to the manager's office to hear from Mike schil plus we'll bring you scores from around Major League Baseball the Pod R postgame show Starts Now on the p r radio network is here's the pitch swung on popped into shallow left Machado back calling off Peralta Manny on the Move gets there to make the catch and the ball game is over Padre's make quick work of the Tigers on this Labor Day a three nothing shutout win Joel Musgrove went six and then just like you draw it up Adam in the seventh Scot in the eighth and Suarez save number 31 here in the ninth 18 games and 18 days it ends on a high note for the San Diego Padres as they beat the Detroit Tigers in this series opener the final score Padres three and the Tigers nothing Sam Lev it with you inside the Loft here at the Western metal building at Petco Park as we wrap this one up on what was a beautiful Labor Day here in America's Fest City and like Jesse alluded to in the final call there really the pitching the big big story in this game Joe Musgrove six scoreless Innings Jason Adam Tanner Scott Robert Suarez all throwing scoreless frames in the seventh eighth and Ninth as Suarez picks up save number 31 on the season the offense came early it came late the Padre's got insurance in the eighth inning and the Padre's find a way here today after what was a long 24 hours playing in Tampa Bay less than 24 hours ago and they take the Cross Country flight they show up to Petco Park for a game that started at 340 not the easiest way to wrap up an 18 game in 18-day stretch but they find a way and they win a very nice game against the Tigers to begin this three game set offensively for most of this game it was all about Luis arise arise had the base hit in the third RBI single to make it a one- nothing Padre's lead Padres still LED just one nothing going to the eighth inning arise had another RBI single to make it two nothing Manny Machado would make it 3 nothing in the eighth inning with another RBI single Padre's didn't do anything explosive today offensively but they just found ways to get enough offense to ultimately win this game again Luis rise two hits and two RBI in this one I caught up with Luis on the field right after today's win Luis three runs on the scoreboard today you drove in two of them one early one late what was your approach in those two at backs I I just I just try to do my thing every day so I just want to put a b and play and then he throw me a sink down and in and then I got Conta and then I made I made the the hit a shut out for this pitching staff today Joe Musgrove six scoreless Innings the bullpen gets it done again what's it like to watch what those guys are doing on the mound right now it's fun to watch Joe peaching he's healthy we need him and then he did a really good job we know he compete every day he's amazing he's uh Jo is one of my favorite said when I play Hang I say okay it's tough day for me but I got to I got to hit with him so and then I mean Adam Scott and then Suarez they pit really well you guys were in Florida less than 24 hours ago a long flight early game today how were you able to get this win today long fly long fly and especially we left the family there and then my family come visited Tampa and then we we got we have a job to do so we come back to San Diego play play uh from the this beautiful crown and then we just need to keep continue to play hard 18 games in 18 days you're looking forward to the off day yes sir tomorrow we have a big off day so I got to go there and sleep a lot so that was Lis arise right after this win again two hits two rbi's very critical moments for arise in this ball game as the Padre's win it three to nothing against the Tigers when we come back we'll have all the radio highlights for you we'll also hear from Padre's manager Mike schil much much more to come as the Padres improved the 79 9 and 61 on the year Tigers dropped to 70 and 69 Padres begin this three-game series with a three nothing win against the Tigers more postgame after this from Petco Park on the Padre's Radio Network e e e e do do do do do do do do do do do [Music] our postgame show continues here on the Padre's radio network Sam Le it with you inside the Loft here at the Western metal building at Petco Park on this Labor Day Padre's pick up a very nice three nothing win against the Detroit Tigers as the Padre's improved to 79 and 61 the Tigers Dro to 70 and 69 we'll have a full look at the out of town scoreboard coming up a a little bit later but to tell you a little bit about that scoreboard today we do have good news well I guess good news in the sense if you're rooting for and I say this uh very carefully here in Padre land rooting for the Dodgers against the Diamondbacks in that series that wrapped up today in Arizona not that you're rooting for the Dodgers necessarily but you're let's say rooting for a diamond back loss well the reality of the situation the Dodgers did win three out of four in that series uh against Arizona and the Dodgers won 11 to six today so with the Padre's win and the Diamondbacks losing the Padre's do jump ahead of the Diamondbacks for that number one wild card spot so they will have that number one wild card spot at the end of today so that is certainly good news again not that you ever like to see a dodg or win but hey circumstances are circumstances and because the Dodgers beat the Diamondbacks well the Padre's now now at the end of today do hold that top wild card spot in the National League so that is a good news for the Padre's and like we've said many many times if the Padres continue to take care of business uh they can uh you know handle a lot of that themselves and they did that here today winning at 3 nothing against the Tigers let's recap this game from start to finish what moments had the biggest impact on today's game we'll paint you a picture with our game recap on the Padres radio network let's