actually think there's valid Arguments for both sides I really do I think this is a great debate if we want to debate it because that third possession is I mean it's a chance if the two teams are tied after two possessions to go for the the kill shot without giving the ball back to Kansas City now there are holes in that argument as well if you have the ball second you know what you need to do which is why Kansas City in an otherwise punt for it or punt situation go for it on Fourth and short in their own territory because they know they have to score and there is a real argument to be made that if if San Francisco Ops to take the ball goes down the field and scores a touchdown and they're up seven and then Kansas City responds with a touchdown you can make a case and I don't know what the correct answer here is that it's wise for Kansas City to go for two and go for the win right then and there put the ball on Patrick mahome hands momes hands One play to win the Super bowl or lose the Super Bowl rather than kick off give the ball to San Francisco for a third possession where all they need to do is kick a field goal to beat you and I I mean I think these are all valid debates I don't think there's an obvious answer some people do but I mean if you have the ball second in overtime and you know if you tie them with a touchdown they get the ball back with a chance to win and you have no chance to respond would you go for two and you might yeah and then you'd risk the IR entire fan base if things don't go the way you want them to I mean it it's the it's the last game of the year you can leave it all out there or you can try to play for another possession and you know trust your defense I get there's tons of arguments and that's what makes it really interesting the new rules are interesting for sure and I didn't I didn't even know it until last night and they were explaining it it's like we started all over over again the both teams even if the first team scores a touchdown the game's not over I'm like oh okay I didn't know that but here we go so it's it's interesting because I don't think either is illogical that's when I get into really argu decisions when I think somebody goes a logical and I don't really think I I understand what Shanahan did now if he didn't know the rule that's a whole different thing but he said was about the third possession that's why he wanted the ball first I'm surprised Doug that you're not more all over Shanahan for making that call because you're a guy who likes to know no no I do like to know so when you defer in overtime you you know what you have to do as an offense you know what I mean yes but I I see the value of the third possession as well it's such slim odds to get there it seems like or I don't want to say slim but it odd seemed to be against you to get to that third possession so it's it's definitely under question as to how often these games will go to a third possession but correct me if I'm wrong this is the first overtime under these rules right we've had about an overtime a year in the postseason since 201 10 it's a little less than one overtime per year but this is the first one with these rules the uh irony of it all is that the chiefs were involved in the game that kind of sparked this new rule against the bills yeah so but yeah I just just knowing you Doug I just thought you know Doug likes to know the rules I like to know as much information as possible and having the ball knowing field goal ties touchdown wins but I know I have to score yeah is a it's valuable but I think there's value in the third possession as well all right so let me ask you cars the coach yeah you win the toss do you defer I don't know yet I'm still thinking it through I honestly am I defer a gator all the every time I probably would defer because I want to know what the other team has done I agree that okay now that you now that hang on because now that You' deferred first team comes down they score a touchdown you get the ball back you come down you score a touchdown you're going for two absolutely okay there's a huge problem with deferring that if you get to a seventh quarter the other team gets the ball first then too you don't defer seventh quarter you choose to kick you don't defer a seventh quarter it could happen you could get to a you could get to a seventh quarter where they it would be like a halftime and you would have to kick off so you don't defer your choice you choose to kick off okay um although if you if you go to if you defer well let's not worry about it if you actually the crazy thing is if you defer the other team can choose then that you get the ball first they can make that choice for you right because if you defer it's your choice right and then if you get to a seventh quarter if you chose to kick then they get to choose to take the ball so no you're right you do defer my bad but that's all around the seventh quarter op yeah I I worry about the seventh quarter we'll call Doug when he hit the seventh quarter right well if but if you're a coach you need to consider that you could go to seventh quar okay it's under consideration it's way down the list it is down the list but it is there and I was rooting I mean we the seventh quarter we got to think about that right we want the ball or not yeah yeah King's holding up the seven fingers yeah well the thing's in charge of that Gat the thing about it is the longest playoff game in history was a a double overtime game which had the 3 seconds like this game ended with 3 seconds left in what was called the first overtime that would have gone to a double overtime and it was a g your premium field goal against Kansas City that woned for Miami way back in the day but this overtime these overtime scenarios get really [Music] wonky
