doing Coach man get ready for football season man get ready for season man we SL we could not kick season five off the inaugural show of season five we could not kick it off in any more Grand fashion now we got a stand up brother and my show enough Ride die from way back in the day uh man um a ball coaches ball coach and a first class gentleman he he's assumed the position of the defensive coordinator at the University of Michigan and without any further Ado I'm gon bring in my main man D Martin what up way what up wait how you doing guys what's up coach do slim this is a beautiful reunion thank you for coming back on the show Coach thank you for coming back my pleasure my pleasure my privilege come on the show with youo oh man W you know I love your dad oh yeah oh yeah for sure coach for sure I appreciate the love and that's back at you and that's back at wank man so you the defensive coordinator newly hired defensive coordinator brand new head coach brand new defensive coordinator the football program three time back to backto back Big 10 Championship oh by the way the defending national championship and you lose 17 of 22 starters win uh I think it's 10 on offense I'm not sure the count I know I know I like what we have on defense you know what way you know what Wayne and ain't no question but but Wayne take all that into consideration if you at the University of Michigan and you got to ask what do we do you probably at the wrong place no doubt yeah man I love what your head man I love What shiron mo said the standard ain't changed the new folks in the building the standard ain't change we gonna win it all yeah yeah man yeah man the thing that that you that you love about this place is the kids come here and they just go to work and and the same with the staff it doesn't matter what anybody says outside the building it just matters what we say inside building get the work done and uh there you go we've had a good kickoff a training camp and um you know I think there's there's a lot of excitement especially defensively here because we got got a lot of you know we got some good players coming back you know will Johnson a corner we got the two big tackles kg and and and Mason Graham um I like our two inside guys that we have uh and they replacing last year's but uh they're they're doing a nice job and you know we got uh Mari at safety he he uh Mari will remind you of a more athletic Sam garens and probably me and you oh Sam gar New York Jets ccin cincin barcat and he was a giant I believe yeah for a while yeah giant New York Giant that's right New York Giant tall tall angular guy safety y y GS no question man so you know I got him playing all over the place but uh wow uh Mar's doing a great job and got a good good group of leaders and it's going to be it's going to be fun it's going to be exciting you know and I'm excited for you my brother Co it's one you just said it uh way you at the University of Michigan I mean you got third bread they may be young but but but these a you you ain't got no pack mes you you got some you got some dogs they're young dogs but I think you know when I think it's a good fit you got some dogs and I know you going apply that pressure you you a dog a dog and you coaching some dogs so I know so you know that defense G be style coach well you know the thing that uh that helps is is the two prior coordinators both worked with me in Baltimore you know Jesse was with Jesse was with me and McDonald with Jesse worked with the secondary in Baltimore and Mike McDonald worked with the linebackers so that's right Jesse Rick men son so it's you know it's not like I'm it's not like I'm leaving France going to Mexico speaking Spanish it's it's all the same language and and that's comforting for both me and the players you know so got it go ahead when you mentioned the corner that was the first kid you mentioned and and that kid uh rated by a lot of people as the number one corner in college football uh y youro going all the way back to your time in Baltimore is you like to apply that pressure you apply the pressure you got to be able to cover so this kid going to allow you to do the same kind of stuff that can we see uh that that we saw at Baltimore and and New York when you you're a pressure guy I mean tell me I'm wrong tell me I'm no you're right you're absolutely right you know and you gotta you know it's it's it's one of those things that you get the reputation of be a press pressure guy because you know that uh you know how to break the rules of the protections so you know that that's what people remember and I said the other day I said when you win and and you're aggressive to affect the quarterback everybody talks about how creative you are yeah and then if you lose then you Blitz too much yeah Bango but you know sometimes with the Personnel you have you have no other choice you know it's because like if you don't have any Corners which we do here but uh you know the last place we were at you know we struggled so I'm I'm trying to get the ball out quick so they don't have to car carry and cover people all down the field all around the field so it's a great challenge it's going to be a lot of fun you can these like I said these guys are great I've never seen a group in the pros or college that communicate on the field as well as these guys too I'm telling you John it is unbelievable unbelievable man so I'm excited about it uh I'm