start by talking about Joe Musgrove he was really sharp early on he pitched a 1 two three top of the first inning worked around a leadoff single in the second and then retired the side in order for a scoreless third inning meanwhile Tigers opener Tyler Holton pitched two scoreless innings to begin the game we had a scoreless game going Bottom three Mason McCoy reached on an infield single the pitcher Brennan hanify threw the ball away that allowed McCoy to go to second base that error proved to be very costly because Luis arise was next one and two and arise hits it on the ground into right field in a base hit McCoy racing around third going to score easily beerling throw goes into second base they gave him right field and he took it Padres lead it one to nothing that's all the Padres would get in the third the Tigers then had a an immediate threat in the top of the fourth inning Two On and nobody out but Musgrove retired the next three batters to end the inning the the score stayed one- nothing Musgrove pitched a one two three top of the fifth inning the Tigers then threatened again in the sixth inning there were Runners on first and second with two men away the rally left up to Tiger second baseman Colt Keith now two and two Joe delivers and strike three call dropped in his best curveball of the day it'll be his eighth k and a wonderful way to end the afternoon no runs a hit two men left on base Joe Musgrove was great today six scoreless Innings three hits eight strikeouts and two walks we'll talk more about Joe a little bit later but even when he got in trouble today he found a way out of it he was in line for a win but the Padres weren't adding on Tai Madden took over in the fourth inning for the Tigers and he would keep it just a one-run lead for a while Jason Adam worked around a two-out single and a stolen base for a scoreless seventh inning Tanner Scott all out a one out double ailly Green in the eighth inning he struck out Matt verling for out number two Justin Henry Malloy Pinn with a tying run on second base for the Tigers the Padres still leading just one ZIP here's the 02 pitch check swing appeal strike three first base umpire Dan Bolino Rings him up and Scott gets out of the inning with backto back CS following the one out double by Green so he went to the bottom half of the eighth inning Padres still leading just one nothing they were looking for insurance Kyle higashioka hit a lead off double me McCoy then laid down a bun it was a great one he reached base safely so the Padre's had Runners on first and third with nobody out for Luis arise one run lead now but a chance to add 02 arise on the ground through the left side and a base hit got it past Sweeney who is drawn in RBI single as yashioka scores and the Padre lead is now two to nothing so at that point the Padre's had two runs and both of them courtesy of arise Jake Cronin worth then hit a ground ball the Tigers had the infield in they threw out Mason McCoy at home arise went to third base on the play cronenworth safe at first base Manny Machado was next here's the pitch Manny swings hits it on the ground through the right side and a base hit arise comes in to score RBI single Manny Machado a three nothing Padre lead and not a single man trying to do too much so the Padre had a one- nothing lead heading into the eighth inning they left the eighth inning with a three nothing lead Robert Suarez came in for the Padre's in the top half of the ninth inning Colt Keith let off the inning with a single but then quickly that Runner was erased Spencer Tolson grounding into a double play two outs and nobody ya it was Jace Young at the plate for Detroit Robert Suarez against young Suarez is set here's the pitch swung on popped into shallow left Machado back calling off Peralta Manny on the the move gets there to make the catch and the ball game is over Padre's make quick work of the Tigers on this Labor Day a three nothing shutout win Joe Musgrove went six and then just like you draw it up Adam in the seventh Scott in the eighth and Suarez save number 31 here in the ninth and that was that Padre's get a very very nice shut out win here today three nothing against the Tigers final to in this one three runs eight hits no errors for the Padre's no runs six hits and one error for the Tigers again the Padre's now 79 and 61 Tigers dropped to 70 and 69 Padre's have won two in a row the last game of the series against Tampa Bay and now the series opener against the Tigers as Joe Musgrove picks up the win he's now five and four Robert Suarez saved number 31 of the Season just an excellent pitching day Musgrove six scoreless in and then Adam Scott and Suarez as Jesse alluded to just like you want to draw it up to get the job done in the final three Innings and the Padre's pick up a win on this Labor Day let's go downstairs here at Petco Park and here's some postgame reaction let's pull up a seat in the manager's office and here from Padre's manager Mike schelz presented by sinley food spice up your culinary life Mike if you don't mind start with Joe how impressive has he been since he's returned from the ey and how important has it been that you've had this version of of Joe um it's impressive what he's done it's very important that he's been back and doing what he's doing it's now four straight outstanding starts for us um again hard fa ball game you know we able to scratch run with Lis getting a big knock and Joe um Joe made a stand up through six and made big pitches in the six to get to get out of it he's been fantastic and a he's a big part of our club and um he's contributing Big Time Luis has done this multiple times now how valuable is it to have a man in your leadoff spot that's not just a table setter yeah you know we knew that when we got him that clearly was a table setter two batting titles speak for themselves but if you put the ball in play lot you're