president bunick and myself have had a great relationship since I've been here um you know she was not in her current role when I was first hired and and has uh stepped into that role marvelously in my opinion and um you know I told the team something I believe something I feel about her I mean she's been here over 30 years she has three degrees from FAU uh if you find somebody more passionate about this University as a whole uh I'd like to meet him because I haven't and president wck um has been great for us in this program she understands the the value of Athletics from a campus perspective um and the benefits of of having an elite athletics department and so um you know her and and the leadership team on campus was a big reason why we came here you know uh as I've said before I I do believe I've I've seen it um you players and and coaches win games administrations truly you know push you over the top to give you that that extra whatever it takes uh to win championships and uh I think she understands it and it was great to to have her out there at practice to to show the support to the team and uh the second part of your question yeah it's always uh an honor to name the captains I think this year uh maybe more than others because the the competition was so Fierce uh you know we we picked four um pretty standard I guess but also you know there was a a bit of a gap between four and five in terms of the voting and it it seemed like a logical number but um I don't think anybody's surprised by you know Federico Jackson Jaden and and Cam being named captains I I do think you know DayDay Hill was right there Jaden wheeler was right there you know uh Nick Marino uh was right there CJ Campbell was right there so um when you Zeke Mo as a true sophomore uh got a lot of votes so uh it felt good to know one that that those four guys have kind of separated themselves but also that that we have a group right under them so to speak that um does a tremendous job of leading and and has obviously affected a lot of people on this team for them to to goner the amount of votes uh that they did so I was really happy I those four guys' parents and let them know um that their teammates had voted him as Captain and how proud they should be and so uh but with that comes a responsibility in our program you know those guys are are held um to the highest of standards and not the all 10 and something guys don't we don't have very high standards but those guys it's it's there's a a microscope on you you know you're you're as much as we live in a fishbowl as coton division one college football players you know when you're when you're a captain especially in our program there there's a there's a weight that comes with it too and these guys are certainly up for the challenge uh just to qualify before before we move on Maryfield Mangus vure and Ambush no I got that wrong okay yeah fer uh Williams Jaden Williams Jaden Williams okay uh Morango is Jackson not to be an election pundit but it uh it also shows that two kids started their careers here yeah and two kids are moving in and how the two are combined to make one team I I I have I've been I know surprised as pleasantly surprised at the the level of immediate assimilation that that some of these new guys had certainly helps you when you come in in January and you go through the the shovel of of winter conditioning and spring practice and all that you know you you've been through the The Crucible a little bit uh so to speak but I I think it's a great representation of our team too you know you you've got guys like um you know fed and Jaden Williams that that have been here a while fed I mean I think he was here in Carter Administration but um you know it it is kind of nice to have that uh repres presentation of two guys one guy just got here in January one guy got here last year you know and so they they kind of know what it's like to for those other whatever 40 somewhat guys that we had that are that are in their shoes and um I think it's important for those guys you know to to show that you can come in um as an outsider I guess you know to a fairly formed family and and make a difference and it's been been fun to watch how quickly those guys have become Bonafide leaders on our team uh with Cam being named a captain has he taken any more strid than being name the qb1 yeah I mean if if you guys want to call him this I don't see that changing between now and and um next Friday um the Tyreek has had a really good three weeks and um it's certainly no on him and his performance it just cam hasn't cam had a really good spring had a really good summer and has had a really good three weeks of three and a half weeks of camp and so um he just hasn't done anything really to to let go of that spot and um you know it's critical now that we we get the timing and we we get the you know BJ is going to be out so now we we've got a little bit of a different rotation at wide receiver so uh that's going to be critical that those guys get Cam and the the receivers that are going to play against Michigan State get rep after rep after rep so it's official he's one he's QB one okay got it how is his how have you seen him kind of go about leadership and and getting to know all these guys and bonding with them to be named the captain and come in here is pretty different different um this is certainly not to be meant any judgment but I was surprised um Cam's a pretty soft looking guy I I knew that you know he's a do everything right guy so he he certainly leads by example um and so much so that I I asked our Str coach I said hey what am I missing you know I I I love the kid I I'm excited to go do battle with him and all of that but I just didn't think he had that so quickly and he's said coach there's a lot of stuff he does that that you don't see so um that's a big compliment to him for to surprise me that that means he's he's doing a lot behind the scenes um that has really captured you know the the hearts and minds of a lot of this team it seems like in the scrimmage it's been a little bit of a struggle to stretch the field how do you feel like he'll go about improving that as time time goes on for the Deep passes well a couple things one you know we I don't know that he struggled as much as the you know the the moving parts around him when you you try to take those shots um yeah I haven't been displeased I I do think it's noticeable you know the the lack of downfield explosiveness um you know we are who we are at wide receiver and and tight end and and those skill position so um you know I won I was part of a team that that won 10 games uh in 2018 and we were one of only two teams in the entire country in division one to have to not have an offensive play over 50 yards um and we won 10 games now the other team that did it won two so you don't want to live like that but if you protect the ball and you're you're you're great at all the other stuff um you got to capitalize on those because so you know they're they're harder to man mure when you're maybe don't quite have the you know four three guys on on the outside you know to to Really push that ball down the field but uh I think you'll see having coach guys like cam you're you're going to see a bit of a different feeling offense when we take that Mike Jersey off him and defenses have to um defend against him tucking the ball down and and running around a little bit and so um having coach quarterbacks like that now he's not might Vic or but he he's going to make a lot of plays with his feet this year and um that's just part of the game that can't be simulated you know in practice coach you have any update on uh scarly Charlie FR scarly G oh scarly G yes um he's got a mild uh MCL spr midlevel MCL spring uh going to be immobilized for a week uh so he he will not play in the first game um and then it's just going to be how fast that think it could be 3 weeks it could be 6 weeks is is the way I understand we're anticipating him coming back pretty pretty quickly okay good well that's some good news he'll miss a couple games I would imagine but hopefully not more than Dev got it at the receiver position it seemed like J Shawn had a good scrimmage do you see him stepping up into a big role this year we need him to yeah Jon Flatt um he would tell you has been a bit inconsistent but when he flashes he's he he shows us what he's capable of he's had a great off season great off season um a guy that's really turned a corner in our program I wasn't sure if he was going to make it this time last year and he's done everything right up until this point to to get him in this position so uh you know we we got 10 or so more days for him to continue he he's improved every day and we're going to need him to to be at his best you know on Friday cuz he's going to play a big big part in that that game last one for me um you mentioned you had to think about the kicker position I was wondering if you thought about it at all and if if there's been any more advancements yeah I thought about it and the thought is we got more time we have time um uh and those guys appreciate that you know they're they're in no hurry and I think we owe it to the team but we owe it to those guys too to make sure that if it's this close this late then we we let them keep battling until until it becomes clear [Music] [Applause]
