Harry Kane marks 100th England cap with two goals vs. Finland | ESPN FC

hi so here's how things are looking for Lee Carley's Three Lions right now 2-n against Finland both goals coming from Harry Kane the 67th and 68th of his England career on his 100th cap when it comes to standings obviously that's how things are shaping up there but most appearances with England Men's National Team and you can see where he falls on the list right now and by there are some names on that list by the way oh there was a gou line uh on the commentary apparently in the UK uh which obviously we weren't uh we we didn't have here that you know if you're watching this game and and this game has also been broadcast in Scotland on uh on ITV uh ITV the host broadcaster for the United Kingdom for this one and the commentator said if you crunch the numbers from now to 2026 Harry Kane could win he's 125 cup at the World Cup final that's a that's the hypothetical of hypothe sure this is this iseal this is the open top bus tour already for the World Cup final I was not aware you got a cap for sitting on your sofa on your backside at home cuz when last were they in a World Cup final 1966 didn't get to the one a few years ago cuz Croatia out mastered them outclassed them anyway that was the line do they say do they don't is there a little bit of English arrogance in there or what is there commentator yes but from Harry Kane tonight no no that's a very general thing by the way very not the whole of England 99% right Harry Kane Harry Kane I'm am now I watched it yeah yeah you're balancing the uh terrific player terrific servant can that's all brilliant I'd have them on my team most people would the actual game you know England got some exciting youngsters that Southgate was criticized for not using you know in a better way mad made his debut Goden look sharp Young Angel Gomez has come in play it plays in France uh won his second cap but again we talked about this the other day uh you know in Trent Alexander an his range of passing in the game is just incredible I mean just scary these balls that he's he's almost not shanking but sort of fading and bending into people over the top and but England are in league b i I said this after The Island Game England in league b of this Nations league and and and in terms of an analysis it's a complete waste of time a complete waste of time it's like turning up for some sort of pre-season game because uh Ireland are 58th in the FIFA rankings Finland are 63rd and this was just not a contest Finland had a couple chances in the first half I'll give them that right on the break the second half was so one way and and England did some good stuff but you can't Jud I personally maybe everybody thinks differently I don't know it's hard to judge Elite level players in England are an elite Level side to an extent they've not got over the line but they're up there certainly to be competitive you can't judge them against these teams the guy a guy come on for Finland who plays for exitor in the third tier of English football it's not a fair contest and so they're in league b i get it but you you can't really I don't think Stevie judged them the problem the problem is is that this is perfect for the hierarchy at the fa because you get a feeling that they can't wait to show on Lee casley in and what better way to do it than off the back of four or five wins because if I mean the teams that they're playing they should beat and so for the fa it's perfect would why wouldn't we give him a job he's just won four games in a trot five games in a trot he's absolutely perfect he's he he's for the fa he's off the same mod mold as Southgate he'll tow the line he's a gentleman he'll treat the Press well well I mean it's just it's just another South Kate because he has no real experience at Elite level with elite players but if he wins games which he's going to do then the AF are delighted we we're all sitting watching this game this is a waste of time I mean it's just it's a matter of time before the score it's a matter of how many game how many goals it's going to be but for the fa this is great well you've been there before when you play against talent that are maybe not a level or your level and you start doing things you normally wouldn't do habitually you wouldn't defend a player this way but you know you can get away with it you wouldn't attack a player this way you can get away with and this could be quite frankly something that could hurt England because you're not playing against Elite level you're not in the you're not playing against those really good countries in what is that's why they mess up when it comes to the big games when they play proper teams in the tournaments I mean again the argument the argument back would be well they got the sem they got here they got there but the fact is even in even in the tournaments they're not playing anybody but what but every single time they' played anybody they lose but as I said the Nations league is fantastic for the fa an England manager like a Spanish manager like a French manager like a German manager uh like any of these managers can only be judged in major tournaments they really can I mean for example Stevie Clark one second one second Mario Stevie Clark I'm going to go to Scotland he's he's having a bit of a hard time at the moment but we could judge him for a couple of years on getting this limited team to the Euros in Germany to the European championships in England in 2021 which they did because it was 20 it was it was over 20 years 1998 since Scotland were last year so we could kind of Judge that as well that was a good job cuz it's because getting there but with the other teams these games you can't judge manager on whacking Finland you can't judge him on battering Island I mean Wales beat Finland 4-1 Greece beat them 3-0 I think so you can judge some countries on on these nations leagues and qualifiers but the real elite level teams like the big juggernauts of European football certainly you can't judge their managers until World Cups and European championships that's where they're bread is buttled not here yeah obviously but what can Lee Carley do he's doing exactly what he can do right it's not his but I can see the headlines now we saw after the game against Ireland you know back pages and I can see and and I follow quite a lot of the English journalist uh who I know from from living and playing in England for as long and and I still think they they and most of them are very sensible but even some of them I you're getting carried away here oh this was better oh that was better than Southgate or that was quicker or that he's used that and I'm thinking yeah but you have to you have to look at the opposition and unfortunately Finland they are what they are these boys they work their socks off they work hard and they're they're honest as hell but it's it's a non-contest when it gets to play in teams like England Mario yeah no I I I I understand but also we have to remember when you play when you put on that Jersey from your national team um I think for the guys that maybe for the the the regular ones you know like the the hurricanes and all those kind of guys that used to that kind of uh pressure and everything regardless if you play against a Finland team that you know that you normally have to beat um it's still for the ones that come on it's not that easy so I I feel like in that sense I do have to say because I I've been through it myself and we played Finland for example as well when we had to qualify for the Euro and it was a it was a game that we had to win and I think for them the only thing that that England now has is that um what Greg said is that everybody is is highlighting it because they said they have more freedom but we have to be the freedom is good but they still yeah when the big games come but these are still big games for the young boys that making their debut so that is the only thing that I say that's important for the debut the ones that made their debut that they keep on going and Rising but for England itself I think this is just a step forward because they have to move away from what the the past because they keep on pointing to the pass of Southgate they need to look forward because then they're going to win tournaments [Music]