probably going to be pretty good withun and scoring position too and the good news is we have a bottom of the lineup that gets on and contributes at the bottom so he was able to drive in a couple runs a DI was big and you mentioned the bottom of the lineup B McCoy getting the bunt down he did the other day as well just continues to be production from there doing the little things get the sacrifice buns down just executing yeah executing ending was you know really a beautiful representation of how baseball supposed to be played on the offensive side it was really nice he he gets it started with the double um max moving him over but weighs down a beautiful bun so we got first and third Louie again you know we're talking about him two strikes got him right where he wants him and um just takes a tough at bat boom hits the ball the other way then we get you know um toddy up there I just loved his approach you know he spoke with his words like do what the game calls for he saws sees a big hole just boom trying to play the game ends up moving him over um just a really love the intent of that moves him over then Manny same thing do what the game calls for takes what the pitcher gives him hits the ball through the through the you know four hole gives that insurance run so um it was really just good baseball in that eighth inning the whole game actually pitching was up standing you're through the 18 games 27 and 28 how do you take stock of how you came out of this stretch um very well it was a very very um you know we can talk about normalizing it and you can say any of the words that are all you know somewhat can be cliche or people can perceive as cliche but you know doing it way harder than saying it and we can say and I can say well you know we're going to normalize regardless of where we're at hot we went through that stretch Road um Day game night game tough travel day um consecutive games in a row we can say what we're going to do when all that is available to us but it's really about how we go about it and our our guys you know actions speak louder than words and they all spoke with their actions you know they all knew what this stretch meant um we had our leadership group you know Manny was really um very positive about what that was going to look like during the stretch all the guys um were very intentional about making sure that not only they were showing up but they were showing up with the right kind of effort and the right kind of um you know mentality to go play and it couldn't have been on display more so and very impressive for the 18 games and including today I mean I looked at the staff before the game and you know we do our part the staff did a really nice job that's a quick turnaround going to a new you know into a new um series and you played on the other coast and you've got a late afternoon game um and I looked up and it was really reassuring which I wasn't surprised about but again I'm not going to take for granted that every single person staff everything was just a normal day we talk about Elite adjusters and you know show up guys were engaged into the competition and um you know it's way easier said than done but we we we we did it now we only draw from it because now that is the identity of who we are which is a very special identity sorry um Mike you talked about um Todd's at bat there in the E just what was your overall assessment of him you know today in the Box in the field how he was moving what' you say I thought he's moving pretty well um it's good to see him in the Box he took that greater bat which I mentioned in move Runners um I mean he's a presence he's just an absolute presence so you know we have um you know a really good group of guys that are going about the right way then lot of guys that whole group brings their presence he's in great addition clearly and we're excited to have him back Now we move forward to the to the next opportunity do you have anything on Wednesday starter U darish what's that going to be like to get him back now too going to be great it's going to be fantastic ball came out really good two times he's thrown um you know clearly took care of himself during his time away um so we're really excited to see him pitch on Wednesday Perez will throw Thursday that was Padre's manager Mike schilz earlier just a few minutes ago after the Padre's win this game three nothing against the Detroit Tigers Sam let it back with you inside the Western medal building after this three nothing win for San Diego so some big news there at the very end confirmed UD darish will pitch on Wednesday for the Padres against the Tigers Martin Perez will throw on Thursday so the Padre's getting Fernando tatis Jr back in the lineup today quiet day for Fernando 0 for four at the plate but you know what he was out there he was playing he looked good look be moving pretty well had to make at least one play by my count in right field as far as catching a Fly ball and moving to a couple of balls uh that that landed in for base hits so he did a nice job today great to see him out there hopefully uh some hits to come in in the coming days but again big news there confirmed from Mike Shel UD darish will pitch on Wednesday and that is a great great thing for the Padres is uh look we've seen the power now of stars coming back and Performing really really well need I say more when we talk about Joe Musgrove and we'll talk more about Joe in our next segment but he was stellar today in command from the opening inning six scoreless Innings and again the Padre's uh did enough offensively to Come Away with a three nothing win two RBI hits for Luis arise One RBI single for Manny Machado you heard Mike Schult talk about approach there offensively and I'm with them look the Padre's just when they had opportunities didn't try to do too much and it paid off in a major way today and we'll we'll sort of wrap up this