Emma your thoughts on the win yeah good win today I think uh you know things weren't looking great there in the second set um but just tried to be really tough stick in there um you know make her hit one more ball I felt like if I could um you know scrap out a few longer points maybe uh put some pressure on her and um you know I I felt like I could um C back and and maybe close it out in two sets so um happy with uh I was able to do that thank you name and affiliation one question please if you would Brian Brian Lewis from the New York Post um I mean you talked about when you were down 5 to one uh I think 155 when you won those five those four streight points um what was it that you I guess sensed about the momentum that you saw crack that you could take advantage of um yeah I think uh I felt like she even though she was up 51 52 after that game I felt like um you know she wasn't totally confident in her ability to close out um that set so I felt like um you know if I could push back a little bit and uh make her think a little bit on on her service game um you know maybe I could sneak my way back in there um and yeah I think sometimes you're out in the court and um you know you can you can kind of picture yourself playing a third set and when I when I was out there I didn't picture myself playing a third set and felt like um yeah I don't know I could come back and and do it in two court WTA congrats Emma um I think you said a while ago that when you got your wild card making your WTA debut in Charleston you walked off the court being like very overwhelmed by that experience when's the last time you have felt overwhelmed on the court cuz it doesn't seem like it's been a while yeah um it's it's crazy that um you know I'm able to walk out on Ash and um feel comfortable cuz it's definitely not uh my nature to you know want to be in this Spotlight and and seek um you know the attention of of a lot of people so um it's kind of crazy just um yeah my comfort level out there um I think uh you know I was a little bit um overwhelmed maybe at Indian Welles playing on Center Court um but I think it's it was so important for me to have those experiences um at that stage to you know be able to come out on a day like today and feel comfortable um you know on on probably the biggest stage in tennis so um happy with my progression um of just feeling more comfortable on on big stages Cindy hey at Wimbledon you said after you beat Naomi that you said you were overwhelmed by the the thought that you were playing on the same court that Roger and Rafa had played on were you thinking about that at all today about the people who had come before you on ash Stadium um no I wasn't I was uh kind of laser focused I guess today and um you know just just locked into the task at hand um but yeah now to to look back and and remember who's played um on me before and having Serena here the other day it's it's it's pretty ins saying that um just all the legends of our sport have uh played on that court and um you know just walked up to the same Baseline that I'm walking up to to serve um yeah it's it's crazy and I definitely feel um you know just very grateful to uh you know be taking that stage and uh be playing the tennis that I'm playing and um have another opportunity to do so in a couple days Phil Philip Bonnie New York Daily News thanked your dad after the after the match tennis is an expensive sport how much did the Family Resources help you earlier yeah I think uh you know I had um access to courts from a young age and um I was able to uh practice with other kids and um you know I had coaches that um would help me out for sure but um you know I think a lot of uh a lot of kids have access to that especially in the US and um you know I think it's it's cool that our sport is growing and more more kids do have uh you know resources like that so um you know for sure it played a role in um allowing me to be where I'm at now and um yeah I'm super grateful that I did have those resources as a kid Howard uh since you could play Jen next I wanted to ask if you could explain what you said after the match in Paris and what you meant by that yeah um I don't want to go super into the weeds with it but um I think during that match and um you know on the practice cord and uh the last few times I've played her because we have been playing each other since um we were Juniors I felt um just a little bit uh disre respected by her and um you know I don't want to like I said uh go too into detail um with it but um yeah I think she didn't necessarily uh treat me or the sport with uh with respect and um that's why I had uh that's why I said what I said after the match um but yeah that's it mat uh can ask about your grandmother who you mentioned I think earlier in the year and she's upstate New York York if I recall or she's in Mystic Connecticut Mystic right around here is she able to come here at all and like is she you you sort of told this story of her calling you after all these matches and sort of like I'm sort of curious how you guys are communicating and how you're seeing her throughout this run yeah my uh aunt and uncle have been uh driving up here for every match and and bringing her with them and um they I think it was after my second or third round um they drove here watched my match uh drove back home they got home at like 10 p.m. I think and then they re-watched my match um so yeah she's insane um uh but yeah it's awesome to have her support I I saw her after my second round match in the stands and um at my first match she she was screaming my name uh when I walked onto the court trying to get my attention and my mom said Grammy's the only person that could get away with doing that so um yeah she's awesome and it's been great to have her here uh few tips uh yeah more uh maybe mental stuff but yeah few tips hi Emma David K tennis.com I'm sorry to go back to the moment about the Olympics but I just wanted to ask because I think it was a moment that surprised people because you're known for being so calm and even keil on court did it surprise you did you