play off 15 f certainly a golfin experience Mary cillo of playing matches in moments like this at a major stadiums of this size of course Mev the only male player remaining who knows what it feels like to win here in New York so for bores perhaps it might take him a moment to settle that was a wild [Applause] Miss did get to the fourth round of the Australian Open this year why does this feel bigger maybe it's this court g [Applause] m the only players left in the men's side who've won Majors medev as we said a couple years ago right here and another pretty good hard quarter Yanik sinner who won this year's Australian Open the rest looking for their first ZZ Zev tifo among them three Americans remaining Center will play one of them this evening Tommy Paul the net rushing North Carolinian is going to try his hand to take out the number one seed in the night session and Taylor Fritz and Francis have made the quarterfinals in the bottom half yeah Fritz plays Zev tifo plays demitro oh 5 nothing and the winner of this match will face the winner of Center and Tommy Paul meev the five seed got the Short Straw when the draw came out drawn into Center's quarter [Applause] B it to get on the board is Nuno boures but he's done something already this season that Mev has not and that's win a title yeah Mev is had a very solid year if you look at the race of the ATP players and how many points they've made this year he's fourth behind cers ver and alarz but he's got a a zero next to his name when it comes to titles this year only man in the top 10 without a Title 24 ah there he's on the board all right the golden set has been eliminated it's off the table's going to have to go through one of the quirkier statistics we've had in tennis lately if he's going to win here and Robbie knows this one you know this one when I said when I say it Mary he's won a bunch of TI but he's never won the same title twice yes sir I think he has 20 titles in his career in fact he does but never that's really bizarre it's odd bogling actually so often you see players actually performing well at tournaments where they've played well historically defend the title I think in Wall Street mid has a balanced portfolio there we go diversity he's going to have to work around that sun and and that shadow creeping across Ash no 15 and a guy that he can barely see when he looks up to serve he's so far away from him yeah they've played a couple of times but never in a stadium like this how are you supposed to hit winners against medf when he's that far back and heager moov so well for a tall guy the answer is bores needs to use the one-w combination with his forehand and then follow it with a drop shot if he's comfortable doing that that's what alarz does so effectively when he tackles the octopus that is Danielle Mev pushes him back with pace and then drops it gently over the net 15 something that noed so well against him in the final last year was serving and balling and especially to that dece court and in his Opening match against Lovich I saw Duan do that very well against denil again on the DU side Mary Jimma remember in that final at the start of the third set when denil was standing where he is now by Jill savara they were actually having a little bit of an argument with one another because Jill was saying you should have problem solved it you should have been standing in and mixing things up against Novak now you're going to live with your consequences there he is yep 34 shil Savar is a fantastic coach and he must love hockey cuz everywhere he goes he wears the local team's hat when meev was playing in Cincinnati recently is wearing the Columbus Blue Jackets he's repping the Rangers right here Devil's probably getting a little upset there nearby wounded starting to wonder if the NHL doesn't pay him for those [Music] nice clean start for Daniel [Applause] medev medv lead by three games to Lo first [Music] hold down that's how [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Happ [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] time a quick three love lead for Danel Medvedev all there you go beautiful forehand from new bgus gorgeous 15 I'll get there and that Shadow's going to get there too it's creeping across the court next 15 minutes are going to be awkward for both the players and for the viewers because it'll be difficult for everyone to track the ball did you play the Shadows when you when you were playing on courts like this yes how does that work exactly well it's most effective when when you're serving cuz when the ball leaves the the Shadow and comes into the sun it's difficult to track and and the reverse is also true just crossing In a Different Light structures makes it harder to to react in time and when you're hitting 124 mph serve if you can use the shadow is a benefit it's just so much harder to return serve so in this scenario if you're me if you can hit the serve out wide rather than down the T into the shadow rather than keeping it in the sun all the way it should be more challenging for for Nuno and the reverse will be true when meev is returning on the dece court right the Portuguese player is going to want to bang it out wide with the first serve for into the body that's and this is something I brought to the usda's attention a few years back and they've used it during hot days but they haven't really fully committed to eliminating the problem that the shadow creates for everyone including their fans at home which is what I'm most focused on like you can't see the ball well right now can you no so they have the ability to toggle the roof as they've shown during hot days to put the the playing surface in Shadow they could literally move the the roof it would take 30 seconds to move it in about 15% and it would make it better for for the players to see it would make it a better television experience for the global audience watching and there's the structure it moves very quickly for full closure but you don't have to fully close it you could still