segment with this we've talked a lot about this 18 game in 18-day stretch so you zoom out a little bit the Padres have now gone 10 and8 to wrap up this 18 game stretch now is it the hottest stretch ever no is it as hot as they were before the last 18 games no but that was very hard to keep up how well they were playing for for the early part part of the second half but look this was a tough stretch a lot of tough travel some tough opponents some tough pitching they faced and they come out of it 10 and8 and by the way like I alluded to earlier they come out of this stretch of 18 straight games in 18 days you know what at the end of the day with Arizona losing today they hold the number one wild card spot so they come out of it I think really really well the schedule lightens up a lot as far as off days it becomes way more manageable the rest of the way quite frankly the travel becomes way more manageable the rest of the way the Padre's aren't going to leave the the Pacific time zone the rest of the calendar so again you zoom out at this 18 game stretch they went 10 and8 not bad you'll take it you keep it moving and again at the end of this Labor Day weekend if the season ended today the Padre's are hosting that wild card Series so zoom out a little bit all in all I think you have to be pretty happy with where they're at and I'll tell you what this was a good win today that was not easy what the Padre's had to do in the last 24 hours they played a close game against the Rays yesterday had to get on a cross country flight everybody got home what around 9:30 10 10:30 p.m. last night by the time everybody got home and then you show up today it's a pretty early game 3:40 and you know credit to Joe Musgrove did a big thing today he was dominant Bullpen got it done they got enough offense and it was one of those days where you just were trying to find a way to win and that's exactly what they did as they win it 3 to nothing we'll step aside when we come back we'll talk more about Joe Musgrove we may have some additional postgame reaction coming from inside the Padre's Clubhouse we'll get into your phone calls a little bit later as well final score Padre's three and the Tigers nothing our postgame show continues after this e e e e tell [Music] our postgame show continues here on the Padre's radio network Sam levit with you inside the Loft here at the Western metal building at Petco Park as the Padre's win it 3 nothing against the Tigers to open up this three- game series and the padr stretch of 18 games in 18 days finally comes to an end Padre's we'll enjoy a well well deserved off day tomorrow and it is a bit of a weird off day in the middle of a series Padre's then continue this three-game series against the Tigers on Wednesday we found out just a handful of minutes ago you darish will return on Wednesday very very good to hear so he'll be on the man for the Padres on Wednesday Martin Perez will start on Thursday for the Padres and they won two in a row Padres improved to 79 and 61 with this Victory here today let's tell you about today's relief pitcher of the game which pitcher was able to come in and slam the door shut it's time for the relief pitcher of the game in support of the Jacobs and kushman San Diego Food Bank providing food assistance to local children families and seniors in need to get help or give help visit San Diego foodbank.org and he's at second with two down for Rogers One nothing Padres in the top of the seventh inning and the two- pinch sent in the air to shallow center field Bard's back from second base calling forward on the Outfield grass and he makes the catch to end the inning no runs a hit and one man left on base a relief pitcher of the game we'll give it to Jason Adam today a scored the seventh inning at the time it was only a one nothing game gave up a two out single a stolen base tying run on second got the pop out like you heard there to end the inning so for that reason Jason Adam will be our relief pitcher of the game really you could have gone with tan or Scott who gave up a one out double then struck out two to strand the tying run on second base in the eighth inning Robert Suarez working with a three- nothing lead in the ninth inning gave up a lead off single but then a double play a pop out ended the game so you you really had three good options here today but this was one of those games where when the Padres made the trades for Jason Adam for Tanner Scott this is exactly what they envisioned having a close game where you need High leverage guys to come up with big outs and it was a one- nothing game for Adam he did that it was a one- nothing game for Scott he did that and then Robert Suarez doing what Robert Suarez has done all year and for the most part getting the job done in the ninth inning so this is exactly how they draw it up this is the ideal situation in a close game when you have Adam Scott and Suarez available 789 and they all did a great job here today they did a great job avoiding allowing a tying run in scoring position to get home certainly in the cases of Adam and Scott so we'll give to Jason Adam and I'll also add this for Adam look yesterday you'll look at his final line it'll say one scoreless inning now Adam came in yesterday in that sixth inning replacing Dylan CE with the bases loaded and nobody out he hit a batter that led to a run scoring double play ball led to another run scoring a wild pitch led to a run scoring so even though he wasn't charged with any of those runs three runs did come in with him on the map so this did feel like a little bit of a bounceback outing today for Jason Adam feels like he was sharper today and look one run game they can give up a base hit they can give up a double in the case of Scott you just got to keep your team in front and that's what Adam Scott and ultimately Robert Suarez did in this ball game as the Padre's win it three to