go backwards every time they've had the football 814 left to play here as forom starts their second drive went three and out last time hard count for Montes luid will get the ball no play action airing it out going near side overthrown and trying to find Garrett Cody down the near sideline blanket coverage being applied there by Jordan Oken I get trying to do the play action faking throwing it deep there saw the one-on-one but that was just a fantastic defensive effort by Oken and the 61 senior is making an impression early and montz played that fake perfectly fooling even me now a screen this time to Cody again past the 20 yd line wrapped up by sip Joseph sip one of the better tacklers on this team he's the leading returning tackler with 73 and he's one of very few Bowling Green Falcons if not the only one to have 10 plus tackles in back-to- back season openers both last year and the year before as luff gets the ball again going up the middle got up to about the 27 28 yd line that's just power football there hand it up the middle and move the sticks and now the Rams are starting to go a little faster first first down of the day for the Rams up to the 29 yd line under seven and a half to play here in quarter number one B substitution for BG Anthony Hawkins checks out Lage the back four receivers wide and we've got some motion down at the line of scrimmage flags from both sides we'll see the left tackle for forom David EV bowena was pointing at Jordan Porter and it looks like it looks like it's going to go against Evan Branch Haynes the nose tackle and that's one of those situations where I don't know how you get caught sleeping there is the no tackle you're right there on top of the ball yeah interesting there I mean got to focus on the ball not what the quarterback's saying there first down and five now 702 in counting left to play in quarter number one up to the 34 yd line are the Rams two guys stacked either side High snap lege will get the handoff patient running now he's going to go up the middle and get swarmed by A Flock of Falcons and forward progress flag on the field forward progress will get him up to the 36 and we'll see this play will stand I believe the flags came in with the tackle after the play is over personal foul Defense number 38 unnecessary R 15yd penalty and that is an unnecessary roughness penalty against Bowling Green that'll March for him up another 15 yards dear Kelly the guilty party came in after the play and you simply just can't do that Kaden yeah that's one of the easier calls for the officials I mean they had blown the whistle three four times and still he got thrown to the ground and they threw the flag without hesitation for him in enemy territory for the first time here tonight first down and 10 from BG's 48 yard line 630 to play here in quarter number one three receivers wide tight end behind the left tackle Lu rdge will get the ball again going left side wide open Lane up past the 40 and picks up another first down still going dragging someone along with him he'll stop him at the 30 yard line and another first down for this forom squad I don't know how Lu Ridge managed to extend that play another four five yards I mean it just took so much willpower and he fell forward through Defenders hurry up again Montes to throw pressure he's forced to step up runs right into an oncoming Defender Anthony Hawkins there to clean up Montes BG went back to what they did the first drive when Mont Dro back to pass the first time just bring the full on Blitz hoping that they didn't have a quick pass drawn up and they did not they got to him and now it's second down and very long loss of five on first down brings up second down and 15 from BG's 35 Rams checking the sideline for an audible four receivers either side mcki Felton in the slot Far Side Le to the left of Montes he'll get the hand off trying to go up the middle and swallowed up as soon as he got back to the line of scrimmage was instead Ricky Parks who missed most of last season with an injury he played only in the first game carried the ball for four four times for 33 yards and a high school teammate of Jordan Ola doen at gther High School in Tampa Florida it's interesting the connections that are made it's interesting how two guys from Tampa end up in New York and Bowling Green maybe they're just tired of the heat and humidity I wouldn't necessarily trade Florida Summers montz pressure and he goes down a big third down sack for Bowling Green and Donnie Stevens the Oklahoma State transfer was in there that was a perfectly timed sack for Bowling Green I mean it made it so it's fourth down and you can absolutely not go for it and it pushed you way out of field goal range fourth down in a county mile pushed back to the 45 yd line and haslett's on to punt 407 and Counting here in quarter number one 13 nothing BG leads pgis inside BG's 10 yd line ready to receive this punt off the right leg of aslet going backwards and he'll fair catch it again at the 6yd line 347 left to play BG going to take over one more time try and extend their lead when quarter number one they take over on offense at their own 7 yard line after what was a really nice punt from will Haslett pegu was going to go in motion to bottom hand off going to go left side that's Stewart thrown around and spun forwards by Matt jorski is terion Stewart he's going to be wrapped up just shy of the 15 they'll spot him at the 13 and Kaden we're closing in on record watch Anthony Hawkins has two sacks so far today and I guess I shouldn't say closing in necessarily but we're certainly potentially on a record watch he's on Pace to break the single game sack record of six and there's we're only in the first quarter baslac play action he's just going to dump it off pegs overthrew him a little bit that's going to fall incomplete you wonder if something to do with it is the fact that right tackle Cooper leond for forom is a true freshman and he's the first true freshman to start in the offensive line for forom since 2019 certainly a possibility and maybe a couple guys getting more snaps than they did last year already here today on that forom off defensive line three receivers wide Finn Hogan checks in he's on an island near side now Fon will motion over and sit off of the hip of left tackle Nick Rymer baslac steps up in the pocket fires one with space ahead of him past the 40 yd line and finally tripped up is Jamal Johnson the running back who just checked inal well that's a way to move the ball up field I love how calm and collected basac was the pocket was collapsing on him still stayed upright made a good throw across the middle and big yardage first down and 10 now under 245 left to play here in the first quarter jet Johnson going to motion into the slot near side Patterson the back he's going to get the hand off jump cut into the middle tackled right around the BG logo shy of the 50 48's where they'll spot him that'll bring up second down on a first down gain of three now you have multiple check-ins but seven I mean it feels like kind of anything other than a big touchdown after a big gain is a little tad bit underwhelming but I mean it's a play that did the job three receivers stacked near side Patterson still the back left side side car baslac going to throw a screen to Johnson Johnson's got some blocks spinning up near that first down to gain looks like he's going to be stopped right around there and that will be enough to move the chains now under two to play here in quarter number one now re a question I do have for you is this is new rule this year but the clock no longer stops after a first down gain and we have a two-minute warning what's your opinion on that I think it's certainly interesting I think it'll extend the game a little bit but um I really don't have much more else to say other than that pegas will go in motion fake the toss to him now bac's going to throw deep in the pocket he's got Fanon wide open over the middle of the field puts a guy into the dirt and falls down at the 25 yd line Bon the wrong player to leave open and they've done it now twice and both times bjsc has made him pay for it big chunk yardage go as a gain of 21 now as we're nearing a minute to play here in the first quarter it's a first down Bowling Green up to the 24s where they'll officially spot him Fannon already up to three catches for 57 yards on the day getting him active early after a big season last year keeping him warm pegas will go in motion again fake the toss now they'll hand off to Stewart defense wasn't fooled but Stewart still going up past the 15 yd line is terion Stewart and he'll be wrapped down at the 13 another chain moving Run for the bully I feel like I'm a broken record at the moment and the SBD keeps on just breaking tackles and continuing to move forward to get yardage after first Contact like he does best I mean he's 59 225 he knows how to Bull through guys and get around him and that's frankly what he does best Ken he was top 10 in the country last year and broken tackles and that was with Mi with missing three games he's the back to the right of basac and a whistle blown a timeout going to be taken by Bowling Green coach saw something he didn't like that'll be their first time out of the half just a 30 second timeout so we'll go ahead and keep it here 14 seconds stopped on the clock and you know your coach leer here you're inside the 20 do you try you still there is still the possibility to pick up a first down it's first and 10 from the 13 so do you just on first down do you take a shot for the end zone or do you try and Dink and dunk your way up and get in that way I would continue the Dink and Dunk game because I mean it's worked for them so far and they've been doing a good job so far at perfectly timing the Deep throws downfield and with just having the big play with fan in I wouldn't try another big play because I feel like it's too close together when you space him out the results usually better out of the timeout now Patterson checks into the game as does Lucian Anderson he'll run it left side on the design QB run he's got a wide open Lane five in for the touchdown Lucian Anderson his second touchdown of his BG career comes on a QB keeper with nine seconds to play here in quarter number one here in week one of 2024 and with Cam orth out Lucian Anderson is going to be the guy we know leer likes to mix in those QB runs and Lucian Anderson a very athletic kid out of Georgia yeah he is and I mean he showed it off on the first play that he was in today I mean he got those blocks up the left side was patient with how he was moving downfield and I mean for us it was kind of expected that he would do that but obviously for the Rams it was not cther on to kick the extra point hold is down kick is up and the kick is through that time 20 nothing BG leads with 9 seconds left to play here in quarter number one and what another drive for BG this offense just keeps putting drive after drive together that one started all the way back at the seven yeah that was just a fantastic 93 yard drive it's fun to watch and I mean we're getting more push-ups from people on the field as now they're up to 20 and I mean just keeping doing what you're doing the football you're accustomed to is just so key and I mean not trying anything way out of left field to per se to move the ball downfield or whatever just play your type of football keep staying calm and collected like they have been and this trend will continue for them where on the Rams I mean you're kind of you don't want to say panic mode but you're down by 20 but it is just the first quarter and as we said they Trail Buffalo 21 to3 last year and they still battled back into that game and end up winning in the end and I'm sure those BG cheerleaders and the RC their arms already starting to get sore a little bit like you said already 20 pushups so far and they might have to keep in keep themselves warm because um don't look now Kaden but BG is on Pace for 80 points tonight but uh we'll see if that actually holds true as Zack long on to kick it away again Mason Hatfield back deep standing at his own goal line another beautiful kick end overend for long that one going to be fielded at the goal line by Hatfield BG coverage team got there in a hurry and stopped at the 20 yd line as atfield looks like Jamal Johnson got in there that time with 3 seconds stopped on the clock I understand the run back there but at the same time I me BG had the numbers going down right at you