have the sunroof so hopefully next year Eric buak will finally get it done he wants to do it I know I know and Eric's awesome former doubles player who's senior here but I'm hoping that they can solve for that CU it it's a nuisance the shadow that you could eliminate with just a little bit of flipping switches and then you open back up when Shadow time is over absolutely I like that when the shadow hits the doubles alley right by the chair ire the next change over you close it so the shadow then goes onto the other doubles alley oh I love this right oh yeah and then you just leave it there until the shadow hits the wall and then you open it back full they got to give you a whistle around here I just want it to be better for the fans at home because it's I've watched this tournament from home I you know we're not always here and and at this time of the day it's very difficult to track the ball yeah the cloud the clouds are helping us right now yep but they did bring it into play last year in the second week for Rounds like this when it was ungodly hot and they gave players relief and we saw that the first three days of this tournament so they they've definitely made that adjustment there's Jil Simone [Applause] jillu he's been added to coaching staff Robbie what do you make of sim joining Jill Saar leil yes oh he would have been a notm play against he gave you absolutely nothing he's got a great tennis brain and I'll never forget the match I commentated on him and Novak at the Australian Open week he caused Novak 100 unforced errors Mary I remember but did he win the match he did not he is a disruptor that tactic is used against meddev so much because he gives away so much court and time and again he beats the Drop shots doesn't he his first two steps are so powerful it's like a panther you can imagine with those those long legs he just eats up the ground so quickly so it's deceptive yes he's far back but boy is he quick deceptively quick forward Mary [Applause] 1 got to tell you I don't like this guy's chances I'm just trying to think of what he could do repeatedly that would get him games against madev not 14 he's already had those three of them now 154 be a good start if he could make some meaningful first serves it says coach bottom left there robbes five out of 15 on first serve so far just making a third of them that's putting him under a lot of pressure desperate times call for desperate measures second Ser Vol gets him to thir [Applause] 40 I wonder how much I discuss that tactic because he's hardly used it on that juice side and a lot of players who have success against medv to use it No 19 minutes first set by five games to love ver [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] time [Music] [Applause] [Music] medev at the 19-minute Mark is already serving for the opening set [Applause] Mev serving beautifully so far today with first serve percentage she's just missed two serves out of 17 gu uses the Razer code string from techn fiber but he's razor sharp on serve right now oh he juked him you see that yeah t to see in the shadows but he nearly got that back hand cuz he was doing a little I'm going to use Robbie's word Dons back at the court trying to fake out his opponent that was a footfall queen 1 15 Jim if he's making those kind of first serves he will be delighted because that number has been low so far this week and perhaps just fine tuning and getting into his Groove at the start of the second week here jawdropping how good that is and points now for the Russian Med six H to love and Daniel medev had a very testy match that's they were both going after each other Feliciano and danil some unsportsmanlike Behavior you could say from medev in particular but he ended up winning that match and the C the crowd was booing him and everything meev gave one of the all-time great speeches he said thank you all guys because your energy tonight gave me the win while they're booing him because if you were not here I would probably lose the match because I was so tired I was cramping yesterday it was so tough for me to play so I want all of you to know when you sleep tonight I won because of you 1530 it rained down booze he continued all I can say is the energy you're giving me right now I think it will be enough for my next five matches the more you do this the more I will win for you guys thank you he still wasn't a fan favorite until his match against Rafa Nadal in the [Music] championship turned into a five Center didn't it Roa W the first two sets medev fought back finally he was he was too tired to win the fifth but then he gave another great speech Daniel said I want to talk to you guys I know earlier in the tournament I said something in a bad way now I'm saying it in a good way it was because of your energy that I was here in the final well he did and the fans right now cheering bores who's just gotten on to the board but I was also in the building watching that and and let's be honest the fans really weren't there to see Mev win but they were self-interested they didn't want to see a route either so when he was down two sets love they got behind the big Russian and they then were Charmed by him in that postmatch interview Mary exactly right oh boy it was something yeah he one of the great returns as well against Nadal to make it two sets all merry Nal served and volley at one on the outside he had a backand from the first row for a clean winner and this place erupted footfall call there for meva that will be his back foot crossing the center service line does happen from time to time he missed the serve anyway so no problem but he he can create some angles Robbie given how deep he is yeah that it's not the left foot that we'll have to get the director to do the center line that's the one that we should be looking for in the de Court he encroaches on that line sometimes 3 l right when he's returning serve from that great depth he can particularly these Majors where they have singles Nets he can certainly hit around that's