nothing we'll take your phone calls a little bit later 833 288 0973 again 833 28897 3 the phone number to call if you want to get involved when we come back we'll talk about our player of the game we'll also have additional postgame reaction from inside the Padre's Clubhouse we should hear from Joe Musgrove should hear from some others as well after this three nothing win our postgame show continues when we return on the Padre's Radio Network e e e e e [Music] our postgame show continues here on the Padre's radio network final score Padre's three and the Tigers nothing Sam love it with you inside the Loft here at the Western metal building at Petco Park as we wrap this one up Padre's get a series opening win against the Tigers on this Labor Day they'll enjoy an off day tomorrow and then continue this series on Wednesday against the tig you darish we learned earlier will return on Wednesday so the return of Fernando tatis Jr today that was awesome to see and Darvish will be back on the mound on Wednesday here at Petco Park let's tell you about today's player of the game which player had the biggest impact on today's game let's find out who is today's player of the game presented by Valley View Casino and Hotel catch every game at patties and PS plus enjoy $4 beer every Thursday visit Valleyview casino.com today now two and two Joe delivers and strike three call dropped in his best curveball of the day it'll be his eighth k and a wonderful way to end the afternoon no runs a hit two men left on base Joe Musgrove our player of the game he was great today once again six scoreless Innings three hits he walked two struck out eight 94 pitches threw a lot of strikes 61 of them he was really really sharp in this game and I'll get to Joe's overall numbers since coming off the i in a moment but he's been really good since coming off the iel I mean he has looked like the sharp dominant version of Joe Musgrove now a couple of times there was that outing against the Mets on the Friday where he was fantastic seven scoreless Innings and there was the outing today I mean he was so sharp today there were really two instances where he got in trouble and he was able to work his way out of it in the fourth inning walks the lead off man gives up a single two on nobody out retires the next three including a strike out of Tolson to end the fourth inning and then the sixth inning gets the first two outs then a single a walk and then gets a strike out of Colt Keith to end that sixth inning so even when he got in trouble he found a way out of it he had eight strikeouts in this game he was spinning it well I thought Joe looked great and you look at the overall numbers since he's come off the ilil five starts a 1.30 ER 27 and 2/3 Innings 27 strikeouts and six walks so again a 130 in 27 and 2/3 Innings since coming off theil and to me it says a couple of things number one it says that Joe's pitching really well and that's a really big deal for this team and I think it also shows you the power of getting a guy like that back and when we talk about U Darvish coming back on Wednesday why is that so important why is that so big because UD darish has the potential to pitch like that as well no doubt about it so in getting Musgrove back and getting darish back now in the month of September the Padres are adding two guys who are Frontline starters in a rotation they were without him for a while but now they're back and from a September perspective from a potential postseason perspective that's enormous so Joe's been really good he was really good today six awesome Innings from Joe Musgrove no runs three hits two walks and he struck out eight so no doubt about it today Joe Musgrove our player of the game let's go downstairs here at Petco Park and here's some postgame reaction from Joe Musgrove who got today's win uh a lot better about it um kind of got away from me in the the end of that sixth inning but able to sneak out of there with a middle middle curveball to get out of that jam so um I thought a command that did really well all game up until that point um breaking balls were really good the fast ball to the top of Zone was great um I had a really good Sinker which I've been missing the last couple starts so feel like that pitch Sinker and the change of kind of open up the rest of my game so nice having those uh ready to go today also since coming off the I it's been pretty good the start was great two starts ago was great as well do you feel like you're getting back to know keep form if you will yeah I mean you know part of it is just getting your stuff you know to the spots like execution you know I feel like I have a good game plan going into every start but um you know Big League hitters are a little bit different than some of the minor league guys you face in the Rehab start so you know you can feel as good as you want but until you get to you know get some live looks in there and see how your stuff plays and um you know adding a new pitch in and trying to find ways to use that in the right situations um I'm getting more and more comfortable with each start but that's you know getting back to a lot closer to to myself so you mentioned the curve ball was this one of those days did you feel you know coming out the bullpen this was going to be a good day was it first inning when did you feel like yeah I mean I never put too much stock into my bullpens before the game I use that strictly just to get warmed up um I've had plenty of batting where my stuff's terrible down there and it's great in the game and sometimes it's great down there and doesn't work out in the game so um I'm pretty far past putting a lot of stock into the bull pins and using that to kind of give me motivation or confidence going into the start but um I there's some good ones down there some bad ones but ultimately when I get on those eight warm-up pitches before the game starts is