and if you call fair catch there you get the ball automatically at the 25 instead the field position a little worse I mean you're trying to get something going but minus four yards technically for will have time to run one play here before the end of the first quarter they Trail by 20 they start at their own 21 yd line three receivers out wide two bunched up Far Side driving from left to right across your radio dial Lu Ridge the handoff up the middle going to be stopped just shy of the 25 and thrown backwards 24 yd line is where they'll say is for progress was stopped and that'll bring us to the end of the first quarter here in Bowling Green BGSU on Pace for an 80o game here but we'll see if that holds true a fresh 15 minutes on the clock for the second quarter we'll be back in just a couple minutes don't go anywhere you're listening to BGSU football right here on Falcon standing to my right happy to have you folks along here with us Rams open three wide luid going to get the delayed handoff no montz to throw down the sideline knocked Away by Oken no flag flags that was some very tight coverage on Garrett Cody those two have been going back and forth all day so far that'll bring up third down and seven the Falcon Captain winning both battles thus far and I mean that time he got kind of physical with it I mean but it was physical on both sides I think that's why the flag didn't come out which I agree with good officiating there trips near side for the Rams jakori Benjamin checks in at cornerback the first time I've certainly seen him down on the field the transfer from Texas Southern had a very productive career over 5 years for the Tigers luid switches sides in the back field now he'll switch again he'll get the delayed handoff and he is hit and hit hard that'll stop him on third down bring up fourth down and four and potentially the punt unit that was an interesting play call I mean I get trying to take him by surprise but it didn't work out there BG stay disciplined and that slow walk I mean already down 20 and going three and out back to your own sideline as an offensive unit is just devastating in a way for them for BG it just builds the momentum and look at this with the blocking oh they are going full bore BG is very good at blocking punts and Haslet gets one off Corkscrew pegs will field it at the 35 yd line sheds a tackler up past the 50 yd line is pegs gets past the punter and wrapped up into forom territory past the 40 yd line is Peg with and I knew he was a Shifty guy I didn't know how dangerous of a returner that man is oh my goodness I mean that talk about I mean decision making there and I mean like I'm just going to do it I mean I'm already up by 20 and I mean he had a player right in his face instead he shipped around and was able to get up field and I mean it's a smart move because he got good yardage and he's feeling in very nicely for a last year all ma nominee and Jaylen Embry who graduated he was the main returner last year baslac deep drop he's going to uncork one no just dump it off to Fannon gets out of a tackle still going ducking under men up to the 35 yd line it looked like basac was going to uncork one and then he just kind of lofted one underneath to fan and that'll bring up second down I think he saw that forom was getting through the offensive lines like okay I'm just going to check it down and see what Fanon can do it looked like the Rams did adjust a little bit because he had those two wide open catches that time they got to him quickly Johnson goes in motion Stewart the set back he'll get the hand off with a head full of steam up the left side trying to run more guys over he'll get up to the 35 on a gain of One on Second down third and seven with 135 to go here in the first half that was a lot of footwork in running just for one yard there but I mean he's a very third down he's a very patient Runner and that's kind of one of those blessings and curses of being a very patient Runner is you'll have those lanes open when you know when those lanes open but also at the same time you're opening yourself up to get tackled in the back field more empty set formation for the Falcons baslac shallow drop throws over the middle Fannon pass the sticks past the 25 yd line goes Harold Fannon tackled at the 24 they just keep finding those routes across the middle and in the flat and that time mean nice job by basac to take his time throw it across the middle field and fine Fannon I mean right after he made a move from his route that'll move the sticks now with Under 12 and a half to play here in the second quarter 20 nothing Falcons lead Fanon goes in motion from the left side to the right side he'll settle into the slot screen pass to Johnson got some blocks now shifting his way up near the 15 yd line goes Malcolm Johnson he'll be stopped at the 16 yeah the 16 I like this screen workor from the Falcons so far and I feel like again the timing with it just coach leer is already like the play calls and whatnot has just been good and I mean I'm impressed so far Patterson gets a hand off and gets walloped immediately as soon as he gets the foot football that'll go as a loss of One on Second down well good news is it's still third down and short third down and short with under 11 and a half to play boredom read that play you could tell they got to him very quickly and back to the drawing board it goes Patterson goes in motion he settle in as fullback between baslac and Jamal Johnson he'll throw Patterson stumbles past the 10 yd line he picks up the first down could have had a lot more if he just kept his feet that'll move the chains now with 11 minutes to play in the second quarter down to the N9 yd line first and goal for the Falcons good job by the senior to sneak out there in the flat and I mean caught the ball then like you said if he did not stumble he probably is inside the five allowed for them to kind of get their footing and get to him because there was I believe two white jerseys in that left side Falcons checking the sideline for an audible baslac going to hand off Patterson going right side getting close to that 5 yd line Looks like they'll spot him at around the seven and a half yd line gain of two two and A2 some more substitutions in and out and in and out leer keeping his guys fresh here in this one split back formation pegs and Patterson gazer in at tight end goes in motion baslac going to throw forced to step up now he's going to tuck it and run he's got a lane in for the touchdown Conor basack does it himself 26 nothing BG leads pending an extra point and this game it's still early there's still a lot of time but I'm starting to get the feeling that this game might be getting out of hand for forom most definitely BG is having their way at it I mean that was a great job by Bas I mean he just found the open Lane kind of like a running back and did exactly what he needed to do Ian he's like oh crap I have all this open space and might as well take it and got the job done snap his back hold is down kick is up and the kick is through for Jackson CLE they 27 nothing BG on top of forom we're going to step aside for a TV timeout 954 left to play here in quarter number two don't go anywhere 27 nothing Falcons lead over forom 954 left to play here in half number one and Kaden as we get ready for this kickoff after the Connor baslac scramble touchdown we have a falcon who hit a huge milestone on that last drive go ahead and tell us more about that yes Jon Patterson became the 40th player in Falcon history to get a th000 career rushing yards so congratulations to him on reaching that Milestone he entered today 18 yds away and that's a very big number to hit as Longs kickoff goes out of the back of the end zone for a Touchback so forom will take over at the 25 954 to play here in quarter number two pom trying to see if they can cut into this BG lead that is it they got started early and it has done nothing but balloon since that opening kickoff return yeah and bom's not used to being in this situation either I mean like we said in the pregame they played really good against Mac teams previously it looked like coach leer not underestimating them at all and talked of them in the pre pregame Montes play action to Parks got a man downfield with some separation and a flag is thrown and I think that's just going to be an obvious defensive pass interference that's one of those where the ball got underthrown and you had the receiver trying to go back to the football and Reed and I mean nine times out of 10 you're going to get a pass interference from that just how it works sometimes KJ Reed had a step on Tracy reels the back up safety and Revels feeling a little bit under pressure just kind of laid into him to try and prevent a big hit good news is it's not in the National Football League so it's not a spot foul 15 yard penalty on the DPI will move for him up to the 40 yd line four receivers wide both of them are two stacked up either side of the field excuse me parks the back to the right of Montes he'll get the hand off going left side trying to get up to that line to gain needed the 50 got to about the 46 is where they'll spot him and the Rams in the hurry up four receivers again Parks side car right of Montes play action Montes forced out to his left flag on the field in the realm of holding and Montes will just step out of bounds around the 50 yd line yeah this probably will not stand I do believe like you said it's a holding I see two flags down there in the back field I can only anticipate and forum's already moving backwards so I think that kind of ends the discussion on that one especially with the timing of it I mean a lot of the times when you see a quarterback in the back field running around and moving around I mean the offensive Lin may get tired and then as a result they tend to grab and that was an obvious one to the point where two officials pulled out their yellow hankes moving backwards are the Rams that holding penalty called on the left guard Duke Leonard sophomore from Houston Texas that'll bring up second down in 14910 to play here in the second quarter ball on the 36 yd line of the Rams three receivers wide now twins Far Side trying to find a guy on the near sideline over threw him out of bounds was trying to find a Ricky Gonzalez incomplete that'll bring up third down and long that was one of those where I mean if you thre thre it to the inside and he made the catch he's going to get hit hard and I mean even if he doesn't make the catch he's still going to get hit hard so only place he can really put that but a little too much heat on it BG showing pressure on third down Brock horn trying to get up in the grill of that Center four receivers four receivers wide trips Far Side for this Rams offense Parks the tail back Montes to throw got rid of it just in time caught near the sticks but I don't think he got there as Ricky Gonzalez now you're probably going to go for it I would anticipate you do in this situation you're down 27 points you're near the 50 yd line and it's fourth down in about three to go on the 47 yd line need to get to the 50 BG crowd starting to get loud and on their feet trying to disrupt this Rams offense as best as possible same formation as last play trips far side of the field for the Rams oh and a flag down and I think forom [Applause] jumped yes they did that one going to go against the tailback Ricky Parks just got a little bit too ants he fell forward a little bit that'll move him back and bring out the punt unit both coaches during the offseason when during their interviews and whatnot talked in length about penalties and how important it is to not commit them especially false starts and free snap penalties like off Sid it just ticks off coaches and especially in a situation like that where it's Fourth and short in a close game almost blocked I believe Jordan no Loken got in there he might have gotten a finger on it a short punt going to die at the BG 15 yd line great punt coverage by that BG by that BG special teams unit and like I said earlier they are very very good at getting in the face of that punter and disrupting a little bit yeah every single time that he's had to punt it there's been a BG player near him and I mean it puts a pressure on the punter like got to get it off got to get it off and I mean in some cases it makes it so it's a bad punt I mean good job so far I mean handling the pressure and making the punts decent I mean we've had a few great returns by BG including that