the back back foot if that crosses the center line which it did there that's a footall and they do have a camera right behind there and officials are watching closely there's the camera you can see it just over the chase sign 15 that camera is just for footfall just for footall that's a footfall camera they have them on the the the back baselines as well you can see them 4 15 I believe Jim I might stand corrected his foot only has to touch that line not go all the way across it 99% out 100% violation yeah so the official to draw an imaginary line there in their head and make that call that's why it's so rarely called remember the Australian Open uh Stephanos cipas got called for the footfall and he he couldn't quite comprehend how he' footfall he's like my left foot's nowhere near the line was his right foot his back foot he had no idea didn't appear to not understand the rule 15 [Music] [Applause] Bor just he can pump the forehand Robbie but he has a he doesn't have a a western grip right so it's harder for him to really hit it hard when the ball stays low and who is better at keeping the ball low than than this guy yeah no kidding Court's a little slick as well so that plays into his style of tennis think that might have hit the H in the face on the way with the backboard nicely done that's again you got to be careful on a hard court that ball will bounce up a little higher than a clay court or grass cor for that matter when you play a drop shot because it doesn't absorb the bound like those surfaces 34 [Applause] in yes a Portuguese fan go you been to Portugal I have not my son loves it and he demands that I go soon he's not wrong yeah what a beautiful country that is Robbie's probably been there and played all the golf courses cuz that's if he can't fly fish that's what he wants to do right yes sir of course we've taken one of their Famous Foods and made it the old Perry Perry chicken and N nandos is a staple diet for South Africans all over the world these days very relaxed lifestyle beautiful beaches it's some of the biggest surfing waves in the world as well and nazer a couple of hours drive from Lisbon L like he was going to hold again there for a moment but already a break in the second by one set too low pretty Pleasant conditions overall but meod up taking the no chances as the ice Tow on still a little bit humid out there although temperatures are certainly very very nice for this time of the year school starts tomorrow New York City will be a different place then it's been all summer long come tomorrow morning Mary everyone's back in at work everyone's back with their school Unis on it's uh it's also when this tournament really starts to narrow its lens on who's going to lift the trophy who are you feeling on the women's side right now as playing the type of tennis that could get the job done I think SE Lena who's already won two Australian opens on a hardcourt similar to this is in to take her first US Open that would be my guess she's got a tricky opponent there the Olympic gold medalist yes she does do that's a nice little quarter final for tomorrow she plays J chin Wen the seven seed who took out veic match that ended after two this morning sources tell me it was played at a high level very high level Shadows crept almost entirely across the court now be gone by 3:00 yeah this is the spot where they should stop it stop top the roof when it first encroaches move it out to here and then you're good to go that's good to go my goodness he's going through VES in a is meev incredible a kind of pace he can generate from so deep in the court technique might not look pretty but I tell you what the contact is sweet we were having that conversation yesterday weren't we Jim about technique versus mental toughness Med's a good case in point it certainly is Robbie his backand is so good and it's so unique he he has a a hockey grip on his hands are split they're not together like almost everyone else's you'll watch there's space there in between them and he has one of the latest contact points on his backand takes the ball so deep in his Strike Zone he actually just buys himself extra time on that stroke every time players are often told and taught take the ball early take the ball early meev takes it late it's because his left hand is so prominently split with his right he's able to really control the ball with his left hand who taught him that or did he just make that who teaches that I think he probably taught himself that if I had to guess but you know who else had that David weaton a hockey player from Minnesota who became a top 10 tennis player and Wimbledon semi-finalist in the '90s he had a split grip so perhaps Dev did dabble with hockey when he was a kid and brought it over to tennis I don't know the answer to that but that would be my guess you know the answer to where he's standing right now to return is that Jones Beach I'm just saying it's because you talked to medev about how he does this and why he does this in a terrific interview at the Australian Open J how did that even come about well I'm curious by Nature as you are Mary so when we get lucky enough to get near these players you kind of want to learn stuff and meev is is a very giving interview and he went right along with you oh yeah he was he was he was up for it he was game but it's all the fault of Joe Wilfried SAA really yep sa is the match that told him he needed to change his return position more please he said he played so I think he was at an nor return he just he was standing in a normal return position 3 four five six feet behind the Baseline and he just couldn't make any traction the big Frenchman serve was just consistently beating him so he just decided to start moseying back a little bit good game here for Gores to stay close so Mev had seen so Nal start to deploy that right Rafa was using it on the clay and then brought it to the hard courts and some me have just started practicing it and toggling it and working with it and basically his theory is he can