[Music] Jordan Mason running back for the San Francisco 49ers there's some Buzz that he could become the number two running back on the depth charge is there any truth to that I there is growing uh momentum for Jordan Mason to be the number two back I have thought I like Elijah Mitchell a lot but the guy can't stay healthy but he still is good but I've thought that Jordan Mason has been the better looking back as an undrafted free agent in these preseason games and even when he gets into regular season games that Jordan Mason has a better run style and he's just as good of a receiver that he should have been taken more seriously to be the back up to be the Handcuff for Christian mcaffrey now Mitchell came out of the gates when when San Francisco had run uh moster injuries when Mitchell first came into the league then they had uh I think moster got hurt and then I forget who the number two was it might have been Jeff Wilson at the time whoever the number two was got hurt may it was Trey Surman like go and have to go back in history of Fallen running backs I think it was moster then Surman could be wrong about that but whoever it was week one they both got hurt they throw Elijah Mitchell in and he goes off in his debut game and then he ends up having a really nice season but he kept getting hurt and then coming back and getting hurt but so everybody was like okay Elijah Mitchell is this is our guy then they go get Christian mcaffrey because I think they knew we can't rely on Elijah Mitchell for long he keeps getting hurt so mcaffrey in Mitchell ends up being the number two Mason would get some time in and out Mason would get the run out games like in the fourth quarter when they were up by a ton and he would just bully run uh his way to kind of grind out the rest of the game so for the last couple years I've been I've been kind of pulling for and thinking Jordan Mason is the better running back than Elijah Mitchell and Elijah Mitchell is good why isn't Jordan Mason getting more of a run in the regular season last year Elijah Mitchell got in different spots got a lot of time as the relief back for mcaffrey they don't relieve him very often but when they did it was Mitchell when he wasn't hurt and Mason barely played so I started thinking Shanahan there must be something that Mason is isn't doing or they're worried about his ball security or what have you why he's not going to the more dominant Runner to me uh and just as good a uh receiver but then out of nowhere reports start coming out about um Mason running as the first number two bat when mcaffrey is out Mason is the first one in so when I heard that I was like this is they're going to pull the rug out from under me Lucy's going to pull the football away when I go to kick it I I cannot fall in love with Jordan Mason again like don't do it I had just cut as it made me think of a dynasty League uh that I'm in with a uh friend and it's a deep roster to where like Jordan Mason was the like one of the last guys probably on a roster talent wise like the first to be cut so something come up some some rookie from this year didn't get drafted and I'm like yeah let's pick him up and let's just dump Jordan Mason because they drafted gendo they got Elijah Mitchell they obviously don't want Jordan Mason to be the number two back so we can move on from Jordan Mason let's get uh I think it was for uh Luis uh ree zamit I wanted to take a shot on him so I'm like I'm just wasting my time with a roster spot with Jordan Mason then all of a sudden word starts coming out about him being the number two and I was like yeah this is going to sucker me but then and I want to get this quote right so I've got it printed out in front of me when I saw Kyle Shanahan say this when the reporters asked him about Mason running number two uh the first guy after mcaffrey in practices he said nothing against Elijah but JP which is Jordan Mason's nickname but JP runs at a very high level that is a damning statement right that I mean that is what you want to hear if you're a Jordan Mason owner in in Dynasty fantasy that's what you want to hear if you're Elijah Mitchell if you're if you got mcaffrey and you've been holding Mitchell and you got that onew punch and you think you're safe if you're relying on Mitchell or if you got Mitchell separate of CMC hoping you know CMC will something will happen with him and Mitchell all a sudden will rise up and become a star out of nowhere you did not want to hear this coming out of Kyle Shanahan's mouth so I don't think he's trying to fire up Mitchell I don't think I think he believes Mason is the better back because what I've seen over the past couple years really since the first time um Mason came in as an undrafted free agent what I watched to him at Georgia Tech but then when I see saw of him in his rookie preseason I'm like this guys's got it obviously because he's he's stuck on the roster for so many years but he never never got that he would have great moments and great runs but he would never get that trust factor from Shanahan now all of a sudden Shanahan says this oh my and gendo's got another hamstring and Mitchell's probably banged up again and then there's there's a a ball of muscle with speed Jordan Mason ready to to do preseason damage like he always does but now it looks like Shanahan's getting on the Jordan Mason train so I'm all for it RC you got me really excited about Mason putting our Dynasty hats on I know you dropped them in one of your leagues like do is this guy a must ad as your last spot on Dynasty rosters then I fabbed and got him back last week had to pay the price to get them had to pay five times what the second person was willing to bid on them because I got myself so excited I did not want to miss out on it because because when you think of the best situations that a number two running back could stumble their way into because of an issue an injury or whatever to the obvious starter is there any better situation for a running back to fall into than the San Francisco one there are are are other talented number two running backs out there in the NFL more talented than Jordan Mason but I'm just saying situationally if you were going to want to run behind any offensive line in any um coaches offense is there anything better than San Francisco and if there is maybe it's the Detroit Lions uh maybe the Rams are another but it's top three it's top two it's arguably number one so that puts the spe that puts extra special sauce on Jordan Mason for dynasty fantasy because you are one thing happening to CMC away from a talented running back getting elevated and I'm sure he'll split touches with Elijah Mitchell and and maybe gendo but Mason as the lead he's been there for several years so he's got the experience you get Jordan Mason into the CMC spot even sharing with the other guys you got an a for sure rb2 then the question is is he GNA get to rb1 uh or not so that for a guy that I got in the free agent budget process for a pretty decent bargain and that not everybody was bidding on because the news hadn't quite got out there plus there's always something positive on Jordan Mason then it gets taken away from us because we can't have nice things this might be the year that it happens at least that's what I'm telling myself and RC you mentioned how Elijah Mitchell you know he's injury-prone Isaac gendo he's already you know dealing with he's already hamstring hurt what I mean I know cmc's been relatively healthy and I don't want to jinx it nine years fans are probably like thinking Andrew don't even go there but I'm I'm going to go there because the guy does have a checkered injury history himself the Niners have made deep playoff runs for the past three years with him so I mean there's a chance that this guy can't make it through the full season or at least Kyle's going to want to monitor his reps and not you know use them as a Workhorse which opens the door up for someone like Mason you would think that they always say that and then there's mcaffrey taking carries in the fourth quarter when they're up by 28 points they're never gonna no no coach ever p i mean I've seen I've seen Tom Brady playing in the fourth quarter of 40 point and 5050 point leads NFL coaches are insane they are not taking out the thing that is the key to their success until it gets down to like the last two M that's when Jordan Mason gets to come in and run running plays up the middle uh without any flare or design he's just there to run out the clock so but to your point they're going to wear down I mean mcaffrey is going to keep getting touches keep getting touches es and it's only one hit one twist one anything away don't wish it on him don't wish it on any of the players but this is what happens to running backs and it was only a couple years ago that everybody thought mcaffrey is too injury-prone to be drafted highly in fantasy and he's a big disappointment uh because he's always hurt now we've suddenly forgot that he he may play uh injuryf free for the next five years but he does have a history