one that we saw a punt too I mean when we had the return even though there's a player right in the face of Garcia ball going to switch hands 758 left to play here in the second quarter Bowling Green leads 27 nothing don't Central Connecticut Trails Central Michigan 21 to7 at the 1150 Mark of the second quarter and then Toledo leads Duke Kane 7 to0 with 6 minutes and 7 seconds left in quarter number one thank you very much Kaden under seven and a half left to play here in quarter number two baslac to throw pressure coming from the backside he'll dump it off to Jamal Johnson out of the back field knocked out out of bounds just shy of the 40 ydd line is Johnson looks like they'll spot him around the 39 that was just a good play with the blocking and finding the open receiver I mean they keep on doing these little routes out to the flat and it works I mean you got to keep doing what works I mean oldest trick in the book just over seven to play here in in the second quarter first down and 10 from the 38 yd line of Bowling Green Johnson goes in motion top to bottom Stewart the set back now Johnson going to run back across the toss to Stewart Cuts back towards the middle going left side still but brought down in the back field is terion Stewart bunch of rams there to bring him down for a big loss I saw two Bowling Green defensive play or offensive players excuse me going in on one ram and you know that when you see that that your numbers are against you and the Rams got in the back field and were able to get that tackle loss of about three on first down brings up second down and 13 split back set baslac to throw forced to step up now he'll dump it off to Patterson who dropped it but is able to get back on top of it just in case it was a backwards pass I believe it was so it'll go as another loss so back to- back plays for negative yards for Bowling Green and this is the first time we've really seen forom play well on defense or well enough to stop BG yeah I mean it started with the I mean on second down when we had the tackle in the back field and I mean when you get an offense going backwards it makes it easier on you as a defense and in that case I mean I think we saw a kind of solid drop there because you know if you look up there was two for players running in basac deep drop he's going to throw it near side that's Elijah Boyd one of the new tight end transfers from utap and he gets up to the 40 yd line past the original line of scrimmage and not much further than that that was a fantastic open field Tackle by Andrew Osman I mean he did not let him go anywhere and now the pting unit DRS out this is the first time I believe right for Bowling Green you would be correct we're going to see John Henderson for the first time he transferred in from I believe Ventura Community College Way Out West seeing the punting duties for the first time here tonight punted 43 times last year for an average of 34.7 yards at a long of 59 and this one end overend going to be fair caught inside the 20 yd line by Cole Thorton that'll bring us to another immediate timeout we're going to go ahead and take it with them 27 nothing forom takes over inside their own 20 yard line for a ride Buzz driving is drunk driving a message brought to you by Nitsa and the Ad Council coming out of the media timeout forom takes over on their own 18 yard line first down and 10 Just a Touch over 5 minutes to play here in the first half and in this situation I mean I feel like now every single time no matter where you start it's going to be four down territory down by this much man goes in motion Lu ril switch sides in the back field opposite montz he'll get the hand off trying to go up the middle he'll pick up some yards with Falcons on his back up past the 20 yd line to the 22 that'll bring up second down in medium if you want to know how bad Bowling Green is bullying the Rams right now well they have 61 total yards they averaged 40 428 last year per game shutting down a very impressive forom offense of course not the carbon copy of last year they did lose some guys their leading receiver is gone of course now near side near the sticks and stepping out of bounds is Garrett Cody with the reception at the 25 yard line they'll spot him at the 26 now under five to play Rams back in their hurry up third down and very short two yards that was one of one of those did he step out or did he continue going up field official said yes he did luff rdge will get the handoff going up the middle and Barrel down who got in there looks like Joseph sip in there for the tfl to stop him on Third and short and bring up fourth and short and it looks like the offense going to stay back out there and go for it like we said this is more than likely four down territory and of course montz still out there down 27 now if they get a false start this time I don't I think coach might jump up in the air so and start screaming three receivers wide twins Far Side Parks the back to the right of montz he'll get the hand off trying to go up the middle and I believe he got it up to the 30 yd line was instead Julius luid and that'll move the chains now three and a half to play in the second quarter not a surprise there I mean why risk passing it on third down or fourth down excuse me is super short when you hand it up the middle and they got two yards out of it which is enough 27 zip Falcon still leading now 315 to go in quarter number two luff Ridge play action montz going to airrow it out down the near side Lin some Jersey tugging knocked away Edward Rambo in coverage the NAU transfer and that pass going to fall incomplete these BG DBS they have been like a light switch on a wall to these Rams Receivers yeah they've been all over them and I mean as a result they have not been able to complete a deep pass downfield I mean they've been trying multiple times now and BG says absolutely not luid will get the ball going right side got some space ahead of him past the first down marker CJ Brown in Pursuit he's got some great daylight in front of him knocked out of Bounds at the 30 yd line is Julius ruffage and I think that's the big play really that forom needed yeah it is I mean if you can't get it deep down field I guess to the passing game try a hand off and I mean they had blocks I mean took BG by surprise there you could tell and as a result they get the big game 245 left to play here in the first half forom now moving first and 10 at the 28 yd line luff Ridge again he'll be wrapped up Shy of the 20 another good gain and look at all those Falcons a big substitution for this BG defense a little winded after forom ran the hurry up after that big gain second down and six at the 23 yd line forom really running it down the neck of BG and picking up the tempo I wonder if they're going to let this run down to the two-minute warning no they will not Ricky Parks the handoff up the middle stop shy of the 20 again and that'll take us down to the two-minute warning 27 nothing BG leads but forom is d driving we'll be right back here on Falcon [Music] radio actress Allison Sweeney for American Humane for more than 100 years American Humane clock here in deut Perry Stadium Bowling Green leads 27 nothing but forom on BG's 21 yd line they'll have it third down and three coming out of the two-minute break ree patri is Kaden nap have it happy folks along here with us for what has been a outright BG dominant showing third down and three four receivers wide trips near side for the Rams luff Ridge the back to the right of Montes Montes play action he'll throw it near side wide open as Garrett Cody past the 15yd line and stopped just shy of the 10 and hit hard he's Garrett Cody that'll be an easy first down for the Rams now with 145 left to play here in the first half Cody just I mean absolutely took a big hit at the end of that I mean he was hit once and then when he was on the ground took another big hit I believe that was a McGary that came in there a little bit late and we might 15 theame looks like we have an error with the game clock they're going to add an extra 7 seconds I will say Reese with the new rule you mean kind of expected there to be a little bit of uh adjustment because the clock operator used to sto in the clock after every first down but now I mean you have the two-minute warning and then you stop it after every first down and a flag down man went in motion but we'll see if that'll end up against forom substitution during the stoppage it's like Darius McLendon will check in for ay McGary McLendon a transfer from Florida Atlantic started his career at Middle Tennessee then went to the New Mexico Military Institute then last year was at FAU where he had a very productive season 61 tackles five tackles for loss and a fumble recovered as a member of the owls team last year interesting to see what the stoppage is snap infraction going to go against forom first they'll replay first down but now instead of first and 10 it'll be first and 15 subraction this is their first of the half and forom going to take a timeout to avoid that penalty that 10-second runoff penalty that comes with the snap infraction so we'll go ahead and we'll keep it here for this timeout so you're you're down 27 we said it time and time again you're now inside the 20 yard line what are you dialing up in this timeout because you need to score here to at least bring it within three scores going into halftime do yeah I do go to the air and I Me Maybe not go all out for the End Zone try and get I mean make it second down and manageable because if you throw a take say take a shot to the End Zone it goes incomplete which their chances of going incomplete are higher because I mean it's a further distance anyway but then it's second down at 15 and you're working behind the chains already so I mean try and do something to get you ahead of the chains and make it second down and manageable if you can't get a first down or a touchdown first and 15 twins either side of the formation for the Rams luid side car to the left of Montes montz going to throw shallow drop pressure in his face and he's going to go down Charles Rosser in there with Evan or with Ali sod excuse me one more time Reese they had everyone go to the end zone pretty much and as a result I mean they took the shot or trying to at least and as a result M got sacked and as a result I mean it's second down and 20 they're not using the timeout they're just going with the flow Buck 15 to play here in the first half montz is going to hand it off Lu Ridge now he's going to throw roll out to the right had a man in the flat if he wanted he's just going to lower his shoulder and take a hit fall down right around the line of scrimmage clock will run now we're under a minute to play here in the second quarter if I'm BG I consider using a timeout here I mean they've been scoring quickly and use a timeout here stop the clock are going to get the ball back with good amount of time more than likely and I mean that was a smart move by it looks like we do have a timeout down on the field but not by Bowling Green forom is going to take their second time out of the half I think that was a great take by Montes I mean he was he lowered his shoulder like you said and he didn't just like full on take the hit and I mean that's how you get hurt as a quarterback you got to learn I mean Cam Newton knows all too well about how not to take hits and also I want to point out that it was kind of smart by coach Conlin to use the timeout when he did because if you use it immediately like I was kind of saying with BG I mean it gives BG back the ball more than likely with a good amount of time left instead he's like oh let the clock run down a little bit and then I'll use my timeout so I still have enough time if I get a first down but at the same time if I don't BG is going to have to travel the field in 30ish seconds it's going to be third down and 20 first down marker is at the 2 yd line and I think in this situation you kind of just have to throw it immed at the very least and try and pick up the rest after the catch four receivers wide trips near side Montes he'll throw a screen to luid and the BG defense was just all sitting back luid goes Airborne but stopped shy of the first down marker and that'll be a turnover on Downs excuse me that'll bring up fourth down getting a little bit ahead of myself getting a little too excited that'll bring up fourth down in six rather with 25 seconds left to go wow I mean that's what you got to do on third down and