hit a normal ground stroke for a return of serve because he's so deep rather than having to block returns which you have to have an abbreviated return When you stand in closer the ball decelerates so quickly when it comes across the net that by the time it gets to him it's descending and he's able to hit a ground stroke and he's awfully good at it and in that uh in that interview you did with him you stood far back with NE as well you were like looking across the how in the world he's like it's so easy from back here just to hit the ball deep in the court like it's everyone should I was like it's not man you're out of your mind and how do you cover the drop shot he's like well we practice that my physio my trainer has me stand deep and then he just hits me Drop shots basically and I would go run them down wow yeah oh no noo come on noo come on man no no noo and then in the most midev thing of all yeah he talks about how this is how he returns the next match against HBY herot she stands right up on top of the Baseline yes he's just one of those guys Mar you can ask him anything and he'll just go along with you and he's so smart in so many languages and he is one of our unique characters without question he says when I'm on the court I always make headlines that what that says Sometimes good sometimes bad sometimes funny [Music] he recounted it a lovely story with Tor when they were about 12 years old Mary just uh recently uh when they were practicing in the Juniors and basically said he was giving Taylor frit such bad calls but he actually thought he was just calling the ball normally only to hear Taylor and his coach talking about how this guy gives the worst call he said there's nothing worse than 12 and under Juniors right Cutthroat bloodthirsty game a this is going by in such a hurry by four games to one second set by one set to low he also said Robbie talking about how he makes headlines he says when I'm on the court my mind is constantly boiling boiling he said it's frustrating sometimes with good emotions it's okay but when it comes out wrong it just boils he says when I finish my career I'll have some good Legacy in tennis and titles and good memories on on the court and for sure iconic moments on the microphone he understands his personal power I love it for me he's the best interview in uh in our sport just uh I'm right behind you on that one and it is it's because he's so bright yeah went to a special school when he was younger in Russia for kids who excelled in maths and science so that tells you a lot right there yeah time math is going his way in this [Music] thing these fans are watching the second match in Ash Stadium right now it's going by very quickly six love 41 in 44 [Music] minutes just wonder the previous match of boures has taken its toll on him maybe physically and mentally because uh the one over yakob men was an incredible one saving three match points eventually coming through in five sets it's never the the buildup you want prior to playing against mv's incredible defense and shot tolerance his ability to stay in and extend rallies is an intimidating Force coming in at all wounded this is is a tall mountain to climb sure [Music] is five set match and three of those sets went to tie breaks including the last two and that was some fight that was in the section where stephos C pass and Felix Jose alas sein they both went out in a hurry that's a name to keep an eye on going forward folks yakob menik of czechia he is a proper player [Music] it's that's the best match best point of the match for bores there it required extreme patience and precision 28 shots or just probing for any opening and evev trying to St a vacuum packed over there eventually break points are now on the line chance to get one of the breaks [Applause] back thank you [Applause] don't know if you saw but so many subtleties to Med's game that forand down the line was a lot flatter he hit it shorter knowing that boures was deep on the previous shot in the forehand so it's flatter and shorter on the back end it didn't bounce up didn't carry [Applause] I think sometimes people underestimate how well medv can go and meet the ball on the Baseline we often think of him returning deep but tell you what once the Baseline really starts he can stay neutral against the best of them advant his ability just to change the length of his swings when the ball's coming to him quicker just shorten the swing Beau he missed there but it's also that last fraction of a moment racket speed that he can get too right Robbie yeah he gives it the buggy whoop finish doesn't he comes around the side of the ball abbreviates the swing so his game is full of Disguise about SM time for is able to rush him a wonderful depth Vantage meev meev can hit the ball big if he decides to but it's not his normal pattern of play he's quite happy to just watch what you're doing and react and outmaneuver you over time so for boures if he wants to to buy his time he can play slow and Central just like Jill Simone one of mv's coaches did against jokovic that time that he nearly beat Novak in the Australian Open and then once you feel like you have an advantage then go big but constantly trying to rip the ball against meev it's hard to really gain an advantage unless you're just razor sharp and meddev could hit harder than he does for sure he does much rather torture you than just go for the could say it better myself man that's another infraction of the center line the back foot of Mev Crossing that line planted met it's always been the weaker side of boures the forehand Wing can leak a lot more unfors that's the only side he can really do damage with too Robbie like winners that's the the tradeoff for him yep who does that besides meod who gets to the net and decides it's time to go back to the Baseline yes our coaches would have made us do 10 push-ups if we did that right the other one you'll both appreciate this is when a lob goes over your head not only do you hit a lob back but the guy who H the