How long will Wilfried Zaha stay at Crystal Palace? | The Debate | Higginbotham and Bellamy

[Music] Wilfried Zaha who signed a five-year deal only last summer pens a new five-year deal today and we see the Crystal Palace chairman and co-owner Steve Parrish beaming proud as punch can you understand why Craig of course look it they were quiet in a transfer market we know we you know we were here last week and we know the reasons why as well but at the same time they're a solid team they believe in a manager and they believe they have enough to stay up but the conditions are this man has to stay he has to be part of that a lesser a silly offer came in which would be like trying to buy Crystal Palace financially as well because the ease worth that much to him it's just good business for Crystal Palace to keep him and they have a great chance now I was staying in a Premier League I I believe they will stay in a Premier League and also to know what they've looked after him I know we had a contract but it's you know it's it's good reward to the club to say general well we'll give you even more money to stay that's how much you mean to us did but did they need to do that Danny if he's already on a five-year deal why not why not I think is a type of player that you can build a team around him he seems very much a confidence player as well and you know the way he plays at Crystal Palace he has he has that free role to go and do what he wants to do to go and roam around he as a defensive responsibilities taken away from him and we saw the difference in Crystal Palace when he was out of the team and you know I think with him in the team like crazy I said I think you guarantee Premier League status and you know that's worth a lot so I think it's it's worked well for both parties that thinkers in terms of the Football Club they have extra security if somebody does come in and make a biddin in the meantime so hard gets what he wants and and quite rightly so because I think he's been outstanding it's quite interesting as well Steve Parrish said nobody would have paid what he's worth to us you understand what he's saying there yeah I completely agree and understand what he's saying here because you know that the riches of staying in a Premier League financially what I could do for you as a football club like we just saying and he Karen tease you that he really really does because you know if he missed a lot of games last season and they like to address that as well this year and I'm sure they will they didn't gain a point you know they you know his when he wasn't in that team it was so evident they were missing him and when you know the points they picked up was due to him and it's very difficult and I don't want to sound disrespectful to the rest of the Crystal Palace players but he gets him taken he's that fret he can do something out with nothing where you know they have their good group of players good ability but he's your he's your x-factor he's the one who's gonna win you games so for Crystal Palace to keep him was great that was there all right they were quiet in a transfer market yeah they made one or two good additions but long as they kept him made it a real successful transfer window for me and they've rewarded him off the back of it and it's I'm I think I'm comfortable Crystal Palace and the business I've been given the you're both eulogizing about Wilfried Zaha are you both then slightly surprised that there wasn't actually a firm bid from anybody I think if you if you look at it so so you say the the clumsy could potentially go to it first of all and it could be is gonna go to who wants to be Stein is it that stage in his career now is 25 years of age you know you look at Chelsea's going to be competing with hazard is he better than hazard no isn't he's not going to be in my opinion I think the reason it works so well from a Crystal Palace as well is that we've spoken about the fact that they build a team around him he has the defensive responsibilities taken off into a certain extend the team is built around him if he goes to ER to a Chelsea to a Manchester City to a Liverpool they're not going to build the team around him and there's going to be a lot more competition for places and I think how he stands up so much at Crystal Palace is that he is a player at that Football Club that will probably attract two or three plays from the opposition that then frees up Hoover plays within his team but when you talk about other teams that he could go to is it going to be a guaranteed star does he fit into the the systems that other teams play because you know you look at Manchester City for example people talk about Guardiola and the the attack in Vanessa they have going forward they still put shift in defensively in my opinion that's not so hard strongest point but getting one-on-one with somebody you'll create all all manner of problems yeah and he's I'm sure there will come a time where he'll want to go back to testing him so because you know he moved too much night at a very young age and I like I seen him he come to Cardiff on loan you can see he clearly wasn't ready for us for that step at this stage in his career you can see he's matured yeah he looks a different player to the player I played with completely different play and also look he looks like a man now before then I thought he was a kid I'm not sure he had the work ethic to get to the top but he's clearly understood what happened he's learned from it and he's I feel he's just gonna keep growing so there will come a time where he won't want that move he won't want to test him so that level but that's necessarily gone forever then no no that won't be gone because he it just with the ability he has because of there probably I wouldn't say bitterness but that would have left a bad taste in disappointment yeah they would cost of course so I'm sure he had wanna try it you know he'd want to go back to there not just you much united but