happening now if you owned an iPhone 6 or 7 you may be getting money from Apple a BC judge has approved a class action lawsuit over the so-called battery gate issue jeie Lee has been following that story for us okay so what's the latest from the courtroom well Linda the uh judge has approved the $4.4 million settlement uh calling it fair and reasonable and also reviewing um the details of this uh long and protracted case so here are some of the points that she uh um made in order to uh approve this deal and uh basically saying that the action was filed back in 2018 in four different provinces and there was another case also in the US now that issue was whether software updates uh provided by Apple would end up actually slowing down uh the device and um leading to premature deterioration of the device and also of battery life and uh this is why it was commonly called battery gate some people call it throttling um and uh the judge noted that in California the case was settled uh for about $500 million and she used that as or the uh the agreement uh used that case as a rough guidance uh for this particular one in BC now Apple does deny wrongdoing both sides basically agree that to have this go to um a trial would be long and expensive so settlement is more reasonable and eligible claimants if you did own one of these affected models you can expect between $17.50 or up to $150 each and this is based on how many uh claimants actually do the filing so uh those who want to file have 180 days to do so to make their claim they have to prove ownership come up with those serial numbers so if you're one of these owners then you should be digging around your records I guess uh Linda and in Quebec it's uh that's excluded from this because there's a separate case going on there Linda thanks for this Genie you're welcome