I'm not excited about these you know I'm getting ready to be a pop for the third time in September you know congratulations coach yeah all three little girls and I love it oh man first time the first time I got called popo somebody like somebody stuck a water hose in my ear tell you man I've been calling a lot of things win but first time I've been call poo I'm tell you that shook me up bro well wait college football little different we was we s that you me Rex John Harbaugh Sam Pitman we all that Cincinnati barricas uh 1996 you at the University of Michigan 2024 two biggest things in college football that you have seen that that that are drastically different from the time we were there this recruiting is a wow wow West okay okay I mean I I I I asked Shon on the interview and then definitely when I come back in May what's what's nil stand for now it's legal we we SL slim and I used to call it new in new inducing leverage new induc yeah earlier earlier but no don't kid wi G good God Almighty it's it's yeah man yeah the game the the the NCAA 2025 I mean it it just came out out I mean the the the money that these kids are making just off of their name alone in the game it's already grossed over $500 million it's only been out a week yep it's and you know what they deserve it you know what I mean the kids do they deserve it and uh it uh it it's it's different but like you know as I told them in one of our first meetings now that you're getting paid you're a professional you can't act like an amateur anymore okay come on now coaching M coaching M and and you know this is this is your life and and your body is your money maker so see see ain't no question ain't no question it's uh it's it's been a lot of fun and uh Chiron is a stud I don't know if you know him or not Johnny M he is he is a stud he go back to Oklahoma he boom he cut his he cut his teeth and oh you yeah yeahuh you opened up the season with Fresno State all 31st now I know you know you got the game of the week September 7th against Texas but before you play before you play Texas you got to get through Fresno State what's the game plan opening opening the season coach well slim it's right now training camp and I'm just m I'm just praying I make it to Saturday Saturday do that as a ball coach answer as a ball coach answer as a ball coach well well my friend we'll talk we'll we'll talk in a couple weeks and I'll let you know got they're going through they're going through a a tough time as well you know because their coach is sick and had to step down and uh uh you know they got an interim head coach now um so it's it'll it'll be it'll be fun I'm excited about it it's it's yeah it's it's uh you know I started off I just want to be school teacher and coach and Ohio D Ohio D Ohio Ohio yes sir had other intentions coach and it's been a lot it's like I said it's been a lot of fun oh hey hey W man I G tell you man uh I know you you play you one practice at a time one rep at a time one game at a time but B I'm G tell you something before I let you go and I appreciate your time so much uh you you are you are in an ideal spot I tell slim all the time it don't make no difference until the end that's all it counts you can be in the back and that's cool as long as you're flying long as you running faster than as long because the only thing counts Secretariat proved that way he he wanted Kentucky he won the Triple Crown two of them races coming from the back you know what I'm saying so the only thing counts is the finish and right where you are you know wherever that is I think I say as high as nine as low as 12 or 15 that's cool yeah don't cuz the only thing counts is the Finish wing and you know that better than me man was all rat poison coach it is uh it's the one thing the challenge is you know and I know on Sundays you you know you play everybody can win you know what I mean on Sundays but this is this is the toughest schedule we've had here in the last three decades I know wait I saw that but now wait wait most of the tough ones though are in the big house in the big house you got Texas come to your place come to your place yeah yeah so uh who else I'm sorry it'll be interesting yeah you're right oron Oregon well Oregon yeah Oregon at your place yep yeah he wait kids come to Michigan young men come to Michigan to play in these kind of situations that's why you came there man I mean this ain't I mean you got you got stallions young stallions but but they're paying I do and one thing certain they will Coach ain't no question that's for sure that is for sure pulling for you I appreciate that pulling for you praying for you man I appreciate that appreciate that even more Mr Wolverines yes sir watch this Hell To the victor to the heroes HS of the West the uh team 145 okay all right team 145th year get out that's tradition there man that's tradition that's tradition man hey you know what man those young men walked at hallway they they they look at uh uh Charles Woodson on the wall man they look at those great players in Michigan man they'll rise to the occasion way you got you got you got some stallion they young stallion you ain't got no pack mes up there so I know you I was with C I was with C Wood too in Oakland Desmond Howard okay yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah absolutely absolutely might might have not I'll go ahead and say it the best tackler I've ever seen oh yeah Charles