surprise yourself when you said what you said at the net and have you had a chance to speak to her in the weeks since then um no I haven't spoken to her since um and no I didn't surprise myself um I I had uh I I felt that way the whole match and even if I um had won I probably would have said the same thing um you know it wasn't a sort of uh in the moment emotional thing it was kind of just how I felt and um you know I think uh it got a lot more attention than I thought it was going to um and and yeah I think uh you know maybe it's just uh one person's opinion but um yeah it was it it wasn't an emotional Outburst it was kind of just matter of factly how I felt Jackson Sporter Co Emma you touched on a little bit before but just wanted to ask you kind of growing up with your wealthier background comp you know compared to your counterparts and opponents how do you think that's helped you you know succeed and accomplish your own goals and TS um yeah like I talked to about before I think uh you know I did have access to um resources as a kid um but you know I don't want that to take take away from the fact that um you know I've worked really really hard to be where I'm at and um I've put a ton of hours in and I started um training twice a day and and getting in the gym from the time I was 8 n years old and um you know it's it's been a ton of hard work and and dedication and um yeah of course having access to um you know courts and and coaches and other kids to hit with um definitely help me but there's also a lot a lot of hard work that goes into it we're gonna go Richard Bill Willie that's all we have time for Richard you gave a shout out to your dad at the end there and I just wondered if you might share any of the conversations you remember having him with him growing up just how he encourage you yeah he's been my number one fan my number one supporter in my entire life um he taught my siblings and I a lot of um really important lessons from from the time we were young that um definitely pertained to tennis but um also just life and um you know I think he was definitely obviously an advocate um for you know me trying to make something of tennis but um he also wanted wanted me to he always said he didn't want me to be a one Trick Pony um so he uh was an advocate of me working really hard in school and um you know it it was always Family School than tennis and I think he did a really good job at um putting things into perspective um you know he didn't grow up with a lot of uh money it was um him and and seven siblings and um my grandfather coached football and um you know he grew up uh as a kid doing odd jobs trying to trying to make a penny and um you know he worked really hard to get where he's at and he instilled a lot of the lessons that uh he's learned along the way into my siblings and I um and yeah I think he was a big proponent that um you know doing uh hard physical things uh makes you really tough and teaches you a lot of a lot of lessons um so I think that was part of the reason that he wanted uh my siblings and I to play sports tennis specifically and um you know I I always um or he always taught us that um you know tennis is really important but it's more about um the lessons you're learning along the way the the life lessons that um you're learning and you're learning how to be tough and resilient and um yeah I think uh I can't remember what the question was but yeah bill and we close it Willie go ahead just a while ago it was uh Tyler Texas and Midlands and all that and now you've had this run from slam to slam to slam and here you are um I believe a while ago you might have said that you were surprised and not surprised if you don't mind could you just go into that again and just briefly where did your granddad coach football please um he coached at w bash for a little bit Williams college and Princeton um and yeah I think uh I think I've gone through periods of time where you know I'm surprised at where I'm at but also um when I look back and think about you know the the methodical approach to um tennis that I've taken and um yeah just that uh you know when I look at uh my physical ability and and my mental ability in this sport it's it's not surprising um and I feel um you know just more comfortable now with with having good results and having success and um yeah I think I've had periods of both um surprise and and not um surprise but uh you know right now I think um I'm I'm ready to uh be in this position and I think that's um probably a result of um yeah just this sort of slow uh gradual um methodical approach I've taken to tennis and and improving myself Willie last question so you mentioned jien in terms of your interactions what about your thoughts on her as a player and the challenge of facing her and then if you wouldn't mind addressing that with regard to Arena um yeah she's a great player I think uh she has a really good serve um I think she has uh really big ground strokes I think she's um super power powerful and um you know covers the court well and um you know puts a lot of pressure on um you as a returner and on on the serve as well um so I think she'll yeah it'll be a great challenge um and sabinka similar um you know big serve big ground strokes um so I'd probably uh take those two matches on kind of similarly um in terms of you know being aggressive and and pushing back against um they're powerful games and um you know as always trying to scrap out some longer points and and make him hit one more ball but you didn't touch on sabil Lanka's experience and being a major Champion what do you think that effect is um yeah I think it definitely comes into play um you know she's been on this stage before she's uh been in this position before um but I feel like she um I don't know she might feel like she has something to lose um whereas I feel like I've I've everything to go after um and you know that's something that uh I work on a lot trying to put myself in a position to go after something um you know no matter the match or or the opponent so um yeah thank you everyone thank you thank you