very long I mean you have the fourth down to go you check it down don't take that shot make it so that is fourth down and manageable if you are presented with the opportunity and it's going to be interesting to see what they do here as a clock's now at 3 seconds and it looks like they're going to take a timeout and more than likely just take a field goal and send this thing into the break now reys you're in an interesting predicament here I take the field goal personally because a field goal makes it a three possession game and at the end of the day I mean this is the best Drive you've had to the game so far and you got to get points from it I mean otherwise it's going to just kill the all the momentum you built up if you go for it here don't get it especially with they being 3 seconds you have to go to the end zone I mean you're going to go in the half down four possessions like oh we got down the field and we weren't able to score and I mean another thing you get the ball back to start the third quarter exactly so you could get a little two for one smart thing is to send out the field goal unit you take your points you drove all the way down here would be simply foolish just to try for the end zone and then leave empty-handed you at least want to go for what you believe are the sure points [Applause] for Florida Bennett Henderson the true freshman on to attempt the field goal for forom but BG going to use a timeout and Ice The Freshman kicker you know it's really difficult especially with the icing speaking of it the new college football game when you call timeout late when you have to do a field goal oh tell me about it tell me about it I mean how how are you enjoying that game I just want to know I like it a lot I mean I'm not a very big video game person but I do play it occasionally I mean I have fun with it I cannot figure out the field goals for the life of me though I will say that they certainly made the field goals a lot harder than Madden and especially when you get iced like Bennett Henderson did right here 25 yard attempt for the Freshman his first ever Collegiate field goal attempt I think the meter's moving pretty fast right now snap his back Hold Us Down kick is up and the kick is true Bennett Henderson a perfect one for one in his Co early college career and that's going to send us into halftime Rams finally get on the board but they Trail by 24 BG leads 273 as we go into the break don't go anywhere we'll be back in just a couple minutes for a halftime show now starting to get a little bit of national attention uh ESPN college football and Kirk herb Street both announcing on Twitter SLX you know they're talking about it that and that's just how big of a play that was 100 yards School record opening kickoff and that's what got this scoring Onslaught started for BG ree patrias Kaden nap happy to have you folks along here with us and like I said it's been wire to wire really nothing but bowl and green it really has I mean like you said reys right from the GetGo they started with that big kicker turn for touchdown and really I mean just in general when you start a season or a game with a kick return return touchdown it really hurt the other team I mean it hurts them in a really bad way and I mean it kind of like it was like oh crap well now we're playing from behind right from the GetGo we didn't even get our footing in and it's like the game plan kind of like completely takes a turn and another thing with boredom is they've lost seven of their last eight season openers and another thing with BG is they really haven't had the the best of luck in their last few season openers either they've lost four straight dating back to 2020 so finally maybe a step in the right direction now uh like we said up 24 BG 27-3 the score right now with just about 10 minutes left to go here in this halftime break so you're in the locker room you're up big but we've seen this BG team time and time again no matter how big the lead they've had it's never 100% safe yeah I mean for most teams it's kind of that way you got to you mean you got to learn how to play ahead and not get too comfortable in your situation and go oh I'm just going to do like these little handoffs here and there every play pretty much and You' got to still play like you kind of did in the first half I mean maybe instead of like going as quick you're going to you know run the play clock down a little more but you're not going to play in a way that like oh I lead by 24 you got to play like it's 0 and I'm sure that's the message that's being echoed in the Bowling Green State University locker room right now and with a lead like this we can anticipate they'll probably be running the ball a little bit more than they did in the first half of course BG a team that just likes to run the ball anyways but running the ball they've they've got 109 yards so far already tonight and it's only halftime terion Stewart leads the way nine carries for 47 yards and he had that that seveny touchdown run back in the first quarter followed by jaon Patterson 5 for 20 Lucian Anderson one for 13 that was a touchdown back in the first quarter as well and Connor baslac the final third and final touchdown of the third and final offensive touchdown I guess I should say that eight yard Scamper back in the second quarter basac 11 of 13 passing for 125 yds 84.6 % completion along long of 32 on the night and that's essentially night and day from what forom has done on offenses BG defense a phenomenal job of keeping an offensive unit that last year averaged almost 450 yards per game yeah and 30 points per game I mean holding a team that is used to scoring a lot of points to three points is I mean another good thing I mean they're really what Bowling Green is doing is they're making it so for them is uncom able and when you're playing uncomfortable you tend to play worse making them uncomfortable they have CJ Montes has been sacked four times he's 5 for n for 47 yards although the lone bright spot and I think going into this game Julius luff rdge one of the better um running backs in the FCS he's got 12 carries for 108 yards highlighted by that 42 yd run there to set up that field goal just a couple of minutes ago we're going to go ahead and step back aside for a couple more when we come back we will have the beginning of the second half here from do Perry Stadium 273 the Falcons lead we'll be right back here on Falcon [Music] radio hi I'm Ariel Winter if half and so forom gets the ball first Kaden what's the game plan here you had half time to script out that first drive of this second half what are you putting together you need a healthy mix of the runs and passes that you had from your last possession but at the same time you have to know that more than likely you're not going to get that big Breakaway run like you did previously so you got to take it kind of one play at a time keep yourselves ahead of the sticks had that big hitter that 42 yd run from Julius LGE and that was in a situation where BG was really sitting on the pass so they were a little spaced out not really ready to sit there and pounce on the Run especially in the situation that forom was in 15 fresh minutes on the clock Zack long getting ready to kick it away for Bowling Green back deep to receive is Mason Hatfield standing on his own goal line kick away end over end going to go out of the back of the end zone for a Touchback for will take over at their own 25 here we go this is arguably the biggest offensive possession of the game for forom if you come out and you score a touchdown are able to get the two-point conversion it's a totally different football game but that's really the big thing is you have to get down to the other end of the field and score somehow some way against the BG defense has been really unrelenting against both the run and the pass three receivers wide for the Rams offense as we start the second half Montes in the back field with lu Ridge behind him to the right now Lu Ridge will switch sides and he'll get the ball going up the middle stopped but still going had a man on his feet Joseph sip able to power forward a little bit pick up about a yard or so I don't know how he gained a yard there I mean it looked like he was done dead to rights but able to fall forward and Joseph s such a sure tackler able just to sneak right through him twins bunched up either side of the formation last second signal for the BG defense Montes to throw and he's just going to throw it at the feet of Julius luff Ridge it'll bring up third down when you're in that type of situation reys as a receiver and you see all these orange jerseys around you it's just better to drop it there and that was I mean I don't know if it was intentional or not but that was the good move by having it dropped otherwise it's a loss of four as an optimist I want to say that last second signal by Charles Roser was him telling his guys hey I think this is a screen cuz he was right there ready to deck Lu Ridge had he caught the ball Montes to throw pressure he's just going to shovel it to luff Ridge again luid he's so sneaky he's got a man to beat in jakori Benjamin he's going to be spun down at the Third 30 Y Line and another big hitter for number 15 that was a very Patrick momes esque kind of throw by Montes I mean he just flipped it forward and luid took advantage he had a lot of space in front of him and there's that big hitter middle of the BG defense was left wide open and luid had a wide open Lane first down and 10 all the way down to the BG 30 yard line four receivers wide two either side of the formation for the Rams luid going to move to the right hip of Montes Montes to throw now he's going for the End Zone bucket catch in for the touchdown Cole Thornton on the far sideline tight rope and what a beautiful ball from CJ Montes right over the DB yeah we had the receiver beat the defensive back and I mean Montes recognized that and said I'm going to Loft it up and the catch was made just like you said now it's going to be an interesting decision do you go for two here do you kick the extra point looks like they're going to kick the extra point do you agree with that Rees I do agree with it in this situation it's you know there's still plenty of time in the second half to continue to put together more drives like that Henderson on to kick the extra point haset to hold kick is up kick is through 2710 the Rams with a very quick scoring Drive taking only a minute and 25 seconds off the clock 1335 to play here in quarter number two we're going to step aside for immediate timeout when we come back BG takes back over their first drive of the second half don't go anywhere we'll be right back here on Falcon radio uh give me standing up for what's right helping out when things go wrong seeking the truth and victory was proving the disability is is not a limitation I'm Julius I'm a veteran my victory is going from homeless to home at DAV we're on a mission helping veterans of all generations both teams back out getting ready for the kickoff after a quick scoring drive from forom only a minute 25 taken off the clock here in the third quarter capped off by a 30 yd passing touchdown from CJ Montes to Cole thoron and it was Blanket coverage they had jakori Benjamin in there in coverage on the far boundary and you can't really even be mad about that as a BG fan because that ball was just placed perfectly Bennett Henderson to kick it away Justin Peg was going to kick it inside his own 5 yd line he's already got one touchdown return tonight it's going to be spun down around the 25 yd line and that's where BG will take back over their first drive of the second half here and now they're in a situation where they I feel they have to answer after how quick that drive was for forom yeah that was was the perfect start to the half for forom on offense now what will make even better is that they can get a defensive stop here especially a quick one we've seen that momentum transfer from one team's offense to the same team's defense time and time again now it's normally been Bowling Green we'll see if it happens here with forom on the Jet Sweep is rakem Smith and he is wrapped up in the back field nowhere going for number 16 had that 11 yd run on the Jet Sweep earlier in the first quarter but that time the forom defense sniffed it out early I think like you said Reese it's going from offense to defense momentum wise great first play on the defensive side of the football two receivers either side