where I kind of have an idea of where my stuff's going to be at so that was Joe Musgrove as far as his postgame comments after six scoreless Innings here today he was absolutely terrific again Joe improving to 5- four on the year and like I said a 130 now in five starts since coming off the iil with you darish his return from the iil now looming on Wednesday well Manny Machado had a nice moment in this game RBI single in the eighth inning he was one for four today Manny's been swinging the bat really well as of late and what you loved about that it bat in the eighth inning it's a two- nothing game Padre's are just trying to add on to the lead you don't need Manny to hit a huge home run there just trying to keep it rolling and make a a two-run lead three-run lead and didn't try to do too much he just put a ground ball through the right side of the infield another run scored Machado picking up the RBI and it made it a three nothing game Robert Suarez did the rest in the ninth inning let's go back downstairs here at Petco Park inside the Padre's Clubhouse here's some postgame reaction from Manny Machado Manny how big to get this version of of Joe musk out throw the m you guys he's been he's been light off for us ever since he came back you know he's looking like his own s just feeling healthy feeling good and um to have him back healthy um has been huge for us so uh you know we need them to get to where we want to get to and um he's been going out there and doing his part to return today second to last home stand of the year after 18 straight games in 18 days what can to boost to find out that tatis is back and the garish Returns on Wednesday yeah I mean guys we're getting guys are getting healthy you know I think that's the most important part um you know they're they're healthy they're come back and um you know our team is looking back back back to their own self so um you know we got to continue doing what we got to do and um you know stay stay mentally prepared for uh you know what what our end of end of the season goal is Mike said that you was back on Wednesday just what what kind of a boost does that give you guys it's going to be huge I mean again it's just like Joe did you know Joe came back and uh you know was a big part of um you know last multiple starts and I think you going to be the same um you know so having another guy go out there and and and our Ace is back on the mound um you know not just for for the for the ball Club but I think for everyone um you know we have that confidence that that that the team's back healthy and and ready to roll Manny how much fun are you guys having right now in the middle of this Chase right now you guys are right there in the mix yeah I mean it's it's been fun baseball all year um you know this team has been you know we've been competing all year we've been growing as a as as a team as an organization and um you know we're going to continue doing that you know at the end of the day we go out there and we compete every single day um you know this is the last uh you know this last 18 was was a tough one for us and uh you know everyone uh you know we all left it out there for for this last one and you know now what kab off is just month is going to be huge for us and um you know but at the end of the day just stay ment be prepared for for what what our goal is and try to reach that sure all right that was uh mny Machado after today's game you heard Mandy there on the return of Fernando the return of Y darish as well so we'll see we may have some additional postgame reaction coming from inside the Padre's Clubhouse after this three nothing win for the Padres against the Tigers let's tell you what went on today around the major leagues and also update you on those wildcard and divisional standings let's take a trip around the bigs and tell you about the scores you need to know in our outof town scoreboard presented by Jensen meet where great taste meets Integrity we take a look at the out of town scoreboard a number of games have gone final already Mets beating the Red Sox 4 to Oakland twins beat the Rays 5 to four in sampa Bay the Dodgers beat the Diamondbacks 11 to six in Arizona Freddy Freeman Su home runs in that game for La that's a critical game when it comes to the Padre's right now again we'll have more on that in a second Reds beat the Astros 5 to3 in Cincinnati earlier today Guardians beat the Royals 4-2 in can Kansas City Josh Naylor a two-run home run in that game for the Guardians Orioles beat up on the white socks 13-3 in Baltimore Brewers beat the Cardinals 9 to3 in Milwaukee willly adamus a three-run home run in that game for the Brew Crew two games going on right now Yankees ahead of the Rangers 7 to1 in Arlington in the seventh inning Pirates five Cubs three at Wrigley Field in Chicago in the ninth inning and that is a full look at the out of town Scoreboard on this Labor Day so where are we right now and we can give you a pretty good picture of the Wild Card Standings again that the one game that is still underway that matters right now in the Wild Card race Pirates and the Cubs but the Cubs are are the farthest team away right now that uh we're really focusing on so where are we right now well the good news today the Padres beating the Tigers Diamond Backs losing to the Dodgers so the Padres have jumped ahead of the Diamond Back backs by a game for the first wildcard spot so the Padre's will end the day in that number one wild card spot in the National League Arizona a game behind and then Atlanta three and a half games behind uh the Padres for that first spot the Mets with their win today improved to a half game behind the Atlanta Braves for that third and final wild card spot so the Mets they were three games out a few days ago they have now closed so within a half half game of that third and final wild card spot the Cubs are still playing right now the