to where you can win trophies and that's no disrespect to Crystal Palace but at this present moment he's honor he looks a very very good football over them so what would you say then crater - maybe the cynics would say well he didn't make it a big club last time if he's and he's and he's more comfortable being a big fish in a small pond I disagree with that look he found it it comes from Crystal Paris you franksen in yep then exceptionally well then got a brilliant move to munch United yet it didn't quite work out and he's not the only player but I do believe it was just probably a little bit too early for him he's gone back to Crystal Palace so he might have been a little bit dejected he might have been a little bit disappointed lost a bit of confidence but Crystal Palace supporters and I'm standing here they adore him and you can see the confidence in him as a as a player he's home he's home he won't he will not get loved any more than what if the way he's going to left off the Crystal Palace supports this present moment so this is a good place for him now at this at this moment but there will come a time in the next season I don't believe her be this season but next season definitely the season after he's gonna wanna he's gonna want to try that you think he'll see out this five-year deal then if he could no no don't answer for you won't see that I I agree I don't think he will what I also look I think there's two things that stand out about is moved to Manchester now first of all I think if Sir Alex Ferguson yeah was still there the following season would things have been different Lee oh yeah I believe there would have been but secondly as creator said before there's a lot of plays go to big clubs get swallowed up and you never see them again his mentality is unbelievably strong because obviously he's come back to Crystal Palace you know maybe people thought okay you know this is gonna be his level but he's kicked on again so that tells me that like crazier said he's now he's now a man you can see his mentalities confidence as a play he wants to be the main man he wants the ball you know Crystal Palace are in trouble give me the ball he'll go and get on with it so yeah he signed a long-term contract at Crystal Palace ball do I believe that he can play in the top four top five teams without question and it's doing him no harm being at Crystal Palace or mom because you're gonna keep improving and I would after watched him over the last couple years and if I was a manager at those top clubs he proved a lot to me yeah to me I'll be like you know what I like this kid doctors as a footballer he's strong and I believe he has what it takes now he didn't before like I said he was too young but now he has the mentality to go to those top clubs and I believe he to make an impact there what does it tell us then about his character that he's chosen to sign this contract with Crystal Palace now and that might sound like a naive question because he's already there he's on a five-year deal and they've bumped his money up significantly but he would have made the decision as well that this is where his foreseeable future lies it was there anyway look I'm sure he's got a really good relationship with Steve parish at the same time and I don't want to sound it just take the money it's free money hey please don't this is an opportunity like if we're gonna sell him and someone comes in with a bid we we find acceptable then you're gonna go anyway no matter how much we're paying you we're gonna get that money back we love you we want you to feel the love of us as a football club so let's just give you more money enjoy your football keep doing what you're doing for us it's a win-win for everyone I think I think football on the pitch and off the pitch is about timing and however it be on the pitch the decision-making they're you know making a run for a pass making a challenge but also off the pitch it's time and about when is the right time to move to another Football Club what club what Football Club suits you most because as we said previously there's been a lot of players young players that have moved on to big football clubs and it's been the signal of the end of their career and I think Zaha is gone smash and I obviously didn't work out I think the long run I think that will end up being a blessing in disguise from because we talked about his mentality boy he's got his home at the moment at Crystal Palace I think the Crystal Palace will improve from last season I think Roy Hodgson's done a fantastic job there and like Craig said the Harz love there easy is one of them you know and he loves playing for the football club um when the time does come where a another club comes in for him it's all about the time and is it the right Club and is it the one that's going to sue him you've both seen the stats his importance to Crystal Palace so he's not somebody would ever shirk and even it when there's been speculation there's nobody who gives let what gives more than he does but is it possible even see even more of a lift in his performances now which makes it an even better move for the club yeah yeah I think so I think what I like about Sahar is that it's done it's done it for a few seasons now and you always look at it when a play burst on scene you give him the sort of a little bit of grace enough first season because not too many people know about it yeah and the second season that become Marmont months they've then got to change their style again and we saw so many times a hard last season two or three players around him he collects the ball he's not afraid to take the ball in in his situation and all of a sudden Loftus cheat would have been free Townsend would have been free benteke would have been free so at times as a selfless plays well he drifts over to that left-hand side and he drags plays with him so what he does he brings out the best in the plays around him and that's a sign of a top cosplayer