of the formation for the Falcons Patterson the tail back right side of baslac Tilman receiver on the near side baslac going to hit it to tman bobbling dropped unfortunate hit him right in the hands and tman tried to knock it back to himself and eventually it just fell to the ground and was almost intercepted that'll bring up third and 12 99 out of 100 times you're going to see that caught that was I mean he was absolutely wide open across the middle got to have those and like I said earlier you got to stay ahead of the sticks and now they're in a low percentage situation third down and 12 1251 left to play here in quarter number three Fanon going to go in motion trips Far Side baslac to throw pressure coming from forom steps up delivers a throw Finn Hogan tackled at the 30 yd line and B is going to have to punt not the start you want uh to start this second half for BG mm not at all and I mean we're not even 3 minutes in and I mean it feels like a completely different football game I mean you started the game like we said with Bowling Green getting that big touchdown return and now you have the second half being start by a quick foron touchdown John Henderson on to punt it away for the second time tonight Cole thoron who just caught that touchdown on forum's last drive back deep to receive this punt he'll fair catch it inside the 30 yd line and the 29 specifically is where this Rams offense will take back over with 1201 left to play here in quarter number three listen to The Forum faithful getting loud there certainly aren't a lot of people down there dressed in burgundy but you can certainly hear them over what is for now silenced and stunned BG crowd it also doesn't help for BG that this is a quick change of possession like we didn't even have a full TV break or radio break four receivers wide BG bringing pressure quick throw Far Side wrapped up at the 35 yd line hard to see a [Applause] number looks like that's going to be Garrett Cody quick passes is where forom saw their success in the half number one he'll pick up seven on first down that'll bring up second down and three trips near side showing screen it'll be an RPO to Parks Parks wrapped up P behind the line of scrimmage excuse me at the 35 it'll go for a loss of one and bring up third down and four that was a big play for Bowling Green defense hopefully for them it gets their footing back and propels them to get a stop here BG's defense in a little bit of confusion jumping around the field trying to get to the right spot lucky for them forom wasn't just ready either Parks the Back Field to the right of Montes two receivers either side third down and four now under 11 to play Montes to throw pressure in his face he gets out of it now he's going to scramble got some room ahead of him tripped up just shy of the 50 yd line they'll spot him down at the 47 and that's one of those plays that simply just can't happen if you're BG's defense you had four guys in the back field and he got away yeah I'm not sure how he did exactly I mean he had 58 rushing yards last year and good job by Montes to stay aware and see okay yeah there's four players running at me but there's this tiny little Gap and he was able to get through it and he keeps the CH chains moving big run from Montes up to the 47 yd line 10 and a half to play first down and 10 two receivers either side again Parks going to get the ball right side hurdling over guy gets into enemy territory stopped shy of the 45 47's where they'll Mark him that'll bring up second down in medium the Rams started off this half very diverse on the offensive side you don't know what play is coming up next Rams in the hurry up and I would assume they have just a string of plays that they're just going to cycle through so they don't have to keep stopping keep this momentum going BG going to bring pressure handoff going up the middle pile driving their way to that first down marker and they get past it another first down for this Rams offense as we've got 104 or 945 excuse me to play in quarter number three up to the 42 yd line go the Rams and the chains will move there were four white jerseys behind Ricky Parks pushing him forward through the blowing green defense I mean they gave him that first down I mean there's no way he's getting that if it's just him alone Ram still Trail 2710 trying to make it a two-score ball game driving and driving well as we're under nine and a half to play BG showing a little bit of pressure now the dbo back off run up the middle up to the 40 yd line goes Parks little bit of pushback finally from the BG defense he'll get up to the 39 what I'm noticing so far in this half for forom through one and a half drives basically on first down they're getting good chunks of yardage make it second down and manageable second down and seven now under nine to play in the third quarter up to the 39 yd line of the Falcons finally taken a little bit of break is of this Rams offense three receivers wide luff Ridge the back Montes steps up now he's going to take off again sliding at the 35 5 Y Line trying to avoid a big hit from the incoming Donnie Stevens and that'll bring up third down and short 815 to play here in quarter number three the decision making for a quarterback is so quick like you have so little time to decide what you're going to do third down and four I feel like I don't have to say this but B could really use a stop here 36 yd line under eight to play here in quarter number three 2710 Falcons lead Montes in the shotgun he'll hand it off to luri who's wrapped up in the back field PG's defense sniffed it out that time and that'll bring up fourth down it's also decision time do you go for it or do you punt the ball away especially going backwards and now it's fourth down in an intermediate amount it looks like looks like they'll bring out the punt team and honestly I do respect the decision defense just had a really good three and out on that on BG's last drive and you obviously you don't put your full strength into this one you pin BG back deep and you get good you start yourself off in good field position if you force another punt for BG but we're getting a little too far ahead of ourselves fourth down and six hasl on to punt drop kick end over end that one is going to sail and be down at the 5 ydd line a great play by that Ford and punt coverage unit and there's a TV timeout down on the field we're going to go ahead and take it with them BG takes over at their own 5 yd line with 655 left to play in quarter number three they lead forward them 2710 don't go anywhere we'll be right back here on us support more victories for veterans go to dav.org coming out of the break BG takes over on their own 5 yd line 2710 they lead ree patriz Kaden nap happy to have you folks along here with us 655 left to go here in quarter number three baslac and Company going to try and look to find the end zone again they made it look so effortless in the first half but after just one drive they've looked a little rough Stewart going to get the ball going right side he's got some room Cuts back across the field he's still running tripped up from behind his terion Stewart around the 25 yd line and that looked like a dangerous tackle it did but it was a good tackle in the end for the [Music] ramsi that'll move the chains for Bowling Green they get up to the 28 yd line a 23 yd Rush on first down under 6 and a half to play Levi gazer goes in motion he'll settle off the hip of the right tackle Patterson gets the carry going left side he'll get just past the line of scrimmage maybe about half a yard or so you know he just had that big gain so it's like why not going to the ground once again that one didn't get as much yardage obviously but if it's not broken why fix it exactly they pick up a yard on first down that brings up second down and nine as we take under six to play here in quarter number three three receivers wide two near side Fanon going to motion into the slot near side Patterson still the back basel's going to throw he's got Johnson on the far side near the sticks makes a man miss he's got break away speed but he gets wrapped up just shy of the 50 yd line looked like he had an opening but he's brought down from behind still going to move the chains though give BG a fresh set of downs first and 10 up to the 47 yd line of Bowling Green what a smooth move by Malcolm Johnson Jr I mean it looked like he was going to be tackled instantly but said he moved over to the right and continued up field pegs the back motions out to The Far Side boundary baslac alone he'll get it off to pegs on the screen getting past the 50 yd line with some laundry on the field goes number 20 we'll see if the play stands on the I think this is going to be an offensive hold looks like BG is already walking back and that's one of those tough situations when you have receivers out there blocking I feel like there's always an increased chance of a hold cuz you know you teach receivers how to block but that's not really their whole livelihood so that negates a gain of a couple going to walk BG back to about the 37 yd line their own 37 yd line Stewart going to get the handoff going left running a man over no basack kept it himself on the boot leg faked everybody out and tackled just a yard shy of the line of of the line to gain a run of 19 on first down for number seven that was the perfect play call for that situation it looks like we do have an injured Ram down on the field can't 100% see a number hopefully they are okay both team's going to head to a huddle we'll go ahead and keep it here but now BG finally looks like they're finding something that's working yeah I mean you take the risk of that I mean you don't necessarily want to run your quarterback all the time but I mean you got to pick your spots and that was a good spot to do it looks like there is going to be a media timeout down on the field we'll go ahead and take it with them 2710 BG leads and they're starting to drive once more 436 left to play here in quarter number three we'll be right back here on Falcon radio long ago you wouldn't think of Galloping on a horse while doing calligraphy and you foundation and the Ad Council welcome back folks coming out of the media timeout 2710 BG leads and they're starting to put together a little bit of a drive here they had a rough start to the second half back on that first drive but now it looks like they're finally starting to put it together Conor Bas like with a big 19 yd run on first down and 20 to get us where we are now second down and one 436 left to play in the third quarter ball on the 44 yd line of forom the injured Ram was Perkins who is in on the tackle Fannon going to go in motion settle in the slot Far Side basac going to hand it off to Stewart Stewart easily picks up the first down carrying guys along with him nearing that 35 yd line and he'll get brought down to the 37 all he does is carry guys Along on his back and he's doing it over and over again here tonight yep it looks like he's going to be a top the nation just based on one game and yards after first Contact on average he truly is just one of the best pure runners in all of college football in my opinion I might be a little biased but Fannon goes in motion play action pressure in bac's face he's forced to roll out he's just going to try and dump it off to Stewart on the near sideline incomplete off of Stewart's fingertips incomplete pass on first down you know what that means brings up second down and 10 that pass just went out in front and went incomplete there's a little contact afterwards but you know when there's momentum going sometimes it's hard to stop it can't do nothing to stop that baslac settles in under Center rakem Smith going to go in motion they'll get him on the Jet Sweep one more time brought down at the line of scrimmage is Smith they fooled them once but not two more times there is laundry down on the field a little yellow sock action we'll see if the stand if the play of No Gain stands or if be you have to start marching backwards it came out on the same side of the play foul face mask looks like we have a face mask against Bowling Green That'll Walk him back 15 yards and BG hasn't had a lot of penalties in this one but when they have they've all been those big penalties that will cost 15 yards yeah so when you look at the box score you're going to see a lot a lot of penalty yardage and that one just it's not very often that you see an offensive face mask penalty and I mean that really kind