Woodson Charles Woodson oh yeah oh yeah great player great player no question you know we'll wait and see the season but you know like we brought up about will Johnson he's definitely he he he's a real deal okay all right and he he tackles coach slam training camp bro train Camp everybody all 32 teams L Daddy and ear body they all in the house all 32 of them and you know mil mil we go into this season uh there's some certainties out there on the AFC side let's start on the AFC side first on the AFC side you got Kan City Chiefs going for the threee that's the biggest question on everybody's mind coach can the Kansas City Chiefs do what's never been done in the history of the Super Bowl era and three in the National Football League absolutely correct my brother and big question is who can Dethrone him well and that too but we'll get to that but let's let's chop up why they can go again you know Steve spag noan Steve span coordinator Kansas City Chiefs played 185 snaps last season in DME Personnel for those in our audience who are unaware of football talk D personel DME dime Personnel means you play six defensive backs in coverage you got one linebacker now let's do the math you only have 11 on the field which means you got four men up front that can show enough play and coach we said it all the time on the show if my four can beat your five there you go you got a problem you got a problem and they got they got Chris Jones and that carapus kid they took number one out George carapus they took number one out of Purdue both of those guys are double digit sack guys and a half a piece coach that can play the game I'm telling you slim and then over there on the offensive side of the ball of Patrick Mahomes Travis Kelsey he Brown that's my point right there Patrick Mahomes has demonstrated that Tom Brady quality in that Tom Brady could take average receivers and make them good he could take good receivers and make them very good there you go and he's elevates them well uh they only scored on average last year 21.8 points per game slim and that's the lowest out since Andy Reid took over in 2013 and Coach if you a good team you can score seven points a quarter now we can do math on the show 28 points that's 28 points a game right and but yeah but still SN in spite of that they won the Super Bowl won Super they want superow 58 because he El now he at Hollywood Brown uh in free agency they bring him over they also draft the Xavier worthy kid who ran the fastest time in the combine so they got a guy the combine maybe that's going to remind people of Tyreek Hill certainly he'll be able to take the top off the coverage uh them now on the other side of the coin what could stop them they got to come up with a left tackle it's a battle in Camp right now over the big kid from from Brigham Young he signed with Oregon out of high school what's the kid Kingsley SAA there you go he and the other kid from University of Oklahoma we on yeah they're locked in a head-to-head battle for that left tackle position uh keeping Patrick mahom upright certainly a priority but apart from that F I mean let's see uh uh Ken who could beat him who could stop him from going the biggest one coach I think has got to be your boys in Houston Texas that's going to be number one on my list I mean you you you coming off of a season where you have the rookie the defensive rookie and the offensive rookie are both on the same team absolutely that's how you know you got something special right there absolutely absolutely uh I tell you what slam Houston uh CJ stra showed maturity uh that you never saw in a rookie uh that's rare that's rare in rookies uh he'll have a battery they add Stefon Diggs to go along with tank Dale at the slot and N Collin so so he'll have a a a that that tight end that signning free agency from Dallas schz is a player they greater running back Joe absolutely and they have two first round picks in the offensive line big tackle Titus Howard going into year four from Alabama state Alabama State and laramy tunel the at left tackle who a lot of people think laramy tunel might be the best in the game yeah yeah so if not him uh Tren Williams Tren Williams and and we'll get to San Francisco but I think and I think you're right uh they they certainly will have an opportunity to threee to what the Texans have to do coach they have to start off fast they got to start off hot and they gotta start off fast absolutely Absol coach that bottom schedule that back in man let's go over the first five games though okay they got Indianapolis that's that's division rival in in a division game and it's on the road but game they gotta win but the game they gotta win game they gotta win come back home they play Chicago game they gotta win back on the road they got Minnesota game they gota win come back home they play Jacksonville game he gota win and then they and then they finish with Tennessee then they at Tennessee no but but on back five this what was so important that they get off to a good start because Houston Texans are a warm weather Team all right the NRG so but on that back end of that schedule they at Kansas City and they Baltimore coach that's two teams you don't want to play when it gets cold and my yeah yeah and and the two best teams in the AFC are cold weather teams let's give me give me those last five uh for all right coach uh Jacksonville they play Jacksonville they got Jacksonville