Braves don't play today so if the Cubs win they would be two and a half out if the Cubs lose they would be three and a half out behind Atlanta again the Cubs losing right now in the ninth inning 5 to3 against the Pirates in Chicago as far as the NL West here's the way things look Padres do remain five games behind the Dodgers for first place place in the National League West the Diamondbacks dropped the six games behind Del so like I said earlier look Padre's fans I'm not telling you to root for the Dodgers okay I understand it but look there was a clear benefit this weekend the last four days to the Diamondbacks losing those games and here today a good example Padres win Diamondbacks lose Padre's now are all alone in the top wild card spot now look if the backs would have went and uh and sweat the Dodgers you know you you would have taken that you would have picked up ground in uh in the NL West but again the Diamondbacks would also pick up ground so look there's a bit of an argument for both I think there's probably more of an argument right now for the Diamondbacks losing good news today Diamondbacks lost forget the opponent they lost Padre's won Padre's jump a game in front of Arizona and that is the way we end today again the only result right now in question is the the Cubs if they win or lose but right now if you're a Padre's fan like I wouldn't worry a ton about that right now Padre's are in a good position again 10 and8 after this 18 game and 18 day stretch and uh they will end that stretch in the number one wild card spot which I think is all things considered a pretty good place to be we'll step aside when we come back we'll have our play of the game we may have some additional postgame reaction coming from inside the Padre's Clubhouse so stay tuned for that if you want to get a phone call in phone number is always 8 8 33288 0973 again 833 288 0973 final score padr 3 Tigers nothing our postgame show continues after this on the Padre's Radio Network e e e e he oh yeah our postgame show continues here on the Padre's radio network final score here today Padres three and the Tigers nothing Sam levit with you inside the Loft here at the Western metal building as we wrap this one up but the Padre's win it uh three to nothing against the Tigers here today Padre's improved to 79 and 61 the Tigers dropped to 70 and 69 on the Year Joe Musgrove again terrific in this game six scoreless Innings the bullpen Trio of Adam Scott and Suarez they were terrific a scoreless seventh inning a scoreless eighth inning a scoreless ninth inning Adam Scott and Suarez just like you draw like to draw it up out of the bullpen and the Padres is getting just enough offense we'll talk more about the offense here in just a second what the Padre's did do offensively today obviously the headline of this game coming in the return of Fernando tatis Jr in his first game since June J unee 21st I'll tell you it was really cool watching Fernando go out run into right field interact with the fans his first at bat a really nice Ovation he was over for today look I I really don't care about the the box score today for for Fernando bottom line he was out there he looked good looked to move pretty well and he's out there playing in the midst of you know really meaningful baseball in the month of September so that was my takeaway today obviously you want results as well but today that's my takeaway got a win Fernando was back out there and U hopefully more hits to come in the coming days let's go back downstairs here at Petco Park here's some postgame reaction this is what Fernando tatis Jr had to say after today's win Fernando how good it it feel to get back out there oh it was amazing amazing the fans were incredible just amazing energy all the way around like I mentioned earlier just happy to be back with the boys and just great doll all the way around fun was it to run out the right field and have the fans welcome you back like that they enjoyed it just as much I think it's a beautiful feeling man I wish I could put it into words but I had good respa my my energy went right to the roof and you know that was the push that I definitely needed and it was just beautiful all the way around any butterflies like opening day butterflies getting back out yeah of course of course uh a lot of butterflies I say but like I like I mentioned the energy was through the roof and uh you know I love this city I love this every single San Diego and you know everything we do over here is for them was there anything about actually being in a game to end that was just maybe a little bit quicker or just got the energy going a little bit more did you feel like the speed with everything I feel with the speed I feel like I was right on on track with everybody um and I got some good pictures today but it's part of the game Michael was super happy with your last B too just sort of doing what the situation needed you saw the hole on the right side just great great approach right there just the baseball instincts picking up where they left off yeah exactly playing the beautiful game of baseball is doing what what the game asked for and you know that that's that's not just me that's what this team has been doing since day one and we keep showing every when did they decide you were coming back tonight was there any discussion about taking off coming back on Wednesday uh I feel like that was taking like 10 days before we were looking at schedule we were you know um we were talking back and forth of how they look better and uh what was the best overall but you know we got together and we we decided the second was the best day I think you mentioned just months ago that originally you thought you might miss the entire season just to come back like how much the difference is that I mean that was the beginning of the conversation when I first went down you know there was a lot of chance of