of makes this drive completely different cuz they were just driving BG averaging a little under 15 yards a penalty four penalties for 45 yards as Fanon goes in motion will settle in the slot near side Bas laack look going to throw scan in the field hit as he threw ball Falls incomplete on second down and 25 intended target was Finn Hogan looked like Finn Hogan fell down as the ball was being thrown so he didn't have much of a chance of getting to that one I am not much of a betting man Kaden but I would bet that with the temperature change the field may be getting a little slick out there and the cleats maybe not sticking as well as they were earlier causing Finn Hogan to uh get a face full of astro turf thir that's a second Falcon we've seen slip today third down 25 331 to play here in quarter number three ball on the 48 yd line baslac with pressure in his face he's going to roll out to his left Hees one up towards The Far Side boundary and that one is just going to Sail Out of Bounds threw it away on Third and 25 and that'll bring out John Henderson that's one of those okay it's third down and forever I don't have anything in my playbook for this specific situation what am I going to do he threw it up I mean best thing to do in that case I mean throw it away because he was fa with heavy pressure and everyone's covered up not much else you can do there you tried your best you got out of pressure trying to extend the play just nobody was open looks like forom is going to try and bring the hammer on John Henderson every member of this punt coverage team on the line of scrimmage and it's a fake punt John Henderson going around the right side got a lot of grass in front of him Henderson up to the 25 and hit hard past the 25 and a little bit of trickeration out of the back pocket of Scott ler picks up a first down for BG you know there's an old saying in football when it works you look like a genius but if it doesn't work you look like an idiot that worked genius call wow under three minutes to play here first down and 10 at the 23 yd line and what a fantastic play call from Scott ler the trickeration worked perfectly you had forom going in really an allout Blitz and you just caught him sleeping basac empty set three receivers wide he's going to throw pump fakes throws it over the middle got he had pegas but he dropped it over the middle of the field and there wasn't a ram Defender within five yards of number 20 had he held on to that yeah that's one of those you just got a catch I mean out in the open couldn't hang on but let's go back to that fake Punt and Reese I mean when you do a play like that or make a decision like that it's based on what look am I getting on the defensive side and like you said they pull out the whole Blitz and as a result they fake punt it Levi gazer goes in motion Stuart going to get the ball stutter stepping going up the middle running guys over as he inches closer to that 15 yd line he does get past the 20 pick up 4 and 1 half on second down that brings up third and medium and this is the situation you want to be and they've been able to Dink and dunk their way up the field those short to medium passes have been their bread and butter so far in this one stewart checks out in favor of gyon Patterson baslac in the shotgun he'll motion pegas over Jet Sweep no he'll shovel it to Fannon Fannon up past the 10 yd line still reaching forwards towards the five Harold Fanon down at the seven yd line and that'll move the sticks and love the trickery there I mean you fake the hand off and then just Shuffle It Forward teams don't expect that and I mean it's not something that you necessarily plan for all the time unless you're playing a team like the Kansas City Chiefs under two minutes of play here in the third quarter first and goal from the seven yd line Stuart checks back into the game two rece receivers either side Jaylen Tilman the lone man near side pegas going to motion back and forth across the formation Stuart going to get the ball going left side got a white wide open Lane terion Stewart cruises in for a second touchdown of the game last time it was from Seven this time it's from Seven terion Stewart adds on to that BG lead and we have flags on the field I think this might be an excessive [Applause] celebration I think number four might have hit a back flip there in the end zone and that was a little bit too far for the ref's taste 331 the score here pending the extra point that I'm sure will get backed [Music] up after overport like conduct off number and the unsportsman like conduct penalty going to hit terion Stewart is number first that's his first un Sportsman let conduct he gets another he will be disqualified so I'm sure coach leeler is giving him quite the talk over there on the sideline trying to make sure he doesn't do that again snap his back hold his down kick is up the extra point is through 3410 BG leads after a fantastic drive that was extended by a brilliant play call on fourth down and a country mile yeah I mean you don't see that too often and going kind of back to the ramp Reese how important was them kicking the extra point and not going for two now now that they're still down three scores with it I think depending on you know BG starting to feel it a little bit more now I am going to say that it maybe not might not even come back to matter but I don't want to put an announc there's Jinx on it 3410 no media timeout there's going to send us straight into this next kickoff from Zack long he's done a pretty good job as the kickoff guy he's had five kickoffs 317 yards he's averaging over 63 a kick two touchbacks and this kick is going to be from the 20 I believe as well because of the penalty looks like that is correct that unsportsmanlike penalty call enforced here on the kickoff so forom with an opportunity to either break a big one or at least get some really good field position in a drive where uh we've said it before and I'll say it again you absolutely have to score here yes absolutely you have to cut this lead in half BG leads by 24 3410 with a buck 21 to play in the third quarter here and now you probably go for two if you get a touchdown I think this is the situation where you'd want to do that Zack long standing at his own 10 yd line getting ready to put that bionic right leg of his into [Applause] action and overend going to be fielded at the 10 yd line by Hatfield and he is wrapped up that special teams unit doing all of the dirty work at the 25 yd line goes Mason Hatfield what a fantastic open field tackle and that made that return pretty minimal Patrick day in there on the tackle had to play a lot of safety last year but he truly is just a phenomenal special teamer first down and 10 from the 26 yd line takes over for forom minute 15 to play in the third quarter they Trail 34 4 10 three receivers out wide two nearing that near side boundary back to the left of Montes is luid play action Chase Davis getting in there montz going to scramble to the right side he's going to step out of bounds before a bone crushing hit would have been delivered from CJ Brown again knowing how to protect yourself and saying okay do I want to get a big hit and get hurt possibly risk that or do I want to step out outside out of bounds and certainly a business decision for one of the better quarterbacks in the FCS where there's plenty more football to play as of course it is only August under a minute to play in the third quarter second down seven from the 28 yd line montz going to hand it off to luff Ridge Lu Ridge going left side up to the 30 yd line they're really trying with a deception though slow handoffs and it's like what are they going to do are they going to hand it off are they going to go RPO what's what's up here that RPO offense slowly starting to take over at the college football level four receivers wide trips near side man on island Far Side Garrett Cody luid the back again this time to the right of Montes shotgun snap shallow drop now forced out evades one sack men diving At His Feet Mont is going to take off with some grass ahead of him gets past the first down marker and steps Out of Bounds at the 42 yd line look at the wheels on that guy I mean he just said okay fine you're going to come after me I'm going to take off and get through you and he got the first down that'll take us to the end of the third quarter here at doy Perry Stadium BG leads forom 3410 but forom putting together another really good drive oh when we come back it'll first down and 10 from the 42 ydd line for forom don't go anywhere we'll be right back here on Falcon [Music] radio Melissa from Michigan I work an extra part-time job serving lunch at my from 1945 to 1965 are five times more likely to have Hepatitis C the good news is that now it can be cured talk with your doctor about getting a blood test for hepatitis C know for sure a message from the CDC my mother was always very active and independent and she was familiar with her neighborhood but one day she stopped at the stop sign for much longer than usual she wasn't even really sure where she was at it's important for you to talk to someone about it I felt so much better after my son told me Mom will figure it out when something feels different it could be Alzheimer's now is the time to talk visit alz.org ourstories to learn more a message from the Alzheimer's Association and the Ad Council 15 more minutes to go here in regulation 24 points the difference between Bowling Green and FCS forom PG on top 34 to1 but forom with the football and they've looked really really good and CJ Montes quite the improviser yeah totally different game versus the first half to the second I mean forom has put together some good drives 15 fresh minutes and the TV media timeout comes to an end three receivers wide twins near side Maki Felton in the slot Lu Ridge the back to the left play action throw far side and wrapped up and thrown down hard was Cole Thornton quick catch quick tackle and that's kind of what they've found has worked when CJ Montes isn't scrambling for his life they just throw those quick hitters on the comeback out are over the middle and they're just slicing and dicing their way through this BG defense and the defensive line really hasn't even been able to get much pressure and when they do it's you know he picks it up easily and uses his feet L rdge spun over top at the 45 yd line adding to what you just said reys I mean Bowling Green is the bigger and more physical team when you compare them to forom so I mean that's why it's easier for him to get through the line or whatever so as a result that's what you got to do those quick hitters Ricky Parks the back now he stands to the left of Montes and some laundry on the field both sides of course pointing to each other but this one going to be a false start against forom third down and six turns to third down and 11 with under 14 to play here in regular ation from the 46 back to the 41 yd line if Bowling Green can hold on and win Rees it's it would be a big win here at the doy for the history of it the record it' be win number 175 four receivers wide for this Ram Squad Montes to throw press or line holds up now montz going to tuck it and run he's hit hard again Donnie Stevens has been laying the wood so far tonight that's going to bring up fourth down saw an open Lane but it closed up quickly thanks to number 10 the Oklahoma State transfer fourth down and four offense going to stay out there what's up with the quarterbacks taking off all of a sudden he's just feeling I I feel like he's feeling the Need for Speed he's finally seeing some Lanes opening up and when he sees him he just takes him especially when there's nothing open cuz this BG secondary has outside of one or two plays that were really big this PG secondary has done a really good job in coverage yeah 1306 injury timeout I mean they've done so good that we haven't gotten too many passes downfield montz only 9 of 14 for 131 yards he had that 30 yd touchdown right out of the break and outside of that you know BG secondary a really good job McKai Felton was the injured Ram he was able to walk off under his own power but slowly glad to see he is good enough to get off without any assistance for receivers wide montz with luid to his right pressure luid dumped off screen pass up past the first down marker and hit hard talk about staying composed Bowling Green had a free rusher and Montes still was able to toss it downfield and they were still able to run and get the first