be introduced today is of course a cult classic and I'm joined by the man responsible for making it that way Tim was it a hard decision for you to to bring this back after 36 years did did you scratch your head a lot than no I mean during up until this point yes but I felt like I couldn't make this movie in 1989 it really had to do with you know thinking about the Lydia character and what happens to people you know go from cool teenager to screwed up adults you know and what happens to people in those 35 years relationships children you know and because we all change during these times you know you don't stay a cool teenager forever um so that's the thing that inspire you seen three generations of these uh women mother daughter granddaughter that was sort of anchor for me of wanting to do it you have such a brilliant vision and I feel like if anyone has remained a cool teenager at heart it's you no I was not a cool teenager and now yeah so it's but I mean making this film again did it make you um sort of relive the fun I guess at being yes it did I mean we we we tried to do it like in the spirit of the first one we shot it quickly all the actors contributed to characters making up stuff every day which is hard to do when you're doing live effects but I had everybody on board getting into that same spirit so you know it was rushed and it was chaotic but it was also gave it a lot of energy and fun to make and you didn't want to go down the route of using CGI no no it was in the spirit of the first one it was you know it's not it's not going of winning an Academy Awards for special effects but it's okay it was still fun but you might win Academy Awards for makeup don't dare we not it doesn't matter it is but my point is is that it was very part of the DNA to do it in that Spirit um can we ask when when you first saw Michael Keaton back in the beatle juice outfit then what was that moment it was strange because we didn't rehearse anything so he just shows up and he starts doing it it's weird it was like demon possession I could see the crew going like oh my God you know it it was like a weird going into a Time Warp has it been strange that it introduced himself as a character that is such a ubiquitous part of popular culture a life of its own people keep asking how has he evolved and we just laugh because he has tool I love it it's wonderful it's the film we need right now Tim thank you so much uh yes and hopefully we will be trying to catch up with Michael Keaton who is also reprising that role which so many people are uh looking forward to seeing him back in the uh old black and white suit uh yeah I think fans will be flocking to the cinemar to see this one