me missing the entire season and you know right away that was a big Downer that was that's just shocking because one day I was in the field and the other day I was probably losing the season but you know just all credit to all credit to the training staff and to the doctors over here I feel like we have put the right conversation and we have done the right stuff to get back on track and we definitely did it sooner that uh we definitely did sooner that we that it was going to happen physically how do you feel physically how do you feel I feel really good I feel really good I feel uh I got I got a couple bursts of Sprints out there and I felt amazing uh I was moving them around grade and you know I just run I just wanted to run as fast as I can but didn't happen to it's amazing you know Joe since he came back he bounced he bounced back right away his fill in the spot and you know he has done just an incredible job of taking care of business that's that's that's the type of picture that he is and you know I'm just glad that he's healthy and we're back in the same field start you guys have the full Squad back together now is that what it feel it definitely feels like that but you know this is a great group and we're going to push together hard have you stop smiling since you got the news that you you good to go I did not I did not I feel like um it just show how much I love to play this game and you know how much I love being out there doing what I love to do and it's just an amazing feeling Fernando how cool was you for I know you were sitting out but how nice was it to watch Jackson Merl just kind of emerge while you were kind of sitting out him just kind of take the rein for until you came back it's amazing you know the kids is an amazing talent he's he's gonna be a great baseball player he's this is just the beginning of this of his career and I know he's going to do way more of what he of what he has been doing so far that was Fernando tatis Jr inside the Padre's Clubhouse earlier just a handful of minutes ago Padre's winning at 3 nothing and again the big headline coming in Fernando returning to the Padre's lineup first game he played since June 21st great to see him out there and it comes in a win as the Padre's are Victoria is here today three- nothing against the Tigers let's hear today's play of the game what was the crucial play that determined who came out on top this is today's play of the game presented by Bill how Plumbing Heating in air one run lead now but a chance to add O2 arrives on the ground through the left side and a base hit got it past Sweeney who is drawn in RBI single as yashioka scores and the Padre lead is now two to nothing our play of the game that RBI single for Lis arise in the eighth inning it was really take your pick between the early RBI single that gave the Padre's a one- nothing lead that would prove to be all they needed in this game and the second RBI single from Marise in the eighth inning that made it to nothing Manny Machado would have an RBI single on the eighth to make it three nothing as the Padre's go on to end by that final score but we give it to the eighth inning RBI Bas sit for a rise just because it it really felt like they needed more right I mean it's one nothing they got a run in the third felt like you just things would be easier if you got more Padre's got one run of insurance than they got two so we uh selected that second RBI base hit to make it two to nothing in the eighth inning for a rise as our play of the game really productive day for Louise two hits two RBI and a run scored and look out of the three runs the Padres collected in this game arise drove in two so he had a very nice day at the plate and really we talked about it pregame he swung the bat uh very nicely as of late so good stuff from arise uh look that's the beauty of of what he does so well he comes up in two spots in this game once with a runner on second base in the third then Runners on first and third in the eighth inning and there's spots where you're just looking for a base hit not just because of the runners on base but because of the situation right eighth inning there you're just looking for at least one more Insurance run to give Robert Suarez a little bit of breathing room and that's exactly what arise provided so hey a lot of situations where there's nobody else should want up other than Louis arise and uh certainly that rang true in a couple of spots here today all right as always if you missed any portion of our postgame coverage you can go back and listen to all of it on the inside s San Diego baseball podcast with Sam levit available on the Odyssey app or wherever you find your podcast you can also go back and watch any portion of our postgame show on the 973 the fan YouTube channel as well taking a look at Wednesday's game remember the Padre's have an off day tomorrow very well deserved 18 games in 18 days comes to an end here today Padre's go 10 and8 in that and they end today 79 and 61 on the season so off day tomorrow then the Padre's return to action on Wednesday here at Petco Park first pitch on Wednesday at 6:40 p.m. our Eco Water SoCal Padre's pregame show will begin at 540 right-hander UD darish on the mound for the Padres it'll be right-hander kaider Montero on the mound for the Tigers so U darish making his return to the mound on Wednesday today very exciting with Fernando back and certainly Wednesday should be very very exciting as well as Darvish takes the mound here at Petco Park taking a look at the final totals in game one of this three game set for the Padres three runs eight hits no errors they left on five for the Tigers no run six hits one error they left on seven winning pitcher in this game Joe Musgrove who improves to 5-4 losing pitcher Brennan hanify who drops to 0 and one and the save goes to to Robert Suarez his 31st of the Season time of game 2 hours and