in Houston then they got Miami then they're at Kansas City that's right bore in Houston on the road to Tennessee yeah road that back in schedule is going to be tough that back in schedule is going to be tough but I like Houston's chances as well the other team slim that I think will have an opportunity if they maintain true to their identity would be Baltimore certainly but you got to with the addition of Derrick Henry well you would hope they would but uh but Lamar Jackson 26 years old has two MVPs and uh he has vertical threats now they have a running game if they can keep Ronnie Stanley healthy at the left tackle position uh I think that I like the I think Baltimore will have a chance and I'll tell and and who's that other team that you would think the New York Jets coach dang Ding Dang no more then no more calls we gota win I think your spot on correct uh oh son of mine no question about it and but the big thing with the Jets because they got in the in the first in the in they defense they got five first round picks on defense and three of them are in that defensive line I'm talking Jermaine Johnson quinnon Williams and Hassan Redd coach absolutely ready can Rush that pass they he listen this is a and S Gardner in the back come on man gar Wilson Garett Wilson put Mike Williams first round pick out of only only 29 years old again if he can stay stay healthy the Jets have two guys on the offensive unit that will be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame yeah the left tackle Tyron Smith and certainly the quarterback Aaron Rogers big thing with the Jets big thing with the Jets can they stay healthy F right quick before we go to the NFC I had a dark horse that I really felt had a chance because they they they they had they pressure off the edges and I really thought the quarter and I I think I know where you're going with this coach and the LA uh Chargers did you see what happened to Justin her yeah plan of fasad is thing and his foot this kid's gonna be in a Walkin Booth all of camp and so hopefully they'll have him ready by the first game but we just have to pray that young man gets healthy but yeah man so w that AFC gonna be interesting but it is and and and and props to to Coach Harbaugh for taking uh Joe all really really pulling the uh Baltimore Jonathan Ogden move right there okay okay and okay so right quick when we got to get to the NFC right quick you mentioned Jonathan hton I'm I'm excited about what he's going to do too uh I thought having Roshan slay or the offensive tackle from from Northwestern that they took in the first round that can play but then they but but again I applaud the move when you went up front and he was certainly worthy of taking that high they took you off but right quick since you own rookies tell me some more rookies that you're excited about uh this season well obviously coach uh Caleb Williams he's supposed to be the next coming of Patrick Mahomes I want to see is he worth all the hype what what they gave up for Justin fields and they sold out they sold the bag for Caleb Williams I want to see how much that bag was worth well I think I think it was worth it I think he worth it uh economically uh they came out ahead by taking him and trading Justin Fields but they put a battery around that young man now RoR Dunes uh you they just played Rob Moore and they brought over uh uh the wi out from the Chargers uh that can really play uh so I think they they put a battery around I'm excited about I think another rookie I'm excited about I'm excited about what Marvin Harrison Jr is going to do with Arizona with k m and listen all of it and there's such a need they got nobody to throw to there nobody so there's yeah yeah so there's a great need uh what about Jon Daniels in there at at Washington coach the Heisman Trophy winner we gonna talk about the Heisman Trophy winner I I I think he I'm excited about what he's gonna do and I and from the things I've heard he's having he turned up in Camp I heard he's had a fantastic camp and so you know I'm excited about that slim let's get on to the NFC let's do it coach in the NFC I obviously the 49ers are going back I mean if you take a look at that roster coach the weapons that they have Brock p a quarterback Brandon I Deo Samuels Ricky parcel's first round pick then arguably my arguably bless best left tackle Trent Williams in the game and you gonna hand the ball off to chistian mcaffrey every single time I mean come on man how can that team not go back yeah and on defense you got Fred Warner and Joey BOS so they got some Ballers on that team it's a Super Bowl readymade roster uh Milton do you think at the end of the season Brandon iuk is still a 49er or absolutely coach I think they realize that I think Brandon iuk realizes that hey this is my best opportunity to get a ring I am contractually obligated to play I'm going to play because I am a player okay I'm not gonna say money yeah yeah and make that and and stand out and play like Brandon I and somebody going to pay you know and and and the 49ers would then probably smart to take Pierce off because he's a plugin guy when they lose IU so okay so the 49ers Las Vegas likes him plus 300SE three all right uh the Lions and the Eagles if anybody else could do it if anybody else could do it it was the teams that were there this close last year I especially like the Philadelphia Eagles with the addition of saquin