[Music] a quick jolt and several seconds of shaking that's what most of the Southland felt Monday afternoon during a 4.4 magnitude earthquake that geologists say struck near Highland Park Adrian Cruz lives in Highland Park and says this one was definitely felt he's at a local pet groomer picking up his dog Shia after he felt the shake at a nearby cafe just having a normal conversation when we felt the rumbling under the sidewalk we were sitting outside ring on the sidewalk the drinks shook the whole Cafe shook there was rattling of glass across SoCal officials say they're still surveying potential damage but so far nothing major to report in Pasadena a water pipe burst at City Hall which caused some minor flooding but Crews were able to get a handle on that fairly quickly there were also reports of fire Crews having to rescue people from an elevator inside City Hall but luckily no one was seriously hurt seismologist Dr Lucy Jones says this Quake is on a fault line that has the potential for major damage there have been models for earthquakes in this on this fault up to magnitude 7 and A2 uh we'll argue whether or not that's really feasible um but clearly it's one of the most potentially damaging earthquakes because it runs under from here to downtown Los Angeles and therefore you have a lot of older buildings that are right on top of it and therefore overall it's more dangerous than than many others experts say signing up for early alert apps is the best way to prepare for the so-call called big one Adrian says one of the first texts he sent out was to his friend who moved to Los Angeles 6 months ago and has already felt two earthquakes in a span of seven days his his immediate response was do they come this often SoCal residents bracing for the next one because as far as what to expect with earthquakes experts say the only thing to know for sure is that there's always another one on the way thanks for watching our YouTube channel for more stories in your community click the Subscribe button here you can also download the Spectrum news app or watch us on TV for the latest information balanced coverage weather updates every 10 minutes and more we'll see you then