lob must come to the net right follow it in we don't see that too often these days it's between a territory and most of the time wait to see what happens two good serves in a row from Med help him win that game now it's 5-1 in the [Applause] second by five games to one one thing that I also quite enjoy about Mev is in this era of expanded entourages yes he has two coaches that's new this year but he travels lightly y often times it's it's just his wife Dasha and Jill saara in the in the coach's box his physio doesn't seem to like the Limelight doesn't if he can sit elsewhere tends to he's he goes with he does they have a beautiful small child too mhm but they don't want to put that baby Through Torture let's not make the child crabby or just serving in low 40s that's why he's screaming it's also living in a horror movie right now directed by Daniel MV Mr W tolay of the call of the left basine 50 foot o octopus [Applause] I wonder if the 12-year-old medv might have tried to call that one out man think about think about that Robbie as bour just suffers some more think about tennis players 12 years old calling their own lines can you imagine if Little League baseball players were allowed to call their own balls and Strikes what that would look like oh oh yeah so elegant So Graceful 154 see how he does this I'm not sure this is the kind of btic you were talking about oh just tried an underarm serve there desperate times a double set [Applause] point dismal that's got to hurt for ores six games to one e double fall he tosses his racket in disgust okay I I think Taylor's very h i I'm going to go upset Fritz and I gets to mut the 20th seed with the upset over the night so you're calling an American male in the final you're saying it's going to be Fritz andao in a semi what do you think I think I'd like to see that happen I that happen and again the only guy left in the tournament who's won the open is this guy serving so for all the rest of them it's going to be a new experience new opportunity new pressure thank you for your comprehensive assessment of the draws Mary absolutely that's why I'm here not really but when matched this is where we have to go to try and talk about things of interest cuz this match has been uninteresting to be honest talking around it 63 points one for Mev just 31 points for boures this is about as one way as you can see but we've got plenty of fluffer Nutter among we can filibuster with the best of them yes we can better bour just taking no time he's he's going around the Net post Serena William Style's not even going to stop at his seat all right Robbie you're right down there so I ask you from on high how many majors can Daniel meddev win for the rest of his career he's not going to get stuck at what is he what's what's the target what's the over under Robbie I want to say three I'm picking three as what he'll be able to achieve all on hard see him yes all on hard all on hard so he gets a big chance twice here oh come on I was just about to applaud him for serving and Bing for the first time and winning the points and then he does that to me yeah love the tag spare a thought for him Robbie he's he's feeling no joy out here his Nuno borous it looks like he just wants off of this court as quickly as possible at this point he may get his wish yeah Mary I'll settle for three three would you go over or under I'm maybe two okay certainly has a chance to win this for the second time he's had looks to win the Australian hasn't he that count is 1.5 given he had a two sets to love lead in the final yeah 35 [Music] 30 all here Mev has played in six finals already been in three other semi-finals I I'm taking over three for sure yeah this guy hangs around the basket eventually you get the ball in the hoop four that made two Wimbledon semi-finals on a surface that that doesn't seem to suit his game if he stays healthy he's still a relatively young guy for this time in the tour 28 years old yeah I'm going to I'm going to take the over and none of us know it's just that we're just all hunching right now [Applause] yes yeah I'm sure if it asked us that question when Michael Chang won the friend open it what was it 17 how many more is he going to win right just never know for there only three finals here three in Australia he's just ever consistent on this surface not playing well particularly at this tournament the beginning of the tournament now look at him in the fourth round just taking care of business ala's wrestling style for our younger fans that's it someone who used to sing and dance he was the king this guy is maybe not quite the king of hard courts but he certainly knows what he's doing out here Advantage [Music] fores it's his first volley that's very good you got to be so careful about going to the open court Second Time Around much better [Music] yes course an NCAA singles finalist was boures lost to Paul JB of the UK back in 2019 his college tennis at Mississippi State that's his coach on the left aru masar Andre Santos on the right is fysio at least he's trying something different out of M guys he's exploring all options yeah this be a little parlor game in this set how many net approaches for boures he is he had eight in the opening two sets he's already at at four and uh not quite two games and he was wandering in there again [Applause] left Advantage method [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] I swear every time the camera puts it but on that poor cheese girl he I automatically hits an underhand serve I don't know why what's the correlation I don't know yes here's a look at it tried to slide it out wide and just missed his Mark meev was there for it though he wasn't fooled at all thank you Advantage medev medvedev's got 10 on fours Gores just struck his 37 [Applause] [Applause] yes no [Music] no thank you Advantage fores VOR just a chance to hold serve something that's been pretty difficult for him so far save two break points this game already there he get on sweet Rel one game on sets just giving