Barkley okay okay well I tell you what Eagles better be good because you can make a strong argument that the hottest seat in professional football might be might be the ass of of Nick Ser his ass is a flame brother and they better be good they bottomed out and lost in the first round of the playoffs Todd BS and Tampa Bay wore them out that was a bad football team at the end of the season and owner Jeff lurry is looking for some correction quick or it'll be some serious furniture moving in in Philly no question but they ought to be good they they've added sequin Barkley the offensive line is still basically intact right tackle Lane Johnson getting a little long in the tooth but still a good player AJ Brown Devonte Smith they uh they drafted well on defense I was so excited to see them to take the cornerback to they took the cornerback from from Toledo from the Mac from the power five from the ma from yeah no from from the power group of five from the group of five from the mac and I you a corner you the first quarterback taken in the National Football League and you came from you play you can play a no question question and then and then they came right back ear on with the 40th pick and took that boy Cooper dejon too and so I'm excited to see because that's a rare bird that brother I have not seen a white kid play cornerback in the National Football League since Jason seahorn with the New York Giants and that name that was in the early 90s so he went before Kool-Aid mckinster I'm trying to he was Cooper de was a baller Iowa so uh Kurt Fen good ball coach uh that's a good that that kid can play they shed up that defense they need to know so so so you say that Philly will have a chance what about Detroit you like Detroit's chances if they don't if they remember who they are coach as long as they as long as they keep their identity same thing that messed over Baltimore last season five rushing attempts against the defended national champions coach you can't do that and expect the win but but uh no you can't Baltimore learned their mistake on the AFC side but now we're on the NFC side so you said that they maintain their identity you talking about what they what they did when they played San Francisco when they they lost to San Francisco coach had the lead 24 to7 and then they lost 34 to then they lost at the at the end of the second half coach they forgot who they were yeah and were outscored 27 to7 in the second half of that football game you're right to lose yeah to lose 3431 certainly I think so yeah but if they get it going on all four burners Detroit will has a roster that could defeat the 49ers Aiden huderson uh are coming off the edge SL Detroit got three first round draft picks in that offensive line uh the center ragau R Taylor Decker from Ohio State the left tackle and Pan the uh the right tackle uh from you from Oregon rag now played at Arkansas uh they got they got three first round picks in that offensive line two very good backs jir Gibbs and that boy David Montgomery so they got they've got a roster now at Detroit that could challenge the 49ers a't no question David Montgomery no relation to y'all DN no we are not relations so uh MOS anybody else now is there anybody else that you like well before we get out of here we gotta talk about Dallas we wouldn't be no show some if somebody if somebody didn't discuss Dallas so before we get out of you uh Dallas is in my opinion they are at an impass they're at an impass uh and quite frankly if I was Jerry Jones I wouldn't pay Dak Prescott either because I know he is giving them 12 12 and five backtack years big deal you underachieving the playoffs just a fact he he under CH under and and and Jerry's got to be sitting there thinking you know I can do this with Tony Roo I did do thisy Romo for a whole lot less for a whole lot man now obviously you gonna pay Michael Parsons and you gonna play CD lamb you gonna pay them he gonna get around to pay them but after that he got a bunch of underachieving average guys you want to call it for what it is it's a fact have not have not have not been to the NFC championship game since 1995 you going pay CD lamb Dallas is just good enough to lose let me explain to you what I mean by that he doesn't have enough help around him slim to take them to the Super Bowl he doesn't have enough help you got one good white out that CD lamb and he made he a't in care you starting Ezekiel Elliot who came back he three years ago Ezekiel is done Tony P beat him out three years ago Dallas is under to Jerry tell the truth when he talking about he all in and he he he's saving money on this one because and I don't blame him uh he it's going to end up costing him some more uh because eventually somebody's gonna pay Dak here's what I do and I'm it's been great to see you man I would get Trey Lance ready not you cuz at one point coach somebody thought Trey Lance was worth duh duh you think you think second player to go the second player to go in the draft and the 49ers gave up three first round picks to take that kid okay now somebody so so so you saying that to say somebody hold on no you don't think that Prescott gonna be a cowboy next year it would not surprise me it would not surprise me and and then said I said they at an inass they're an inass and J Jerry's look at this who Tony Roman I did that with you man please money talks and you know what walk man look been good to see you