down and that's the beautiful part of the screen is that it's usually open so quickly that even if there is a free rusher which I mean Trent Sims was coming like a cannonball shot out and he was still able to dump it off didn't feel much pressure and luid takes it for a first down with 12 13 left to go here in regulation and it looks like that play is going to be reviewed for targeting there was no flag on the field but the referees after a little bit of discussion going to decide to review this one so we're going to go ahead and step aside while they review it when we come back we'll have the verdict don't go anywhere we'll be right back here on Falcon radio hi this is Dave goer radio play byplay review there was found to be targeting it's going to be a personal foul against Bowling Green Darius McLendon he has been ejected for the remainder of the game and will likely be ejected for the first half of next week's Penn State game game that was a very long review first down and 10 now Park's going to keep it up the left side and pick up about four yards going from the 31 to the 27 it's going to bring up second down and six now 11:45 to go here in regulation time right now working against the Rams trying to hurry it up how to make up three scores we certainly haven't seen a lot of huddles from this forom squad three receivers set Parks still the back to the right of Montes Montes play action steps up in the pocket he's going to take it and run to the left side trying to get the first down marker we'll see where they spot him he ran out of bounds right around where he needed to get they're going to say you stepped out about a yard shy I think that's the right call from up here it looked like like that but again Mont is doing what he has to do to make it third down and manageable first down and 10 Etc third down and one from the 21 yd line trying to break into the Red Zone again Park's going to take it up the middle a host of Falcons there and I think he was just able to break the line to gain although it looks like the far official is coming up just a little bit shy and it looks like a big third down stop from BG is going to force fourth and one for this forom squad 1035 to play here in the fourth quarter Park still the back I imagine they give it right back to him Montes will keep it on the option going right side picks up a big chunk of yardage sliding past the 15 yd line they'll spot him down at the 13 he's slow to get up as well he's hitting the helmet I could hear it from up here but that was a very smart play call I mean in those situations I mean even Reese you expected it you think you're going to hand it up up the middle and in that situation Montes kept it himself and move the chain the entire BG defense was with me and Montes saw that made a good read pulled it and picked up nine on fourth down and one that'll bring first and 10 under 10 to play Montes throws over the middle incomplete nobody home he was trying to find KJ Reed but he threw that into triple coverage and Reed was just not ready for it second down and 10 952 to play clock stops through the incomplete pass line to gain is the two yd line 3410 BG leads here in the late stages of this one three receivers wide on an island near side is Garrett Cody luid the back Montes to throw going for the End Zone incomplete right through the hands of the tight end Matt Buon and that's going to force third down and 10 now he had him too I mean it went right through Baron's hands and third down and 10 that's going to hurt if they do not score looks like the safety CJ Brown the transfer from niou a former two-time all ma nominee Baron just had a step on him and Montes put it in the perfect spot but it fell right through his hands third down and 10 Stadium seems to have cleared out as it's cooled off a little bit 946 to play here 24-point lead for BG four receivers wide trips Far Side KJ Reed in the slot Montes all alone in the back field and a timeout going to be called on the field look like Bowling Green is the one who took it bing green and yes they did that'll be their first timeout of the half and we'll go ahead and take that timeout with them third down and 10 from the bg12 when we come back 3410 Falcons lead with 946 left to go here in regulation don't from the 12 yd line for forom 946 to play here in the final quarter of Regulation here in Bowling Green ree patriz Kon nap happy to have you folks so long here in this one what has been a great game essentially from wire to wire no matter who you're really a fan of they did not get that off and it looks like we're going to have they did get the timeout off just in time the clock read double zeros and it looked like they were about to get hit with a big delay of game penalty but just in the nick of time coach conin calls his first timeout of the half and that's one of those timeouts that you do not want to use he's probably not happy with that at all and Phil Sims has a quote about timeouts he said it in the second half of Super Bowl 50 and that was the most recent time he said it he said in the second half keep your timeouts like they're gold and that could not be closer to the truth all right so we mentioned earlier that this tonight is the first time since 2019 that Bowling Green has opened the season at home this is just I I like I like fun facts I'm a fun fact guy the leading passer for that game Darius Wade who followed leer here from Boston College 22 of 32 passing for 253 yards Andrew CLA was the leading rusher in that game Quinton Morris had two touchdowns now with the Buffalo Bills and Julian Ortega Jones led the Falcons in receiving with 16 9 yards on five catches crazy at what a difference five years makes Montes forced out to his right trying to stiff over a guy and he gets dumped Joseph SI for a tfl and that's going to bring up fourth down that one felt like he almost tried to do too much he's like am I going to run it am I going to pass it and he was out of the pocket probably would been murder to throw away because you're in a fourth down and you have to go for a situation now fourth down and 14 after a loss of four is going to go as a sack instead of a tfl 912 and Counting here in the fourth quarter trying to cut this lead in half 3410 BG Leads Here on opening night Montes drop back had Dantes Brown in his face dumps it off to Lu Ridge nowhere to go Joseph sip again making his mark on this Game Stops Lu Ridge on fourth down and that'll turn the ball over the F first and 10 something you can't do on fourth down is throw the ball short of the line to gain especially that short of it and I think the situation there was Montes had a very very big man in Dantes Brown listed at 63300 barreling down at him coming off of the edge so I think he just kind of had to get rid of that one before he took a loss uh on fourth down BJ is going to take over on their own 14 yd line but not after we step not before we step aside for another media timeout we'll be right back here BG leads 3410 on Falcon [Music] radio imagine being fired because of who you love imagine being denied medical treatment Because of Who You Marry imagine being evicted because of who you are millions of Americans don't have to imagine this they have to live it because class what you did this weekend well my dad and I went in search of some magical and found a zillion of them in the stream from our Lookout Rock then my sister and I escaped from an evil Slug King and went back to my super twig Fort for safety then we told stories till it got dark and the Big Dipper led us all the welcome back out of the media time out 851 to play here in the fourth quarter 3410 BG lead starting at their own 14 yd line and I imagine this is going to be the drive where they just try and run the ball down the throat of this forom squad and put a dagger in this one and that they do on first down Patterson takes the ball right side going to get stopped just shy of the 20 yard line but still a good gain nonetheless five yards on first down will bring up second down in medium and we do have an update not from a MC game but from a game that I'm sure most of America is watching right now if they're of course not tuned into to this one it's halim out in Boulder North Dakota State another FCS school is currently on on top of Deon Sanders Colorado Buffalo's 20 to 17 of course plenty of time left to play in that one but just something to watch basel's going to throw looking over the middle of the field now he's going to dump it off Jamal Johnson High pointed catch past the first down marker tackled just shy of the 30 or rather they'll say he got just past the 25 that'll still move the chains now with 8 minutes to play here in the fourth nice catch there I mean was behind him the pass and was able to get a first down and the Bowling Green really trying to put that final nail in the coffin 34-10 they lead first and 10 from their own 27 baslac under Center Stewart the tail back Smith goes in motion they fake the hand off to him dump back pass to Stewart stwart makes a man miss he's got some grass in front of him nothing but men feeling his jet speed 10 five touchdown a hat trick for terion Stewart here on Thursday night 40-1 the Falcons lead and terion Stewart tells the entire forom defense to eat my dust yeah he did I mean there was a bunch of white jerseys around him at first and all of a sudden you saw him get through it and then he was out in the open and when you're in a one-on-one battle with him and it comes down to speed he's going to win almost every single time it truly isn't fair you try and tackle him he's going to run you over or he's just going to step out of the way or just run straight past you it's you can't really pick a decision extra point on the way from clether that one is through another make for clether now 4110 the score here in Bowling greenio listic fors well I mean it was scary for Bowling Green for about 2 minutes 00 and then they really ended that narrative forom looked like they were finally putting it together coming out of that halftime break and all it really took was one stop for BG and aside from that last Drive where they got inside the 15 yd line and then turned it over on Downs it really hasn't been fom's night offensively 728 to play here in the fourth quarter 4110 Bowling Green leads Zack long getting ready to kick it off away here after the terion Stewart touchdown 73 yards to pay dirt for number four he's up to 16 161 excuse me yards on the night and three touchdowns on just 14 carries I don't know how good you are at math Kaden but that averages out to about 112 yards a carry that's pretty darn good in my book yes it is I mean anytime you could get more than 10 yards for reception carry you know you're doing something right Zack long on to kick it [Music] away this now the seventh time he's had the kickoff Duty up to 642 yards per boot the run up and the send away catfield Fields it at his own own goal line trying to create a lane and steps Out of Bounds at his own 15 yd line didn't want to take a hit there and that's where forom will take back over inside their own 20 yd line I will say that was an interesting decision deciding to go near the sideline running out of room instead of trying to turn upfield left initially but I mean it was smart running out of bounds like he did to avoid getting hit at the end first and 10 from their own 15 yd line come out the forom Rams two receivers going to take the field either side of the formation Lu Ridge the back standing to the left of Montes free rusher they're going to throw a screen to Cody Cody tripped up gets out of bounds just shy of the 20 Justin Eckland came in unblocked the San Jose State transfer we're at the point in the game where it's like do you put in your backups yet I feel like at this point yeah you're risking injury but it's also reps against an FBS school yes so these are all still very valuable especially for you know who you got for on the rest of your schedule at the FCS level high snap montz going to throw airs it out over the middle of the field he's going for Cody and just a little bit too strong air milled it slightly Jaylen Burton in coverage Garrett Cody had to step on Burton if the pass would have been on him he might still be running but he overthrew it might have had something to do with the fact that the wind was carrying that football he had just a slight step on Cody but just a little bit too strong from the right arm of montz third down and 8 646 left to go here in the fourth quarter 