the crowd a baseball swing thank you well the Mets are playing tonight yeah right across the street City Field engagement now number 15 let see if the fans here can lift him up create some tension in this third set there there was none of that in the first two telling us that story about how the the crowd really wasn't engaging well with meev in the US Open in 2019 until he was down two sets to love and then they really got behind him yes something like that I'm just suggesting the crowd wants more T that that I do believe yes and there's only one man that can give them that and he's wearing yellow out there bman could as well if he starts making mistakes like that too many unforced errors today from the [Applause] Russian by the way when are we going to stop this nonsense of not putting Russia on the scoreboard you think Putin really cares about that really stopped his aggression hasn't it well this is a moment for gorgeous because he was down two break points in the prior game now a chance to actually get a break a serve lead stranger things thank you oh the old don't care about the the crowd applause was just going to serve irrespective of whether there was quiet or [Applause] not more as a sign there's a bit of frustration just lurking beneath new SP has a match broken out GES leads by two games to one third set Med leads by two sets to not sure yet if we have a match but we definitely have some energy in the building for the first time since these guys walked on to the court [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] speaking of energy Robbie yeah nice to have some it is nice to have some but here here is my question to the academy okay I'm going to name some players who among them could do with a long long rest after this US Open Coco golf time Stephan CTI pass who says he has he's had a longterm slump Novak jokovic Carlos alcarez I will expect your answer forth [Applause] with Jim I want to ask you this as well who needs to take the biggest break after this US Open gof thank you ccas jokovic alcarez there are no wrong answers or maybe all of them who's going to no who do you want who should yes yes who should if you are their coach or their mother for me tries to get back on serve Robbie do you want to lead off and I'll follow I'll probably go with Coco Coco yeah just perhaps work on some stuff on a game I think she's playing as well as she could just digesting so many thoughts about each player but just my natural instinct tells me Coco that's really nice gorgeous back in the game 7 C says he's he's been he's tried to rest he's tried to train nothing is working he doesn't quite know what to do with himself he's fired his father as his coach what does he do a long-term burnout is how he is describing himself and he said it's been going on for almost two years that's hard to argue against those comments you know uh I'm always so scared to take a good period out unless you actually are working on something the T goes past you very quickly Mary if you if you remain stagnant handled that Oneal I remember so much back in the day when I was coming he played so much M so much and at one point I said to him you know why why don't you take a a little bit of a break every now and then and he said there was some coin involved yes he was earning a lot of potatoes at the time but his game L's game required so much so much repetition it's the only way he could feel confident he said if I take a week off it takes me a month to get my game back wow yeah [Applause] [Music] good save of a break point from boures Mev been pretty good at taking his serve today six for 12 now on breako opportunities for the big Russian meod it's 0 for three in this set however comes a fourth opportunity buying time for Robbie to keep organizing his thoughts around Carlos alcaraz and Novak jovic's decisions what their schedule might look like or should look like rest of the year that made the Go game still isn't decided yes both jokovic and alarz left this place looking pretty crispy I thought what you suggested the other night with alarz was a bang on Play La cup take a couple of weeks off now it's not even playing the second week of this event play lay of a cup get a couple of matches under his belt and then hit the ground running in Asia I do listen to you Jim a lot me it's not advisable Robbie it's an Affliction we'll we'll see if we can get some medication for that hust some down to you alarz strikes me as someone who would wouldn't be that happy not being out tournaments are happening he's still a puppy dog you know running around the field having a great time just needs a little bit of time to himself I think so nice now for just he's starting to get a toe hold and he's also starting to get some Swagger when he's walking around he looked like a dead man walking there for the last set or so before this one began looked like he just wanted to to get off of the court in a hurry he wants to hold serve and just keep [Applause] moving that's advant gorgeous one [Applause] now B [Applause] goodness yeah Shield Simon was asking him to move the ball around the court more rather than get involved in crosscourt exchanges and that is just money placed with absolute perfection got him Advantage another chance for [Applause] three1 tell you what wasn't the best of Drop shots from my side view Med had all kinds of time but he has manufactured an absolute Beauty to get get out of trouble there je nine double faults and meev is not a player that you need to over serve against on second serves because he's not trying to hit a winner a lot of the time off your second serve not often at all unless you're serving in Bali and he's so deep in the court you can just hit a normal second in the middle of the box and then brace for impact get ready to go to work from there so the uh the Hawkeye system electronic line calling system malfunction that's what stop stop it automatically comes from the they they're going to both come in and hear from the chair ire let's listen in get