Post-Match Thoughts With Niall Canavan: Carlisle United (A)

now obviously first defeat of the Season here at car uh what are your main reflections of the game today um I don't think there's an awful L of the game um a bit of Ni or Tu few decisions go their way ultimately in the end um but I thought you know very even game for the most part I thought second half we were more controlled than first first half it may be shocked for few in terms of what a derby game is got some boys that new to the club and new to S of men's football in a way so yeah a good learning experience but I don't think we did ourselves a disservice we just need to um tidy up certain aspects of our game and we're really in the season like it's it's not the end of the world obviously it's a derby match if we want to win that we understand the importance to everyone Flo but um yeah we're we're progressing and we'll learn from things in today's game and when we played them turn like um I'm pretty sure we'll be in a much better place obiously quite like you say an intense environment here today you think maybe at times a bit of belief was lacked in regards to the ability that you know we possess on the ball and you know some of the patterns play that maybe we've done in recent weeks which weren't quite off today uh maybe I mean I just said to you before we this I thought their Midfield got around very well today and shut down our three boys in there um pretty much every opportunity I don't know if we did lack belief but we maybe got a bit frustrated at how they maybe closed us down at times and they got on top of us quite a lot and we we never really figured out that we might played the first pass second pass that one that just settles everything and breaks their their press probably never really figured that out um as well as we could have done today um which is frustrating as I say so uh probably not the lacking belief but I mean we you know we go to the end there should we scored like what I think is perfect a good goal but you know sometimes you don't get that decision yeah I mean as his teammate she'll quite personally G the him he's come on in the 87th minute you know you already got one job you have one chance to do something with it and he's you know his time is run well and he's done exactly what he needs to do in that moment yeah that's what he sent on to do is AB be to get us a goal he's done that I mean in his own mind I don't think he should think that's not counted he's made a great run he's got in the vager area he's the in there J referees all the linesmen s something different for everyone else I'd say that's the way it's G today um a couple of times just the whistle not vo for I suppose it's important to have that mindset though that even when you feel the majority of the game it's not falling you're getting frustrated that you guys are still going until the 96th minute and you know putting balls in the box and trying to force something to happen yeah there's that relief that you get the chance there's going to be one more chance there going to be that one ball that drops can we get on the en ofy can we be the ones to get the touch on it and the boys have got that like we don't sit down for anyone lay down and you up on it in the fight for the whole game um and we shown that today unfortunately say the man in the middle of he mate on the side of the flag was a bit of a disservice he might be I mean obviously it's hard to sit here and say that now but after the three really tough opening games I'm sure maybe coming into this period if you said you'd be through with the next round of the cup and you'd got one win as well only conceded once in the league you guys would probably have taken that I think positive start um if you take the fact that it's a derby out of it like this is a team that both play two teams that have come down from the division one um and a team that got to the player final last we so um three very good tests and another say like we've come through and we're showing good signs we we're progressing as a team and um we're early on in this cycle with the new gaap a new messages that we're putting in new relationships that are building um thought NE had a great full League day um you know we've got boys that are making their way and it might take time and we're not far off the boys who are just opening in so um yeah full credit to to everyone and it's a good positive start we've got a small Gap now with 3 week um and now it's all systems go again so a quick refresh a quick um Sol assessment of where we're at and and we put the for down and we move forward again obviously a few things changed at the football club over the summer systems have changed on the fields but I suppose what's probably been quite important and you know very evident at the start of the Season it hasn't changed the way how tough you guys are to be and you know you're not a team which is going to a lot goal so yeah and I think you know G's mentioned that in in the viws that he's done previously I think I've said it he's not wanting to rip up everything that was gone before he was very obviously he's played against us so he's very respectful of some of the stuff that we were good at he doesn't want us to lose that resilience and that Dogg that we do have and the ability to get around the pit sh teams out um and it's about building on top of that so um you know hopefully you can see there are changes but we do retain you know a lot of core values and what have made us successful the last couple very much