4110 BG leads BG showing pressure here on Third and medium Montes to throw steps up in the pocket he's going to run with it hit and drag down past the 20 yard line looks like he's going to be just shy of that line to gain nether the 25 he got up to the 22 now just they're going to send out the pting UN I was about to say I mean it's at the point of the game where it's like do you really want to go for it and risk not getting it and allowing another touchdown to make it look worse for the box score Watchers sure in this situation I think this is just the right play right play Call of course they could pull Scott ler and you know pull something a little tricky out it is only fourth down and two I will say that punt off the foot of Haslet away it's going to bounce at the 45 off the hands of pegas and it looks like he was able to get back on top of it at the own at his own 23 yd line that was almost a dangerous play for that Bowling Green special teams unit that has done a really good job so far tonight yeah they really have I mean sometimes especially for those bounces it's the low percentage time that you're going to get a good return so I would probably just let it bounce for there and let you know the Rams get on it it's usually not a good idea if you're going back if you're already going backwards I think in that situation you just have to let it roll there's no sense in losing yards on the punt return or having that happen in that situation whistles down on the field time out Bowling Green Bowling Green going to call a timeout second their second of the half we're going to go ahead and keep it here no media timeout necessary 555 left to play here in the fourth quarter and just a little bit of history for you now so in the last 11 season openers for Bowling Green they're two and nine and unless we've you know a a miracle from God comes down odds are they're going to be 3 and N here in about 555 in game time the last time they hosted a hosted the season opener of course as we've kind of beaten like a dead horse was 2019 against Morgan State the time before that in the last 11 Seasons 2013 versus Tulsa that 2013 season Bowling Green went on to win the mid- American Conference so all I'm saying is that history is looking pretty good for this Bowling Green Team but I won't get too far ahead of myself cuz of course it's only week one it's only August there's still plenty of time for things to go either way for BG on the handoff going right side only a couple yards gained there by Chris Edmonds the red shirt freshman yeah the backups into the game for Bowling Green for injured on the defense and we have a injury on forom and as you said said backups are in Lucian Anderson taking over at quarterback Chris Edmonds the red shirt freshman from Toledo Central Catholic a local kid won a couple of state championships with that Fighting Irish Squad good seemingly every single year it's like how do they do it in a way but they're just at football Powerhouse you know kind of on the topic of history today I was bored so I just turned on the 2014 iron bow and there's you know the FBS playoffs or FCS excuse me playoffs go on during that time and you know random game just popped up in the es ban ticker at the bottom and it was Sacred Heart versus forom and forom won 44-22 I found that a weird coincidence and like if all games you know there's thousands what a way to tie it back into tonight Mike Thorne the defensive lineman the injured player on that last play a gain of three by Edmonds brings up second down and seven as both teams take back over some of these young guys getting some snaps that they really haven't seen a whole lot of uh especially in the past Trey Johnson Jared MC and one other guy whose number I cannot see right now due to the angle in at receiver handoff going right side no lucian's going to keep it himself up the left side past the 40 yd line and pushed Out of Bounds at the 41 goes Lucian Anderson on the bootleg QB keeper well we knew he was a speed I mean he had a nice gain earlier I believe it went for a touchdown or at least set him up inside the 5 yd line but he's a running quarterback wind sharp that third receiver in he's he's a true freshman coming from another local Powerhouse and Anthony Wayne as this handoff goes right side carrying guys along with him that looks like ceron excuse me Marquel Porter another freshman he's from Texas and you know how well they breed football stars down in Texas and two different sidebars here we'll start with wind sharp I when I talked to Coach Eric Campbell or as they call him arounde Coach sup the wide receivers coach I asked him if there was any freshman receiver that could step up so far this season as Porter gets the handoff again going right side and he's just making guys miss over and over again stumbling up past that first down marker there is a flag on the field so we'll see if that stands but I asked him if there was any newcoming receiver or really it was just freshman who would it be and he answered with wind sharp he's a big guy it looks like it's offensive holding on the play so the first down is negated and they'll walk backwards replay second down he said he's big he's fast he's picking up the game quickly he's already seeing college football at the college football speed you know of course as we know college football much faster than high school football um and he's a guy who could if need be contribute this year and then also going back to the running backs at MAC football kickoff when we spoke with um coach leer I asked him you know trying to kind of keep it on topic is another gain of about four on second down and 12 Chris Edmonds gets up to the 43 43 yd line or so that'll bring up third down and seven I asked him if there's a group of freshmen who could make an impact his answer was the running backs he they came in big they came in Fast and they're showing it here Anderson's going to throw he hits Jamal Johnson who's immediately hit hard and wrapped down by mathani Paul Swinson I mean being able to have have freshman that you're confident in and give them reps at a relatively young age it's just very key because I mean with really anything in general I mean the more reps you get and the younger you are the better it is going to be for the long run exactly especially on this Bowling Green team that has 33 seniors yes there's a lot of guys who aren't going to be returning next year so in games like this you want to get those young guys those freshmen the red freshman the sophomores who don't normally see the field you want to get them in in this situation Henderson's punt a booming kick that's going to bounce take a nice BG roll inside the five and be down right there at the 5 yd line what a great punt from John Henderson and a great great job by the BG punt coverage team 248 left to play as forom takes over down 31 that back bounce was just Fant fantastic he put a very nice little bit of touch on that that made it you know fly Skyhigh and allowed the coverage unit to get down there and down it inside the 5 yd line or rather right at the five I feel like most kicks tonight have gone to the left side whether it's been in the North or the South starter still in for forom three receivers wide two Far Side play action going to try and hit Garrett Cody on a slant route looks like he was able to haul that one in Jaylen Burton in coverage that'll move the chains now with two and a half to play just about here in regulation reys to me that play looked like montz had kind of tunnel vision for Cody there he was looking for him the whole way and waited just for him to get a little bit open and that little bit of Separation yes paper going flying that BG wind still very famous as Parks is still run and finally brought [Music] down TJ Nelson another freshman getting some reps here in this one we hit we finally hit the two-minute warning so we'll go ahead and step aside 4110 Bowling Green leads when we come back second down and four from the 28 yd for bedom don't go anywhere we'll be right back here on Falcon [Music] radio Jill why don't you tell the class what you did this weekend well my dad and I went in looks like the backup's finally in for the Rams Jack kaliy takes over at quarterback only attempted one pass last year it was a completion for 32 yards but instead he'll go ahead and hand it off to the tail back stutter stepping around trying to make something happen he got close to the line he needed to get looks like he'll be just [Applause] [Music] shy that'll bring up third down and one a buck 36 and Counting left to go here he Capaldi to throw incomplete tried to hit near side Jack binck that was just not a good throw in he's no longer 100% passy again that comeback route got a nice little bit of Separation but just underthrown a little bit fell in front of Betton Capaldi trying the hard count now he's going to hand it off going up the middle easily picking up the first down is the tailback that'll move the chains and stop the clock for just a second minute 26 Chris Willams with the for the fountain clock continues taking away that's one of those was like okay well if we don't get it BG's just going to kneel the clock out if we do get it well we'll just continue taking our time because this one's all but over looks like Jack Kaiser is the tail back now for forom he'll take it up the right side gets up to the 40 yd line before being bent over backwards by a wall of falcons up not what you want to see I mean look like it hurt especially as the backup you're like I finally get my reps and then ah second down and five now BG's defense the course the backups in but let's talk a little bit about the starters on defense I mean outside of maybe a couple drives as Capal he goes to throw over the middle finds a wide open Jack Betton and he is stumbling into the End Zone touchdown forom you could tell he that really took all everything out of him he was running and running and running and he was like I'm getting this touchdown the first passing touchdown of Jack kali's career comes on a big [Applause] hitter that one went a very very long way now as they cut into this lead a little bit maybe just a little bit too late 4116 they trail with 24 seconds remaining here in the fourth that pass went for 60 yards from Kali to Betton extra point up and good from Bennett Henderson 4117 BG will take back over following the kickoff and again back to what we were saying BG starters on defense I mean outside of the one drive where you allow them to march down the field quickly and then you allow a big touchdown and then that drive right before the end of the half where they March down and you were able to slow them down and hold them to three but the coverage and coverage you were great 13 of 21 you held Montes to 13 to 21 159 yards and just one touchdown and Montes was sacked five times in this one and I mean it was the defense was simply just suffocating you how you hold rather a very high power a very high octane forom Rams offense to just 17 points and of course like we mentioned earlier this isn't the same forom team um as last year they lost quite a bit but it's still you know the blueprint is still there the quarterback is still there you're still you retain two you retain two of your three leading receivers your leading rushers back and you're still able to do this to them on your home turf and the offense as well I mean we'll talk more about it in post game but it was an it was a really dominant victory in all three phases of the game Henderson to send it away fair catch called for inside the 10 yd line of course now we get the fair catch first time we've gotten the fair catch in the kickoff today Rakeem Smith back there to receive it calls the fair catch 24 4 seconds on the clock and I imagine Connor baslac and the starters are back out there simply just to take one more kneel down and send this game to Triple zeros count against your rushing yards I still don't know I mean I would not give you negative rushing yards for a QB knee I think that should be exempt I mean I I think I in concept I I would agree but also I mean it is just a a rush backwards but I digress baslac takes a knee and the clock will not stop both teams exiting their sideline BG for the first time since 2019 is 1 and0 4117 they take down the forom Rams and what was a wire to wire all three phases Victory we're going to step aside for a little bit we come back with the postgame breakdown we'll be right back don't go anywhere we'll be