an explanation so there is a fire alarm in the building where the Hawkeye Bo is where there and and we cannot continue because the system is down at the moment so if if you want to have a seat and then we'll resume as soon as [Applause] possible okay ladies and gentlemen due to a technical issue with ELR line calling we have paed a match and we will resume it as soon as possible this is an awkward scenario here fire alarm caused Hawkeye to take a pause so we'll take a pause as well this doesn't seem like one of those situations in my house when I have technical problems where I can just unplug it and then plug it back in and reboot it we'll be fine no oh the old reboots all serious as we hope everything's safe in the building where our Hawkeye team is doing all the electronic line calling the fire alarm fire alarm is going off that is obviously Troublesome soing look like panic in the disc well that's that's video review I'm not sure that's the that's the same thing it might be but I I don't think so you said it didn't look like Panic at the Disco yeah realize you listen to that of Music Man all right why we have this time yes Jim you did not answered this question who needs to take okay I'm I'm gonna go in in reverse order okay so Carlos alcarez should be the first back to the playing Court okay he was tired mentally but not tired physically after the Olympic Games so I think a little refresh at home in a couple weeks and he's going to be anxious to get back out there and showcase his goods and I think Laver cup is the perfect soft launch for him it's it's a team event there is the tournament referee Jake Garner he's trying to help situation get resolved so I think alaraj should be back for for a labor cup and then proceed over to Asia and finish up in Paris endure and tour finals okay what about Novak joov Novak jokovic I think should be a little bit more mindful about protecting his entirety of his fall I believe he's going over to to Asia to play in Shanghai got officials on the court here talking to the chair on fire so I'd like to see him in a perfect world I'd say Novak didn't go to Asia and just played parison door in the tour for okay so there's no problem they're just they're just not doing it right now okay okay so it sounds like there's no dangerous problem okay that's good news so step c c needs a new coach okay and once he gets a new coach I think that'll Breathe new life into his energy and enthusiasm for the sport okay Coco goof needs to work on her technical issues on her serving her forehand and and for her I would suggest not playing the rest of the year and lining up a whole slew of exhibitions in November and December so she could then practice all of the things that she will have been working on in the next couple of months I like that that that's my that's my working backwards Theory thoughts from the uh no the cheap seats Robbie how do you feel about that uh I think chim's paying on that's perfect sense uh the coaching issues with uh with Steph I think he does need to resolve that and find somebody that he can trust implicitly I remember his physical trainer I thought he needs to be back on board on a full-time basis uh Christos fotaras he's he's one of the best in the business I don't think he's around enough he keeps a very short leash on Steph I'm a big fan of his step has often played some of his best tennis when he's been around certainly at the beginning of the year he often travels in capacity as you know the Greek team physio down to the United cup and he's around in oz so I'd like to see him on board on almost a permanent basis and together with a good coach I think yeah that would definitely keep things nice and fresh in his team so yeah just echoing Jim's sentiments he's been there and done it so he has a very good idea of how those things work um it's going to be interesting you know we spoke yesterday about technique and mental toughness I think coko is very strong mentally and physically um but we are seeing the effects of some of the frailties of her technique both on the serve and players able to exploit her on the forand side but they say sometimes that success can be a lousy teacher but she might turn around to us and say well Robbie I've want to made you already how lousy can my technique be so there's always that conundrum if I was having a conversation with a player and I suppose I'd come back to him by saying well come on let's aim for double digits I think you're that good but are you prepared to perhaps suffer for the next 6 months while whilst you're trying to make changes for the longterm goal of being able to win multiple Majors but you know as I say this and I digest the information guys there's not many players that have made big changes in our Sports say like in go for example the only one where I where I really think of a big change was the serve of no from what it was in 2010 to how it's evolved to now D we ready too many you might have to help me out sabinka hired biomechanics to alter her serve when she was struggling and she the rewards of that so it is doable it's not easy though your point is well taken it looks like the the building issue with the fire has been resolved so we can get back into what's now become a actually contestable third set after oneway traffic first two wasn't too long of a pause thank you [Music] M right back in a thre threatening position here this fourth break point of the game was that little pause what Mev needed to get back on top [Applause] two games old thir sets so we're just having that that really interesting chat thanks Mary for bringing up that topic and I'm just thinking out loud here Hubie herot just split off with Craig Boon what about Craig Boon as a possible candidate for St CTI Craig has shown his dexterity working with all manner of personality and player and what a different energy he would bring yeah let's get him on the blow off 15 it would be someone that that if I was in Steph's management team I certainly would put on a list guys's