Intro I love competing, I love long jump, to run fast and to jump as far into the pit as possible, and to make the pit look as small as possible. My name is Markus Rehm, I'm a long jumper, gold medalist at Paralympic Games, world champion and a world record holder. Who is Markus Rehm I lost my leg during a wakeboarding accident with a motorboat, and I came quite fast back to sports. I loved wakeboarding at that time, and I did athletics when I was a child already. I moved from my small hometown to Leverkusen, and took up sports professionally. My first Paralympic Games, they were super special, and my family was there, some of my friends were there, and this was like super emotional to see your family being proud of you and all those people who joined you on the whole journey you made from the day of the accident to be on the top of the podium at the Paralympic Games. How can it be better? How sports changed his life Para sports definitely changed my life. When I lost my leg at the very beginning, I kind of also lost my identity as an athlete. I always was the sport guy in school. I always was the athlete among my friends, and suddenly I was the disabled guy, and I never like this image. So really sports, and later Para sports really gave me my identity back. And I think that's also my big motivation to jump further and further and even further than maybe some Olympic athletes today. Because I'm not a disabled guy, I'm the athlete. Well, the main goal after Goals for the future winning London, Rio and Tokyo is definitely to defend my title. Even if I compete on my own here on the track, there's so many people around me, so many people in my back, especially my coach, Steffi. She's been on my side since day one in Para sports. Becoming a Paralympian Well, to become a Paralympic champion, first of all you have to, train really hard. It's a lot of time invested, and also consistency, you have to keep going. Even if you are injured, even if you have some issues, you always have to find a way around. You have to be very disciplined, but also flexible, just to keep, keep going, keep getting better. To compete at Paris 2024, with hopefully a full stadium, this will be just amazing. The last Games, they were nice. I think Japan made the best out of it, but unfortunately, there were no spectators in the stadium. So I just hope that we can change it all upside down in Paris, that we have a full stadium, that we have a nice atmosphere, and that we can present our sports to the world and to the spectators. Paris 2024. I'm going to be ready. I hope you will be too.
