Jannik Sinner feels AMAZING after defeating Taylor Fritz in men's final 🤩 | 2024 US Open

where do you put it on par with you know you now you have Australia and now you have the US how do you compare the two this year well they are they're very different in my point of view the first one is uh it's a kind of relief you know you work for it you you you take more time to realize what you have done now it's it's this one is well also the the last part of my my career was was I mean until now the last months were very difficult because I I I think you all know what I went through and then then I surrounded myself fortunately already before with with very good people with people who I can trust so it was very very tough you know coming from Indian and from Cincinnati to here which gave me then a lot of confidence um but still you know this Grand Slam are are different so I'm I'm I'm so happy about the performance today was very tough he he was playing some some amazing tennis I felt like some point he was serving much better and I was struggling on my service games and you know just trying to find a solution so this one feels yeah amazing does this feel like such a relief after all that you had been going through emotionally how drained did these last are these last two weeks yes it's uh it is also relief because um they know you work for for this kind of trophies you work for um um playing some big matches some big stage and um and I'm so happy that I can that I can take this one home with me because it's um I had some very tough losses here um you know again against Carlos with match point then last year you know against Sasha you know playing some good tennis in five so um I always knew that this could suit me very well as as as a court so um I just try to keep going keep keep improving which we still are going to do so uh the work hasn't stopped but um for sure we're going to we're going to take this one with us and uh we're going to celebrate tonight so it's it's GNA be very good nice now You' only played Taylor a couple of times did early on in the first set was a little feeling out process and what adjustments did you make in the second set I felt like he was making great adjustments at some point he was serving much smarter so I changed a couple of things with uh with my return position I'm trying to let him think a little bit um I tried to stay very aggressive already from the beginning or even first point you know trying to to let him know that I would like to make the game and uh and I felt great on the court from the back of the court I was not serving very well I felt the Serv was letting me down a little bit but just trying to stay there mentally and uh you know the mental part throughout this whole tournament has been a huge help for me so I'm I'm very proud about that and uh and yeah so it was but it was a very very very tough match you know if he makes the third set then it's it's it's all over again so uh I'm very happy that I broke him on 54 it's been quite an era that you're following as you know the era of the big three this season you and Carlos alarz solidly made it about the the two of you you own all four of these titles first time in a long time two guys 23 and younger own these titles where's tennis headed um it's nice it's nice to see you know for the sport seeing some new Champions um I feel like the new generation we push each other um trying to improve than are you know obviously all the other players which you first have to beat to arrive to to play against the best players in the world but uh you know they are lately they are some couple of upsets you know just trying to to stay focus on my way on my path and um and then it's it's now I would say uh pressure is is is something nice to have because if you don't have the pressure it means that uh that something is missing and um it it doesn't really matter what tournament you play in um the pressure is always going to be there so uh yeah I'm I'm happy about that I'm very privileged to be in the in this position but as I said the work it's it's never done you know uh there are all always some players who going to push you to the Limit you have to improve a couple of things so yeah I'm just looking forward for my for my process after this title you've opened up a huge gap on number one uh from number one to number two in the world is that going to change your your strategy and the your schedule for the rest of the year is that something that's important to you to end the year number one or is the grand slams really more where the focus is for me has always been very important to to play tournaments and then resting is very important and finding the time to work on um you know I have improved a lot physically but because I I had some gaps also last year you know where I could go on in a gym and work and um we're always going to do that because I would like to be um I would like to finish my career and I know it's it's still young but that I can say okay I have I have no regrets I've I've done everything possible um this is my maximum as a player and as mentally and physical part so um I always try to stay I was tried to stay very uh not on the results but on my uh continuous work and then and this we was still um we're going to do that for sure I want to ask you you said about the a few months it was a tough struggle after the match was over did you notice everybody was up except our colleague and your coach Darren Cahill was kind of down and I think he was in tears and what is he and your um coach vosi what have they meant to you over this time and over the last few years well they have they have meant and they mean so much to me because we travel all around the world um they are my family basically and uh for me sharing this positive moments with them this is the best thing I can do and uh all the people who are close to me um who knows me better also off the court um this is uh amazing yeah I haven't seen that that scene because I was uh watching a bit in the sky and closing my eyes so I was but this you look this this means so much it's uh we all know of how much we we went through we we worked for it we we tried to accept our our difficulties and you know this is truly truly an amazing achievement for me and my team we heard sabinka yesterday say the same thing about her as being kind of like a family but she had a crazy vet with the tattoo or what are we going to do for Darren I think he'd look good with a tiger right right there what can we think of something for we we haven't spoken about that actually um before Montreal um we said okay now in the US Wing if if you make one final in the in the next three tournaments because we knew we the situation was not easy um I get you a PlayStation 5 oh I yeah and I said and I said okay let's do it it's and then I had it after um after Cincinnati so we came here and we we said okay just go day by day we haven't done any bets nothing but um yeah and now I'm going to talk with him let's see