experienced work with all different types of players and personalities and he's chill super chill and he's got the best damn beard in the business two quick points and and Med have got out of that last game even a two and two sets up Falls wide 15 all try to say all those thoughts about those players with with empathy because it's not easy to be to be it's a great job but it's not an easy jober and be in charge and have all that responsibility of who you hire and fire and when you play and when you don't and if it was easy everybody would do it [Applause] 14 F Med just feel like he's just trying to hustle right through this now he could have been down 3-1 yes [Applause] our [Applause] method let f three games three games to third set and by two sets to [Music] love are you good on balls [Music] how's Wy doing she and hadaj Maya are out on Lewis Armstrong 6-2 for the Brazilian in the opening set second consecutive year that Waki has made the round 16 in this tournament after three years away and two children yeah but her husband does most of the work oh I see David he's a retired basketball player he's got plenty of T Colin Waki says I can feel I'm not 20 anymore and I'm not recovering as a 20-year-old [Music] anymore she been making it look easy and route to this round though she had clean run into the fourth round but this is the works have been gummed up a little bit here she says sometimes I feel like I'm 20 when I move around the court she thinks I still got this she says I'm definitely paying a lot more for some of these those movements that I probably wasn't previously fair enough from the 34y old love wow bous has had to use the full length and width of the Court [Applause] here nicely done how net numbers looking for just this set please J yeah it's a 12 net approaches for Nuno bores he's won five of them meev has been in twice and one one out of two 5 looking for some input from coach Mado there not seeming to be too happy with uh the feedback 13 [Music] 15 14 [Applause] 15 VES three games old third sets [Applause] 15 yeah not great on the field of the drop shot again you can see danil taking that ball while it was still above the height of the neck then he can be nice and aggressive with it and hit down on it I like how every time Med Gets Drop shotted he considers it an insult W what a foot being called today and it's off that little Center Line mhm yeah his first serve really stands very near to the center it gives him the ability to hit the t- serve and keep it Out Of Reach from a lot of right-handed players the second serve he moves further away from the center he quite likes to swing the second serve out wide to reduce so he does bring that footfall into play and the when he's serving into the dece court only on first serves though 14 15 no boy he really rides right up against the middle doesn't he Med quick hold from Danielle Med by four games to three third set and by two sets to low that's why you Sav meev um takes exception to people drop shotting feels insulted by it I I really think he feels that way does he cuz he he should it's a compliment is what it is because what the players are saying is we cannot get the ball past you and you're so far back there's only the only possible way for us to get you off your axis of Evil is to bring you into the the four Court yeah cuz it's just impossible to get past him back there for most players I guess that's one way he could be looking at it sem my glass half full take it as a compliment absolutely I don't know so many people talk about how far back he plays from and he has to talk about a lot and even defend him a [Music] lot so when people drop shot him I think he's like no no I got this whole Court coming up on 4:00 now on Labor Day Monday see now Labor Day is one of the big reasons why for so long Super Saturday happened a lot of people took off on Labor Day the tournament didn't want the men's semis on Friday CU a lot of people couldn't take a second day away from work in that week so they had the two men's semis and then the women's final sandwich in between them for a lot of years fact this is theth anniversary of Super Saturday in 1984 when just every single match went the distance lindle beating cash then Martina be beating Chris and then mackenro beating Connors [Applause] 305 that was an amazing day of tennis if you had the stand Amina for it and starting at 11: in the morning with Stan Smith playing John Nukem and that went the distance talking about Super Saturday 40 years ago they had thrown in the Smith Nukem match to start today is because in 1983 that Saturday semis it used to be called went so quickly so I figured all right we better add we better throw in an extra one not knowing that those two guys would really be playing it for [Music] real Super Saturday ended at 11:16 at night which by today's standards doesn't even seem late four 1 how many is that four bous it's getting late early again for for gorgeous 10 double faults and a breakpoint chance that might just seal it the dev thank you got him game away so meev has experienced semal here for the most part I believe he's been playing on Fridays so you're saying that ever since work from home became a thing that it's okay to have the semis on Friday is that what we're talking about here Mary that's what I didn't even know I was saying but yes that's what I was saying okay thank [Music] you 50 if meev wants to play on Friday he's going to have to go through either the American Tommy Paul should he hold this game which it's likely he will orionx Center C [Applause] and Alex Center is been he's been problematic neev lately but neev did beat him at Wimbledon he's on the doorstep now of waiting to see if C can join him in the quarter finals set match three set love six love 61 and three gor just tried hard in that third set still lost to the three Med moves into the [Applause] [Music] quarters fing that off 1 hour and 51 minutes Robbie you talked about meev not having his aame on his first serve in this tournament
