Texas Gov. Abbott addresses plans and preparations for Tropical Storm Francine ahead of landfall

Right now, Francine is moving through the Gulf about 100 miles southwest of Louisiana. And forecasts expected to be upgraded to a cat one hurricane here in Texas. Officials will be keeping a close eye on power outages especially after millions of Texans were left in the dark. With hurricane Barrel DEA Wall has been listening to what Governor Abbott said when he briefed the media this afternoon. Well, Chris part of Galveston County is now under a voluntary evacuation order right now, Governor Abbott was in Beaumont today about an hour east of Houston all to get an update on how preparations are going as the storm moves through the Gulf. Just before that, Abbott was briefed by emergency management staff at the State Operations Center in Austin. Then he held a news conference where he stressed the importance of having a plan and making sure you keep an eye out for flooded roads down power lines and storm surge. Governor Abbott was also asked about power outages. You'll remember more than 2 million people lost power when hurricane Barrel made landfall in July. It took nearly two weeks to get power back for everyone leading to frustration as Southeast Texas dealt with extreme summer heat. Governor Abbott says he expects Center Point to be prepared. Centerpoint knows that it is under a microscope, they better be prepared. Uh This is their time to perform. This is their time to show that they're living up to the promises they have made. And that is Abbott did say Center Point has made plenty of changes to its operation all to ensure there will be minimal power outages. He says the expectation is that if anyone loses power, it should be restored quickly.
